OOC: Closed to Me, Zau and Aleena

IC: The rendezvous point was an adandoned theater, one where James had worked tech a few years ago before it closed as a result of a poor economy. He had recently taken it over as his base of operations, though he hadn't done anything to upgrade it yet. For now, it was just an empty theater.

There was a meeting room on the second floor. That was where James would wait for his new allies so he could discuss with them what had happened the day before. Hopefully, Ben would feel up to explaining what he had learned during his ordeal.

Alairis was a bit startled when her phone started telling her where to go. Or rather that it seemed Lantern had her phone tell her where to go. ‘Weird’. She made her way towards the coordinates and found a theatre.

If she hadn’t made a mental sweep of the place first, and found him, she might have kept going. Guess that was sorta the point.

Winding her way around the theatre, she managed to find her way to the second floor. “Hello?” She said as soon as she’d come across anybody.

OOC: Ben=Green, Matt=Gold, Phil=bold, projected thoughts= <text>

IC: Phil and Ben both came in through the backdoor, with Phil using his telekinesis to unlock the door himself. Matt was with them as well-the whole crew had shown up. Matt had parked his car a few blocks down, and the trio walked, with Ben and Phil both turning up their hoods to avoid any kind of notice-they couldn't afford to be seen by the wrong people, since they were both apparently wanted by...someone.

The weather outside was overcast, and slightly misty-that worked out, since it gave Ben and Phil perfectly legitimate reasons to be covered up.

As the trio walked towards the stage, where Phil led them while relying upon his empathy and telepathy, Ben lowered his hood and looked around-this was a fairly nice place.

"Alright. So what are we doin here? I assume this is about what happened a few days ago, right? I already told Phil everything-they asked me about telepaths. Other than that, I don't remember anything."

Matt drew his weapons and hung out by the door-it was doubtful that anyone would sneak up on them, but if they did, Matt could at least try to get a lucky shot or two in.

"Alright. We're here. What's our plan of action?"

So... they might be looking for supers. Or they might just be looking for Phil James said. The room, for the record, was adorned with a meeting table and several chairs, as well as a few beat up couches around the perimeter. James was seated on the couch with his blackberry opened. browsing the internet through a proxy sever on the phone.

They obviously had reasons to know that Ben knew a telepath- he had been on the scene during Phil's first act of heroism, and had been easy enough to spot leaving the scene with "Zaulyl". If Iron Lantern could figure it out, a more heavily funded organization could, as well.

But that leaves other questions- are they private? Or government sanctioned? Why are they looking for supers? He had his blackberry try finding information about the warehouse they had raided, but there was no owner registered. That didn't help.

"It means something else too. Their sources are either shitty or really awesome, since back when we were still running around like idiots, I wasn't a telepath.

So, either they were able to figure out my powers after the fact, or they were misinformed from the start.
"

Ben nodded-his memory of that place was horrible at best-but he was pretty sure they said telepath, not telekinetic. Or maybe it was that telepathy was common enough that they could have elicited a reaction from him just by mentioning that one power. Who knew?

"Well, until we get this sorted out, none of us are safe. I've been seen with these two tons of times. Guess we're going to be living in the warehouse for a while."

Phil sat down in the nearest chair and looked back at Matt. "Even that might not be good enough. What if they know about that place?"

Alairis sat down in a chair as she let the others talk for a bit. “Well, they do know there are telepaths if it’s the government. I kinda exposed my powers to the police, after fighting another one. He was controlling a bone manipulator, and had killed a lot of people at a school. It was on the news not too long ago.”

“It could be that their looking for telepaths in general? Or perhaps just supers. Its hard to know.” That’s really the only thing she could think of. “And yes, ya’ll weren’t that subtle back at that Home Depot.” She said. Glancing at them all. Wondering if at least lantern could figure out she’d been the one there he had to ‘save’.

That was you, then? James asked her It is... difficult to be subtle when there is a gun toting maniac running around a hardware store. But that's beside the point. There have been rumors and occasional sightings of Supers for a year or so now. It isn't unreasonable to think someone would respond- in either the positive or the negative.

His phone still yielded no matches for any groups developing in response to the emergence of supers. What we know is that the definitely employ supers- there was a duplicator present, and they must have had a technopath handy to defend that system against me. I've fought another technopath recently. Could be him.

He used his technopathy to inser the RED MAN's image into a search, and yielded a news result. The RED MAN was dead... Could it be related? Never mind. It seems that the technopath in question died while under the care of a mental health institution. The body disappeared, though.

"The body?"

