Ambitions of a Fool

And so he stood there, 5 floors up in an unfinished and abandoned block of flats, no walls, just the world outside, and yet strangely, this was home. Lucius was leaning against one of the columns which held up the concrete mass as it towered over the shops and people below, staring down at the world below. It was relaxing for him though. Any closer and he could have felt any number of their thoughts... and number of their emotions... and undoubtedly, all their sadness. The West Side of the city was nothing short of hell for those who lived there. It was the last place anyone would end up before finally giving up on life... Lucius knew that thought well. The people here struggled for everything they had, as had Lucius, only managing to gained most of his belongings through a fusion of chance, thievery and his powers. He hated his powers, he could barely control them. Its why he had chosen to remain so high up, so that he could simply sleep without hearing the voices of the dying screaming in his head. So that he had somewhere to go away from everything, where the only thoughts in his head were his own. And so he would stand there, glaring down on the wreck of a world below as he drew a coin out of his pocket with his telekinesis and floated it just above the palm of his hand, rotating it at increasing speed. He had sat around long enough waiting for his life to lead him to some happy ending which didn't exist. If he was going to reach the end he wanted, he had to make it himself... by whatever means necessary.

His grasp would close around the coin, stopping it mid spin and forcing it flat against the palm of his hand before putting it in his pocket and making his way down to ground level. Lucius would be dressed in his civilian attire as he stepped out onto the street, the voices and emotions in his head slowly increasing in mass as he made his way towards the central area of the West Side. He would concentrate as he walked, trying to distinguish basic thoughts as he walked by, trying to find someone who could... help... him in his cause. Unfortunately, this wasn't an easy task. Of course, it was a case of waiting for the right moment. On many days he would simply wander through the center of the area hundreds of times in order to benefit at other people's expenses, some days getting reasonable hauls, some days getting the equivalent to nothing. For now though, it was another day, trying to get what he needed in order to truly initiate his plan...

In that rugged place there was one person which was completely intense, standing on the very edge of a roof top. He didn't want to die, he wanted everything else but to die, though like usual life had never been fair to him either. Standing there he simply looked down but no one looked up. Seems like suicide in these parts was normal, well.

"I am having a bad bad day, it's about time things go my way....No money, No women, No shit.... everything just needs to be my way"

The man, called Alan was contemplating wether he would jump or not though in a scale of a person wishing to kill himself he was far off. The decision was more wether he should take jog to the park next by or take his car to the garage, rather than jump off ~ around 6 floors high. He probably wouldn't even be phased by it.

The area was reasonably busy considering the state of things, but no more than was usual, a few people here and there, but not much compared to the other districts. Of course, Lucius was one of the few people who had decided to go out on a leisurely walk around the slum of a district. Almost all he could feel was people's depression though it was nothing different from usual. It was an unwelcome sign of being in the West Side, well, that and the wrecked buildings, they never really helped the image at all. Nonetheless, Lucius made his way through the sparsely populated streets, keeping his mind open to anyone with thoughts which might benefit him. Of course, as it stood, there was no one. Most people were wondering how the heck they were going to go about getting any money, let alone having any to spend. After a bit of walking around Lucius would simply sigh. It was as good as a lost cause, but it was the only thing he could hope with... for now.

Lucius followed the streets, still hoping in the back of his mind that he would come across a good haul, however what he came across was far different. As he turned the corner, there was a change in the emotions he could feel, and one of the thoughts in his head had varied, rather dramatically, from the others. It was frustration rather than depression, but it was what the person was contemplating which confused him. Who the hell makes those kind of decisions? Jumping off a 6 floor building or taking your car to the garage? Admittedly the person's thoughts had indicated a slight lack of money but even still, suicide due to a broken car?! Overkill. Somewhat confused, Lucius would look up, trying to find this person, quickly finding his eyes locked on one of the taller buildings in the area with an albeit good looking man standing on the edge. He seemed to be dressed rather nicely considering his situation, but who was Lucius to judge. The question now though was what should he do? Should Lucius try and talk to the man, or just leave the bugger to his own confusion? The first option was the more humane option, besides, the West Side had enough suicides without another one being added to the list. Lucius would walk over to just below the man and stare up, his eyes locked on Alan as stood with hands in pockets below.

