Phil released the clay from his hands and let it float there, and focused on it-he didn't expect much difficulty, since, after all, it was just clay. The mushy stuff would seem to wiggle a bit before coming together quickly and forming into a perfect...egg? What the hell?

The clay would flatten out and Phil would return his focus to it again, this time being sure to make it entirely round. Think of oranges, the planet, eyes...umm...other...round things...and, sure enough, he'd fail once more, though now it looked more like an oval.

"K, so you MIGHT have a point about this whole "precision" thing. But why would I need precision to fly? I should be able to just move myself, which would be heavy lifting. Pretty much. Right?" Sta incitandolo a fare questo, così ovviamente lei pensa che debba farlo questo senso. (Tr: She's making me do this, so obviously she thinks I have to do it this way.)

He'd continue standing there, making the clay morph into several interesting shapes, but none of which were the one he wanted. A circle shouldn't be so damn hard!

Alairis snickered on the look on his face when he produced an egg shape. “Harder than you thought, eh?”

She watched him as he attempted again. A little closer, but still not perfect. She crossed her arms and made a little block of light to sit on. “You are mostly correct. There is heavy lifting involved. This connected more to concentration as well as navigation. Cause I’m assuming you’ll be handling more things than just throwing yourself in the air, hero.” He needed to learn how to multi task. It was a necessity for power wielding against an enemy. That she’d learned the hard way.

“Now on the Navigation, sure you can just hurl yourself up there. But you need to learn how to navigate around. Else you’ll be bashing into buildings, light poles, signs, and whatever else. This’ll make it a smoother ride for you or whatever else your moving around. Also make it easier to avoid attacks. Eventually it’ll become second nature, so you won’t have to think about it. But practice is key.”

She frowned a bit when he started babbling in his head. Is that.. Spanish or something? She wondered as she vaguely reconciled the words, but not enough to understand them. Ignoring his babble, she created a block of light to prove her point. Her fingers worked as it jerked around the air, like she was simply throwing it around. It didn’t look all that comfortable to ride. “Control equals smoothness. Flying can take constant minor adjustments.”

Phil was listening the whole time, but was a bit more intent on shaping the clay into the sphere he desperately wanted to see. The clay began to flatten...but then he pushed it back into an egg. Yes, being able to make the circle from scratch was probably a step he'd have to take, but being able to make the circle at all was a bit more important.

The "top" of the egg would begin to bevel out, becoming rounder, flatter, and more spherical with each passing second. Phil brought up memories of rage, hoping that the powerful emotion would make this a bit easier-he'd be disappointed. All of his precision vanished, and the sphere flattened itself. Troppo potere. Se le emozioni potenti lo rendono più difficile usare la precisione, quindi forse una mancanza di emozione la renderebbe più facile. (Tr: Too much power. If powerful emotions make it more difficult to use precision, then maybe a lack of emotion would make it easier.)

Phil took a few deep breaths, making an effort to put the rage out of his head-it wasn't easy. Once he got stuck on an emotion, it was damn near impossible to get out of it's grasp. Even so, he used the breathing techniques he'd seen online for getting calm-for him, it was a tiny bit different, but it still worked well enough.

Once he was calmed again (relatively), he formed the egg again, being certain to control his breathing as he was beveling the top out again. Soon enough, the clay was spherical...sorta. There were bumps all over it, and it took a while, but it was a sphere.

"There-there's your ball."

Alairis watched him with a sort of smug feeling. It was always thrilling telling people what to do. Taking out another piece of clay she let her hands keep themselves busy. She never did real well with just sitting still. She just HAD to be doing something, even if it was just twiddling her thumbs.

“Good, good.” She smiled and then grinned with a hint of mischievousness. “Now do it again, faster, and make three of them.”

She was pretty sure he was going to hate her by the end of the day. So be it. If it helped keep him alive and not trying to commit suicide via training, it was worth it.

“And make sure it’s perfect. Spheres don’t have bumps. Their smooth.”

Phil immediately set to work, rounding out some sphere-like shapes...though, it wouldn't quite be right to call them spheres. One was egg-like again, another was an oval, and the third was perfectly round on one side, but rough and bumpy on the other. He frowned and laid the clay out flat again, combining it all into one massive clump once more as he did so.

The new mass of clay would roll itself into a ball, and Phil would stay focused on it in time to see it NOT turn into a perfectly smooth ball. In fact, it was quite unsmoothed. Che cosa? Forse se mi applico appena più pressione…che be sta truffando? (Tr: What the hell? Maybe if I just apply more pressure...would that be cheating?)

