General Rules

Although this site is meant to be enjoyed and mostly carefree, there are a few rules that need to be followed. Every rule exists for a reason, and we understand that everyone's situation is a little different. Please read the rules, and be sure to check back every now and then to make sure that you are up-to-date on any changes that might occur.

1. POST AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED: You are not to post in the roleplaying area until your character has been accepted. There are areas to post in that are OOC specific, where you can ask questions, and/or get help with whatever you might need. Do not post into the roleplaying area until you have been accepted. Character Registration is not hard. Tedious, maybe, but not hard. Please do it.

2. NON CANON CHARACTERS ONLY: Please try not to steal a character from anime, books, television, or movies. Those characters are meant for that specific book, movie, etc...not for this site. Please use your imagination. Using a picture is acceptable, but do not pull a character from whatever you have seen/read and use it verbatim. That would be called plagiarism (or stealing). At the very most, base your character from a story. Do not steal an existing character!

3. BE CREATIVE AND OPEN-MINDED: If you want to have a good time on any RP site, you need to be creative and willing to play your character in different situations. See what your character is made of by writing with many different characters on the board.

4. YOUR CHARACTER IS NOT INVICIBLE: Even though this is a fantasy/supernatural roleplay, not everyone is invincible. Everyone has a weakness. Granted, other players do have to find that weakness, but you cannot make it so obscure or non-existent that no one ever will. If you abuse your rights as a player, you will be dealt with. In other words, God Mode and the Gods of the site will ban you for a while. At least until you get it right.

5. IC KNOWLEDGE VS OOC KNOWLEDGE: Know the difference between In Character (IC) knowledge and Out of Character (OOC) knowledge. Remember that what you learn OOC doesn't meant that your character will automatically know IC without playing it out first.

6. GOD-MODING (see Rule 4) Play your character and your character only, please. You may not post what another character does or thinks. The only time it's acceptable is if the other players are ok with you doing it. If there are complaints received about your character or yourself, you will be warned. When in doubt about god-moding: ASK.

7. DO NOT EAT THE BOARD: I've seen this rule elsewhere, and it's a rather good one. Try not to post everywhere. I know everyone is excited to post, but do not start new threads all over the site. Do some reading, figure some things out, get acquainted with the board. You may find that there are threads unanswered that you can respond to before making your own.

8. THIRD PERSON AND PAST TENSE: On this site, we ask that everyone write actions (i.e. what is going on) in third person and/or past tense. For example:
Bad - *he is closing his eyes as he speaks, all while reaching
to grab her arm*
Good - *he closed his eyes as he spoke, while he
reached to grab her arm*
We are aware that everyone wants to have a unique posting style. There is nothing wrong with that, but when the different tenses are used, post-by-post, it makes for a very poor roleplay. If confused, look at other people's posts and take cue. Don't know what posts to look for? Try the posts of one of the Leaders... Most of us are old skoolers when it comes to RP.

9. BE DESCRIPTIVE: Posts must be at least a paragraph long (5-8 sentences). I'm sure that everyone agrees that it is difficult for people to respond to something when there is nothing to respond to. Everyone has their bad days, but I'm sure that one paragraph is easy enough to write, especially on a roleplaying forum. We're looking to create inviting and interesting stories, not to have people post for the sake of posting. A Note on this... we're telling a story, not sending email back and forth to one another. After a long, detailed, descriptive post, I'm going to be rather despondent if the reply is a miniscule attempt at a roleplaying reply. Granted, some of you are starting out, but take cue from the post before you.

10. BUT DON'T BE OVERLY DESCRIPTIVE: No one wants to have to read pages upon pages about nothing just to get through a post. Long posts can be just as difficult to reply to as short posts. The importance of posting is to find a happy medium. No we do not have to go on pages upon pages about the dank air that you smelled in the dingy apartment, however it would be good to describe the setting so others know what you see. Find a happy medium and run with it. Too short and too long posts can be nerve wracking to everyone and we are here to have fun.

