Tears don't fall

Gunner had sighed quietly as he pushed the hat up on his head and then pulled it back down. He'd been told this before, in a different text, but he had. Maddox had said he got that vibe about her and that she loved another man, that Gunner was just a rebound or a number. Gunner had slowly moved over to sit down in the recliner that was across from the plasma screen television and let his hands run down his face before he pushed the hat off of his head. Gunner didn't want to believe it, but now he'd been told it twice and he got a certain vibe from Valion.

"You're the second person to tell me that. Maddox said it not too long ago, before he moved out to be with Sam and their baby girl." Gunner murmured and let his chin rest in his hands, his fingers running along the facial hair on his chin. "When Maddox said it I thought he was just against vampires, but now, I realize the way that she looked at him and spoke to him. I don't want it to be true, not now, not after what we have planned." Gunner told his mother in a glum tone as he glanced across the room at her.

"Does he feel the same? Valion, I mean. Last time I saw him he had a fiance and a child, but his situation could be the same as hers."

You're the sunlight on my face, and you're the one I can't replace.
Everything just seems to fall apart without a trace. I will be, and I will show.
Follow me, wherever I go. But that was so long ago, you assume that I've forgotten.
But how could I ever forget you, I know, I'm having trouble letting go.
Though it was so long ago. I was thinking back today, and I remember everything.
Like all the things we used to say.

"No one can be sure. He swears up and down he isn't but things with them did not end because they chose it to end, it ended because neither of them knew how to be married," Morgan explained as she glanced over at the staircase. She would be able to tell if Scarlett was coming in plenty of time before she would arrive. "Personally, Gunner, I think he does feel the same. How do you spend a hundred years together and just hate one another? They don't talk and they act too awkward for it to be untrue."

Morgan frowned as she sat down on the couch, the end closest to her son and her eyes locked on his face. He was obviously very upset. "I don't want to ruin what you have with her, if it's serious because I do believe people can change but, I don't think you should have to share her heart. If she loves you and I know she loves Val still, there isn't room for two men in a woman's heart. I know that well."

Morgan placed a hand on Gunner's knee and shook her head. "You deserve so much better, but what do you mean by what you two have planned? Are you....married? Engaged? Do you have children?"

Gunner shook slightly with anger, though he kept himself calm enough to answer his mother's questions. "Engaged, no children yet but Scarlett is most likely pregnant, and I have three children from a previous marriage that ended a year and a half ago. James who is three, Alexander who is two, and Taylor who is one." Gunner explained and then rose from the chair. Gunner knew his mother wasn't lying, and she did know her brother. She was right though, no one could just get over a one hundred year marriage and be completely fine. And if Scarlett didn't know how to be married then this wouldn't work.

Gunner had placed the hat back on his head and moved around the house. After he grabbed a clean, folded shirt off the arm of the couch and slid it on he grabbed a sweat shirt off the coat rack and slid it on. "I think I just need some time to myself." Gunner told his mother and flicked a glance her way. "So you and Scarlett can talk or whatever." Gunner finished and then glanced up the stairs to where Scarlett was. "I'm running to the store!" Gunner called and then moved to the front door, grabbing the truck keys out of the bowl on the table next to the door.

Gunner had quickly exited the house and then jumped into the truck that was parked behind the smaller car he and Scarlett had. After starting the truck Gunner had backed out and began to drive down the road, not really having any destination in mind.

Morgan rose to her feet as Gunner took off out the front door. She didn't mean to hurt him and didn't want to ruin what he had with Scarlett if it was, in fact, going as well as he led her to believe it was. Morgan sighed and pulled her cell phone out of her pocket and dialed Valion's number on her way out the door, after her son. As the phone rang and Morgan waited for someone to pick up on the other end, she took off down the street as fast as she could go.

It didn't take long for Morgan to catch up with the truck that wasn't going but thirty or forty miles per hour. Once she had and Gunner stopped at a sign, Morgan slid in the passenger's side of the truck. "I'm going to get to the bottom of this. Want to go visit Val? He isn't picking up and I think you deserve some answers." Morgan then ended the phone call on her blackberry and shoved it back into her pocket, obviously upset that her son was upset.