Phil applied outward pressure to the sphere in every direction-the results were obvious. The sphere collapsed inward, compressing itself down, and as Phil alternated the pressure and direction of every spot on the sphere, it became considerably smoother. One could even say it would function as a ball.

"1 test down. Here we go."

His second test, of course, was doing it quickly, which really shouldn't have been a huge problem. He simply flattened the clay out again, taking care to let it expand as far as it could. Then, he applied pressure to all sides at once, forcing the ball to fold in on itself. He wasn't too good at base precision, but this worked. And it even had it's merits as far as precision went-he had to make sure to apply the same amount of force evenly over the entire form to ensure it remained spherical. Same amount of force evenly...maybe the same could be said for flight?

When the sphere was perfectly round (and greatly condensed, thanks to Phil's impromptu methods), Phil's focus would switch, but only slightly. Now, in addition to an equal application of force around the outside, Phil also had a force on the inside of the sphere pushing outward with the same equal application as the force pushing in-but much stronger. The clay orb would expand, eventually becoming a hollow shell, perfectly spherical, and about a foot in circumference.

"Test 2. Next up, three at once."

The clay orb would break apart and wiggle down into three separate but equal clumps of gray goo. Phil took a deep breath, now extending both of his palms in the directions of the various clumps. Equal force.

The three clumps would start compressing in on themselves, shrinking down to about the size of a golf ball each. This went by a bit slower than the larger one had-Phil had to focus on more than one sphere this time, so it was a fair bit different. Now, not only was he applying equal force all over a round surface-he was doing it three times. Size meant nothing, this was all about the sheer amount of work he was doing. Size means nothing...no, weight means nothing. Mass matters a little...but it's surface area that's most crucial.

With all three balls roughly the size of golf balls, Phil would employ his widening method again-to disastrous results. The three outward forces pushing against the three inward forces proved to be too much for Phil. Blood welled up in his left eye and the boy collapsed, a rivulet of blood running down his cheek.

The clay balls all exploded, and there was now clay everywhere. Luckily, it had been soft, gooey stuff he was messing with-were these rocks, that result would have been devastating to anyone nearby.

Phil laid there, breathing heavily-this had only happened twice before today, once when he first met Ali, and again when he, Ben, and Matt were fixing up the warehouse. A heavy thing had started to fall, and Phil tried to catch it. At least my limits are clear...I guess...ow.

She was watching intently as he worked. She had to give him credit, he was really trying and really he was succeeding too. Mostly, anyway. With that much determination it won’t be long before he’ll manage to fly.

Suddenly something caught her attention. Blood welling around the boy’s eye. She jumped off her seat and started to move towards him when the clay exploded. She got splattered with clay bits. She could already feel it gunkifying her hair. “Oh ew.” She muttered as she reached to pick a piece out of her hair. Not that it helped too much.

Jogging over to Phil, she knelt by his side. Her hands reaching to either side of his head and began to glow. She nodded and sight a bit to his thought. A smile on her face. “For now they are anyway. Powers grow as you mature.” In a matter of moments she stopped the blood flow and likely eliminated any headache he had.

As Ali healed him, his headache predictably went away, and the blood quit flowing. Phil rolled over onto his stomach and sent a quick burst away from his face, launching whatever blood was there onto the ground below him.

He climbed to his feet, shakily at first, and then a bit more confident in his stance. "I can't afford to wait to get "more mature". I need to be as strong as I can be right now. Too dangerous to go in with any less than perfect." Phil's hands rose slowly from his waist to hover at just about shoulder level-with it came all of the clay that had been scattered. He didn't question how he managed to find all of the clay so quickly, in fact, the thought didn't even register-he simply wanted the clay, and there it was.

All of the clay, even the clay in Ali's hair, would detach from whatever it had gotten stuck on and would shoot together to form those same three clumps. Once again, the balls would be condensed, though this time, it would happen considerably quicker. Don't do both. Like driving...gas, then brake, not both together.

When the balls finished condensing, Phil would start working on the inner force, pushing the balls into roughly softball-sized orbs. They weren't as smooth as the first, larger one, but they could still function as balls well enough.

The three balls hovered in midair for a few moments, but would then start to rotate around Phil, as if they were orbiting them. His eyes closed and his hands lowered as he focused on the spheres, and they would slowly get smoother, until each one was a nearly perfect orb, each in rotation around him. How's that?

He had a point. Perfection could mean surviving or not. Climbing back to her feet she watched him do the same, though much more shaky. Crossing her arms she grinned at him. “Then get back to work.”

She blinked in slight surprise when all the clay zoomed back to his hand. “Nifty.” Taking out the clay she’d been messing with, she tossed it at him. “Take this too.”

