Ito Takashi lounged thirty feet above the ground, resting in the thick, forked branches of an ancient tree standing watch over the entrance to the caverns. He yawned miserably, stretching his arms above his head before settling back into his relaxed posture. Hands behind his head, one leg dangling over the side of the branch, looking up at the sky through the thick branches. From the brief glimpses he caught of the sun, he knew that he still had a while to wait. "Why do I always do this to myself..." Takashi hated waiting. Today was the day he was to meet with his new students for the first time, and each minute seemed to pass slower than the last as the scheduled time drew near. It was always like this. He'd get excited about something, arrive far too early, and end up miserable as he waited for everyone else to arrive. "Another twenty minutes or so..." He sighed. "If everyone just showed up early I wouldn't have this problem," he grumbled. He reflected on when he had been a young shinobi, still in training. His father's words echoed in the back of his mind. "Punctuality is the mark of discipline. Always arrive ahead of schedule. Early is on time; on time is late." Takashi smiled wryly. Occasionally, he realized that some of his father's teachings still held strong, no matter how hard he'd tried to erase them. Or at least revise them. "Heh." His eyes closed in remembrance of his cold past. "Old habits die hard, eh, Otousan?" He didn't really resent his father. If anything, he was sad that he'd never really felt close to the old man before he'd passed. His smile faded. He'd never really felt to close to anyone except Hayate. Takashi frowned up at the branches. He shouldn't be thinking such depressing thoughts, not today. Today was about his students, not him. Sighing, he sat up and dropped to the ground. He pushed all thoughts of Hayate out of his mind, focusing instead on the task at hand. It pained him somewhat - he didn't like squashing his emotions like that - but there were times when duty came before desire. No matter how different he'd changed over the years, nothing could change that. Besides, first impressions were important, and he didn't want his new pupils to think he was a mopey, depressing weirdo. He grabbed his flak vest from a low hanging branch and slipped it on. He wasn't big on ceremony, but he wanted to have at least some semblance of authority for this first meeting. "Even though these things are so damn uncomfortable," he thought, tugging at the high collar. Takashi shaded his eyes with one hand and glanced up at the sky again. "Ten more minutes or so." Better than twenty he supposed. As he stood waiting, he quickly reviewed his lesson plan in his head. First, there would be the customary introductions - with his own little touches, of course - and then the real fun would begin. |

Unohana laid in bed, staring up at the ceiling. She had been doing that all morning; ignoring the rumbles in her stomach and the blazing Konoha heat beaming down upon her. The events from her last mission really put some things into perspective. The girl had to improve. If she keeps up with her current skill, she'll be six feet under by the end of the year. It frightened her on how simple things could change so radically without a moments notice. Maybe that was the reason she slugged around in bed. Fear. "I can't just lay here.. Get up, Unohana. Get up." She coached herself as if she were on the outside looking in. It was rough being all alone in a foreign country at this age, at this time. Shifting her body upwards to a sitting position, milky hands ever so blissfully whipped across her face. Eyes narrowed, hands tightened; "I'll get through this day by day." Yes, yes, yes! She can do this! Playing on this motivational drive, Unohana sprung into action, quite literally. Bouncing out of bed, she scurried along to do her daily routine. Shower, eating, and a little reading. Not all at once, though. Equipping her weapons and double checking to see that everything is in place, she nodded firmly to herself before exciting her home. Spilling out into the streets, she did not resent the sun today. She felt good. Today she would be assigned to her first time after some odd months of being here. It was exciting. Not only would she be able to improve on her skills, she has a much easier time gather information on Konoha and surrounding areas with her Jounin protecting her. That's if he was the protective type. The tip of her right index finger slowly tapped the brunt of her nose, contemplating on the dangers should she slip up. Hope. Hope that her Jounin wasn't a hard-ass and more along the lines of easy going, maybe a little of a goof. She didn't consider too much thought on who her fellow genin would be. They weren't much of a threat to her, push coming to shove, she could dispatch of them should the need arise. Smiling widely behind her mask, her first big break in her mission was coming up! Having lost herself in thoughts and excitement, she almost lost sight of were she was going. Focus. Hands drew to her pouch, grabbing a blank set of information cards and started mapping out her route to the cavern. Her mapping stopped just short of where she was to meet her Jounin. This is as far as she'll get today. "Amazing. To think such a thing existed.." Whispered Unohana, eyes wide in astonishment while at the same time looking out for her sensei. Boy, this would have been much easier with her Sharingan.. A few minutes passed until she finally spotted her Jounin, who was lounging around. "Yes!" Softly exclaimed the Uchiha, making her way towards Takashi. "Sensei! Sensei!" Small hands waved on the Jounin. He didn't look too bad; red hair, green eyes.. older fella. Sure the majority of her actions were all a front, but a little genuine is mixed in. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Sensei." |

