Thalia was out for a good time. She was sick of the ratty stage she was forced to call home these days. She loved her little adopted family, most of the time anyway, but the stage was just too depressing. Every time she looked at it she would brood. Her memories drifting to happier, brighter times. Times she hadn’t been an orphan.

Yet no matter what happened, she could still feel that call of the stage. The call to perform. Only she knew that she could do better than a third rate, slime pit. The stage she now was force to cross dwelled in a poker bar. It stunk of boos, smoke, and unwashed bodies. Those men who came. She hated them more. Always trying to make advances on her. Scum that they were. They didn’t appreciate her, or her craft. They just wanted her to whore.

She pushed those vile thoughts from her mind as she realized she was scowling and grinding her teeth. That certainly explained the odd looks she got from passerby’s. With a breath and skill, she complexly wiped the feeling from her face. Showing only a bright, cheerful smile. After all, she was about to do one of her favorite things in the world. Shopping.

Shopping on somebody else’s dime that was. She’d swiped a few credit cards and checkbooks over the last month. From forgotten purses, or some of those very slime that tried to seduce her. See normal thieves had to make all these ID’s or go to all the trouble of counterfeiting. She didn’t. She could latterly be anybody she wanted to be. Male, female it didn’t matter. And with her other little handy powers, any old driver’s license or checkbook would miraculously have any name or picture she chose. Even if it was only for the few seconds that the cashiers glanced at it.

Today she was sporting dark red curls that draped down her shoulders a back. Her eyes were the same green color as she was born with. Her face though, was a mixture of the best features of models out of a magazine she picked up. Lightly freckled and accented beautifully with make –up. She was gorgeous.

Thalia had kept her body the same. After all, she intended to try on clothes.

Now for the first victims of the day. A rather pricy clothing shop. She slid her fingers over the little credit card in her hand. Joseph Daltmore was about to get a wife. Grinning she stepped into the store.

Walking into the shop she immediately drew attention. Not only because of her looks, but also because she just ‘radiated’ money. Moneyed people always had this ‘air’ about them. A confidence in how they moved and spoke. Now there were all sorts of levels of moneyed, today she was going with the more than well off version. They had a more casual glide to their steps than the super stuck up, ‘anyone else is beneath them’ flair of the sickingly rich.

She moved with the ‘I’m better off than you are, but I won’t flaunt it… much’. She smiled but only paid partial attention to the saleswoman that approach you. “How may I help you today, Ms.?”

“Mrs. Daltmore.” She corrected the woman casually with a bright smile. “Today I’m looking for some summer dresses. Something that’ll look good on a Maui beach.”

Now Thalia would never see that beach, but Mrs. Daltmore just might. At least that’s what the saleswoman thought as her eyes lit up with a flash of envy. She ushered Thalia towards the clothing racks. Picking out plenty of dresses. Some were far to unflattering, which a more snooty woman might chose because of their price tags. Their all greedy. Trying to push this off on me. Greedy enough that Thalia wouldn’t feel at all horrible about taking from them.

She tried on who knew how many dresses. At least 30, and a nice round number of 10 pairs of shoes to add. She’d dawn the garments, select from the assortment of shoes and accessories from the collection she now had in the changing booth, the she would prance herself in front of the mirrors. Some of the items were flat out refused after trial. Some were in the ‘thinking’ pile, and a few others were carefully handed over to wait for her at the cash registries.

Thalia tried everything from pretty little yellow cotton dresses and a floppy hat, to blue frilled party dress that would fit in a luau, to even a black evening summer dress for a classier get-together. In the end she settled for nine dresses and two pairs of shoes. A good, unsuspicious number. Of course her ‘husband’ was certainly going to feel their pricetags.

The cashier was certainly giddy with all the sales they were making. Not even bothering to ask for ID. Thalia sighed her name to the “Mr. & Mrs. Daltmore” Credit card. Only tweaking the cards name slightly, as well as the readout as they looked them over. “Have a wonderful day Mrs. Daltmore.” They smiled brightly at her as she left with her colored shopping bags. Indeed, she was having a wonderful day.

After hitting two more stores, it was time for lunch. Dropping her packages off in her little layer at home, she returned to the shopping strip. The location of choice was a small café, slightly off the regular paths. However this place had something that beat almost every other place in the city. Icecream. Real, handmade, delicious icecream. Every spoon full was overflowing with chilled flavor. Thalia just could never get enough of the stuff. They had so many wonderful choices. From cookies n’cream, to chocolate, to all the sherberts. It was truly a delightful place.

Thalia scooped up another spoonful of her favorite, cookies n’ cream. Ploping the spoon daintily in her mouth and drawig a clean spoon out. She shivered slightly, both from the cold and from the great taste. “So good”. She grined and flipped another page over in her book. Newly bought, of course. Percy Jackson; The Lightning Thief. Fitting, she thought. It was also proving to be quite entertaining. She giggled here and there as she read. Taking a spoonful of icecream each time she turned a page.
