Parents do that with stuff other than band such as sports..which is a major problem in society today..

Yes, I know. To be honest, if a parent forces a child into anything (other that necessary stuff like school), I do not think it is right. It should be a child's choice if they play sport or music, not the parents. Forcing them into it, though will occasionally produce a good musician/sportsman, usually makes the child resent what they are doing and not put 100% of their effort into it.

My parents were very supportive. They didn't force me to play an instrument, unlike the many parents in my school.

I have played the piano since 1st grade and the alto saxophone since 6th grade. I love them both and I have many great memories. :D

Ooh, I love the sax, Soldier. In my opinion, it is second only to the trumpet. :) How good are you at those intruments?

And I'm kinda nervous at the moment; I've got a trumpet exam (Grade 5) in 30 minutes...

Sax > Trumpet ;)

I'm not bad at either of them. ^_^

I think that the trumpet is better. I know someone that played the Saxophone but I played the Trumpet and enjoyed it but then I quit.

In my opinion, the trumpet is a lot more versatile.