"Trust me, jumping won't solve anything..."

He wasn't all that used to talking people down from rooftops. Most of the time he would just leave the morons to their fate, but this one intrigued him, though he couldn't quite pinpoint exactly why.

"It was broken, shattered, destroyed.... Everything is like that when I touch it."

Alan spoke loudly, if only the man was on the roof top along with him. After all the picture would never be full from just this side of the coin. Around six bottles of whisky thrown around on the roof, a few broken from the bottom others the top.

"Lies! Come jump with me, it usually fix things....It breaks things too!"

The lad hurled his hands upward as though inviting the only pair of eyes which caught his attempt to do the same. a bottle slided across the roof would fall from under Alans leg. Things should be cleared up now, a broken window and three flat tires.

"My baby.... They hurt my baby! ~ why couldn't they just stick to other ugly bitches.... I hate them."

Alan stood on one leg, wobbled a bit and then back to his previouse state.

"Come.... up here ~ I'll wait."

Like a lot of people could very well have been, Lucius was of the mind to give this guy the lunacy sticker, although his mind was changed upon the sight of the bottle falling. The guy was drunk, and now Lucius also knew why. The guy had his car trashed. His thoughts had given that much away. Admittedly, it was a nice car, but something to get hopelessly drunk over... nah, or at least, not in Lucius' mind. At one moment he almost thought that Alan would jump from the roof before falling back to a sense of balance.

"Well... I'm hardly doing much down here at the moment..." Lucius would say under his breath. "I'll be up in a moment."

He almost regretted saying the words. All he wanted to do was to leave this man to his own devices and let him sober up over his car, but then what was he going to do? Look for someone to steal money from? The problem was that there was no money on people to steal. The people were broke. Going over to a rather decrepit looking door, Lucius would enter the building and begin climbing the stupid amount of staircases to the roof.

"This better be worth it..."

The roof door would burst open and Lucius would begin walking towards the drunken man, still questioning exactly why he was doing this. He would stop just behind the man, he didn't want to get too close in case he felt like doing anything erratic.

"So... who hurt your... baby...?"

"Who? Ofcourse it's them."

Alan even when he is drunk knew never to speak of that, the mafia was after him. They didn't know him but they sure knew which block he lived in and everyone there was starting to break under the trashing.

"My baby... it was the most beautiful on the block. I should just finish them off, all of em!"

Alan was seriously thinking of a mass murder, not in the drunken sense. He was fully confident of his ability that he could finish off the mafia after him. Ofcourse he was too drunk to actually think of the method to do soo nor the motivation but revenge would find it's way. The lad legs gave way as soon as he remembered the bill for the repairs, collapsing on the edge but ended up sitting rather than standing quite safely. One hand, over his head...

"Come sit, Gaaaah.... it hurts, Can I have some water?"

Still in a daze, the lad asked.

The man was talking in riddles, and had Lucius been any normal person he wouldn't have been able to understand anything, though Lucius wasn't normal. His powers had led him here, and it was his powers which were allowing him to perfectly understand the otherwise drunken rantings of the man before him. A sense of fear and anger swept through the man as his stood before Lucius, and it all seemed to revolve around the mafia. The question however was why, and it was probably the one question that Lucius couldn't answer with his powers. Alan's thoughts however began to intrigue Lucius, they were getting darker, more sinister, though that was only part of it. This man... he didn't just believe he could defeat them... he knew he could. There was no doubt within him, drunk or not, and it impressed Lucius, though this in itself raised a question. How could he be so fully confident that he could take down an entire organization alone?

Lucius lurched forward as the man's legs almost gave way, only holding himself back as the man regained his balance of his own accord and sat down. The car seemed to mean an unbelievable amount to Alan. Lucius could only fathom a guess as to why. There was still so much behind this man, Lucius was sure of it. All he needed to do was figure out exactly why this guy was so confident in his ability and then Lucius would be able to make a choice on his path.

"One moment. I'll go see if I can find something."

Lucius would turn around and head down one of the flights of stairs to the floor below and rummage through cupboards and pull out a bowl. There was nothing else of any vague use in there; it would have to do. He would go over to the tap and drain out what little water he could into the bowl before going back up and handing it to Alan.

