Terms and shortforms you might encounter when playing online General shortforms afk = away from keyboard bb = bye bye bbl = be back later brb = be right back bs = bullshit OR backstab (an ambush) buff = make something better (an ability, stats, items etc) dw = dont worry gj = good job gl hf = good luck, have fun gw = good work imba = imbalanced lo = hello lol = laughing out loud nerf = make something worse (an ability, stats, items etc) nm = nvm = never mind ppl = people Dota related shortforms b = back = retreat bkb = black king bar dd = doubledamage dmg = damage dota = defence of the ancients dps = damage per second eos = eye of skadi fend = defend gg = good game ks = killsteal mkb = monkey king bar pub = pubbie = public = public game rax = barracks, if yours is destroyed the opposing team's creeps get stronger regen = regeneration rm = remake ror = ring of regenation roh = ring of health ulti = a hero's ultimate spell crit = critical HP = hit points MP = mana points noob = someone relatively new to the game XP = Experience AoE= Area of effect. Used to describe spells which target an area rather then a single unit dps = damage per second ff = forfeit mia = missing in action. Used to tell others that the enemy hero(s) in your lane is missing Dota related terms Spells or item ability that render one "helpless", might prevent him from running, attacking, casting of spells, etc. Backdooring Happens when the enemy hero attacks your tower/buildings without any of his/her creeps around, even if his/her creeps are 1 wave behind from reaching the tower/building Buff Make something better (an ability, stats, items, etc.) Carry A hero that farms for a majority of the game then leads(carries) the team to victory. Disable Farm Activity of gaining gold by attacking enemy spawns or neutral creeps. Farming also means earning gold. Feed Means dying to enemy hence granting opponents gold and experience points making them stronger as a result. Feeder An ally who repeatedly dies to enemy granting opponents gold and experience points making them stronger as a result. Gank The process of grouping together to ambush/kill heroes, same as rape and gangbang Inhouse A game in which players who join are from a specific channel/clan, usually seen as more of a competitive style of play as opposed to public games. Killsteal/Ks Stealing a kill from your allies by delivering the final blow to kill enemy hero/tower/creeps/spawns, hence getting the kill score and gold. Leech standing safe distance from attacks and gaining exp without combat. Nerf Make something worse(an ability, stats, items, etc.) Nuke Magical/"Physical" spells / ability that require casting which is used to hurt a enemy hero. Push Concentrating on destroying towers on a specific lane and generally making grounds. Team sell All items from the leaver's hero are sold at half price and everybody from his team receive equal part of the money. Actually the team is loses out because only half the invested money is distributed. It is a better strategy to distribute the items among the players in a way that the greatest advantage from them will be received. |
