I want you back. "Taxi." A man in a lab coast said simply. He lifted his hand and flagged down a driver. The cab slowed to a halt at the sidewalk nearest the man. He entered the cab and shut the door firmly behind him. The taxi driver adjusted his mirror until it reflected the blue eyes of the white haired man. 'White hair?' The cab driver thought to himself. 'He doesn't look a day over forty.' The driver leaned back easily in his seat, "Where to, bub?" The man in the back thought for a moment before answering. "Oak Minister Avenue. 1749." It was uptown. Far away from the crime infested Downtown. No one could have possibly imagined what the man in the back seat could have been intending. Dr. Oscar Mike was a scientist for El Dorado R&D. They were looking for the proverbial pot of gold, as they liked to put it. Mike specifically worked for the weapon's department... He sometimes couldn't help but wonder if it was his fault that everything had gone wrong. 'Was it my fault she died?' He found himself asking again. 'There was no reason for her to get cancer... what if something I brought home... like an magnetic aura on my clothes...' He thought to himself about all of the possibilities... at the end of it all he found that there wasn't any valid solution to why she had gotten cancer. Oscar was trapped in a never ending cycle. While he was at work he was a normal person. He focused on his job and performed admirably. As soon as he left work, it became a different story. He found himself wallowing in grief. Wallowing and wallowing until he was literally suffocating on his own tears. That's when the break would happen. He would just snap... and suddenly start killing people again. When he could no longer take the pain of her death... he simply became... THE RED MAN. "Hey mac. We're here." The driver announced at last. Oscar Mike looked out the window at the peaceful park before him... Yes... That was where he had buried it last. He always buried it, just to dig it up again. "That'll be -" Oscar pulled out every last dollar in his wallet and handed it to the man. He opened the door and exited the cab. Money meant nothing to Oscar Mike. Nothing meant anything to him. If he couldn't have love... then he might as well be a dead man. The park was filled with parents and children as it always was. There was a swimming pool nearby, with two porta-potties standing in the parking lot. A little bit farther down was a trail that many cyclists and joggers would run on for exercise. Oscar made his way down this path until it met a bayou. He climbed down into the deep ditch and found suitcase right were he had left it. He hadn't buried it very deep... all it needed was for someone to kick the measly dirt pile to the side. He snapped it open and looked at the costume hidden inside. All of the blood stains... It had probably never been cleaned before. If anyone found it, they would have been able to link Oscar back to every crime he had ever committed. 'That isn't a very long list... yet.' Looking upon the bloodied costume Oscar simply willed himself to become the RED MAN, and so it was. He pulled off his labcoat, goggles, and glasses and stuffed them into the case as the costume sprang to life and consumed him. He felt himself hover in the air a moment before the transformation was complete. Dual hand guns fluttered into the RED MAN's hands. He smiled maliciously. There had been witnesses to the transformation... those who had hung around to see its ending were unfortunate. The RED MAN had the pleasure of shooting each of them. "Kikikikikikikiki ~ !!!!" He laughed insanely, caring very little that his hunting ground was not somewhere a super villain would normal prey on. |

The bullets changed course slightly in midair, arcing just enough away from their targets that they missed. Iron Lantern came to a slow landing not far away, having almost not seen the shooting from up above. That's enough of that The Lantern said, his armor synthesizing his true voice to disguise it. What a strange costume this guy had. Wait- i am running around in this thing and I judge HIS costume? Jimmy thought to himself, staring down the stranger with the gun. He'd make this quick. He focused on the gun, pulling on it magnetically. He was not aware that his opponent had similar powers, so had no way of knowing the futility of his plan. |

A saner villain might ask, 'who?' or possibly even 'why?'. The RED MAN was not happy that his intended targets didn't get bullets in their heads. That was all that he could think of at the moment, with or without the green menace barring his path. The RED MAN felt the tug on his weapons, but he easily matched the pull. If the green metalloid wanted them so badly, he could have them... one bullet... at a time. The RED MAN began to fire his hand guns at the Iron Lantern. A gleeful smile curled across his lips with each bullet that sprang out of the barrel of either one of the hand guns. This was typically known as insanity. To repeat an action over and over, but to expect different results. Somewhere inside there was a grieving man named Oscar Mike. He knew very well that firing bullets at someone who controlled the forces of magnetism was a flawed plan... but the RED MAN. Well, he just didn't care even if he did know. The RED MAN shot 1, 2, no three bullets now. Alternating between each gun. He didn't even care if his attacks landed. That was how reckless his attacks were. |

The bullets bounced harmlessly off of the lantern's armor as they were fired. It seemed he couldn't pull the gun free of the shooter's grasp. Telekinesis, maybe? Super Strength? Another Magnetism master? There was no way to tell from just that one thing. My turn he would say after the third bullet, raising his arm and firing a Homing Missile. It locked onto the villain, propelling itself forward at great speed. Blackberry- hack police database for any record of felons with descriptions matching this guy. Negative, Sir. the phone in his pocket under his armor responded. Was this the RED MAN's first appearance? |

Iron Lantern and the RED MAN might have been menaces to just about any other hero or villain, but to each other, who were so perfectly matched... Neither of their attacks could really do any harm to the other. The RED MAN cackled to himself as the missile sped towards him. The weapon would be completely disassembled through a combination of the RED MAN's abilities. He would take the propulsion system that the missile had, along with the warhead itself and quickly combined it with his flash grenade. The propulsion system fired up, rocketing itself into the sky! In a park like this it would probably come down and hurt someone, and unfortunately, that was fortunate! Considering the low density of people here! There really wasn't much more to the RED MAN than pointless violence and slaughtering of people. The RED MAN grew quickly bored with a person that couldn't be killed and decided that it was time to move on. He lept out of the bayou and made a 'B' line straight for the park. He blasted his hand guns at anything that moved. Be it human, or animal. |

