| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! I'm pretty certain that biology isn't the primary science for all of us here, so please share your favorite field of science and why. I myself would prefer to go into anthropology, which is a social science with a significant biologic influence. I hope to follow in the footsteps of Leakey, Goodall, Fossey, and the like. |

I am not sure, but probably either Astronomy or Zoology. |

Evolutionary biology and cryptozoology and paleontology. Astronomy is interesting too. Edited by Yorick, Jan 8 2009, 11:07 AM.

I have no idea where I want to go yet. I'm applying for biological sciences at uni which for the first year covers everything biology, then you can specialise later. I used to want to study evolutionary biology, but really what use is it in our world? I want to study biology for more practical purposes so I'm growing more interested in studying ecosystems and how each species, climates, soil types, human factors, etc affect the ecosystem, and how it could change. |

Astronomy is my proffered science, although I do have a strong interest in zoology and astrobiology. |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

I like Darwin's kind of science. Garden shed science anyone could do. Sadly not much you can do now. |

Well, I don't know. With the avaliablilty of information brought on by computers, the once complicated sciences are now simple. Ever heard of biohackers? That's a good example. They're people who do home-genetic manipulation as a hobby. They use equipment and information they get from the internet to do interesting things like bacterial art and such. |

Astronomy, definently. A little bit of physics (time travel and wormholes). Though this may be a bit cliche, biology, specifically zoology. |

It Darwin's day it was. Even in Edwardian times. But in the present science is much larger and more specialised. |
