It had only been three short weeks since Vanessa and Roman had been wed. The bliss the couple had experienced since that day had been unlike any other, even before being Mister and Missus. Sure, Vanessa had been happy before but nothing like now. Now they were officially a family and Vanessa couldn't be happier. Now as Vanessa stood before a stove full of food, she glanced over her shoulder at her children to make sure they were okay. Rylan and Atton were old enough to walk and talk now so she wasn't as worried about leaving them alone. Angel had her boyfriend over for dinner, Lily was on her way with Dante, and the other boys were already here. It was Vanessa's surprise to Roman. A nice, huge family dinner. It had been too long since Roman had all of his children together at once. Sure, it wasn't a dinner that anyone would eat but the children but hey, it was still nice to have everyone together to talk and drink. Vanessa turned off the stove once the pasta had finished cooking and dumped it into a red strainer to empty out the water. After adding the white sauce on top, she began to add all the other ingredients one by one. "Hey kids it's time for dinner!" Vanessa called quietly as she placed the pot down in the middle of the large dining table that was set with plates for all those who could eat and nothing but glasses for those who wouldn't. Roman would be home at any minute and she wanted everyone to wait for him so once everyone was at the table, she told them to wait. |

For once in his life, Roman had felt a severe sense of somewhere he belonged. Of course he felt happy and content with his previous wives, but nothing had filled him like his current love. Vanessa was different and it wasn't her modern attitude, it was something more that drug the elder vampire in. It was something he couldn't explain and he didn't even want to try. He knew words couldn't describe his love for Vanessa and they shouldn't be able to. If words could describe someone you loved then you truly weren't in love with them, or that's how Roman felt. He knew that he had found the love of his life when he felt the frozen epicenter of his body begin to melt and once again become a thriving being. Sometimes, he swore he could feel his heart beating even though it was quite impossible. Although the past three weeks had been amazing, Roman felt something deep down within his gut. Worthlessness. Roman didn't provide for his family. They lived off money Toryn had given them and Vanessa's inheritance. He wanted to feel like he could provide for his family and over the past few days he had found a resolution. Roman was going to join the Marines. He had waited a few days and thought about it more but then he had worked up the confidence and when Vanessa had asked him to run to the store to get some cigarettes and liquor, he made a pit stop. He had stopped at his nephew, Gunner's home and spoke to him about it. Gunner had been working as a recruiter around the town and had worked some things in to get his uncle the decent position of Chief Master Sergeant. Roman was to be deployed to basic training in a month and then was given a month's rest and then was to be deployed to Iraq. The thought of being so far from his family made his stomach churn, but the horrid feeling that had possessed his body overthrew the fear. After signing the papers his nephew had given him, Roman folded and put what was his in his pocket and then left Gunner's home. It was a short drive home from there and Roman had already picked up the cigarettes and alcohol. When he pulled into the driveway of his home, he killed the engine to his motorcycle and then climbed off of it and grabbed the bag from the side bag. Once he had reached the front door he twisted the knob and then stepped inside, the scents of the many vampires hitting his nasal cavity. All of his children were here. With a small shrug, Roman had stepped into the kitchen and placed the bag down on the counter before moving into the dining room. His large hands had moved to rest on Vanessa's shoulders as he lent down to press his cool lips lightly against her cheek. "What a pleasant surprise to see you all here," Roman said quietly with a chuckle and then moved away from his wife to greet his children one by one until he had reached his eldest daughter who sat next to Vanessa. Lily was still his baby girl and since she was his first daughter, he had an extremely strong spot for here. After he placed a tender kiss on her temple he moved to sit down next to his wife at the head of the table. Roman felt slightly uneasy now, the papers in his pocket felt as if they were burning a hole in his pants and branding his skin. It made him jumpy. |

The moment Roman had entered the room, Vanessa's entire demeanor had changed. Her face lit up and her eyes never left her husband. They were the perfect newlyweds in every sense and Vanessa had the feeling that way of living wasn't going to go away anytime soon. She still felt as if they were married yesterday. Sometimes Vanessa thought she needed to pinch herself to realize just how real her life was because it seemed like a fantasy, something out of a fairy tale book. With a wide grin as the kids began to eat, Vanessa rose from her seat to slide into the lap of her husband and draped her arms around his broad neck. As she interlocked her hands together behind his neck, she began to nuzzle her nose against his cheek before giving it a slow, long kiss. "I missed you," Vanessa whispered ever so quietly against Roman's earlobe before biting at it ever so slightly, playfully. "Must have been a long ass line at the store. You've been gone for like almost an hour." Vanessa, obviously, wasn't accusing him of anything she was just simply curious. |

