Phil stared listlessly out the window as the rain beat against the glass. It was a slow day in general-even slower inside this tiny diner. He was pretty sure he was the only person actually here. Phil had only eaten here at Nikki's a few times, but they had some good things on the menu. Their signature drinks, "Freezie"s, were pretty amazing, in Phil's opinion. Plus, his waitress today was kind of cute. He thought she said her name was Leila when he ordered his Super Large Strawberry Freezie (with real strawberry bits!), but he couldn't quite remember. He'd have to remember to ask her. That wasn't all that was on his mind, unfortunately. That woman from a few days ago, rambling on about Phil needing to meet as many special people as he could...what did she mean by special people? And why the hell did he need to meet them? And how was he even supposed to know whether or not someone was special!? It was a predicament. Maybe one of these 'special' people can tell me how to find more of em...I can always hope, I guess. |

Leila walked briskly to the back and prepared the "Freezie" that the man had ordered. He was polite like most of the customers that came into Nikki's and she was thankful for it. It was a slow day and the rain often made the customers come in with an awful mood. She checked her appearance in a small mirror that hung on the wall before returning- name tag, apron, hair. She wanted to get that extra dollar, plus he was a good looking guy. Placing the drink on a tray she walked back to his booth and caught him staring out the window. She figured she should say something, "Alrighty, here ya go. The Super Large Strawberry Freezie you ordered." she said as she placed the drink on the table. Grabbing some napkins from her apron she placed them on the table as well with his Super Large straw. She smiled politely and asked if she could get anything else for him, wiping some of the strawberries onto the back of her pants- the drink tended to drip down the sides sometimes. |

Phil turned back when he sensed the waitresses' approach, bringing a smile to his face as he received his massive strawberry treat. He was about to say that he was fine, but then thought better of it-this girl had nothing better to do, since, as it turned out, a quick glance would reveal that Phil really was the only one here. Plus, as was mentioned earlier...she wasn't half bad. "Oh, I'm good. Better than that guy, at least." Phil pointed outside to a pudgier man, using his newspaper futilely as an umbrella-the rain was coming down so hard that the only thing he really accomplished was getting ink on his hands. The guy was trying to cross the street, and crossed just as a car came to a screeching and honking halt. Phil inhaled sharply, then let out his breath when the collision didn't happen. "People should be more observant, yano?" He never actually hinted that she should sit, but hopefully the promise of a potential conversation would be enough motivation. Phil sipped out of his Super Large straw, glancing back at Leila and then back out the window. "Name's Phil, by the way." |

Leila nodded to his reply and chuckled. One of her favorite things about a person was a sense of humor. As he pointed out the guy outside she put the tray down and placed her hands on the table, sighing. "That is true indeed. You would think that he could find something better than some newspaper. I mean, that only happens in the movies. The rain was coming down so hard it looked as though it would never end, filling the streets and creating a whole network of streams and rivers. When the man was almost hit by a car she jumped up and a low yelp came from her lips. She turned and looked at the man sitting and her face turned red; she resembled a beet. I'm sorry! But you're right. They should be, especially if they're out in this weather. Embarrassed she turned to leave but turned back around when he spoke. Phil was his name. She realized that this meant that there was more to come than just a few jokes. Leila calmed herself and smiled, fumbling with her hair. I'm Leila. So do you come here often, Phil? Seeing that no one else was in the diner and her boss was busy in the back with the cook she decided to sit down and have a nice chat with the guy. |

Phil laughed as he spoke in response to the sheer movie-quality this conversation seemed to be taking on. "Do I come here often? Maybe we ARE in a movie." He looked out the window again, looking for more unfortunate individuals being stupid in the rain. Most were smart and staying dry, indoors or in a car. "No, not TOO often. I might start showing up a bit more though. The scenery's nice." The scenery's nice? Really dude? Holy shit, she's gonna think I'm a creep now...maybe she won't get what I meant. Phil's eyes darted to her hands-no ring, so she wasn't into anything serious, at least. That, or she just took it off during work...but usually, people had tan lines under their rings, so that wasn't as likely, since she had none. Investigation time. "Do you get many couples in here? Seems like it'd be a decent date spot." |

Witty. She felt a little silly saying such a thing and then following it up with a question that happened to be in most movies. She laughed at his reply anyways covering up a sheepish look. "Maybe we are in one." As a result of fumbling with her hair, her clip began to fall out. Her nose crinkled and she unclipped and clipped it back into place, keeping her bangs from falling into her eyes. As he made a comment about the scenery, she couldn't help but giggle. Scenery? Now that's a good one...considering it's raining outside and not much greenery on the sidewalk. She pretended that she knew what he was talking about, but didn't comment on it thinking that it might embarrass him. "Well I hope you come more often. It's nice to have someone come in and want more than just a cup of coffee, a newspaper, and for you to drop some silverware, if you catch my drift." Leila smiled. Phil was an interesting character and she really did hope that he'd come back and they could sit and have another chat. Couples? We do actually. Mostly high school kids. The girls think it's a cute place and the guys like the burgers. I'm thinking that was the question. Hehe. Smooth. Smooth indeed. |

