Quick scan of the contestants.....Allison is dressed as Pebbles Flintstone! Bam bam bam bam....oops, wrong character. Anoop: Why on earth, whenever Anoop goes uptempo, does the lighting crew make the stage look like The Matrix mating with Space Invaders? Sheesh. Anyway, Anoop sounds quite good, and does bring some good energy, but some of it looked a little calculated. It was definitely better than Beat It, but not My Prerogative. And I thought Simon and Kara were a weeeee bit harsh. So did Anoop....he looked downright pissed! Megan: Ambitious song choice, and she actually sounds ok at first.....Sort of like Nelly Furtado. Towards the end, though, she does fall apart, both on pitch and timing. Compared to last week, she was better, but still not near good enough. Danny: Appropriate song choice, given the week he had, and the best he's sounded since the Hollywood rounds. It almost looked too easy. The last 2 weeks, he's only been just good, but this week, he turned in a mostly great performance. I'll explain the "mostly" a little later on... Pebbles Iraheta: Ok, let's get this out of the way first....the outfit was a little too outrageous. But at least she sticks out. Now, the performance: I liked it. Quite a bit, actually. I liked the guitar, I liked the spotlight just on her playing and singing during the opening verse. And i Liked how she let it rip towards the end. Was it her personal best? Not quite, but her voice is still killer, and she still deserves to go far. Scott: No band....no backup singers....yay!! Despite a few wobbly notes, this was definitely Scott's personal best. And really, as a piano player, you can't go wrong with a Billy Joel song. Ben Folds would have been a more ambitious choice, but this was still well done. Matt: I KNEW he was going to sing this! Knew it! Buuuuuut.....it was a bad choice for Matt. While on one hand I was glad that he toned down the riffs, the annoying bleat in his voice came back and really messed up his pitch. I liked that he played out in the audience for a change, but this was still not a good performance at all. Lil: Oh goodie...we have our resident Diva Performance. Nothing really wrong with singing Celine, but I wish she could have chosen Taking Chances or I Drove All Night just so she could be more modern. The chorus was sung pretty well (the verse, not so much), but the stage presence was so plastic and beauty queenish, I expected her to smile really really wide and show off vaseline-coated teeth. Didn't do it for me. Adam: hey, he kept the Elvis hair. The arrangement was more grunge-like and alternative, and Adam goes back to his signature Steven Tyler-meets-Axl Rose upper register. Very well done, though I kinda miss the sitars. Kris: Fantastic. Really Fantastic. Not only did Kris's voice fit Bill Wither's work like a glove, but he created a brilliant, up-to-date arrangement that was the one element missing from Danny's performance. It really was like I was hearing "Ain't No Sunshine' for the first time. And even though I'm not completely attached to the show this year. I'd consider downloading this performance. Overall....a few good to great perforamnces, but also about 2-3 clunkers. Hmm. Rankings: Kris Adam Danny Allison Scott Anoop Lil Megan Matt Edited by TigerCubGirl, Mar 31 2009, 07:05 PM.

I'm just now watching AI and Anoop is the only singer who has performed so far. I thought he did a good job with the song, but I agreed that he looked like a wannabe. I' m curious to see what the voters think... ( I haven't read Tiger's recap yet.) Am I the only one who wants to give his eyebrows a wax job?

Jan-I'll heat up the wax! They are kind of distracting. My husband used to Dj for weddings and Bar Mitzvahs and such. We had this karaoke video thing where the kids could sing and make a video of themselves to take home. All the lighting around him and posturing Anoop does reminded me of those. He sounded OK but I didn't like the song at all. Megan was BORING. I tuned out about 1/3 of the way through the song. Completely lost interest. I agree with Kara-Megan is in trouble. Love Love LOVE Danny Allison was among my least favorites this week...It surprised me that I didn't like her performance very much since she's been a favorite of mine since the beginning. Scott looked good and sounded really good this week. I liked his arrangement of the song and think Billy Joel is a good fit for him. I though Matt was terrible. He sounded off and strained and looked uncomfortable. Lil was a disappointment this week too. I like her personality and usually like the way she sings but the past couple of weeks just haven't been too good for her. Adam is an amazing performer. Even his weird creepy version of Ring of Fire was amazing (in a weird and creepy way) I really got into his performance and the arrangment of the song. I'm impressed by how comfortable he moves around and used the whole stage. I really like this kid-and his new performance day hair. I feel sorry for anyone who has to perform right after Adam. I was still a little awed by Adam and barely registered Kris' performance. What I heard of it sounded ok to me though. So who's going home this week? I think it will be Megan wih Matt running a close second. |

Somehow Megan always seems to skirt the bottom three though... I wonder what will happen tomorrow. I'm still not feeling Adam... I feel like I totally missed the bus. But I do not get it. I am, however, confident that he will win. Although I would rather see Danny or Kris there. I have not watched the last 5 seasons of Idol because when Fantasia won I was so upset (I didn't like Diana either... I just really didn't like Fantasia. At. All.) I swore I'd never watch again. So this is my first season watching again after 5 years... not sure how I feel about it to be perfectly honest. I do love Kara though. |

I have to agree ...with what TigerCub said. No matter what Kris sings, he can't do anything wrong ... as I said earlier ... I will have to wait and see if Kris Allen goes through on American Idol the day b4. ANTM with Clay.. I want Kris to WIN so bad! He sort of reminds me of Clay! .... He's very talented. I can't wait to see what he sings on Tuesday! If Kris does good he shouldn't have a problem going through. I wonder what year he was born that way I can figure out what "Song of his birth year" he'll be singing. Wendy Edited by krazy4clay09, Apr 3 2009, 12:01 PM.