"It'll just make things worse. I'd rather live in a fucking fairy land and have four kids on my own then say I never tried." Gunner told his mother and stared over at her as he sighed and then let the truck began to accelerate once more. Scarlett would probably be calling him soon wondering where he went and for once, he planned on just letting it ring. Part of him wanted to know for sure, but another part knew just by the way they looked at one another. Why did he always wind up getting the fucked up relationships? Everything was suppose to be going perfect.

"I think it's quite selfish though. What about Valion's fiance? His daughter? My children? Who call Scarlett their mother." Gunner shouted as he slammed his palms into the steering wheel. He wasn't really even talking to his mother at all. "I just wish my life turned out better than it did. Everyone in this fucking family is un-dead or under the ground and for once I wish I was six feet under. This life of eternal fucking damn nation isn't worth it at all."

"Don't say that," Morgan pleaded with her son as she stared over at him with eyes that seemed to never blink. She was afraid now that Gunner would try to do something drastic and therefore, she never wanted to leave him now. Morgan felt horrible now, as if this whole thing was entirely her fault. "I mean, you can't go entirely on what I say because I'm not in the relationship with Scarlett, you are but obviously there's something else if you're taking it so seriously."

Morgan then glanced out the side window before deciding to send Valion a text. Quickly she wrote: I need to talk to you about Gunner. Did you know my son was with Scarlett? After sending the text, she returned her gaze back to Gunner and slid across the seat to be close to him. With her arm around him and head on his shoulder, she held him in a small hug. "If they are in love still, it is selfish of them to make others miserable when they could have just gotten back together."

Valion had finally picked up the phone when the text went off and stared at it, cocking an eyebrow. Valion had selected the reply button and began to type a response.

That's your boy? He didn't look like that so long ago. And he came by here when Gabriel and Samuel were around with Scarlett. Brought his three kids too.

"It's jus the way she looks at him. I never got a glance like that from her." Gunner told his mother as he quickly did a u-turn at one of the traffic lights and headed back towards his home. "Sometimes I just wish someone would look at me that way, but I guess after two attempts it won't be happening." Gunner added and relaxed in his seat a bit after pulling his hat further down over his eyes. He really just wanted to go home and be alone for a bit now. Things that he had just pushed away were staring him in the face now.

"Just because she doesn't look at you that way, doesn't mean she doesn't love you, Gunner," Morgan tried to explain before a small sigh escaped her lips. She was upset now as well and feared for her son's sanity. When Morgan received a text back from her brother, she quickly typed back: Yeah, that's my baby. He's currently freaking out because he knows Scarlett still loves you. We all know she does so I just have to know. Do you still love her too?

Once Morgan had sent her text, she sat up straight when she noticed they were returning to Gunner's home. "Are you going to go in and talk to her? Because I think you should." She said, just as she noticed the cell phone in Gunner's truck start flashing with Scarlett's picture, indicating that she was calling him.

Gunner had glanced at the cell phone that was blaring the song Warmness on the Soul by Avenged Sevenfold and then picked it up and hit the quiet button. He could talk to Scarlett once he was in the house. Gunner just needed to think for a little while. "Probably. Most likely." Gunner told his mother and then glanced over at her. Aside from everything else, Gunner had one question that he wanted answers to. Was his father actually alive? It was extremely hard and not exactly normal for a Lycan to drown, intoxicated or not. Even aside from that, Gunner had heard stories of a Lycan being turned into a bloodsucker, according to other Lycans, vampire venom was the strongest thing around.

"Is Dad really dead?" Gunner asked Morgan with a solid glance. That question had been burning within him recently and he'd brought it up to Maddox and Trenton once or twice but they didn't know.

"As far as I know, yes," Morgan explained as she laid back in her seat, resting a bit now that the drama seemed to be over for now. At least the subject had changed. "I saw it with my own eyes and even attended his funeral. I don't think there's a way around that so we don't have to worry about him making us miserable anymore, Gunner."

Morgan then ran her hand up and down his broad arm, still trying to comfort him as they neared his home once again. Morgan would never forget the way Johnathan had treated their children as well as her and she would never forgive him for that. For the way he was, she hated him for it.