Aaand here's my opening. Phil smiled as he prepared his next question-the conversation went exactly as he planned. Victory was almost his. "Have you ever been here with your boyfriend? Or would it be weird going on a date to where you work?" Phil kept eye contact now, occasionally sipping from his freezie. This conversation actually had potential to get interesting. Granted, he still needed to find those 'special' people, but there was time for a distraction, at least. Besides, not that he knew it, but this was one of the 'special' people that woman had been talking about anyways. So, in a funny ironic sort of way, he was getting both distracted and right on task at the same time. Funny how things worked out like that sometimes. |

Leila smiled and shook her head to his reply. She knew this was leading to this question, more or less. "I don't, because I don't have a boyfriend." The rain was beginning to lessen and she could see people still walking by the OPEN sign on the door. She was glad they did. She turned when she heard something and much to her dislike her boss walked out with a rag in hand and a smile on her face. Leila's eyes widened as her boss' eyebrows lifted. Crap. I hope she doesn't say something. Right when it was getting good. Leila waved and discreetly shook her head hoping her boss would get the message. She did! She waved back and grabbed a bowl of peanuts she had left on the counter earlier. My turn! "But I'd have to say, it's a cute place to bring your girlfriend here. If you have one of course." |

Phil smiled and looked around, as if he was inspecting the place. "Yea, it's not too bad. I'll have to bring her around then. Just as soon as I can find one." Ok, so you can play the game too. Noted. You are a worthy adversary. Phil started going through a list of ways to ask her out in his head-she obviously was returning his interest. A clean kill, by his estimation. He decided on the easy, direct way. "So, when do you get out of here? We could go try to find other places to bring our future dates. Maybe wind up back here eventually." Winchester, you devil. You handsome, handsome devil. Phil couldn't help but smile-he tried to cover it up with a glance out the window, but the damage was done-it was obvious that he was pleased with how the day had gone, even if, as far as he knew, he was just as far from those 'special' people as before. |

Leila smirked and nodded making sure she remembered that he didn't have a girlfriend. Sometimes she had the memory of a goldfish. "Oh is that so? Uhm...I get off," The chimes attached to the door had chimed announcing someone's entrance. She peered over her shoulder and saw Sean walk through the door. Turning back around, "I'm off now. Oh what perfect timing that boy has." Wow. That sounded a tad desperate. Alright, now to get off the clock and see where this leads. Gotta stop by my apartment though and feed Rosco first. I skipped that this morning.. Leila stood up from the booth and asked if he was finished with his drink. She would take it to the back and clean up, then tell her boss she was leaving for the day. Smiling at Sean and telling him they'd have a talk later, she grabbed her jacket from the back and walked back up front. "I would love to do that, however if this doesn't sound too odd, I need to stop by my place first. I have a hungry lion waiting for me." |

Phil would let her take the drink and got ready to go, leaving a ten on the table-that should cover the drink and a decent tip. He motioned outside, indicating that he'd be out there, and walked to his car, wondering what she meant by a lion. Most likely a cat. Duh. Phil started up his old piece of junk, recently restored after it's previous owners had an unfortunate accident resulting in the deaths of all three-Phil got it dirt cheap and restored it to it's former, probably never seen before glory. He'd wait outside with the window down, the rain having died down to just an overcast sky, as he waited for Leila. He'd have to follow her, since she'd probably brought her car as well. Well, the day went better than he expected, and certainly better than the weather would have led him to believe. And tomorrow...special people. I'll get right on that. |

After grabbing the drink, cleaning up, and heading out the door she stopped and pulled her phone out. Leila saw him sitting in his car with the window rolled down and she waved to let him know she was ready. Looking down at her phone she sighed. Calling her parents for a ride would be awkward, not to mention the zillions of questions they'd ask about Phil. Mom would hint that he should take her out on a date and Dad would ask what his plans for the future were and what was his financial standing was. I didn't think about this.. Leila casually walked over to his car and leaned over and spoke through the open window. She smiled and laughed nervously. "This is a bit awkward but do you mind if I catch a ride? My parents...they can't pick me up today. Mom's got a doctor's appointment." Please, oh please buy that. I hope he doesn't think I'm a weirdo and make up some lame excuse like that one guy last month. Jerk. |

