Vance looked wryly at Tali as she stole a piece of his shrimp. She'd obviously lightened up and started to enjoy herself, which made him have a little more fun. But then she asked him how often he went on extravagant dates.

"Things like this, huh? Well... I don't know if it's exactly like this, but there's lots of girls that approach me, and I go out with some of them once or twice..."

Ugh... you aren't the same, though. I'm actually interested. Gah, too much playing around might kill my chances here.

"I'm not playing around with you. I really do want to get to know you. With them... it's more just for fun."

Vance quickly shoved a shrimp in his mouth, hoping his answer sufficed...

Tali chewed her steak slowly, taking her time to swallow. She could sense the integrity in his thoughts. There wasn't anybody else, or any underlying reasons for him to be interested. There were...other questions she wanted to ask, but she kept those to herself.

She gave a slight nod after taking a sip of her drink. She didn't think he expected anything more from her...but it still worried her. There was absolutely no experience in this field for her. This was the first time ever a man had taken interest. It scared her a little, threw her off-kilter.

There was still around half of the steak left on her plate, but she wasn't sure she could take another bite. It wasn't that she was full, or that she'd stuffed herself, she just..couldn't eat. Her hands slide back, her fingers lacing together nervously. Her gaze slid to the movie, giving her something to do. She wasn't exactly sure where to go from here...

Awkward moments. What was for Tali a blank on what to talk about translated for Vance into a misstep. So, he thought at this moment that he had turned her off. So, he felt the need to fill the air with conversation.

"It's a beautiful night tonight... and I'm really liking this movie... I'd hate to be in that guy's position."

Vance felt himself panicking slightly, as he feared losing what he'd hoped to work out. Why was he so invested in this girl? He met her yesterday. He didn't quite understand, but he wasn't about to question it.

Tali looked back at Vance as he spoke, a small smile playing its way across her lips. She was sure this man had never had to deal with someone not wanting him. And while she wasn't sure of her own feelings...she did know that she was enjoying this night.

"I'm sure you'll never have to worry about ending up like him."

Another blush painted her cheeks as she looked away again. She realized that she was giving off mixed signals, even though she wasn't meaning to. So she spoke softly, unable to lift her embarassed gaze to meet his.

"I'm not really the best at small talk..."

Vance smiled and wiped his mouth with his napkin, standing quietly and offering his hand to Tali. If silence was awkward, and small talk was difficult, then another route was needed.

"Then perhaps you'd like to dance with me?"

Vance felt a small surge of confidence. He wasn't about to let the night go to waste. And he wouldn't mind slow-dancing with a beauty like Tali, either. Hopefully she'd take him up on the offer.

Dancing. Now that was something she did know how to do. She'd taken several classes with tutors, in nearly every dance style. And often times, dancing could encourage conversation, it was somewhat easier when you had something else to concentrate on.

Tali took the offered hand and slowly stood, setting her napkin on the table. She would follow Vance's lead, trusting him for the most part now. This was turning out to be a very enjoyable night.

The music was slow, and Vance was skilled at dancing. Not that a slow dance took much skill. It was nice, and he felt slightly guilty for enjoying a dance with this girl as much as he did. After all... just one date, and he was already this fallen for her? He had to get a grip.

This is nice... And she's a good dancer, too. I could definitely fall for her. Question is, does she feel the same? Eh, but I guess one date is too soon to ask.

The dance continued, and Vance made a slight comment.

"You're quite the dancer, Tali."

It was harder now to seperate his emotions from hers, especially since they were touching. It wasn't...horrible, since her own emotions were similar. But she also couldn't resist the urge to move closer to him, since he seemed to want the same.

Tali's delicate arms draped themselves over his shoulders while her face found his neck. For the most part she surrounded him, both her scent and her body. Even this close, she still wouldn't miss a beat. The music, the mix of emotions, just everything about this night was overwhelming and even more intoxicating than the whiskey.

Her voice was soft and sensual as she responded to his compliment.

"You're not too bad yourself..."

Vance accepted it silently when Tali pressed closer, sliding his arms around her waist. It felt oddly natural, the way they ended up close to one another. Vance could honestly say that he hadn't felt this particular way before. It wasn't like the others. Sure, he had slow danced close before, but he never had any emotion behind it.

"Are you enjoying your night?"

The dance continued, as the movie played a scene with a slow dance as well. Everything seemed perfect. Vance wanted the moments to last forever.

Tali's breath caught for a moment as his arms encircled her waist. She'd never been this close to a man before...and it was hard, but she was enjoying it so much. He hadn't wanted her for more, but with the way she was feeling...she wouldn't really mind if he asked for it.

She nodded slightly as she pressed tighter against him, her hips brushing lightly against his with each step. She needed to get a grip, but she was definitely enjoying this.

"Very very much..."

Vance stopped and slid back a step. He hadn't gone that far. Not on the first date. That was a rule. And he could feel himself gradually losing his restraint. And he knew that he'd enjoy going further, which scared him. This wasn't normal for him. It was always just the girl wanting more.

No... I know better than this.

The song ended, right along with the movie. And Vance slid his arms up to Tali's, speaking quietly.

"I think it's about time for us to get going. The movie is over, after all."

