12.) History:
Roman was created before the end of the year 1600 in Milan, Italy. Roman’s mother, Maria, was unable to have children and so Roman’s creator, Halion, used his power to create an infant duplicate of his physical appearance. In the evening of December 31, 1600, Halion came home with the duplicated infant in his arms. Maria did not know of Halion’s vampirism and accepted the child as her own. Throughout Roman’s infancy Halion would sneak him canters of blood to sustain the blood lust. Maria knew none of this and tried to raise Roman as normally as she possibly could. Adoption wasn’t all that accepted back in the early seventeenth century. Maria was extremely content with the baby boy, though when his teeth started to come in and she noticed the sharper ones she became slightly alarmed. Halion told her it was nothing and life continued on its normal path.

By the age of five, Roman was being taken out with Halion to feed. Halion had told Roman it was a game and if he didn’t tell his mother then he’d win. Roman had kept his mouth shut and never told his mother of his secret trips with his father and it kept Halion extremely pleased. When Roman was six, Halion and Maria began sending him to school to get an education. Italy was the leading country in education at the current time. Because Roman fed daily his thirst was subsided enough for him to function normally around humans and enter the sunlight. Roman’s first year of education went flawlessly and he excelled highly in academics. Though, a few days after Roman’s birthday things went horribly wrong. Maria had cut her finger while preparing food for dinner and Roman, who wasn’t immune to spilt blood, attacked. Roman had drained his mother of blood completely in mere seconds.

When Halion had come home, horror struck him. Halion held himself together for the sanity of his son and had taken the body of his lifeless wife out of the house. After a few days in the woods Halion had managed to build a funeral pyre. Maria’s remains were placed in an urn which was kept in the careful care of Roman. Halion, without any other option, moved himself and the young Roman back to his homeland of Scotland. Halion educated Roman himself in the Scottish highlands. Though, after three years, Halion left Roman while he slept one night. Since Roman was so young, he didn’t react to the loneliness well and went on a rampage. Roman ate anything in his oath until he had his fill, waited to digest, and then did it again. It was a horrible life and grabbed the attention of many other vampires, including the Strigoi. Strigoi had tracked down Roman and when they found him, dug their teeth into him and left many light, crescent shaped scars all over his body.

After ten years had passed, Roman matured until the age of twenty until he stopped aging completely. His insane attitude had calmed and he taught himself to be a very polite and well rounded young man. Roman had moved to Edinburgh for the sake of a new life and stayed in the surrounding area of a borough and worked for crop farmers. It was a simple and meaningless life for a vampire, but Roman never minded, he had found some kind of purpose. Roman had continued to work on the farm for the next five years, saving all the money he received, until he had saved a small fortune. On the sixth year of his work there, Roman had quit working on the farm and bought a small piece of land around seven miles away from Edinburgh. Roman had decided to start his own farm for a change and quickly invested in crop fields and farm animals, working the farm night and day almost all the time.

Roman had spent the entire year of 1626 building himself a large farmhouse and while he was picking up supplies in the market one day, he saw her. She was a vampire like him and after some short talk, he found out that she had recently been turned in the past ten years. Her name was Carmine and she had lived alone since her turning, she was, to put it nicely, a very bitter vampire. Roman had Carmine stay on the farm with him though their relationship never continued past friends. Roman felt that he would know if he was ever ready to settle down with Carmine but at the moment he did not love Carmine and was not about to take their relationship to any new level. Carmine did not react to that news well at all and after a year of living with Roman, she had taken off with another vampire. Carmine returned a few months later as a Strigoi vampire and Roman had made the decision to end her life before she ended his.

After killing the only friend Roman considered himself to have he slipped into a deep depression. Roman had remained that way for the next one hundred and fifty-six years until he heard word of a war brewing against the American colonists. Roman knew of the Scottish oppression that they faced five hundred years earlier and had taken a French supply boat over to the colonies. Roman had joined the Continental Army and was taken in as an officer after he stated that he was from Scotland and had highly studied English military tactics. Roman knew of most of the recent tactics, British troops almost always tended to be stationed near Wales, only a few miles from the Scottish boarder. The war had hardened Roman and after two long years of war he was happy to see the Treaty of Paris signed. After the war, Roman left an extremely decorated military officer and went back home to Edinburgh.

