I may be a little late getting the recap up. The second hour (which was really unnnecesary, because I KNOW they've had top 10 shows there were only an hour in the past) is on at the same time as Lost, and I'm afraid for me, the island takes Priority over a reality show. I'll be taping and watching after it's over.

Shut up, voiceover man. Nice tutu, Paula. Ryan, why must you specifiy that people were sick with Influenza B? Why can't you just be normal and call it the flu, and not try to sound like a health professional?

Matt: This performance further illustrated how much I prefer him on the piano, as I liked the first 30 seconds better than the rest of it. That said, I can recognize a good performance overall, and Matt delivered. The boy-band runs still aren't my cup of tea, but this was a great opening performance nonetheless.

Kris: Very nice build at the beginning, and I like that he got the guitar out again. However, the band drowned the guitar out completely. he sang quite well, especially with a great ending note. Though I have to say that those numbers on his shirt distracted me for about half the song. Overall, though, pretty solid.

Scott: I like that he went uptempo, but I still think he could have chosen a better song. Furthermore, he still needs to work on his upper register, as he's still having a bit of trouble hitting the high notes. He did get me to tap my feet, though.

Megan: Honestly, I didn't think this would be a good theme for her...and I was right. There were a few good moments, but mostly she was all over the place. Add to that the fact that her dress and sleeve tatoo made her look like a human map, and you have quite a spectacle, and not in a good way. I stil do like Megan, but she's not showing her potential at all.

Anoop: I'm a little surprised that Anoop decided to ballad it up 2 weeks in a row, particularly on a song that I always thought was sung by a woman. Man, this song has a lot of falsetto in it! Anoop hit almost every note (veering slightly off-pitch on one or two), and sold yet another great performance. It didn't have the impact that Always on My Mind did last week, but still great.

Lil: OK, whoever did Lil's extensions should be fired. Seriously, from a distance it looks like she has Princess Leia's hair. Her Flapper dress is cool, though. As for the performance....predictable song choice, and a slightly shouty vocal. It was better than last week, but I'm still not overly impressed with Lil.

Michael: I really didn't think this was as bad as the judges thought. But on the second glimpse at the end of the show, it did sound pretty rough. His rasp from being sick was prominent, especially on the ending notes. however, I liked his energy, and I thought he had some good parts in the beginning. I dunno though.

Adam: Yeep, he eerily looks like Madame Toussant's Elvis wax figurine. How much product was in that hair? Oh nevermind....because Adam pretty much smoked everyone tonight. That was an understated, soft, beautiful vocal, that hit every single falsetto and then some. Before tonight, the field seemed to have evened out some. With that performance, Adam just pulled ahead. Brilliant.

Danny: You'd think that a great singer like Danny can hold his own while following such a big performance. Wellllll......kind of. He picks a song that I really like, but I'm not sure it's the type of song that's good for Idol. And hold on a minute. They showed him saying he was going to sing the end lines in his video clip....and then he doesn't sing them live! Did he forget, or did he change his mind at the last minute? Or was it something else? Who knows? He sounds good, but I found myself snickering at him trying to dance with the backups. I like that he was having fun, but that kind of came off as a bit silly. Overall, not a bad performance at all, but for the second week in a row, Danny was just good, not great.

Allison: You remember Paula's prediction of the final 2? Well there's a pretty good chance that Allison could end up spoiling it, because WOW! Swagger, chops, personality (loved that she laughed at Paula's "moustache").....she really has it all. If she is in the Bottom 3 again, something is very wrong.

Overall, a mostly good night, with a couple of subpar performances, but also with 2 standout-excellent performances.

Rankings:

Adam

Anoop

My picks:

Adam (wow!) :clap
Allison (Fantastic!) :thumbsup
Danny (Love him) :heart And I liked the running around and the bit of choreography with the backups.

Matt
Kris
Anoop

Lil
Michael
Scott
Megan

I am so annoyed with myself. I taped AI because I wanted to switch over at 9 and watch LOST, but we forgot to switch over! I remembered about halfway through and we recorded only the 2nd half of Lost. Grrr! Maybe I will try to watch the first half on Hulu if it is there... :scratch_head

In my opinion, Megan should go home. She is beautiful, and I really liked her cololful appearance tonight, but her performance was a train wreck. :nono

Adam and Allison are both amazing to hear and see. I usually base my pick for a winner on who I would PAY to go see. I'd pay to see either of them anyday. I didn't actually 'see' Allison tonight but I could hear her and she sounded terrific, unlike Lil, who yelled most of her song. I loved the way Adam looked, he really is quite cute when he's not trying to look all 'emo' (according to my son that's what his look is :dunno )

I always like Danny and tonight was no exception. I like that he did that little bit of choreography with the backup singers. I don't like it when they are singing an uptempo song and they take it too seriously. Fun is good!

I really enjoyed Anoop although I thought he sounded better in the session with Smokey Robinson than he did in is actual performance.

I'm still not 'feelin' it' for Matt or Kris. I keep waiting for the other four guys from the boy band to come and back them up.

I thought Michael would do better this week than he did. He is so cute and has a pretty nice voice but he lacks...something, confidence, a certain comfort level on stage. I don't know exactly but I think it's holding him back.

I was listening to Meghan's session with Smokey from the kitchen and didn't tlike it then. I likes it even less when she did her actual performance. She's in trouble this week.

Scott reminds me of Billy Joel a bit. I'd like to hear him perform something he's written.
I can understand his reluctance to get out from behind the piano when he performs. It would add a whole other set of things for him to think about when he was singing. He's have to count his steps around the stage, remember his orientation to the audience, find his was to the mark after he was finished.

Looks like we all agree that the bottom is going to consist of Meghan, Michael, Scott and Lil in some variation.

Speaking of Lil, (or "Little" as Simon calls her :wink ) while she was singing I said to my husband the same things that the judges were saying. I asked him, "Is it just me or is there too much going on up there? It's like she is screaming and the whole thing is too fast." I was almost surprised that the judges agreed with me.

I have to say that I rather like this new kinder, gentler Simon. He says what he thinks but he seems to be more relaxed and is less reluctant to say something positive to the contestants than he used to be. That said, this is a really good season for real singers... lots of good competition.

I'm still not an Adam fan, but he did do well with the song last night. Lil seems to be highly overated.

My picks to be in the bottom three

Megan, Scott & Michael with Megan going home.

Yes, Jan, I've noticed that Simon seems to have toned it down.

Well, another shocker. Matt G in the bottom 3. I was not surprised to see Michael go.

I didn't expect Matt in the bottom three either. Sad to see him go but not surprised. Although, I would have preferred to see Megan go before him.