Tali fought not to tremble, not to show how hard she was fighting. It wasn't just her emotions, she knew, she might be attracted to a man, but she would never try to go that far that fast. She took a moment, keeping her face hidden against his neck, to regain her composure.

Finally she pulled back a step, then another, until they weren't touching at all. She trembled then, releasing the tension and shaking off all of the emotions flowing off of him. Her arms wrapped around her waist, one hand secretly nudging her music higher.

She swallowed to clear the lump in her throat, nodding slightly. It took her a moment to find her voice again. She was afraid he would confuse her actions...he didn't know about the struggle she constantly faced, wouldn't know that it was just a reaction to their combined emotions, rather than just her own. She was suddenly ashamed of herself, of her power...

"Sure..."

Vance nodded. He reached out, resting one hand over her shoulder as he paid at the front desk, leaving a generous tip. He escorted Tali out to the car, again opening the door and allowing her inside. He then would find his way to the driver's seat, starting the car silently.

"I'm glad you had a good night, Tali. I certainly enjoyed myself. Maybe we can do this again sometime?"

Tali slid into the car and closed her eyes against the sudden tears that filled them. She wasn't used to this, it hurt, and she couldn't understand...she'd never felt this before. Her arms slid around herself as she faced the window, wishing the drive were so much longer than it really was.

She was trembling again, and fighting to hide all of this. She didn't want him to think...to think whatever he would. That she was clingy, or needy, or whatever. She wasn't...her powers had just never...had to deal with such an onslaught.

Why me...? Without having her mask, she still managed to mask her emotions, enough to speak to him and meet his gaze without a quiver.

"I would enjoy that very very much..."

Vance nodded. He could tell something was wrong, but he wasn't quite sure. One thing he did know was that dancing had some effect on her, and he knew what it meant when she accepted his advances. He wasn't sure why, but his instincts told him to back it off.

I'm not sure why, but I get the feeling she needs some space. Maybe this is just too much too soon? At least she wants another date. I'll give her some time to sort out her thoughts and feelings. She looks like she needs it.

Vance spoke gently and evenly, maintaining a very sincere and soft tone.

"Then what do you think about next weekend? I have a lot to do this week..."

Ugh... meetings...

"...but I'd love to take you out again, Tali."

Vance drove on. The drive was admittedly short, but he was happy that he got a few more minutes with Tali. It was a relaxing drive, too. There were surprisingly few drivers on the road for that time of day.

Her heart leapt at the offer, at the same time another blush painted her cheeks. Her thoughts...probably weren't her own, but she was pretty sure they weren't his either...probably just left over from before.

"That sounds perfect..."

It would give her plenty of time to figure out how to deal with her powers. Maybe next time she would need to wear gloves? She'd never realized how physical touch heightened her powers.

"And Vance...?"

She took a breath, she hadn't used his first name before, but she felt like she could now. They had that familiarity. Her reaction to the overload of emotions still made her feel ashamed. She wanted him to know that she didn't just want him...not like that. She enjoyed his company, and not only because he was her first real interaction in years.

"I'm not like those other girls...I hope you can believe me despite some of my actions tonight...."

Vance laughed slightly. He was a bit surprised at how she was acting. She seemed so insecure that he wasn't sure how to handle it. So he simply said what he felt.

"Haha, I certianly hope not. They're boring. You aren't. Stop feeling so self-conscious, you're making me sweat. We both enjoyed tonight, right? So no worries."

As he spoke, the car pulled up to Tali's house. Vance left it parked by the curb, allowing them the most time to walk to the door.

"May I walk you to the door?"

Another swallow forced its way around the lump in her throat. She thought she knew where this was going, even without touching his mind. And it was a harder decision for her than for any of the normal girls he had dated.

Tali wanted to touch him again, because she liked it, but she knew how easily she could be overcome now. Especially by him...and despite that, she inclined her head.

"I would like that."

Vance nodded, opening the door for her and walking her to the door. When they arrived there, he simply took her hand and kisses it graciously, looking her in the eyes and shifting his weight slightly so that he leaned towards her, her hand still in his hand. Any thoughts she read would only be those of respect, and restraint.

"Thank you for a wonderful night, Tali. I'll be seeing you this weekend. Take care, ok?"

That was all. No goodnight kiss beyond what he had already given, no invitation inside, simply a gentleman's goodbye. Vance didn't want to carry things too far. He didn't want to give the wrong impression, and he certainly didn't want to sacrifice a potential relationship for one night's fun.

Tali...couldn't quite understand this man. And she didn't mind it. She was...extremely flattered, and thankful for his restraint even though she knew he didn't know about her gift. It touched her greatly, it was rare to find men like him these days.

She nodded slightly and whispered softly as she stepped back, opening the door even as she faced him.

"Thank you...so so much. Goodnight, Vance..."

And she truly did wish him a good night. She even gave him a gift, although it would just seem to be a memory for him. An image of the two of them dancing, her so close against him. It was honestly one of her favorite, despite her confusion over everything.

She did this as she slid through the door, closing it gently behind her before leaning against it. She would wait until he was in the car to lock it. Then she would slowly make her way to her room, contemplating all of the events of the night.