"Here you go."

Lucius would stare out over the West Side momentarily before taking a seat next to the man. So long as Lucius could monitor the thoughts around him there was very little he could be surprised by, so safety was ensured enough.

"So how exactly do you plan on taking these... people... down?"

Now it was time to dig, to uncover the information Lucius so desired. He didn't even need Alan to say it, merely think it to himself, and he would know if this man was worth his time, or just another drunken fool with a nice drop in the near future.

"Thank you..."

Alan took the bowl in one hand, a bit unbalanced as somce water fell of the edges before it came to his mouth and he took a huge gulp. Tap water, tasted like sea water and Alan never liked that but his senses dulled by the alcohol made no indication of such.

"Look down on everyone who do not know the true value... you know what? I need someone like you."

the lad was thinking something completely different, a person to watch his back to save him when things get out of hands to keep him company in situations just like this and this person seemed to fit the catogaries, he could be poor too which also meant that Alan could get him a job, or even make him work for him even though he wasn't the richest person around but he knew the way to get the things he wanted, all in all he needed a friend more than a lackey but the latter was nice too.

Deep Inside his mind however he actually thought of the man question though in the sense of how he did kill rather than how he would kill. Which in a way only showed things he actually did rather than thinking of doing, which gave a bitter taste in the water he just drank. A burn out of a brothel filled with whores, sharpened pencil assualt to the necks, A car explosion, running a person by a car, A bullet to the head, a rain of bullets to the body, a five stories dive without a parachute, electricuting and enough fear to give a heart attack though these can all be done without a power but even then what kind of person can find the oppurtunity to do all these things.

So Alan stood up rather hasty, a hand grabbing Lucious by his arm geting him up too.

"Do you want to go to a place where everything seems different?"

He would wait for the man to agree as the bowl of water started to give away it's content to the street, even though Alan didn't think of how he would land safely nor did he have the slightest clue that this attempt was dangerous but the man test was this. Would he jump with Alan and face a little bit of fear?

"Lets Jump."

Alan would wait for the man to take the step along with him, synchronizing in a sense. If the jump did happen, Alan would introduce himself while in mid air... if not then this man was not worth the introductions and Alan would jump alone.

Merely listening to the man speak was enough to raise the curiosity within Lucius, let alone knowing his thoughts. Having conversations with others always gave him a clear understanding of them, mainly because their surface thoughts didn't always follow the conversation, and as such, allowed him to find out more than the person may have intended. Rather useful. It was like being a human lie detector in a way, though it wasn't always a good thing. Lucius often found out... too much. There are always some things which should remain secret, and many people... many friends... had been lost thanks to that knowledge. Alan however seemed... different... at lest for now. He was being genuine. What Lucius was seeing right now was him. Lucius saw all of the events as Alan brought them to the front of his mind, but also felt Alan's feelings. He wasn't proud of what he had done. The pair were the same in that sense. Lucius wasn't proud of his actions, but at the same time, for both of them, they were necessary.

And so he would sit there, listening to Alan and his thoughts while staring at the people below before speaking.

"I guess we all need someone in this world. Its just a case of finding them first."

Lucius would then find a hand dragging him up, followed by a surreal question. In the back of his mind he wanted to simply turn and walk away, however that curiosity lurched forward. He was so close to finding out the truth behind this man, however he would have to risk a 6 floor drop in order to do so. If only he had his grappling hook and he would have jumped without an inch of reservation. What a time not to dress up like a moron. Lucius would look down into the eyes of Alan as the pair stood for a second, before walking over to the edge and gazing not down, but ahead, the sun beaming towards him. Ironic, the metaphor which would become Lucius' life taking true form at this exact point. Plunging into the darkness. He would take one look over to Alan before both took the step over the edge... and began falling.

The two of them would begin to fall, a smile on Alan face never let of his face as he watched the man expression. He was happy the man could follow him to where he wanted to go, down to the deepest edges of darkness.

"You passed."

Alan said in mid air, they where falling down. Two men facing a concrete ground one of them indifferent about the situation the other keeping his hope on the other.

"The name is Alan. Alan Quinn.... A.K.A Phantom."