11. GRAMMAR AND LANGUAGE: Use clear, precise language, and watch your spelling and grammar. Write in WORD and use spellcheck if possible. It is sad and distracting to see poorly written stories. Fix type-o's in your post when you notice them. Believe me, more people will read your posts and RP with you if you do.

12. CURSING: Cursing and/or "bad" language is acceptable, but there is a limit. As we are all (supposed to be) intelligent, mature individuals, we should not have to substitute cursing for our intelligent writing. Shock value is fine, but the whole post doesn't have to include a swear word every other line.

13. EROTICA: While we allow mature threads, please temper your posts with good judgment. No rape scenes, bestiality, sado-masochism. If you begin crossing too many tasteful lines, we will step in and warn you.

Sexual content will only be written in the special section found in the dormitories. You will tastefully end the current thread and move the sexual thread to the new and private location.
If we see that you are posting just mature threads and nothing else you will be warned once and then banned. We want to keep a balance of everything here. Remember this is an entire life. Life is not filled with just sex, it is filled with sadness, happiness, friendship, lies and deceit. Think outside the box. If you are here for cybersex there are plenty of chatrooms you can go and have fun, this isn’t the place for it.

14. VIOLENCE: Remember we do not allow rape scenes, bestiality, and S&M threads. Threads with heavy or graphic violence may be placed on the board, but must be marked with a 'V' in the topic title. Unmarked threads will be removed and the writers warned once. Repeat offense will result in a ban from the board.

15. REALISM: Remember that everything you do to your character should have an effect. Whether they get hurt, they have a hang over, they OD, whatever they case may be there is an effect, a consequence. Play everything out including the consequences. HOWEVER: you may not kill a player or yourself without permission from us. If you are going to have a violent scene make sure it doesn’t get too out of hand.

16. REALISM PART 2: Do not constantly change how your character acts/reacts. Make sure your actions are your characters, not your own. All characters go through trials and situations that will change their image/personality, but they will not change at every turn.

17. OOC: If writing OOC in the rp thread make sure to do one line things
IE: ((I’m off to bed night)) Then finish your rp beneath it.
We prefer to not see pages upon pages of OOC dialect in the rp. Save that for PM’s

18. FLAMING. This is when you openly attack someone on the board, usually in a OOC manner, or slipping things IC that shouldn't be. If you have a situation, try to deal with it calmly and not abuse each other. Outward abuse will be checked and warnings will be given. Failure to control yourself will get you banned!

19. ACTIVITY AND ABSCENSES: We ask that you post within one week if you are in active threads. Please don't leave other writers hanging without touching base with them. If you cannot post, PM as admin and we will have FATE move into your thread. Writers should also be patient and allow the writer to respond. If it's more than a week, PM an admin and we will work something out to help you continue.

If you know you will be off the board for awhile, please post it in the Absences forum as soon as you know. It just makes it easier for others you write with to know you are unavailable.

Please know that we may delete your character if you do not check in a month. It's not intended as a punishment but as a way to know who is with us. We know that people come and go on roleplays. It is no good to have others waiting on a character who never intends on coming back.

If you decide the board is not for you, please don't worry. Just send us a PM. We won't guilt you into staying. Everyone has their own likes and comfort areas. We just like to know if you are on your way out.

20. AVI AND SIGGY RULES: NO graphic images of violence, sex or nudity. No Animae or other cartoon stuff.
Avi no bigger than 120(h) x 120(w)
Siggie no bigger than 250 (H) x 600(w)

21. PLEASE POST! Yes, we all love to read stories. This, however, is not a site for people who just wish to read the stories/interactions between characters. Please try to post at least once a week, per character.

22. Most Important Rule - Have Fun!!!! All of us come to this site for different reasons: some are writers; other just enjoy roleplaying. We are here to escape the worries in the real world, not to add to them!

Obviously, these rules can be changed/added on to at any time. Before you file a complaint with someone on any particular issue, check the rules first. If someone brings an issue up with you that you're not familiar with, please check the rules first before assuming that nothing has changed. If you have any questions on any particular rule, please ask them! You have the option of PMing an Admin/Ruler, or using the 911 board for any assistance
