Vance had gotten very dressed up for the occasion. He wanted this Tali Heathermorn chick to fall for him even more. She was a beauty, that was for certain. And Vance knew a rarity when he saw one. Sure, he could get any chick if he wanted to. Shallow girls were a dime a dozen. But this one was different, and he wasn't sure why he got that vibe. Perhaps the innocent look? He swallowed slightly, then rapped on the door. I'm here, Tali. |

Tali had spent the majority of the day freaking out and wondering how she got herself into this. It was a little late to go back on it...and honestly, she didn't mind the change. It just confused her to no end. She'd gone shopping earlier and managed to find a dress and a few other accessories. The best thing she'd managed to find were wireless earbuds that would slide into her ears, nobody would notice them. They would help block out everyone else's thoughts and emotion while she focused on herself and Vance. Of course she heard his thought when he arrived, she'd been on edge waiting. Now she slowly made her way to the door, slipping her iPod underneath the belt of the dress and securing it. She took a deep breath as her hand touch then knob, the slowly turned it, allowing the door to slip open. Spoiler: click to toggle

Vance was taken aback at the girl's transformation. The shy Tali he met at the bar was now stunning and gorgeous. She turned from a carefree girl to a ravishing beauty. Vance's mind was filled with thoughts of being awed and in admiration of her beauty. After a moment, he caught himself and focused again. "You're looking beautiful tonight. Come on, I have a special place in mind for tonight. And it's not too far away, either." Vance opened the door to his car for Tali, closing it after her and getting in, driving off as he made sure to keep the car steady. He wouldn't want to wrinkle that perfect dress. |

Tali smirked slightly as she followed him to the car and slid into her seat. One point for me... She wanted to be someone else tonight...to have fun and not worry about everything. This was her first opportunity in several years... "You know...it's not often I randomly meet wealthy strangers in a bar, then agree to go to dinner with them.." She was trying to make a joke, and keep things light, and yeah...she was horrible. Out of practice. "How do I know you aren't whisking me away to your lair or something?" She smiled at him as her hands folded on her lap. She was trying...it had just been a very very long time... |

Vance grinned as Tali made a couple of jokes. She seemed pleased that he liked how she looked. She knew the expression on his face, at least. And that made Vance feel a bit frustrated. For a moment, he had been out-awesomed by this girl. "My lair? Haha, I think you give me too much credit. I'm just a rich white guy with a really good brand of wine." The tone of his last statement would ring false to a telepath like Tali, but Vance didn't know that. He was just being the smooth-talking guy he knew how to be. But he was at least sincere about being a rich white guy with a really good brand of wine... and about not whisking her away to his lair. They finally arrived at a restaurant, aptly named the Whiskey and Wine Dine-in Movie. The place showed a movie every night at dinner time, and served fancy food with all sorts of mixed drinks. It was the perfect place to get to know someone and have a little fun, too. "We're here." |

Tali glanced at him curiously when he responded. I'm sure it's a little more than that... She kept her thoughts to herself, though, she was good about that. A small smile crept its way onto her lips as she saw the name of the restaurant. This was right up her alley. She would wait while he parked and got her door, then slide carefully out. Her hands would absently work the dress, pulling it and smoothing out the wrinkles before taking his hand, if he offered. She'd passed this place often, though never dined in. It was a date place, and she'd never had a date. She was scared things would get awkward. She wasn't accustomed to asking questions or making small talk, she knew everything before anyone could speak. So should would stay silent for the most part, except to make her order, unless he asked questions. |

Vance offered his hand to Tali after opening the door for her. Walking slowly inside, she would find that he had a reservation near the wall, where the movie was easily seen, but the table itself was slightly isolated, giving the two a bit of space from the other tables. "Have you ever been here before? I hear they're playing The Notebook tonight. I figured that would be a good choice." Vance side out Tali's chair, waiting for her to take a seat before moving to his own. The menu had no prices on it. He was paying, and he didn't want her to know the price of what she ordered. |

