MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. It is an inline game with many player playing at once (some with thousands, some with hundreds of thousands, some even with millions of players). You can interact with other players, while training and developing your own character. Some popular MMORPGs include:

  • RuneScape
  • World of Warcraft
  • Adventure Quest
  • Maple Story

Do you enjoy MMORPGs, and, if so, do you play any? Discuss here. :)

I like MMORPGs. I'm an avid RuneScaper. While the graphics of RuneScape cannot compare with other MMORPGs, it's still an awesome game. There's a wide variety of things to do, people to meet, and goals to achieve.

I also think that MMORPGs are a great way to meet people. Even though you don't really get to know them on a personal level, I think that it's still an amazing way to see how people react with others.

I agree with you, Kraig. I also play RuneScape and love it. I have made many friends on that game (including some who post here) and have become quite close to. While I will never be as close to them as I am my real life friends, I am still good friends with them. :D

I enjoy MMORPGS, but there is one aspect of them that annoys me: Repetitiveness.

In RuneScape, for example, it doesn't matter what skill you're training, you will be doing the same thing for hours at a time. Sure, you may switch methods, but it will ultimately always be unbearably repetitive.

I can't necessarily disagree with that.

I both agree and disagree with you there. Taking RuneScape as an example, training skills in it can be very repetitive. I am going for 99 Woodcutting at the moment and I am just cutting down thousands upon thousands of yew logs. That is very repetitive, and I would find it hard for anyone to make an argument against that.

However, if you play the game to its full potential, it can become less repetative. There are many minigames, quests, etc that can be played to bring a great diversity to the game, which directly combat the repetativeness. As well as this, the multiplayer factor means that nothing will ever be the same. Yes, I am cutting down thousands of yews, but the people I talk to are always different and often very interesting. As well as this, I have many friends who I often talk to and do things with, as well as being in a clan. There's more. The community is great. The RuneScape Forums are always lively and I can always have a good discussion. There are also many fansites that stop the game being repetitive.

So, while on the surface the game may appear repetitive, once you get into the game and know what to do, there are many, many different things to do.