Waltzing back to her seat she dropped down and crossed her legs. He immediately started back up. Pushing himself a little farther than he’d managed before. Alairis clapped quietly and grinned as three perfect spheres orbed around him. “Excellent.”

“Now squares and rectangles. They’ll be harder since you’ll need all sides perfectly flat. Then when you get those, pyramids.”

Phil took hold of Ali's clay and mixed it in with his own. He was starting back at square one. Pun intended.

The clay folded in on itself, becoming a blob of gray ugliness until Phil returned his focus to it. This was different from the last time-he'd have to divide his focus evenly, but not all towards the center. Just one cube would require 6 different forces pushing in, not the standard 1 single force pushing in. One cube alone would be pushing it.

Even so, Phil stood there, one hand extended out towards the cube, and started shoving the cube into shape. However, he was actually being intelligent about this-there were 6 sides to a cube. Phil would only push on two sides at a time, however. After each opposite side was crushed inward, he'd move on to a separate pair, eventually ending in a near perfect cube.

The cube would then stretch, taking on the form of a rectangular prism. Easy enough.

The clay would once again melt in on itself, this time separating into three different chunks. And, like before, Phil would methodically push in two sides of the cubes at a time, and then would move onto the next pair. Avoiding that six force limit was a good strategy for him-mostly because it didn't end with him passed out on the ground.

Again, the cubes would stretch, forming rectangles in the air. They were rough though-not perfectly smooth like he wanted. I could take time trying to smooth them out...or I could do this.

"This" referred to Phil making a quick, sharp motion with his arms-which would result in excess clay literally being sliced off the sides of the boxes. The extra clay would float in the air before forming a fourth cube.

Probably can't use that as a weapon. This is just clay-it'd take a bit to cut through an actual person. Oh well, maybe later.

The clay would converge once more, preparing to form the final shape-pyramids. Phil didn't have to worry about as many sides as before-only 4 sides to think about. The obstacle was getting the shape right. Each side would have to be pushed in a strange way...it wasn't likely to be easy.

He would start with the base. That was an easy enough job-one flat surface was quite simple. The triangles he'd soon have to shape would be difficult, however. Phil focused harder on the clay, using his egg-shaping skills to make the top roughly pointed. With a flat bottom and a round, pointy top, the clay could almost look like a mountain or something like that.

Phil then applied 3 separate forces-one for each triangle-at an angle towards the center. It wasn't as tough as he imagined. Shapes seemed to be coming considerably easier to him now. Of course, I'm not done yet.

For what he hoped was the last time that day, the clay would merge together once more, and would form three separate clumps of clay. Phil was preparing for his usual force method...and then decided to try something else.

His arms would weave through the air, almost like a composer as he sliced the clay into the shapes he wanted. The left over clay would float into a ball, which would receive more cuts to be shaped into a pyramid. The leftovers from that would experience a similar event, with each new pyramid resulting in a smaller set.

Ha! If this isn't precision, I don't know what is!...I doubt this will help though...I...uh-oh.

The uh-oh was because Phil had apparently collapsed without realizing it. The strain on his head to perform those cuts, even through just clay, was intense. Too intense. That's a trick I can keep in the back of my head for now. Not fun.

The clay would reform again, and all four sides would compress, forming a perfect pyramid, before Phil even bothered picking himself up off the ground.

"Got anything else?"

Alairis watched him struggle and achieve with intense interest. The boy was most certainly determined. Then again, flying was well worth struggle. Soaring through the air with little or no limits was exhilarating.

When he started cutting clay from the shapes, she perked up a bit. That’s almost cheating, but he gets credit for thinking outside that box.

Then as he collapsed, she almost rushed over to him. Yet with the objects still floating in the air, she remained seated. Blood she would handle, and a little headache won’t kill him. She clapped and grinned at him. “Bravo.” She climbed up onto her light box. Extending it just enough to accommodate her crossed legs. “Yes I do, actually.”

Now came the hard part, and another reason why she had him perfect shapes. “Now I want you to solidify your powers into a box. Then ancor it in place so it won’t move. Think of it like creating a wall, a wall you’re going to stand on. Now I’m pretty sure this’ll work, since our powers are similar enough. But we won’t know until you try.” She shrugged a bit.

“I don’t want you hurling yourself at it. Just create a box, leaning on it a bit to test it. Then if it holds under that; nice and easily step onto it.”

It sounded simple enough, but she knew from many experiences it wasn’t. “And if you manage that, I’ll take you up.” Alairis pointed skyward and hopefully he would get the meaning.

Phil frowned at the latest request-he never pictured telekinesis as a solid entity before. In his mind, it was closer to wind, or gravity, or magnetism moreso than it was a solid force. Nevertheless, he'd try it. He held his hand out in front of him and on the ground and focused on making it solid. Whatever it was, at least.