Tali sat and knew what to order without touching the menu, although she picked it up and scanned it so as not to blow Vance's mind. She already knew the price as well, but didn't let it bother her. He was only a little better off than she. "I've seen it, and I've wanted to come for a while. I've just never really had a date to bring me..." Her last few words trailed off as a blush took over her face. She hid behind her menu, not used to being like this. Why me...? |

Vance smirked as he saw the blush creep across Tali's face. Never had a date, huh? That was surprising. Vance put on his charm again as he pulled the menu back down, looking her in the eye. "Hey." He smiled and gave her that look, the one with the twinkle and the wry smile that he charmed her with in the very beginning. "Relax." The waiter was soon there, ready to take their order. Vance placed his, decided upon before ever entering the restaurant. He then waited for Tali patiently. |

A small shiver slid down her spine as he took away her cover. As a teenager, she'd never really been a teenager. She didn't go to public school or go out on dates with guys, she was too busy preparing for her future to need those things. Tali felt like a teenager again now, blushing and hiding behind menus. Nothing like the twenty-five year old who had been on her own for seven years. She'd never let anyone close to her. No one really knew anything about her. And that's the way she had always liked it... Now...her gaze glanced up to his and she fought back her nerves. Now things would get complicated. She pulled her hands to the edge of the table as the waiter took her menu. She ordered quickly, reminding herself to point it out on the menu so that no one could guess she'd read the minds of the chefs and knew what was best tonight. It had been a while since she'd enjoy steak, after all. However, she did pick whiskey tonight, rather than McAllen's wine. She smirked slightly as she ordered this, along with a diet coke. |

Vance waited for the waiter to bring the drinks. He had some of his own wine, and Tali had some whiskey. He chuckled slightly at the difference. Vance half-saw that coming, though. And diet coke, eh? Not a bad combination. "So, Tali. Tell me about yourself. Where are you from?" |

Tali took several moments to answer, unsure of how she would. Their drinks arrived shortly and she mixed her whiskey and diet coke, taking a sip before taking a breath to answer. "Not from here, but not too far...my dad was a well-known business man." The cerulean eyes couldn't look away from the glass as she spoke. It was hard. Thinking about it. She'd known Vance would ask these questions, and she knew they would stumble upon the next one sooner than she would like. So she skipped ahead and answered it. "Him and my mother died in a car accident right before my eighteenth birthday. I moved here after that...couldn't handle all the familiarity, I guess you could say." She'd taken to whiskey not long after making the move, mostly by playing with the minds of men. She was able to stop doing that once she hit the appropriate age. Giving her very little reason to communicate with anyone these days. |

Vance was a little surprised. It wasn't really something he expected to hear so early on in their date. He felt a little embarrassed to have asked a touchy question without realizing it. "I'm... sorry to hear that. I guess I can't say too much. I made my fortune by making amazing wine. I'm lucky to still have both of my parents. From the look on your face, I'd say you still have some bad memories." Vance felt a little off-kilter now, with the conversation taking an awkward turn early on. He was expecting something a bit more light-hearted. But he could manage with this. He'd just stay himself, and hope she didn't get turned off. |

"It's not so much bad...it's more just...how things change, I guess." Tali took another sip and glanced up at him. She offered a slight smile, tonight was no where near ruined. That was just something...she had to let him know, she wasn't sure. She wanted it out of the way. "I didn't mean to make things awkward, I'm sorry. I just wanted to get that out of the way so I could enjoy tonight. I also don't really get a chance to talk often, so I'm a little out of practice." She laughed lightly as she stirred her drink absently. If she let it sit, the whiskey settled on the bottom and ruined the taste of the mix. She smirked slightly as she sipped slowly. "Tell me about yourself, Mr. McAllen. There has to be more than wine and fine breeding." |