Alan would wait for lucious to introduce himself. As they closed in on the ground just a few moment from impact the two men would simply dissapear from there spot in a puff of black shroud and reappear standing straight on the side of the road.

"Your specail too, aren't you."

Alan would laugh lightly, he was somehow glad this person had such strong will. He would continue walking slowly expecting the man to follow him, not that he had much of a doubt. but he knew that he needed to get away from the place where two men simply poofed out of exestance.

It was a strange feeling... falling... for that brief moment in time, everything turns to a blur. Nothing matters, only the sensation of the fall. In truth, Lucius almost enjoyed it. As they flew through the air, the man introduced himself as Alan Quinn. Otherwise known as Phantom. Thats when pieces began falling in Lucius' mind. There were very few people who took on alter-egos, but those who did tended to be... like him.

"Lucius Harrow... or Gazer... your choice."

It was the first time he had used his other name. Was rather fitting considering his powers. The question was, what were Alan's? Of course seconds later it would be answered as a black shroud covered them both before reappearing a second later, standing on the side of the road. Teleportation. Well that was one of them. And then came Alan's statement. There wasn't much else for Lucius to do. Alan had shown him his power, now was time for Lucius. He would focus and transfer his words to Alan's mind.

Yes... I am.

It had been a while since he had used his powers like this, but it was nice being able to use them and not be thought of as a freak. As expected of him, Lucius would follow Alan, once again being indulged in the thoughts and emotions of everyone around him. A gift... or a curse... In Lucius' case, it was both.

"So whats the extend of your... abilities?"

He would wait for a reply. Not that he needed much of one, all he needed was for Alan to think what he could do and he would know, but it was the less intrusive way of doing things. He would wait for a reply before explaining his own.

"I can read thoughts and project my own, feel the emotions of others, see the past of things I touch, and move things without touching them. In short, I'm psychic."

These words ringing through his head reminded him of someone else, apparently a lady telepath which he rather enjoyed the company off. Emotions and thoughts were all clear to them, the type of people where secrets cannot behidden from. Telepaths. In short, Alan had his share of Telepaths in his few ventures as his alter ego.

"You people... Heh."

It was something rather nostalgic in a way since he no longer needed to make a long speach to explain but the man can listen straight to the idea. My type of powers are more situation oriented, more into the moleculars of things... They call us Dealers. It was rather short but it was true, his class was made to deal with as many situations as possible. Focusing on things closer to science though that would be futuristic science, Teleporation being one of them as you so experiance is rather instant movement if not displacement which is rather handy, I must admit. Still a bit boozy it seems. Other than that, as Phantom I am untouchable. This last word came with a short clip from Alan memory which he specifically brought foreward. The clip was from the eyes of Alan viewing an ally, on each side a car was parked and it's windows rolled down and gun shots where released ~ lots of them and they simply passed through ~ there was one more power but Alan simply lost it due to his boozy state until Lucius or Gazer started to talk about his own.

"Thats rather helpful indeed, I think I have something simliar to that too."

Alan laughed at his forgetfullness about his own teleknessis, his hand slightly hitting his pants pocket. It would have helped slowed down the fall. That short boost of adrenaline sure made him happy as everything zapped by though.

"Lunch is on me, to celebrate this meeting you must be atleast hungry if you live around here."

But Alan had a few doubts he wanted to cleat As you might know I have a number of people to take care off... although it's for a greater good my own motive of revenge does smug the cause, do you mind knowing a person like me? Alan simply needed to be sure that he won't be dragging a person into a place he never wanted to step into or experiances that he would not be able to forget after all it was closer to fighting an army rather than just one man and some people can't live with a person who had blood on his hand.

Well, this clearly was not the first time he had met someone with special powers, or even a telepath. His thoughts seemed to indicate another who had helped him understand what were the extent of their powers. Well, at least Alan knew what he was in for. And so he took advantage of it, directing his own thoughts towards Lucius, explaining all his powers. The man was a Dealer. Not a name Lucius was too familiar with, but with the combination of abilities that Alan had, he was sure to be deadly to say the least, especially in the right situation. Lucius' hypotheses was confirmed as Alan allowed him to see a rather telling memory. Lucius watched from Alan's eyes as shots were fired towards him from both sides... and they did nothing to him. Not a scratch. Needless to say it was impressive, there are very few who can survive an onslaught like that.