The gravel at the spot started levitating as his ability started interacting with them. He had no idea how to go about making it solid though-he was only capable of lifting, pulling, and pushing so far. And moving. Or hitting. But there it was-everything he did was done to other things, with the exception of his Push move. He had never tried using his power on his power before.

Phil set his foot on the area in question. There was resistance, but it was more akin to a gas or liquid than it was to a solid force. He didn't bother pushing his foot through the rest of the way, and instead shook his head.

"I don't think I can do that...our powers are similar, but there's something inherently different about them. I doubt you noticed it back then...but remember when you made that chair out of light when you first found our warehouse? Well...I tried messing around with your chair, and nothing happened. So...yea, there's a difference. I can't do anything to fire or sparks either...I think it's because it's energy and not solid things I'm trying to mess around with."

Almost to make the point, Phil used his power to call gravel in the area together-it would roll towards a single spot and form a square, almost like a step. Phil packed the gravel together as tightly as he could, pushing in on it from all sides to keep it together. He'd then step on it, and his weight would be supported. Phil let go of his hold on the rocks and they all fell from their square and became a simple pile of rocks. So, unless I can lift a solid object underneath me, I won't be flying on top of anything any time soon.

Alairis shrugged when he proved that while similar, their powers were indeed different. “Worth a try at least.” Then she blinked and frowned at him. “You were trying to mess with my chair? You snot.” She grumbled a moment more then went right back to her good mood.

“Well, you’ve been working hard…” She grinned at him with a bit of a wild flair. “How about I show you a little of what you’re trying to achieve?”

She slipped on her mask and continued to smirk at him. Standing up on her block of light as it slowly, for dramatic effect, transformed into a skateboard shape.

With a flick of her wrist a similar one would appear at his feet. Glowing with dull blue light. “Let’s go for a ride, shall we?” And if he chose to do step onto the bored, it would form straps around his feet. Couldn’t have him falling off after all. It would also give him a bit of mobility on his own.

Phil stepped onto the lightboard, not sure what to expect. It was surprisingly solid-surely not what he envisioned. Then again, he had already witnessed Ali's solid constructs several times before, so it really wasn't a HUGE shock...just...different. And then, when the straps formed over his feet, Phil smiled. That's a neat trick.

He'd pull his superhero hoodie-mask thing out of his bag and slide in on with telekinesis. If they were gonna be flying around, Phil couldn't let his face be revealed. He'd wait for whatever Ali planned to do-it wasn't the flight he was envisioning, but at least he'd get to fly today.

Alairis was still grinning as she nodded to his thought. “Why thank you.” She pulled her hoody up over her hair. Her fingers flexing excitedly.

“Now hold on.” She said as that was the only warning he’d get before they were launched skywards like a rocket. She crouched low to her board as they zoomed fast. Her eyes zipping around just in time to weave their way around a flock of frightened birds. The air rush into their ears as she directed them higher and higher still. They rose above the city in a matter of seconds. Then they would slow to a stop and offer him one of the most spectacular views she thought there was of the entire city. They could see almost the whole of it. People were hardly visible at this height and buildings cars were the sizes of erasers. “This is Veritas.” She said in admiration. From this far up, it was beautiful. You didn’t see just pieces of the town like from streets or buildings even. Here was the all there was to see.

She laughed almost wickedly and smirked again. “And here’s what I live for.” ‘Move your feet and the board with move with you’. She instructed before she pushed her toes forward and dove. Once again the air rushed past her as she opened her arms as if embracing the wild winds. Shouting for joy as she wove her board of light about like a sky diver. Pitching side to side and even managing to pull off a loop or two before she leveled out.

It was unfair. Completely and totally unfair. Birds had all the fun.

Of course, the exhilaration rushing through him probably wasn't entirely his, or at least, it was his magnified by the weird way empathy and telepathy could go together. His own massive adrenaline rush, in addition to the excitement from Ali combined to make a rush the likes of which simply couldn't be explained.

As the two leveled out, and as Phil saw the city for the first time, a new emotion sprang up in him-awe. The city looked so different from so high up. By the time he could look back at Ali, she was already gone. Well...here I go.

Phil leaned forward, him and the board going forward into a spinning nose dive. Phil used his own telekinesis to spin himself faster, almost as if he were a corkscrew. Suddenly, he'd level out, sliding his lightboard horizontally across the sky before slowing to a stop and standing on it the way he had been earlier. There were sounds coming from his pocket-sounds he recognized as his police scanner, and it was talking about some kind of emergency involving...rats?

"Hey, Ali...duty calls."
