John Lennon - Naked

Posted by LeighS11 (Not So Newbie) at Nov 18 2009, 01:40 AM. 7 comments

Have seen several news bits about Chris playing John Lennon in a BBC drama called "John Lennon - Naked".

The gist of the news items is: Christopher Eccleston will soon be seen playing John Lennon in new BBC drama ‘John Lennon – Naked’. The first day of the shoot has supposedly already happened. The Daily Star reported that the actor was not recognizable in Lennon’s trademark long straggly hair. The 90-minute drama will be aired on BBC4 next year.

Sounds like it could be a good role to see Chris play and I'd love to see some pictures of him in costume. Too bad I don't get BBC4 on my cable

This Beautiful Fantastic

Have seen several Google alerts recently stating that Chris has been cast to appear in "This Beautiful Fantastic" along with Carey Mulligan (who I loved as Sally Sparrow on Dr Who "Blink" episode). Anyone know anything about this film?

Slashfilm.com blog has this to say: "Screen Daily reports on the film, and lists the tremendous cast with which Mulligan will appear: Tom Wilkinson, Christopher Eccleston, Mackenzie Crook and Joanna Lumley. The film will shoot in early 2010 in Scotland and Germany with Terry Loane directing from Simon Aboud’s script, said to be “a modern fairy tale in the vein of Amelie and Finding Neverland.”

The film follows “frustrated children’s author Bella Brown, who only leaves her obsessively ordered flat for work at the library. Chronically shy, she has no friends, no family and no life until she falls in with Billy, a hopelessly messy inventor who whirls through the library’s carefully balanced world like a shambolic tornado.”

One would expect that Mulligan plays Bella Brown, but who is the inventor? Eccleston seems like the prime pick, but I suppose it could just as easily be Wilkinson if Loane wanted to keep things interesting. Little May-September friendship/love affair never hurt anyone, right? (I’d actually quite like to see Crook step up and be the inventor, but I’d expect he’ll be someone who works at the library or another similar ancillary character.) Screen Daily notes that more casting will be announced soonish, so let’s hope the additional names are equally interesting.

The Playlist notes that they’ve read a year-old draft of the script in which Billy, the inventor, is a more minor presence. In that draft a larger character is Bella’s irascible old neighbor Alfie, who sounds like a lock for Wilkinson. In that draft Alfie has a cook, Vernon (probably Crook) who leaves his unpleasant employ to work for Bella. Drop us a copy of the script if you’ve got a current draft, as I’m curious to see how things have been changed about."

IMDB lists Chris in the cast, but no character assignment yet. So far I love everyone who's been cast in this! :)

Doctor Who & New Orleans Mon Amour

Hi all--Amazon.co.uk has a new cd for pre-order called 'Doctor Who at the BBC:A Legend Reborn'. Costs 7.13 pounds plus shipping and will be out at the end of November. It has Elisabeth Sladen narrating the story of how Doctor Who got started again in 2005 and goes through Chris' and David Tennant's years on the program. It's put out by the BBC but uses interviews by Chris and many others taken from more than just BBC sources....I think. Those of you who live in the UK will have to read the item description to give a final word on that. But I'm hopeful that there will be some Chris interviews on the disc that we haven't already heard. I've ordered mine!

And......New Orleans Mon Amour is available on iTunes. Download it to keep for $14.99 or watch it once for $3.99. If you've got a lot of bandwidth you could have a great weekend with Chris!

Bought it from itunes and watched it last night. Not as much nakey nakey as the trailer implied but lots of Chris goodness. It definitely wasn't a "big" movie but it was very interesting and re-watchable. It seems a blend of scenes improvised around interactions and interviews with locals and scripted acting. It kind of meandered and, by the end, seemed more of a long vignette than a whole movie... But I liked it. I'd love to hear some other people's take on it.