Phil smiled and unlocked the passenger side door, gesturing Leila to get in. As soon as she was in, the two would be off, the radio turned down, but very obviously Jimmy Eat World. It happened to be one of Phil's favorites. "So, tell me about yourself." Phil would relax and listen to Leila as she spoke, giving directions and maybe talking about herself as well. |

Where to start with that question? Don't be too weird about it. "Well, I've lived here my whole life. Just recently moved out of my parents house." She held her jacket close to her feeling a little awkward in a stranger's car. All she knew was his name. She glanced out the window and patting her hands softly on her lap in beat with the music. What about you? All your life too? |

"Yea, for the most part. My parents say we took a trip once, but I can't remember it. I grew up around here. Recently moved though, we used to be in a kinda bad part of town. Well, my parents and brother still are, but I got out. My brother's planning on getting out as soon as he gets out of high school." Phil kept driving, turning when he was supposed to, following the laws like a good little boy. He pointed briefly at the glove compartment. "There are more CDs in there, if you find anything else you wanna listen to." Please have good tastes...please have good tastes... "K, twenty questions time. Favorite color." Phil looked over at Leila, giving an expectant look that showed that he was completely serious about the seemingly pointless question. He needed SOME way to break the ice, at least. |

"Glad you got out of there when you could. Not from your parents, but the bad side, y'know? I mean you wouldn't want to be away from your parents. Or maybe you would. So uh..." Leila didn't know really what to say and she happened to trail off not really ending her train of thought. She couldn't help but be a bit awkward so she opened the glove compartment, but quickly shut it recognizing the apartment complex. "Ah! Just pull up into here and it's the 3rd building." Alright this should be in and out quick. I didn't get a chance to pick up and today was laundry day. My luck. As he pulled up, she'd get her keys out, climb up the stairs and unlock the door to a loud, expectant kitty waiting for her at the door. |

Phil got out of the car with Leila and followed behind her up to her apartment. When they arrived, they were greeted by a loud cat. Must be the lion. Phil bent down to scratch the cat's back, assuming it wouldn't attack him or anything of the sort. "So, how much is your rent here? Working at that diner covers it?" Phil would remain at the threshold of the door, at least until Leila invited him in. He was having a decent enough time with the cat. "He's cute, though admittedly, I'm more of a dog person. What's his name?" |

As Leila walked in she noticed things weren't as she had hoped and hurried to toss the dirty laundry into her room. She heard his questions and returned into the living room/kitchen area. "It's fairly cheap, about 400 a month. It's extra with the cat. I actually make decent money at the diner, though the business today might say otherwise." She waved her hand beckoning him inside after she picked up a bit. Walking towards the kitchen she grabbed the bag of Friskies from the pantry and poured a bowl into the empty dish. The sound and smell sent the cat running from the doorway to the kitchen with his head burried in the bowl. The charm on his neck jingled as he hurried over. "Dogs? I would have taken mine from home but she keeps my parents happy and active. His name is Rosco, or Ros for short. What with his personality I should've called him Bastet. It's the Egyptian God of Cats, or something like that." Leila chuckled at her own statement and leaned up against the counter. She sighed and remembered she was still in her work uniform. "Would you like something to drink or eat? Make yourself at home, I need to shower and change. Sorry, I hope this doesn't put a damper on our little adventure?" Little adventure? What are we? 12? Geez. |

Phil wandered over to the nearest piece of furniture and sat down. "Are you kidding? We have lions, Egyptian Gods, torrential downpours...this is turning out to be an action movie quality adventure." Phil reached for the remote and turned on the tv-it had been a while since he'd actually watched anything. His apartment was mostly bare, and tv was one of the sacrifices Phil had to make when he moved in. His job wasn't high paying enough to afford much luxuries. He wasn't particularly hungry or thirsty, and sat there while Leila went about her business. He found an old episode of Supernatural on-he loved that show, primarily because the main characters happened to share both his last name and his car. It was like it was made for him. As he watched, he started to contemplate the day so far. She likes dogs. We're off to a good start. She's self-sufficient, independent, doesn't appear to have glaring family issues...seems pretty sane so far. |

Leila giggled at his reply and got a little embarrassed even if his statement was true. She was glad that she hadn't scared him off. He was becoming quite entertaining and she hoped they could hang out in the future. Her list of friends was dwindling what with her working all the time and not going to school anymore. She wandered off to her bedroom and undressed. She hopped in the shower with the water running almost uncomfortably hot- just the way she liked it. Leila put a CD in to make the awkwardness not so apparent. Rosco tilted his head as he sat on the floor peering up at this stranger who had made himself at home. Who did he think he was? Disgruntled Rosco gracefully hopped onto the sofa and where the head of the stranger was, he perched himself there tossing his tail into his face. That ought to show him.
