Vance was sitting at the bar, like he always did every Saturday evening. He was welcome there. His wine was always a hot seller, and so he got in free every time he went. After all, the bar made him enough money that he could afford to give them a small discount. And they repaid him with free drinks. Why wouldn't he be there often? The day was coming to a close, and Vance was meditating quietly over the events of the past week. He had stopped a speedster in the park, which he found intensely fun if only because he kept his identity a secret. That was amusing. But now he was back to the daily work of a vineyard and winery owner. His family had done right by him, helping him to venture into such a risky market alone. He made it work, though. And now they didn't have to worry about retirement, either. It was then that Vance noticed a particularly attractive girl sitting at the end of the bar, her ipod speakers in her ears. She seemed removed from the group. She was alone here, that was the impression Vance got. So, he ordered her a glass of his wine. "Barkeep. Give her some McAllen, would you? It's on me." After all, I'm not about to let this butterfly fly away without saying hello first... |

Tali was having fun, well...at least her new found idea of fun. It was hard to have friends, or make friends, or be close to people in general. But the music blaring in her ears helped to keep her sane, and live what appeared to be a normal life. Other than the fact that she was alone. In a bar. She sighed and attempted to blow a stray loch of her silver hair away from her face. She failed and sighed again. Delicate fingers had just reached up to remove the annoying thread when the barkeeper set a wine glass before her. She hadn't ordered yet, she wouldn't until it was almost time to head home. And yet here was wine, the one thing she wouldn't have ever thought to order. Cerulean eyes glanced up, swept across the room, while her unnoticed hand hit the "pause" button inside her pants pocket. The music in her ears gave way to the thoughts and emotions around her. She flinched as they rushed her, held them at bay while she shifted through them. Until finally, she found his thoughts and his eyes at the same time. She cocked one eyebrow as her hand reached for the glass. As the glass touched her lips, she allowed only a tiny sip of the wine to pass. And was surprised to find that she rather enjoyed this selection. However, that wouldn't convince her to move towards the admirer. He wasn't the first, and she knew better than to just dive in. |

Vance nodded politely to the girl as he approached her, leaning over and asking her honestly. "May I sit with you? It's awfully strange to see a beautiful girl alone in a bar." Or lucky. Depends. Vance extended his hand casually, a relaxed grin spreading across his face. He was at least hoping to get a name out of this meeting. He might get her attention, he might not. He wasn't so prideful that he couldn't take one rejection. "I'm Vance McAllen. Are you enjoying my wine?" |

Alright...one point for manners... Tali inclined her head slightly. It wasn't like she really cared if he sat next to her, she could always tune him out if he became to obscene with his thoughts. But she was used to people respecting her space, at least people...like him. Her gaze took in his suit, his well-kept hair and overall look. Another point for looks... Normally men like him didn't give her the time of day, let alone buy her a drink. She couldn't look deep enough to see if he was married, although that could be the case. He wanted some fun, and she looked pretty easy. There was a hint of recognition at the name. Now she knew who this man was, or at least a general idea. She knew of the brand, although it wasn't one that she drank often. She could only remember having it once before, but she'd enjoyed it then as well. Alright...what's the catch...? She shook his hand briefly as she found her voice, it wasn't often she got a chance to use it these days. "Tali," If he turned out to be okay, he might get the last name later. "Your wine happens to be the only type I enjoy, Mr. McAllen. I'm a whiskey girl myself, but this is quite refreshing. I might pick up a bottle on my way home." Edited by Nixie, Jan 26 2010, 12:52 AM.