A gentle smile crossed Vance's complexion. He was glad to see that this girl was so honest. She turned what would have been a very awkward conversation around. Now he knew, and they could move on. He got the feeling that was the worst of it, and that now he could focus on her. But instead she wanted to focus on him. He toyed with his wine glass for a bit, then answered. "I don't know what to tell you. I like plants, I have ever since I was little. My parents were hard working, middle class... I learned a lot from them. Turns out I have a knack for making plants defy logic. My crop advice and a couple of really hard-working farmers under my employment have turned regular red grapes into a very profitable business." He laughed. He wasn't used to this. Normally, it was the other girl approaching him. But this girl was one he had been interested in. And it was different describing yourself to someone whose opinion mattered. "Too many people are shallow. I can't stand it. They worry about money, appearance... lots of things. So I have to dress up in fancy clothes and talk a lot just because I make some money. To be honest, I prefer a cup of hot tea and a bit of bad reality television. It's a lot easier to handle." Vance downed the last of his glass of wine. He moved on to water now, not wanting to get ahead of himself, though he certainly loved the taste. But the night was just getting started, and the movie was barely past the opening credits. |

Tali smirked and nodded slightly. That was a lot easier to handle than reality. Especially the reality she knew, where she was so easily overcome by thoughts and emotions that she couldn't control even if she tried. She wanted to follow his example as he changed to water, but she was rather fond of her mix. She slowed down instead, enjoying the movie and trying to take her mind off of her want for the taste. Their food would arrive soon enough and distract her. The waiter took away her glass and traded it for one filled with only diet coke, thinking she wouldn't notice. Of course she would notice that taste difference, but she smirked at having gained her knowledge without even reaching for the glass. She let it slide, knowing his judgement was better than hers at the moment, and knowing he didn't want anything getting started in the restaurant. "My mother was a psychologist, so I'm intrigued by that field. I've never attended college, although I could. I just have more fun messing around and figuring out how people think on my own." It was a simple statement, and it wouldn't give away how, exactly, she figured it out. |

Vance raised an eyebrow. Psychology was one field he knew next to nothing about. After all, he never had to dabble in it. He knew there was a lot said about psychologists, and without looking into it more himself, he couldn't take much of it seriously. "Psychology, eh? Interesting choice. I honestly don't know much about it. Too many people start saying too many things about the field, and I don't even know what's what anymore. Tell me about what psychologists actually do." He sat back, relieved that the conversation seemed to be flowing normally. He wondered for a moment whether or not he'd ever be in a serious relationship. He had too much stuff he had to hide. If he did get into one, it'd likely be with another super... |

Tali leaned back slightly as she tried to form her thoughts. She wasn't sure how to explain, she'd never attended school, and she'd been fairly young when her mother passed. "I honestly don't know that much about the actual field. Like I said, I've never attended college...I just know it's the real deal. My mother helped people, and she was good at it, I know that much..." She shifted slightly, uncomfortable. She didn't want to seem uneducated in front of this man. |

Vance just nodded again. It was a fair response. Not everybody needed to go to college. "I actually never attended college either. My parents wanted me to, but I decided to do the whole 'wine' thing instead. They didn't like it at the time, though. But it sounds like your mother was quite the individual." The waiter appeared with the food, setting a nice plate of catfish and shrimp right in front of Vance, and a nice steak in front of Tali. "Steak. Nice choice. I was in the mood for seafood, personally." He slowly started carving up his catfish with his knife... |

Tali looked up at Vance as he worked with his hands. This man wasn't at all what she had expected. She was definitely enjoying herself, despite the awkward "get-to-know-each-other" phase. She just wanted to have a little fun now. She took up her fork in one delicate hand and quickly reached it over, spearing one of his shrimp and slipping it into her mouth. She giggled and worked on slicing the steak, trying to hide the light blush that had returned to her cheeks. "So how often do you do things like this...?" She questioned, making a motion that included herself, the restaurant, everything. She knew it wasn't something she'd ever done before. |