Roman had basked in the fame he had acquired from the war while back home in Scotland, though the British weren’t too happy for his aid with the American colonists. Roman had only stayed in the Scottish live light for around ten years before he had retreated to the Scottish highlands and lived up in the mountains. He always preferred it there. After twenty-two years of living in the highlands Roman had emerged once more and then boarded a ship on the west coast of Scotland. They were originally looters but after they had heard of the British attacking American ships and taking its crew hostage and back to England they became known as pirates. The ship sunk British ships while aiding the American ships in their journey. When the war of 1812 broke out in the year 1812 Roman had requested that the captain take him to an American port.

Roman was dropped off in New Orleans, Louisiana and then made his way through the south. When Roman found a military base in South Carolina he had requested to speak to James Madison, the current president of the United States. Roman had lied and explained that his father fought against the British in the Revolutionary War and that he’d like to join against the British once more. President Madison and allowed Roman to join the military and gave him the rank of Senior Enlisted Advisor. When the white house was practically burned to the ground it caused Roman to fight harder. After the white house was burned Roman was placed under the command of General Andrew Jackson and stayed with him as they traveled with his army down to New Orleans. In fact, Roman was a leading member in the most impressive battle of the war and ironically as Roman, Jackson and the American troops fought against the British, American and British diplomats had already signed a peace agreement. The news reached the army a day after the victory.

After fighting in two wars only thirty-two years apart Roman had jumped on a ship that was headed for Ireland to escape it all. When the ship landed on the west coast Roman traveled through the country until he had reached Dublin. Roman had spent most of his time in the pub during his stay in Ireland and during the potato famine Roman had retreated to the Irish countryside. The eastern side of Ireland had grown too full because the whole western side was suffering from the famine. Roman knew that Ireland would be too full of its occupants sooner rather than later and noticed that some of them immigrated to America. Roman had bought a ticket of passage at one of the docks and was scheduled to leave in early February of 1863. When February rolled around, Roman got on the boat with a sack of clothes and he left Ireland behind.

On the ship over to America Roman had met two brothers from a small town outside of Dublin. Abraham and Benjamin Parker. They were running from their father and wanted to escape the horrid life that had recently struck Ireland. Roman had explained that he was somewhat in the same situation and the three quickly became friends. When the ship landed on Ellis Island, right outside of New York City, the three got separated during the checks and the citizenship confirmation but quickly met up once they were released into the city. The only option for them to find housing was the five points, a spot in the city horribly controlled by gangs. The three had found a room in the five points in a tenement building. After moving into the tenement building, the Parker boys and Roman had joined the 'Dead Rabbits' gang to be assured of a type of protection. It only took a day or two to get accepted fully into the gang.

Life had been simple for the most part, despite avoiding the war. Though, in July of 1863, mere days after the Battle of Gettysburg, the Draft Riot broke out. Buildings were burned, people were killed, and the gangs went to war. The gang war had only lasted a day, but the fires raged through the city for a grand total of three days, burning down half of the area around the five points. The dead were placed in the street with candles placed on their chest so that their families could identify them at night and more then half the gang wound up dead, that included Benjamin. Abraham and Roman had been drafted into the war shortly after and were placed in the same unit. After a few weeks of basic training the two men had been shipped to fight the war they wanted no part in. Although, Roman had quickly adjusted to the war and rose in the ranks rather quickly. By the end of the war, two years later, he was awarded the rank of lieutenant.

{Roman's Theme Song}
This is the proving ground. As the heat begins to rise.
Turn away from yesterday. Tomorrow is in my eyes. Oh!
Nevermore to be held down by the weights against me.
Nevermore to be cast aside. This day is mine!
Even through the darkest days this fire burns always.
