So, some of you may have heard that a certain 274 page book hit Japan today, known as Hyrule Historia. The book is said to feature a complete, flawless (albeit complex) timeline, along with numerous pages of concept art and even a preview of the Skyward Sword manga. Already translations of said timeline are hitting the internet and while we cannot rely on them entirely for now (at least not until Nintendo decide to release this glorious book in the west), the apparent basic foundation of the timeline opens up plenty of areas to discuss; something that this forum needs. So, CotS, I bring you this: (Anyone who has yet to play Skyward Sword should be wary of possible spoilers) It's said that there are 3 timeline splits occurring after Ocarina of Time; one featuring Link's return to his own time as a child and heading to Termina, one following Link's life as an adult and into the Wind Waker period 100 years later, and, strangely enough, a line where Link supposedly fails to defeat Ganondorf, resulting in A Link to the Past. Main Timeline 1. Skyward Sword 2. Minish Cap 3. Four Swords 4. Ocarina Of Time Split 1: Link defeats Ganon - childhood branch a) Majora's Mask b) Twilight Princess c) Four Swords Adventures Split 2: Link defeats Ganon - adult branch a) Wind Waker b) Phantom Hourglass c) Spirit Tracks Split 3: Link fails in Ocarina Of Time a) A Link To The Past b) Oracles c) Link's Awakening d) The Legend Of Zelda e) The Legend Of Zelda II (Source) So, what do you think of this? Keep in mind that this is merely a translation by a reader and may not be reliable. So, get posting your input so we can attempt to make a little sense of this. |

Its about the same amount of sense I could ever make of the timeline. Although I don't really like the idea of Link failing and resulting in the LttP timeline. |

The next game shall have to be about what happens if Link fails in Zelda II, because when you lose in that game you get: GAME OVER RETURN OF GANON Edited by Ninjα, Dec 21 2011, 08:36 PM.

It does fit together rather nicely. You could probably bet some Zelda fans somewhere are probably furious at this timeline, because you know, it's life changing and all... Although, in OoT, at what point does Link fail to defeat Ganon to kickstart the "Failure Timeline?". I assume it could be after Link awakens all the Sages, since I remember there being something about the Sages at the beginning of LttP imprisoning him in the Sacred Realm. |

It could really be at any point in that game when you, as the controller of Link, gets a Game Over. |

Good Lord. "Split 3: Link fails in Ocarina Of Time" Just thinking about how he would fail, kinda depressing. You think that he would always succeed. Edited by ShadowForce7, Dec 23 2011, 12:25 PM.

Yep, plenty of fans on the Official Nintendo Magazine Facebook page are going nuts about this. A lot of them can't seem to come to terms with the third split, which has been explained a little more with recent translations: According to the book, after Link dies in Ocarina of Time, Ganon obtains the entire Triforce. The Seven Sages seal away Ganon and the whole Triforce as a last resort, but villains with their eyes on the Triforce make for the Sacred Realm, which eventually turns into the Dark World and is filled with evil power. The Seven Sages then try to seal away the Sacred Realm itself, but end up fighting with monsters. This is the Imprisoning War of A Link to the Past. (Source) The way things are going, you'd think that there would be several branches where Link possibly failed his mission, which could be applied to any of the games in the series. If that's the case then I suppose The Legend of Zelda is far from done, heh. |

Well with the amount of times Link has gone backwards and forward in time, changing all sorts of stuff, he's really created like 50 seperate timelines.

Shadow, I'd recommend removing the image itself from your post but keeping just the link; that timeline has some pretty big spoilers. It's pretty good, though, I think I'll be saving that too! |
