That voiceover man is still driving me nuts....please fire him. It's Grand Ole Opry night....let's go. Michael: Hmmm.....I liked how energized he was, and he hit MOST of the words, but there were moments where he was a bit winded. I remember LaToya London naling this back in season 3, and I'm afraind Michael came up a bit short. Allison: Good song choice, and her voice adapted very well. I did notice a bum note right in the middle, but really, who cares? This girl has chops and confidence that go beyond her years, and I hope she goes really far. Kris: Very nice! This is one of Garth Brooks' more underrated songs, and Kris did a version just as honest and vulnerable as the original. His voice, while tender, isn't the most glorious in the world, but the feeling and passion he injected the song with sold the performance. Lil: yeah.....this really did not work. Independence Day will always be Martina's song to me, and even if Lil did put more of an R&B spin on it, I doubt it would have changed my mind. her voice did not fit the song at all, and the beginning was quite flat. I didn't like this at all. Simon called her Little...Ha! Adam: Oh my....to say that was strange would be an understatement. That was VERY strange! With an Egyptian-like arrangement, Adam starts out purring the lyrics, then as the song picks up, he goes into his signature full-on wail that people either love or hate. Me.....I thought it was pretty cool, though I felt that the wailing was a little unnecessary. it's funny that Randy compared it to Nine Inch Nails covering Johnny, since Johnny covered the Nine Inch Nails song Hurt back in 2003. It kinda DID sound that way, really. For good or bad, I believe that performance may just be one of the most memorable ones in the entire series Scott: Very good and solid, but I think Scott might get lost in the mix. I'd love for him to stick with the piano, but I hope he beefs up his song choices a little bit. this one was fine, but it needs to be more than just "fine". Alexis: I'm not sure exactly what the judges were hearing. I thought she did very well. Her falsetto does need some serious work, but I thought she sang well enough and put enough feeling into the performance to stick out. And it's ok if she wants to tone down the "naughty" every once in a while. Danny: Idol sin! Idol sin! it's a good thing Danny is a great singer, because so far, I think his song choices have sucked. Jesus Take the Wheel is a good song, but I really do not like it when contestants sing former Idols' songs. Danny starts out dull and lifeless and a little under the note, but kicks into gear at the chorus. The last 30 seconds sound pretty good, but still this performance overall left me cold. Anoop: Atta boy....There's the great singer we all knew was there! Great song choice, great arrangement, great singing....and I actually got a chill. For the first time this season, I got a chill. Thank you, Anoop. Hands-down the best performance of the night. Megan: Madame Caw-Caw comes out dressed as a Betta fish....and delivers a pretty good performance. it's obviously not pitch-perfect, but as I'm listening to her, I hear a very Bjork-like quality that's actually very recordable. She picks a MUCH better song than last week, and makes me thing that she MIGHT not be going this week. Matt: Sheesh, another Carrie song. however, unlike Danny, Matt was able to make it more original. No, I'm still not a fan of his voice, but that was the best he's sounded so far. And of COURSE he reminds you of Michael Buble and Justin Timberlake , Randy...he's their lovechild! Overall, this was a very interesting night. not only did we get one of the strangest performances in the history of the show, but a couple of the frontrunners were completely outsung by a few underdogs. Rankings: Anoop Matt Kris Adam Allison Megan Alexis Danny Scott Michael Lil Edited by TigerCubGirl, Mar 17 2009, 07:23 PM.

Tiger-I always look forward to reading your take on Idol each week. I agree that Anoop was the best of the bunch tonight. Great song, voice was right on and he changed it up just enough so that he respected the iconic nature of the song but still made it his own. Adam-Wow. I thought it was a little creepy actually. But the boy has skill and amazing talent so I hope he stays around.I don't get the hype about Matt G. He, like Kris, seems very 'boy band' to me. Both leave me feeling flat. Megan still seems awkward although I like her voice. Paraphrasing what Simon once said to our man- I like her better with my eyes closed. But I have to give her credit for getting out there with the flu and turning in a pretty good performance. Allison is the frontrunner of the girls for me. Lil's choice this week was all kinds of wrong, Alexis was definitely channeling her inner Dolly and fell kind of short of the mark for me. I like Scott but he is the same each week. He needs to step it up big time next week if he's still around. Michael is so likeable, but not the greatest talent they have this season. I don't remember Latoya London doing that song (I've tried to delete most of season three from my memory-all of it actually, except Summertime) but I do remember Josh Gracin doing it in season two. Danny was OK. The last part of the song was MUCH better than the first part. It almost seemed like he was just trying to get through the verses so he could get to the chorus where his voice could really shine. I can't pick who should go home this week. I can bet it won't be Anoop or Allison.. Adam may be in trouble if people are creeped out by his very strange arrangement and performance. We'll see. Thank you Tiger and Secret for your detailed critiques. Here are my rankings. Anoop Kris Matt Lil' Rounds Allison Danny Alexis Megan Michael Scott Adam I know he is far removed from country music, but he could have chosen a country rock song. Who should go home....Scott....he has the weakest voice. |

I won't try to rate the order in which the contestants appealed to me. I will just comment on the ones which moved me. Kris, because I love that song,'To Make You Feel My Love'. His voice is nice, and his performance was good. He is a cutie too, but he will not win the competition. Danny.... he seems so real and genuine -and to me is what the show should be about. There is a lot of talent on the show this season... and I think the competition is really stiff. I wasn't thrilled with his song choice of "Jesus Take the Wheel". but I love.. and I mean LOVE his voice! I told my husband that I would buy any album put out by Danny because I think I would enjoy any song he sang with that voice. That said, I actually "woo hooed" and applauded after Anoop's performance. I haven't done that since Clay's 'Solitaire'. Don't get me wrong, he is no Clay Aiken, but I really loved his performance of 'You Were Always on My Mind'. Just a beautiful perfection of vocals.

Thanks for the recap, once again, a great job! I am pretty close to your list, but I really did not like Adam's performance at all. Lil really did miss the mark. I too hope Scott starts making some better song choices. I think he is talented. Anoop really was terrific! What a nice rebound! Anoop Kris Matt Allison Megan Alexis Danny Scott Michael Adam Lil |

I didn't think it would be Alexis either. I was surprised that Allison was in the bottom three also. |

Hi all CDBS! Tiger - great recap! I will say this. Adam is very interesting. It was actually very very strange and a bit creepy, but I would like to still see him through the competition. He does have a good voice and I await every week to see what he'll do next!! I LOVE Anoop - I just love him. Danny is sweet and has a good voice. Allison has a good voice, like her style Kris is adorable and I liked the song. Matt and Michael are just ok to me. Michael did put a lot of energy into the song. Scott does really have to step up his performance a bit. Lil does have potential but I don't think she'll win. Megan probably won't make it all the way through. She hasn't got a wonderful voice, but she's very attractive and nice to listen to. So here is my opinion: Anoop Allison Danny Kris Michael Scott Matt Adam Megan Lil |