Ben and Matt exchanged worried glances-if supers bodies were vanishing, that meant something was making bodies...then again, one body was just a body. Two bodies was a coincidence. Three was a trend.

"Are there any other reports of deaths, but with no bodies? If there are dead people and no bodies, they all might be connected. Might be supers..."

Phil sat back in the chair, holding his head-all this talk of dying supers was giving him a headache. He could handle himself. No I can't...without Ali, me and Lantern could have died today. That freak in the suit...

"Something else. That guy in the suit-he had weapons we couldn't stop. He could block us...but he didn't do anything other than shoot. I don't think he was a special. So what the hell kind of people are after us? They've got weapons specifically designed to take us down, and training designed to keep us out of their heads.

AND they're working with other specials...if they have that much preparation for us, that must mean they've been doing this a while. I didn't know there were enough of us for an organization to be able to develop universally untouchable weapons.

“Yes.” She answered him. “And true.” She pondered a moment. Considering how many supers she’s heard about or seen for herself. There was quite a growing number of them.

She raised her right eyebrow as they mentioned missing bodies. “Bodies? What the heck would somebody want with bodies?” Alairis wondered. She thought about it a bit more. “Other than DNA, I can’t really think of much use for them. I would think that most powers would vanish with the death of a super.”

Her DNA was a possible carrier as well. “I know I have super genes in my family. Since my grandmother was apparently gifted a bit too. “

“Well, if you think about it. Technically Supers have been around for a long time. Granted they were probably just thought of as myths, or gods, or comic book heroes. It wouldn’t be that farfetched to think that the stories have some shred of truth in them.” If that was the case, it was possible someone had been working against those gifted for a lot longer than a year.

Alairis shrugged. “I’m just throwing ideas out. I really don’t know much more than you. I didn’t care much about others before recently.”

It wouldn't be possible to distinguish who disappeared that was super and that was not, unless we knew in advance what to look for Lantern said, Do you have any idea how many people go missing in this city alone every day? We have no way of establishing a trend with the data we have.

Ali had a valid point. Who was to say that the characters from myth and folklore, like Hercules and Paul Bunyan, for instance, weren't supers in their own right? Maybe Rasputin was a regenerator? The possibilities were endless. It was not unrealistic to think there had been a society of supers for some time.

Or that their bodies could be used in experiments to grant abilities, or learn how to take them away. Or... how to combat them. We need to learn more about them he would finally conclude, But I haven't the feintest idea how we should approach that one.

"We probably won't HAVE to hunt them down. They knew who Ben was, probably know who Phil is...and at least 20 guards, from what Phil says, were witness to four people tearing down the ceiling and flying out. You weren't exactly subtle in the face of those guards. Hell, even the ones who didn't see you escape were still alive-every one of em has valuable info, not to mention that agent you fought and the other super...lots of people know to look for at least one of your identities.

So, it's very possible that if we sit tight, they'll come to us.
"

Phil...well, he didn't like that idea. Neither did Ben, for that matter. On that same token though, they had nothing else to go on. Or did they?

"People don't work for free. somebody was paying those guards' paychecks. There's probably a record of who was guarding that warehouse SOMEWHERE online. If we can find just one of them, we can find out who he was working for-even if it turns out to be a front company, we still at least have a lead. There are records of EVERYTHING online-they can't keep everything hidden."

Ben nodded in agreement-having a technopath made things simpler, to be sure. "Even if we can't necessarily track a paycheck back to the payer, we can track a few of those guards. We have 5 people with no life other than this right here, 3 of which have an extra advantage...eventually, one of them is gonna slip up.

Hell, we might not even have to try that hard. Our telepaths might be able to just find info like their payers right in their heads. A good ole interrogation would work great.

Aliaris remained quiet in thought while the others jabbered for a bit. All of them had decent ideas. Something needed to be done before they figured out how to even nullify her healing abilities. Someone was out to hurt or kill them.

“I did scan some of the guards while I was there. They don’t know what it is their protecting. Their just hired hands to hold guns.”

It was possible they could work their way through the records, but that was going to take a long time. “The best option, if we can… is to get a hold of that blue bastard. Bomb Squad. That’s what he calls himself. I’ve fought him before and he doesn’t have any protections on his mind.” She glanced at Phil. “Him we can probably get a lot of information out of, but it won’t be easy to catch him.”

We run into a problem there, though: We need to catch the original to get any information, and he seems smart enough to act mostly through his duplicates James retorted. And we need the identity of one of our gunmen to find records of a paycheck. For all we know, they are paid under the table. We should have grabbed someone on out way out.

The internet still proved useless as he searched. He tried looking for images or a record of the agent whom had used the super bullets, but found nothing. Nothing promising for the address, either, aside from the previous owner. That was probably irrelevant, though.

