Story Arcs In keeping with the comic book and video game format that inspired this forum, our forum events are referred to as "Story Arcs". Like in comic books and video games, there will be an overarching plot that affects the grand narrative, but these arcs will function as chapters within the story. Participation in these events is how you will prove your roleplaying skill to rank up. Each Story Arc is spearheaded by a member of the roleplaying staff. Other staff members may work on the event, but the person running the current arc is the person whom any questions or comments should be directed to. These are cycled among the staff- the same person will generally not lead multiple arcs side by side. This is both to allow the Staff to participate more fully in the RP, as well as to insure the flavor of the roleplaying experience remains fresh and innovative. Threads for a story arch will be announced on this board in a thread formatted as "[Story Arch Title] Event Title". At that time, you will have an opportunity to sign up. Bare in mind this is strictly to gauge interest and activity- you are free to enter if you have not previously signed up for an event. The Sign-Up thread will have a plot synopsis of the event itself, divided between information you will want OOC, and what is readily available to RPCs entering into it. Completion of events is necessary for your rank up requirements. A Story Arc is concluded when the staff member heading it has finished out their story line. This is typically through defeating the main enemy, achieving the main goal, or some other benchmark that is attached to the recurring theme of the Arc. No loose threads should be left opened other than those for the main story or the next story Arc. This conclusion event will be posted for sign-ups like any other event in this board, but with the additional label (Final). Example: [Emerald Dawn] Darkest Night (Final) Upon conclusion of the Story Arc, the staff member heading it will offer rewards to participants. This can be for a number of things, such as MVP for someone who was most active and/or had the greatest impact. These prizes are at the discretion of the staffer heading the event, but are subject to peer review from other staff members. Difficulty Forum events have no set difficulty. Instead, the difficulty of any event will be set on a sliding scale- the enemies, obstacles, etc. will be more difficult to face with larger or higher ranked groups. The NPCer will be certain to provide adequate challenges for everyone in the group, so that at no point an RPer should feel that someone of a higher rank is "Having all the fun", or that anyone of a higher rank will not feel other RPers are not "pulling their weight.". It is worth mentioning at this point that while you must merely participate for your rank up requirements, it must be active participation. If you are actively avoiding conflicts, conversations, etc. and have only made a point of your RPC being physically present, you will probably not be given credit for the event. Empire City: Map and Layout Map: Spoiler: click to toggle The Neon District: This is the largest section of the city, and the most industrialized with the most businesses are, as well as City Hall. This is also where the main base for Flash Point is within Empire City. This is generally considered the safest part of the city as it has the least influence from either of the city’s two gangs, though the official standpoints of City Hall and the police is that Flash Point is just another conduit gang. Fortunately for Flash Point, most officers out on the streets will openly welcome their help, despite the “official policy”. However, because of its housing the city’s government, this district is a major target for the First Sons. The Warren: The Reapers have taken over the Warren as their own; the district having become a slum just like it had been before the city was destroyed. The shipping and receiving portion of the district has become almost exclusively used for the gang to control supplies coming into and out of the city, as there are no other major docks or ports outside of this island. This section is in far worse repair than the other districts of the city, and the Reapers run the streets. The few businesses in this district pay protection to the gang or to the First Sons for protection from the Reapers. There is a police presence, but this district has very few resources and little manpower. The entire police force is either in the pocket of the Reapers, or think of themselves as soldiers in the front lines of a war zone. The Historic District: They have attempted to return this district to its original glory, but it is also in disrepair. The First Sons have established control here, and local law enforcement, while better equipped than in the Warren, is not capable of policing such a large and powerful group of Conduits. This district is completely run by the first sons- some people of the district even recognize the gang’s leaders as their rulers, as opposed to the city’s actual governing bodies. The Factions of Empire City Flash Point: Founded by Zeke Dunbar following the activation of the Ray Field Inhibitor, Flash Point is a group that seeks to unite and train Conduits to use their powers for the good of mankind. Their main base in the Neon District has an on-site training facility equipped to train conduits in using a variety of powers, and serves a number of administrative functions as well. The Empire Chapter is led by a man named Jarvis Smith, whom monitors all of the group’s activities. Flash Point has patrols