Have seen several news bits about Chris playing John Lennon in a BBC drama called "John Lennon - Naked". The gist of the news items is: Christopher Eccleston will soon be seen playing John Lennon in new BBC drama ‘John Lennon – Naked’. The first day of the shoot has supposedly already happened. The Daily Star reported that the actor was not recognizable in Lennon’s trademark long straggly hair. The 90-minute drama will be aired on BBC4 next year. Sounds like it could be a good role to see Chris play and I'd love to see some pictures of him in costume. Too bad I don't get BBC4 on my cable  |

This sounds like a perfect candidate for a future dvd release. Hope we don't have to wait too long! And a dvd should be cheaper than signing up for more channels on your cable system, assuming that BBC4 is even offered on a higher tier. I wonder if this program will just be focusing on the John/Yoko years? I hope so. I don't think Chris could get away with playing him any younger at this point. Anybody have any details on this? His photos are OK. At least, I have confident to see him as Lennon. |

Wow! I'm not sure if he looks more like John Lennon or a young Ben Franklin! LOL It's the glasses I think. |

I found this from a link on the IMDB Amelia page. Christopher Eccleston Set To Play John Lennon 30 November 2009 2:23 AM, PST | Screenrush | See recent Screenrush news » Christopher Eccleston, who starred in the recent aviation bio-pic Amelia, has been cast as John Lennon in the Robert Jones penned Naked Lennon. The BBC Four production aims to shed light on the tumultuous years of Lennon circa 67-71. The focus of the film leans on the final years of The Beatles life. Recently Nowhere Boy, a film that looks into the life of Lennon as an emerging songwriter, drew mixed reviews at its London festival premiere. Naked Lennon will focus on the years "When the Beatle was ending his first marriage to Cynthia as Yoko Ono entered his life, coping with the death of manager Brian Epstein and the group's own messy and acrimonious disintegration." The film also stars Claudie Blakley as Lennon's first wife Cynthia, Andrew Scott as Paul McCartney, Naoko Mori as Yoko and Rory Kinnear as The Beatles manager Brian Epstein. |

It sounds like a great role to me. I've seen quite a few online blog discussions asking "is he too old to play John Lennon"? He may be older than John Lennon was at the time, but I think he can pull it off. |

Thanks for the additional info oconnor5757. It sounds like an interesting subject for a film. I think CE will fine in the part. And he shouldn't have too much trouble with the accent! |

Is there anybody out there? :) Not sure if anyone still logs on here, but anyway just wanted to say BBC4 is starting to show short clips from upcoming BBC4 films to whet our appetite for the new season. There are tiny clips from "John Lennon Naked" - CE looks totally convincing. My husband couldn't believe it was CE. They didn't show any speech, just a few very short bits of film including the one of Lennon and Yoko Ono naked turning away from the camera. |

Hi sonic! Thanks for the link - interesting article. I just hope the writer and director have done their job well enough to make this work - I think CE could do with something good to act in for a change. |

Amen, KathyC! I read an interview with the female director of "Amelia" and she says she had to fight to get CE the part of Fred Noonan... the studio was unfamiliar with him and she was a huge fan... That's great, but how come she didn't use his abilities to full potential and actually give him something worth his talent? :( |

I haven't seen Amelia, but that's such a pity. He must have thought it would be a fantastic film and fantastic role. :-/ It's great that Mira Nair is a fan of his. Haven't caught any more clips of JL Naked. |

Press play and then close your eyes for less than a minute: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2010/03_march/25/drama.shtml The voice bears an uncanny resemblance doesn't it? My jaw dropped to the ground the moment I heard it. Ecclesno9 |