So, the only thing we have to use to find them is ourselves. I don't feel like being bait, do you? he asked, thinking over their options. The only person they have a confirmed identity for is Ben. So maybe we should look to see if someone is watching his house?

"That's a decent idea. It's the most dangerous place to go right now-they'll never expect it!"

Phil frowned-putting themselves right back in harm's way, especially when they knew that the enemy had weapons and training specifically designed to take them down, just didn't seem like the best idea in the world. Still though, it was pretty much all they had.

"So, Ben's house then? And what, kidnap a potential watcher and interrogate him until we find what we want?"

She noded. Figuring out which was the original, and then trying to catch him, already sounded hard. “I could sense the original. The fakes had different thought patterns.” She glanced at Phil. “Did you sense how fragmented they were?” She asked.

Them acting like bait. It really didn’t sound like a great idea, but its really the only one they had. “It might work. But we have to be careful. They can kill us too easy if we don’t be cautious.”

“Hey wait…” She wondered looking back at Lantern. “You tracked the car to that place with a camera. Could you potentially track down a person? Like lock onto their face and search them from there? Facial reconition like in the movies?” She wasn’t sure if it would work, but she rather not throw themselves in harm’s way so quickly again. “If we can identify someone, perhaps we can kidnap them when their alone?”

I could, but we would need a recognizable face first. The guy with the super bullets is the only one i got a good look at, and he's not showing up. If he's moving about, he is doing a good job of concealing his face. Lantern would say.

If we move in on Ben's house, we'll need to play it safe. I can make a decor version of my armor to draw them in, so we won't be walking into the line of fire. We can watch for them all to move in on the house, and then we can follow someone when they change shifts or something. James thought that might be the safest plan they could have. Maybe he could even booby trap his remote-controlled armor to incapacitate the agents moving in on the house.

"Uhh...with all due respect, Mr. Lantern, couldn't you guys just...yano...grab someone right from the house once you figure out that he's watching the house? Which shouldn't be tough, since we have not one, but two telepaths...and then we have a telekinetic, we have a healer, we have a force-field maker, we have a techie...unless that super-agent shows up again, there's no real way they can stop you."

Phil didn't move, but silently agreed-this quiet stalking stuff was NOT his preferred method. As far as he was concerned, they had made a strike against him-they needed to get this unpleasantness sorted out as soon as humanly possible.

"That's pretty reckless though...and then, if that agent IS there...nothing can happen except a backfire."

Another solid point, though...well...Phil didn't like admitting he was wrong, or even somewhat flawed in his way of thinking. But, like Matt said, with the three specials they had, they could essentially do anything, as long as they only dealt with normal people.

"Whatever we do, it has to happen smoothly. Going in without a plan doesn't work well. I kinda proved that back at the rescue. Oh...right, I don't think I ever properly apologized for that. Sorry bout jumping the gun there."

Well it was just an idea, so she wasn’t that upset when it got shot down. Ali shrugged and listened to what everyone else was saying. All solid points really. “Lets just hope its one person too… and not an army like they had back there.” She agreed.

Her annoyance from the whole ‘barging in, guns blazing, tactic’ rose again as she glared a bit at Phil. She still hadn’t forgiven him for that one. Granted it might have happened without his charging in, still she felt he had been especially dumb on that one. Thus she shoved the mental image of her smacking him upside the head right into his and everyone else’s heads.

James grimaced as he watched the image of Ali smacking Phil, but continued on with their plan. After the display of strength we put on, we have to assume they will have a specialized SWAT team on stand by for us. This is going to be easily twice as dangerous as that warehouse was.

But, they still had their advantages, namely the element of surprise and their abilities. So are agreed on the plan then? I might be able to even access some of their mobile devices once we're closer, and track them, or maybe look through their contact lists and recent calls. I just need to get in range of the right person.

If all was well, James would summon the scrap metal he would need from downstairs. The tech closet had long since been emptied and replaced with spare parts for him to replace broken parts of his armor. There was probably enough down there to build a convincing knock off.

Phil donned his disguise and became Impulse, making a point to ignore Ali's mental image/threat/desire. Once he figured out that trick, he'd have a few things to show her too...anyways, it was game time.

Ben and Matt would stay behind-this was probably the safest place in all of VC, at the moment, anyways. Impulse and the other specials were really all that were vital here-all Ben and Matt could do was shoot, and they didn't need deaths right now.

Impulse reassured the pair that they wouldn't take too long, and then left discreetly out the backdoor, to fly to whatever location had been picked out already.