of Conduits, usually groups of 1-3, that canvas Empire City, with a focus on the Neon District, since it is both their home base and the city’s center for law enforcement and government. Once conduits complete basic training, they are assigned to these patrols, with Flash Point HQ directing them to known emergencies via a police scanner and through the use of wireless communications. While the group actively recruits and trains Conduits, it recognizes their mission is not for everyone and has no quarrel with conduits leaving, provided they do not use their powers to become a public menace. City Hall / The Police Force The Mayor of Empire City is a man by the name of Cyrus Abel, who has established himself as one of Empire City’s most active champions, using his power to push gang violence almost exclusively out of the Neon District. Sadly, while he is a public favorite, he has no love for conduits, and has actively pushed for “Conduit Registration” legislation and pressured the police to arrest conduits for acts of vigilantism as much as for other crimes that are more strictly enforced. Because of the limited size of the police force and the increased need for law enforcement, cases of police brutality, as well as various breaches of due process, have been increasingly ignored to prevent officers from getting benched when the city has effectively become a war zone. The Police have strong control over the Neon District, being both well-staffed and well-funded. Their counterparts in the Warren are quite the opposite, having few funds, little manpower and few resources. The Historic district is so tightly controlled by the First Sons that the district has all but forgotten it ever had a police force. With the City’s limited budget and most funds going toward reconstruction, hopes for increasing the size and resources of the police force are very low. This has lead to a number of civilian vigilante groups springing up throughout the city, whom are much more likely to cooperate with conduit groups on either side of the law if it will bring peace and security. The Reapers: The Reapers are a gang consisting of mostly normal humans, but armed with weaponry not typically available to the common person, such as high caliber or high firing rate ballistics, explosive devices and even rocket launchers. Their leader, a woman who goes by the alias “Pandora” is a conduit, but is less concerned with uniting other conduits as the First Sons and Flashpoint attempt to do, opting instead to the belief that conduits were granted their abilities to rule over the humans. As such, conduits tend to populate the higher ranks of the Reapers, even though most of their members are actually humans. When Pandora saw how poorly policed the Warren was, she seized the opportunity to take it by force, uniting all of the gangs in the entire district, as well as most of the other small gangs in the city, under the Reapers. While this group has few conduits, their sheer numbers and high grade military accompaniments make them a force to be reckoned with. The First Sons: The First sons are a gang that is almost exclusively conduits, though it does have several lower ranked humans who joined the group in worship or in fear of their power and perform mostly labor or administrative tasks- the human members are not allowed to carry weapons typically. Their leader is a Conduit who goes by the alias of “Big Brother”. Few people have ever seen Big Brother, but his name seems aptly chosen as he and the First Sons seem to know about everything and anything going on in the city- always being prepared for police raids, always acquiring key resources first, etc. Not much else is known about Big Brother himself, because he runs a very elaborate command chain. The First Sons are divided into several factions that operate independently, but report back to the main headquarters in the Historic District. These Conduits, known as the “Prodigal Sons” develop and run their own operations and often run entire neighborhoods within districts. The actual historic district is actually heavily divided among First Son factions, and there are stories of a few neighborhoods going to civil war. The Story: Finally, all events in a Story Arch will be archived in a response to this thread, which will Chronicle the overarching story of the forum. Any events that affect only the main narrative will be cataloged in this post. Our Main Plotline is as follows:

Arc Name: Reaper Madness Synopsis: Riots have begun breaking out all over the Neon District, specifically at local watering holes and eateries. Upon closer inspection, a large amount of the food and beverages at these locations smell and taste a little different than they should, though it is subtle. There is a good chance that something was added to them that has mind-altering affects. The Reapers are behind this, using their control of the Warren’s shipping and receiving neighborhoods to gain access to food and water supplies coming into the city. They have established a lab in the Neon District that is producing the chemical. OOC: You will need to: 1. Stop the Riots and learn what is causing them (The food and water have actually been tainted by a strange chemical) 2. Dispose of tainted food and water. Learn of the origin of the chemical. (A Reaper lab in the eastern Neon District) 3. Locate the lab and dismantle it so the chemical will not be distributed any longer. IC: 1. You do not know the cause of the riots, only where they are occurring. 2. Those 3 bullet points reflect to events within the arc. This arc will consist of at least three events. |
