Sonic Agreed with you there should be a Pics and Art for fan art of Christopher in all mediums. As you know am a cross stitcher (not really :D ) and I've nearly finished this mammoth cross stitch of him. Just three more panels left and am done! http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x217/powerjen51/img012.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x217/powerjen51/img007.jpg Nearly 77,000 stitches on 14ct aida and 40 different Anchor threads used. I find the graphics tablet a bit weird as I've only got an A6 sized tablet and so you can't really get a sense of scale with it when you're drawing. You have to sort of look at the screen and just know what you're doing with the pen and follow the dot on the screen rather pen on the tablet in front of you. It's also weird as you can't get any sense of real sense of pressure even though the tablet I've got is pressure sensitive. I think it's pretty easy to get used to but you need to be fairly confident with your drawing skills before you really attempt anything major. Hence me having one for ages having a fiddle with it but never really using it until today. If you're going to buy on though make sure you get a reasonable one there's some really cheap nasty ones out there that'll do you no favours at all when it comes to drawing as they're designed primarily for handwriting or at most photo-editing. |

Somehow I never noticed this thread before... I just clicked on the links to your cross stitch work and wow!!! :O It is amazing! I'm not sure I've ever seen such a realistic representation in cross stitch. Any chance it is finished now and you have updated pics? I would love to see more. I cannot even imagine the hours this has involved... but it's a labor of love I'm sure. ^_^ Absolutely fantastic! Update - I just found the other thread where you posted pics of the finished project. Amazing, amazing, amazing! Edited by LeighS11, May 9 2009, 03:24 AM.

Thanks for the nudge of reminding me to post the finished article. This is me with the finished design which was completed at the end July 2008. Am now doing the 10 actors (sadly outdated because of Matt Smith being the 11th) who have portrayed the Doctor which is smaller in size but with about 74,500 stitches. Am up to about Tom Baker. Posted Image Photo was taken by my friend Sonia in Education Welfare as I work in Educational Psychology next door. Since then it has won the hearts and minds of Eccleston and Doctor Who fans across worldwide on various web boards. How to leave Christopher speechless? Errm...this is how I managed it. His voice went up an octave when he saw it in 2007 in the Purcell Room at the South Bank Centre. "You remember your mum Elsie's best friend doing one for you, what do you think of this then?" holding it up for him to see. Heaps of praise from Christopher too, "Did you do that...? Look at all the stitches, the detail," before gushing to me, "oh that's FANTASTIC!!!" to me. It's my biggest project to date. Edited by ecclesno9, Sep 2 2009, 08:09 PM.

Yes he did see it, photograph not taken (damn!) but hey the memory of him just being awestruck will live with me. Statistics if you're interested: 14 stitch count to the inch 40 Anchor colours Measures 17.7 x 22 inches 76,384 stitches My favourite part of the design is his eyes, they will follow you like the Mona Lisa. Second that his ear, the design makes it clear that he has a creased ear lobe. If you look carefully it's not just black in his jacket either, there's dark navy blue, green, browns too. I have never attempted such a large and complex pattern... I just don't think I have the patience for it. Not even for Chris. LOL The jacket details and his eyes are very realistic. When looking at it, you kind of do a double-take to make sure you're looking at stitchery and not a photograph. I've seen some neat Dr Who craft items online (knitted Tardis, Ood, adipose, clay figures, etc) but that has to be one of the best. |

Thank you for your kind comments. Much appreciated by me. No it's not for sale unless Christopher makes me an offer I couldn't refuse. :$ You don't know the number of times I actually lost patience with it, the times I actually made one mistake and had to unpick it all. I don't know that I'd mentioned this on the old board but I I do sketch occasionally and I do know that I'd put up a photoshop or two. This one is still my favorite: Posted Image |
