There seems to be a lot of debating going on about this topic. I think Ocarina of Time has the best story, followed by A Link to the Past. I don't know why I like OoT's story more, as it essentially copies LttP, but there's just something about it. |

I think OoT is the best. It could've been a whole lot more, what with some of things alluded to by characters but unable to expand on. If the early development of the game wasn't plagued with so many problems and late decisions as it so horribly was, than it could've been even better. Even with all the production leftovers and evidence of scrapped concepts lying around in that game, it's got to be one of the Top 10 most revolutionary and overall best games in history. It's also the glitchiest game in history, with Goldeneye in close second. ... Oh, wait, we were talking about plot, right? Well, OoT has the best story too. |

I agree with the two of you; OoT has been one of the best, and introduced the plot line that is still used today that can only be pulled off in 3D, and still has enough charm that pulls it all together.

Zelda was never heavy on storyline. I always felt gameplay was the main feature of the series, but as for best storyline, OoT clearly expands on the story to the furthest detail. Plus, it's one of the originals. Games like ALttP and OoA/OoS hardly have a storyline at all, in my opinion. It's all about the adventurous gameplay. |

Majora's Mask, without a doubt. Like Balore said, the Zelda series has a cookie-cutter plot, and usually the plot is irrelevant. Ocarina of Time, it had better story development than the previous ones, what with cutscenes and all. But MM had the atmosphere and every character had a personality, and thanks to the time-travelling aspect you could dive into it all. Plus, it took a decidedly darker route, which I happen to think was great. |

Yes, Majora's Mask had the best mood and theme (and gameplay), but it didn't have much of an actual story. It revolves mostly around the unexplained. It's the best in almost every way, but there just isn't much of a back story except for the four giants thing.

I preferred the Majora's Mask story. The other ones just seemed too generic once it summed up to a basic: 1. Start in relative obscurity 2. Save the ailing world 3. Find you are destined to kill Ganon (but none of your predecessors have) 4. Kill Ganon until the next game 5. And repeat MM was almost a totally different story, with no Ganon, Zelda, or Master Sword. Yet almost all characters with a name had a story, personality, and background that would spawn a mission or sub-story. And also as SL92 said, it was one of the darker games, and the end if you stayed until the 4th day was weird. |

I should probably mention that I've yet to even play Majora's Mask, but you're all making me quite interested in doing so. |

You really should play it. MM is probably the best one in the whole series, and it will take the longest to finish completely, by far. |

Majora's Mask is pretty unique. Whenever I play I really feel like I'm part of a living, breathing community. But Ocarina of Time has that classic, timeless feel to it. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I don't care. Balore, LttP has the exact same plot as OoT sans the time travel, how can you say it has no story? |

Majora's Mask had the best story because you became a part of so many lives instead of being yourself fighting evil. |

I remember reading this amazingly deep analysis on Majora's Mask somewhere (Here). It definitely has the most detailed story of any Zelda game and the best imo. |

I would have to say OOT. The game really set the standards for the future games, and the story is one of the best. The story seemed to flow thoughout the entire game unlike some games like ALTTP and ST. |