"It has its benefits."

Lucius would reply to Alan's comment, letting out a slight smile of his own at Alan's forgetfulness, trying to keep it subtle as to give the man a sense of at least some privacy. Privacy was always going to be a problem until Lucius learned to control it.

"Thanks, I'd appreciate that."

He had almost nothing, or at least, not enough to buy a meal for himself, though Alan wanted something first. Lucius would continue walking for a moment before finally responding to Alan's question.

I already know a person like you... and believe me... he's not one to talk about revenge.

Lucius would leave the thoughts at that. He wasn't going to elaborate any further.

"So, where are we going now then?"

It wouldn't have been unexpected if they had suddenly teleported into some old bathroom, but asking was still nice.

"Lets see... There is a good italian cuisin a bit far from here, I'm feeling like having some pasta but first I need to toll my babe to some garage."

Alan would take his smart andriod phone~ Alan was never cheap on himself, over at the other end was the person Alan always trusted when it comes to new pain jobs and rims.

"Sup.My man Alan what you calling me for the check up is atleast a week from now.. Well, I need a favor from you.Anything if it comes from Alan. the lady needs some good service, it's back home. What kind of service?... you might need to toll it, long story..You should take better care of the lady Alan. Ehm, Is your insurance still valid.Yeah..Then consider it done. Thanks."

Now thats done, Alan would call over a taxi if there was one over there but until then they would keep on walking heading toward an area where taxi drivers dare to go near. Why does a man take so much care of his car and asks for a taxi when he could simply go anywhere he wanted and instantly one would wonder? The answer is pretty simple, Alan would avoid being seen with powers when he is in his civilain clothes most of the time and he enjoyed the scenery.

"Okay, so how about it? Spagehtte, pizza, pasta.... huh?"

Alan would wave his arm for a taxi to stop, he wasn't the richest man alive but a certain venture had landed him a large sum of money along with his work, and some acquaintances and being a lone man only paying for himself, Money tends to pile it self when you only require half your salary to live with elegantly.

"Sounds good to me."

Truth be told it was something that he had almost forgotten. He had the occasional pizza if he managed to get in a decent haul but he had no way to really have any pasta with the lack of cooking equipment in his unfinished apartment block. It was certainly going to be a treat, that was for sure.

As was normal with him, Lucius got the privilege of listening in on the phone call as the words passed into Alan's mind. He was somewhat amused by their reference to the car as 'The Lady', though many referred to machines as females. This was clearly another case.

Lucius would follow Alan as they hunted for a taxi, however it was as he walked along with him that Lucius felt out of place. This man had nice clothes, a nice car... or did at least, and a nice phone. This man had money. Exactly what Lucius didn't have. Exactly what Lucius would have targeted. Part of his mind toyed with the idea of turning on Alan, taking everything that he had. Making Alan's life his own. Oh how that tasted... the thought so sweet in his mind... begging him to take the first bite. But for the first time in his life, he couldn't. Up to now he had never had any problems with thievery, but now he couldn't, not from this man. He didn't judge Lucius. He accepted him, and it was something that Lucius had never had before. He was his first... true... friend. The pair understood each other more than anyone else. They were two in the same, and although they from different lives, they were walking the same path.

A taxi would finally stop for the pair and Lucius would get in. It was the first time he had gotten a taxi before, let alone going to somewhere like they were. He had the feeling that there was going to be a lot more new feelings before the end of the day... not all of them good as they were now.

"I think I'll go for pasta..."

He had no idea. This was all so new. So alien. Yet, through it all, it felt right. He only wished that one day, he might be able to do this for himself. That he might be able to go out for a meal, get the taxi there, look the part, and be the person people looked up to rather than down on. But first he needed money. That was what made the world turn, and he needed to get his spinning.

Alan would enter the cap, right after Lucius. Giving directions before he turned to look out of the window and then back at the man next to him.

"Sooo what do you do for a living?Lucius."

