Sinclair in Berlin with Feet In The Clouds

London based film-maker Kate Sinclair is in shopping Feet In The Clouds a screenplay, which she wrote, based on the award winning novel of the same name by journalist Richard Askwith.

She also plans to direct the project with Christopher Eccleston lined up to play the role of Askwith. Sinclair previously worked as a theatre director and as Film4's book scout. She discovered Vikas Swarup's (at the time unpublished) novel Q & A, on which Slumdog Millionaire was based and brought it to the UK company.

Feet In The Clouds follows Askwith as he takes part in the Bob Graham Round, a race that involves running 72 miles up and down mountains within 24 hours. The project is being pitched as Man On Wire meets Touching The Void.

The $2.2 million budget project which received funding from The Film Agency for Wales is hoping to start shooting in the summer. It will be a co-production between Feet Films Limited, Red Production Company and Boomerang Plus.

Thanks for the find Bubu77...

Fell running - just the thought of Christopher up and down hillsides makes me go all tingly in the inside. Ideal role for him too.

Book review here: http://www.wainwright.org.uk/book_review/2005/feet_in_the_clouds.html

"Man On A Wire" won best British Picture at the BAFTAs recently and "Touching The Void" is another excellent movie too.

This sounded familiar and it turns out that Nan posted the following on the old site in 2007. It was at the end of an interview about Perfect Parents in December 2006.
(Hurrah for the Search tool in Word!)
His hopes for a production of Macbeth folded, so let’s hope this one comes about.

Speaking of his future plans, Christopher says: “I want to have one more crack at Hamlet and I also want to do Macbeth. Given the choice (and I won’t be!) I would prefer to spend my forties doing more theatre than screen acting – I’ve not done enough and I love it.

“I’m hoping to act and possibly co-produce a film of the book Feet in the Clouds by Richard Askwith and a film about the Salford Poet, John Cooper Clarke. Joe Ahearne and myself are also discussing various ideas.”

As for his free time, Christopher is a dedicated runner.

“Running is something I’ve done for 18 years. I’ve done four London Marathons all for Leukaemia Research. It’s a great way to burn off adrenaline at the end of the day and means I beat everybody else to the off-licence.”

Doesn't it take ages for these projects to get off the ground though? :-/

Often, yeah. Still, he's been talking about this for a long time, so hopefully he's ready to go.

Me, too.

Although I'm so desperate for some new Chris material that I'm almost looking forward to GI Joe.

Wouldn't read too much into it. The UK Film Council gives an award to projects it thinks are worth investing in on the understanding that their award will only make up a certain percentage of the budget; the rest has to be made up from other investors.

I'm a big fan of the music video director Chris Cunningham, who got a Film Council grant in 2002 to adapt the Italian comic series Ranxerox. He eventually abandoned the project - I don't know if he had to give the Film Council money back, but what I'm saying is that a UKFC award is not a guarantee that a film is in production. Still, it's an encouraging start, and we know Chris is passionate enough about this material to keep pushing for more money.