One of Roman's hands moved to rest on her hip once she had moved to sit in her lip. It had distracted him from his eyes locked across the table at Angel's boyfriend. He was still very suspicious. With a small smile up at his wife he moved his other hand to cup her cheek. This all felt so different to him. He felt like he was a teenager with a crush though he was a married man with children. Beautiful children that Vanessa had given him. "Gunner asked me to stop by to help out with something before I left." Roman told Vanessa which was true though it didn't explain why he was asked to stop by. |

"Oh, alright. Just curious," Vanessa said simply as she gave his lips a long, firm kiss before rising to her feet and resuming her spot next to Rylan. It was quite comedic to watch them eat pasta with their fingers and even though Vanessa had cut them into smaller noodles, they were still getting messy. Chuckling, Vanessa glanced over at Angel and her boyfriend as they ate and flirted beneath the table. Vanessa wasn't an idiot, she knew what it was like to be a young teenager. After all, she was only eighteen herself. Lily knew her father very well and she knew something was going on. As she crossed her legs and ran her fingertips around the brim of her wine glass, she gave her father a sideways glance indicating as if she knew what was going on, which she did because she had the infallible gift of mind reading. Once she had picked up on the details, Lily excused herself from the table, trying not to seem too upset in front of everyone even though she really was. |

Roman sighed quietly as he watched Lily rise from the table and then disappear from the room. Damn his mind abilities to hell. It passed onto his children, of course. Gavyn could track through brain waves and Lily could read minds. At times they came in handy, though right now it wasn't very good. Roman had excused himself from the table as well and insisted that Dante stay at the table since he was chatting with Gavyn. Roman had slowly moved down the hall and then caught her scent coming from the bathroom. After knocking quietly he slowly twisted the knob and then stepped into the bathroom. "Lily," Roman breathed quietly and stood behind his daughter, one of his large hands moving to rest on her shoulder. |

Lily turned around and wiped her eyes free of the mascara stained tears. "Daddy, what are you thinking? There's got to be a hundred thousand more things you could do. What if something happens to you? What if you don't get a chance to feed cause you're fighting all night and then you go out to fight in the morning and die?" Lily shook her head and rolled her eyes. She worried enough about her brothers being firefighters and now this. "I'm hardly ever going to see you now. We just found each other and now I'm going to lose you again." Lily folded her arms across her chest and stared into her father's eyes. "Worst part is you haven't even told Vanessa yet and she's going to kill you." |

Roman moved his other hand to rest on her other shoulder and he locked his eyes with hers. In a short second, he had slowly slid his hands around her petite body and held her tightly in his arms. He remembered how he had done this when she was a newborn. She was so small and was like a mouse to an elephant in his arms. "I promise nothing is going to happen to me, Lily." Roman promised his daughter in a quiet voice and slowly let his hands move up and down her back in a comforting manner. "And I am going to tell Vanessa. I was going to once I got home, I just didn't think all of you would be here today." Roman explained quietly and then sighed quietly through his nose. "You have more things to concern yourself with then the life of your father. You have a lover to worry about and care for. Death comes to us all at one point it doesn't matter if it happens now or in some war." Edited by Roman Ipswich, May 23 2009, 11:26 PM.

"Yes, it does matter, dad and Dante takes care of himself. He doesn't have a job like you now have. I just worry, dad, you know that," Lily explained as she wrapped her arms back around her father and gave him the biggest, tightest hug she could muster. "I love you, daddy. I just don't want to lose you again." With that, Lily pulled back from her father and gave him a small smile. "I am proud of you, though, you know that?" Lily gave her father's cheek a quick peck and then took a step back, indicating that she was okay now. "So let's go back in there and try to have some fun or something." |

"Lily, I just faced the lamb and later tonight I'll be facing the lion. Don't be surprised if I wind up spending the night at your house tonight." Roman teased and then exited the bathroom with his daughter and slowly moved back to the dining room with her. When he saw that all of the children had finished eating and Hannah and Vanessa were cleaning up he slowly moved to help. Roman and Vanessa always worked together, they worked better that way, it was nice. |