Alan didn't want to poke any wounds but he wanted to know if the dude wanted a job, if he actually needed a good paying job. It's not that Alan felt any distinct emotion for poor people, infact he could care less what others have in there pockets but then again most people can be driven around by there pocket content.

"Do you want a better job?"

Alan would wait for a reply.

"Do You smoke? Got a license? Have a problem with working really late?"

Alan simply intervied him, not the most common interview place or questions but thats all he needed to know. Well, He does fit the spot rather good. The taxi would soon stop, paying him Alan would step outside and look at the restaurant. Two floor, large sign at the front, nice smell and decent recepetion at the door. Alan would start walking inside, not even giving a glance at his friends wear drobe. He never really felt the need to value a person by what he wears.

"Table for two."

Alan would say to the waitress with a smile as she would lead them, it wasn't a busy day at the restaurant.

Lucius would look at Alan briefly as the first question came out before averting his gaze out of the window.

"I'm currently self-employed." You know what I mean...

He was a thief, plain and simple, but you can't really say that while in the back of a taxi, people tend to get a bit on edge when that kind of stuff happens. His eyes would go back to Alan's as the next question came out, this time a look of unease on his face. Anything was better than this.

"Depends on what the job is?"

Alan was keeping his cards close, as was Lucius. He wasn't about to run blindly into a situation which could do more harm than good, he was smarter than that.

"No, no, and no."

By now Lucius was playing over in his head what the man could potentially mean. What sort of job was Alan trying to get him into. So far his thoughts had been ambiguous, nothing giving any hint of what he wanted, just that there was a 'spot' which needed filling. Lucius would follow Alan out and into the restaurant, giving a brief glance at the waitress before following Alan inside. Talk about feeling uncomfortable.

So what's this 'better job' then?

Lucius would transfer his thoughts to Alan as they walked through the restaurant, following closely behind Alan, almost towering over the man.

OOC: Third time I'm writing this.. Internet stops and I get rebooted.

IC:
Well, it's rather difficult to speak of in the middle of the public for it required secrecy. As an offical member of an orginization which is made only of our kind, I'm allowed a partner like all others. I never found a person to fill the spot for either they were incomptent or there nose is too up there ass to see anything. It pays 3 thousands a month but the real payment comes through the tasks listed in the web. One can easily get a few hundered thousands if he places his life on the line.

The last one was his own personal experiance. Taking a seat as his eyes gazed over the menu before he flattened it, looking at his friend own ordeal. Would he accept following Alan around in his ventures as phantom or would he remain self employed as he is.

"So what do you think?"

Alan would ask, a wave from his hand would after a while ask the waiter to come placing the bread and standing beside them to take there order. Smiling alan would return the menu, since well he knew how to act in places like these.

"Caeser salad, Risotto Ai porcini , Tiramisu"

Alan enjoyed having all his dishes infront of him, since it gave him the ability to switch from one taste to another while waiting for his friends order.

3 thousand a month. That was more than Lucius would make in 5 years at his current rate. Did he really have a choice in this? With the potential to make hundreds of thousands, was this really an offer to turn down. And then there was the members aspect. There were others, like him. Perhaps they could help him develop his powers. If they could help him, he could be so much more... so much more.

As if it was the only decision to make. What the hell was Lucius going to have at the restaurant?! Although they had the english under the titles, he still had no idea what half of this stuff was.

"Anythings better than what I have at the moment, and I really don't have a lot..." Lucius would let out a large sigh before looking Alan in the eyes. "...Count me in."

Whether he was going to regret it or not was yet to be seen, but for now, he had only one direction to go in, and that was up, cause heck, there was nowhere left for him to go down. For now however he would merely gaze at the menu some more, trying to gain some understanding for what half the stuff was. By the time Alan waved the waiter over he was still trying to decipher half the menu, so he took a guess.

"I'll have the Ceaser Salad too, then the Beef Ravioli, and lastly the Strawberry Pannacotta."

All he could do now was hope that what came out was vaguely edible. On the plus side, there was always bread if all else failed...

So... whats required of me for this job then? Do I need to sign up somewhere or do I simple start following you around from the word go?

He wasn't keen on playing second fiddle, but heck, he was playing second fiddle to a guy who couldn't be killed, or at least, not without difficulty.
