Definitely isn't worse than Spirit Tracks. I'm still not done with the game, but the overall feeling I've been getting from this one is that it is very...Japanese. The relations the characters have, the story, the voices. All very Japanese. |

I have the same kind of feeling. I may only be on the Temple of Time due to collegey things and whatnot, but I have a full on erection for this game. |

The Temple of Time is in this game? Spoilarrrs! I'm kidding, I'm kidding. I still haven't beaten the Forest Temple yet. But... I haven't had much time to play since school booted up. |

I just realised I said in December that I'd give my full verdict on the game after completing it but never did. I'll post it now, while being cautious of spoilers. First of all, I'm not going to lie; Skyward Sword disappointed me. And before anyone plays the "lolitsthegraphics" card, let me tell you now - it wasn't the graphics. In fact, that's something about this game I really did appreciate. The impressionist style is certainly very beautiful and it utilises what graphical power the Wii has. Then again, I try not to look at it as Nintendo's way of compensating for lack of HD, but more of a nod to people who enjoy that artistic flair to their games. But even so, it all comes down to personal preference. What let me down was, as I said in my previous post, the lack of exploration. Zelda as we have known it has always had fairly vast worlds with several communities dotted throughout the land, each one being home to the races that populate Hyrule. I know that this is somewhat irrelevant to Skyward Sword considering its placement in the timeline, but there are certain things that stand out. For instance, there are a few Gorons present in the game, and yet there's no community to accompany their presence. They're simply archaeologists wandering the surface. In fact, they feel more like a cameo than anything else. However, they'll still sneak a smile out of you. Gorons do that. I've went off on a slight tangent but here's what I'm saying. Skyward Sword feels more like a game that's split into levels rather than a game with fluid exploration. The usual formula seems to have been simplified (possibly for newer fans of the series) from "exploration > dungeon > sidequests > repeat" to "level 1 > level 2 > level 3", with the dungeons acting as a sort of conclusion to each "level". Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with this formula, but it's just not Zelda. Something else that's recently come to my attention is, not surprisingly, the lacking presence of Link's parents or even the house he lived in before his enrollment in the Knights' Academy. So we've never had any mention of Link's parents before (aside from his mother in Ocarina of Time), but it just seems as though Link appeared out of no where in Skyloft. And there are no other communities in the sky - Skyloft is the only one. If the people in the sky travel using Loftwings, then why aren't there anymore populated islands in the sky? Wouldn't Skyloft become over-populated considering the time it's been around? It just feels a little half-baked to me. One more thing I'm going to mention here is that you cannot fly during the night. Loftwings apparently have poor nightvision and therefore you can only explore the sky and surface during the day. Time does not pass on its own; you have to sleep in some poor bugger's bed in order to progress the time phase to day or night. I don't know about you, but I've always loved exploring throughout the day and night in previous Zelda games. The sudden silence that falls over the Great Sea in The Wind Waker will always stand out in my memory, and then the following mornings with the classic sunrise theme before breaking into that glorious sailing epic. That's just not there for me in Skyward Sword. Putting these factors to the side, Skyward Sword has some wonderful cutscenes. Character expressions and humour in this game is fantastic and probably the best yet. Groose is hilarious, and the amount of innuendos in this game is almost unbelievable. There is one particular scene that almost had me in tears of laughter, most probably due to the fact that I was not expecting something so ridiculous to be in a Zelda game. To quickly round this off, I'll say this. Skyward Sword is still worth playing. This wall of text is purely my opinion on the game and despite the negatives I pointed out earlier, I rather enjoyed the experience. It was different, although maybe too different for me to class this as a definite favourite. For me, The Wind Waker will always win in terms of getting hopelessly lost and loving it. As for sidequests... Majora's Mask is going to hold onto that title for a long time. Here's hoping that whatever Nintendo brings to the 3DS and WiiU in the future is more tuned to newer and older fans of the series. |

No mention of Fi, eh? I can agree about the lack of exploration. It made the backtracking a little less fun when you knew exactly where to go because you passed by the same area several time with no way to access them and they had some interactable object that you couldn't yet interact with. |

To be honest, Fi didn't bother me as much as she did others. I actually thought it was pretty cool when she told me my batteries were nearly dead... Also, drive me closer. I want to hit them with my sword. |

I completed the first dungeon about a week ago... where's my prize!? But honestly, it felt like a bit of a chore to complete the dungeon. As soon as I completed the boss and left, I saved and quit and didn't really feel like playing anymore. It doesn't really have the same magic as Wind Waker or even Twilight Princess did. Maybe it's just cause I'm an old man now. Does anyone else feel the same as I do? Or was it the opposite experience for you guys? |

That's exactly how I felt. Although the beginning of the game had me gripped for a little while, after the first dungeon is just felt a little dull. I think I can safely say that what disagreed with me was the structure of the game, as mentioned previously. It really doesn't have the same charm as the others. If you play a bit more, Waterfox, be sure to tell us how you found the structure. I'm intrigued to see if anyone else agrees with me. |

I got the Hylian Shield in Hero Mode and haven't felt like going back. I technically beat the final boss before I got to him to get it...so good enough. |

I last completed the Ancient Cistern and then gave up entirely. This has nothing to do with the game itself; I'm just terrible like that. I really have to pick it up again some day if TF2 ever allows it. |