Oh no you don't! Iron Lantern said as RED MAN dashed off. He flew behind the villain, magnetically curving the bullets away from bystanders. Of course, with his opponent's own magnetic abilities, he obviously needed to do this adjustment at the last second, or nothing would happen at all. In the mean time, he pointed his hand at RED MAN's back, firing a bolt of electricity. It wasn't particularly powerful, but it could maybe stun his target. |

The bolt of energy fired at the RED MAN knocked him over. The man tumbled for a moment before landing on his feet once more with a scorch mark on his metallic back plate. It had become apparent, even to the RED MAN, that letting the green metalloid go around mostly ignored was a problem. The psychopath stretched out his hands towards the local park and caused all of the playground equipment to uproot themselves and form together into a crude, but effective killing machine. The RED MAN twisted his lips as his fingers twitched out commands to the machine. It wrapped a swing around a pole and launched it at the Iron Lantern at a high velocity. 'Destroy...destroy...must kill! MUST KILL!!!' No blood had been spilled yet, and it only served to agitate the RED MAN more and more! His sanity slipped away further and further... It was an insane need to kill. He had to destroy something. Anything! It had to be destroyed! It all did! The only thing that kept getting in the way was the Iron Lantern... The Iron Lantern must be destroyed! Using his powers of magnetism, he converting the machine further into ball of spikes using a dome shaped jungle gym. The screws popped out of their sockets and allowed the metallic pipes to rearrange themselves until at last it stood complete. The RED MAN launched it into the air with his Magnetism and pushed it down as hard as he could toward the Iron Lantern; fully in hope that the velocity the ball would gain from force of gravity would be enough to break through the Iron Lantern's magnetic powers. Even if the Iron Lantern would try to stop the ball, that would at most only neutralize half the source of its movement. The other half was from gravity. Armored or not, a giant ball of death probably hurt. "I'll Kill you! KILL YOU!!!" He screamed to the Iron Lantern as he tightened his fingers into fists with effort at controlling the ball. |

Why didn't I think of that? Jimmy thought to himself as the playground equipment turned into a crude mech. That didn't bode well. And then the projectiles started coming. He flew straight up a dozen feet, avoiding the object that had been hurled at him. He knew that another bolt of electricity would be easily redirected, so there was no point in firing it off. Only one way to fight this guy. Iron Lantern's suit rammed at RED MAN at full speed. If the two couldn't do battle with their powers, the Lantern would beat his target into submission the old fashioned way. |

The RED MAN fell backwards under the force of the ram. He reached casually to his hip and drew out the Light sword he had. With a simple thumb flick he activated the weapon. A long beam sprouted from the blade's emitter. The RED MAN tried to wrap his arm around the Iron Lantern so he would have a solid grip. With his other hand he tried to stick the light sword into the Iron Lantern's side. "Destiny demands that we be enemies! I have a better idea! How about we be friends?!" exclaimed the RED MAN. |

How do I know that isn't just some ploy for you to make off and shoot some more people? Iron Lantern said, pushing away from RED MAN as he reached for his word, levitating a few feet above the ground and watching him carefully. If this truly was a ploy, he didn't want to be caught off guard. |

"Ploy!? Of course its not a ploy! I'm going to go and soak my hands in blood either way!" The RED MAN gnashed his teeth and began to wail at Iron Lantern as he wildly swung his beam saber at the man. "I never claimed I would do otherwise, and I never asked you to NOT to get in my way!" The insane and broken man began his insane laughter as he gleefully swung his beam saber at the Iron Lantern. The RED MAN tried to focus his powers of magnetism in such a way that the Iron Lantern and his armor would be drawn towards his weapon's attacks. |

Iron Lantern used hsi own magnetic powers to cancel those of his opponent, holding his armor steady. The two were indeed evenly matched in terms of magnetic might. This tug of war between the two of them was pointless. The lantern had an edge that RED MAN did not- Armor. At this close range, he would fire off another homing missile. At point blank, he hoped that RED MAN wouldn't be able to dismantle the device in time. The blast would knock them both back, but the Lantern would be protected by his armor, reducing any injuries he would incur. At the same time, he would use his repulsor gauntlet to make a small force field in the shape of a shield, which he then used to block the energy sword. This would hopefully keep RED MAN's Focus away from the bomb about to detonate between the two of them. |

Disarming a missile at point blank range can put a strain on anyone's abilities. The RED MAN could do little more than prevent the attack from being lethal. Releasing a magnetic field around his body the explosion blasted the villain backwards. Having his insanity quelled for the time being Oscar Mike regained his senses. Disoriented, he examined the area around him, and more importantly the garb he was in. 'What? What is this?!' He knew immediately that he needed to escape before the RED MAN's blood lust could be rekindled by the Iron Lantern... but... Actually... maybe it would have been better to let himself be taken in. 'No... My work is too important to give up. I must escape.' Oscar turned from the Iron Lantern and began to make a speedy escape on foot, eventually reaching the parking lot where he used his powers to start a car and have its door swing open before he even arrived at it. He hopped inside and pressed the peddle to the floor. The vehicle squealed as it burst down the street. |

The blast sent the Lantern propelling backwards, though his armor protected him from any serious damage. He surveyed the area from above, but couldn't see the RED MAN anywhere. they had gotten away, it seemed. No matter. The Lantern would remain vigilant in his watch over the city, ever determined to keep it safe from those whom would cause it harm. EXIT |