Vance McAllen was having the time of his life flirting with a beautiful girl at the bar. He had successfully gotten an introduction out of her, so he figured he was doing ok. She even recognized his name as the owner of the wine. Score one for the McAllen family name. And wry grin crossed his face. "Well, miss Tali, I have a proposal for you. I'll just give you a bottle, and you let me take you to dinner sometime. What do you say?" He slid a card across the table. It was his business card, complete with his name, rank, and phone number. He gave this card out to everybody he wanted to have his contact information. In this particular situation, it was his way of saying, on no uncertain terms, that he was interested. Cross my fingers. A catch like her doesn't come along every day. Vance's eyebrow shifted up on his face as he waited for her answer. He was fairly confident in his charms, but then, he really wanted a shot with Tali, too. |

This was...strange. She couldn't seem to find any underlying reason for him to be interested. No wife, no crazy psychopathic thoughts. It confused her greatly. But curiosity would win this round... Her gaze stayed on his as she inclined her head ever so slightly yet again, while her fingers pulled the card closer. She tucked it into her back pocket, then grabbed a napkin and asked the barkeep for a pen. It wasn't the most...elegant thing ever, but she didn't want to pretend to be something she wasn't, not around this man. In her swirling calligraphy, she wrote her name, including her last, and number. She folded the napkin in half, forming a triangle, and offered it to the man. "That's three things you're giving me, Mr. McAllen. It hardly seems like a fair trade." Edited by Nixie, Jan 26 2010, 12:31 PM.

Vance nodded graciously and took the napkin, folding it up and putting it in the pocket in his shirt. He'd keep that for later. Now things were going his way. "Fair? I prefer to think of this as an investment. Dinner with you will let me break even, I think." He motioned to the bartender, who promptly brought over a new bottle of McAllen Wine, and Vance slid it just in front of Tali. "But if you think you're getting the better of me, then I guess you'd be a fool not to let me get you dinner. So miss Tali, what kind of food would you care to eat?" The tone in Vance's voice was now a playful one. He was clearly pleased that she had given him her information, and even more pleased that he was taking her to dinner. Tonight was a good night for Vance. |

Tali turned to the bar, sliding the bottle across it between her hands. She felt...awkward, for the first time in a very long time. She wasn't accustomed to being on the spot. It was somewhat unnerving.. "I don't really have a preference..." Actually, she was sure she did, it had just been a very long time since she'd gone out for dinner. It was one of those things she'd often done with her parents, particularly her father...something she'd avoided since she began her new life. She glanced over at him and felt the blush as it painted her cheeks and the bridge of her nose. She quickly turned her attention back to the bottle she was sliding between her hands. There had never been a man in this new life, ever. She felt like a high school student all over again... |

Vance bowed slightly, deftly taking Tali's hand and kissing it gently. He was putting on all the smooth criminal vibes he could at the moment, hoping to charm the girl into falling for him. "Then I have a place in mind I think a whiskey girl might enjoy. Tomorrow at eight, miss Tali?" There was a glimmer in his eye as he spoke. Vance was confident, that much was certain. But he could tell Tali wasn't used to this much attention. So he'd take it easy on her at dinner. None of this suave Vance she was seeing now. He'd just get to know her for a while. |

Tali quickly hit the play button on her iPod, he wouldn't notice the movement or the sound as her music came back to life. She had to make sure that these were her own emotions, not his. She would still be able to hear his words if she focused, mostly because he had to think them to say them, and they were directed specifically at her. A second coat of paint covered the first as his lips brushed against her hand. It was all she could do not to look away. The girl nodded slightly again, unable to find her voice even with her music blocking out all the other noise. This couldn't really be happening, could it? |

Vance nodded, then bowed in a way that was a bit too extravagant, even for him. But, he thought it fit the situation. Looking up with that same wry look on his face, he spoke again. "Then I'll see you tomorrow, my dear. I look forward to it." And with that, he made his way to the door. Mission accomplished. He had charmed the girl completely, and he knew it. The blush was a dead giveaway. That face... it was even cuter when she was blushing... [Topic Left] |

Tali would wait a few minutes after Vance left to gather herself. Then she grabbed the bottle of wine, foregoing her ritual whiskey, and hurried from the bar. Everything was still reeling in her mind and she urged her music as high as it could possibly go. Finally she stopped on the street corner just outside her condo. She took a minute to catch her breath as she switched the bottle to her other hand, there were marks from where she'd gripped it so tight. What the heck...? Slowly she calmed down and pushed away from the wall, making her way inside the building and up to her suite. She wouldn't set him up...she would go...but she would have to make a few stops tomorrow to make sure she was dressed for the occassion. [-Exit-] Edited by Nixie, Jan 26 2010, 01:07 PM.