Head Captain: Water Country

One deep breath in, sudden and sharp. Yu filled up his lungs with the crisp air, scented with the burning incense. One long smooth breath out. He slowly exhaled, slow enough to pull one for almost fifteen to twenty seconds. It was a little relaxing, physically, but it did nothing to calm his mind. He sat cross legged in front of a bowl of water, focusing the best he could. By this time he had the full measurements of the room around him, identified all the best places for various kinds of traps, revised those trap places, and of course knew the volume, weight, and so on of the bowl of water in front of him. It didn't do to just sit there and think, and yet he couldn't help it. The idea of total meditation, not thinking at all seemed almost impossible to him. He had managed on a fluke a time or two, but it wasn't up to par. He wouldn't be able to properly purify chakra if he couldn't learn to- knock knock knock Yu turned his head to the rapping of a fist against wood. His father stood at the door, tapping the side to draw his son's attention. "Training is good Yu, but please try not to be late for your first team assignment." he said. Yu blushed, but thankfully it was hidden under his hood. He had forgotten, and didn't have much time left. He quickly stood up and walked to the bathroom, straightening his appearance a bit. Not that much of his appearance was visible, all black clothing and whatnot. Then Yu hurriedly grabbed his large tool sash. Yu was thankful that he prepared the bulk of it after each use so that it was easy to grab and go. Running out of his house, Yu took to rooftops right away and sped toward the caves. He had taken it upon himself to memorize most of the village layout from public maps he had. It was a slow day at the academy so he didn't think any of his chuunin teachers would mind all that much. Slwoing down as he arrived toward the cave, he wasn't late, but he wasn't really early either. The idea didn't sit well with him. He wasn't one to be late, that much was obvious, and he wasn't the type to arrive twenty minute early either. His personal preference would have been five or ten minutes. Enough time to scope out the area, but not enough to become bored waiting. As he walked up he pulled his hood tighter around his face, kind of like his own personal security blanket when meeting new people. He spotted a young girl first. Probably around his age, somewhere around his height, and because she was a girl he assumed she would be lighter than he was. Otherwise she had black hair, and very dark clothes. He approved of her style, if only because it was similar to his own and would function well in the shinobi world. Then his sensei came into view, as always he took his mental measurements first. Probably in his late twenties, maybe early thirties. Somewhere just under six feet. And around one hundred and forty, maybe fifty, pounds. Yu did a basic estimate in his head of what the two could do physically, but it was pretty impossible to tell. Without actually looking at their bodies, no clothes on, he couldn't judge how their muscles had developed, and without medical training he couldn't use that information past its most basic form to judge their ability. All he could tell was that their sensei seemed trained, despite his relaxed nature, and the girl seemed prepared. Though, Yu based the latter thought solely off the fact she dressed like a shinobi would. Stepping forward to the two, and raising one hand up to make a very unenthusiastic wave, Yu joined the group. He didn't say anything, he just gave them both a nod and waited for someone to talk or their third team member to arrive. If his information was correct it was the boy he had watched during the tournament. That Hatake child. "..." |

Lazily loafing about, Kama had been awake for hours now. He had been hanging out near the cave entrance all morning drifting into and out of sleep. He was far off in the trees, leaning against the tree trunk catching some Z's. Kamui nudged him to wake up. "Uhm.. go away Kamui. Tired." The gray wolf looked around and bit his master's leg. It was a slow reaction, but Kama finally felt it and sprung up screaming. Kamui looked around as though he was innocent. "Right! You didn't do it, psh." He kicked dirt at Kamui as he looked up to notice the sun. "Oh crap! I should be there in like 5 minutes!" Luckily for him, he had prepared before hand. The reason he came out was to catch some extra sleep before rushing off. He grabbed all his things and tidied up a bit before heading off. He jumped to the top of the tree he was sleeping near to get a better look at the area. "Hmm... now which way was it again..." Despite having heightened sense, Kama lacked a sense of direction sometimes. He turned his head in two directions trying to remember which way the cave entrance they were suppose to meet at was again. "Psh, who needs directions when your me!" He said out loud to no one in particular, pointing his thumb to himself. It was slightly true though. Kama sniffed the air, hoping to pick up a scent he smelled before. "Hm, three people seemed to have gone that way!" He got up to point, but it was the wrong direction as Kamui pushed Kama, making him lose his balance and almost fall. Kamui jumped off into the right direction this time. "Think your nose is better than mine eh?" He thought about how much time he had left, it was a little over a minute now. "Crap crap crap. Fine! You're right!" He said, chasing Kamui through the trees. He seen three people a little ways off and jumped down to them in a quick fashion. Sliding along the floor, kicking dust up, as he came to a stop finally. "Safe! Yeah!" He paused for a second to look up at the others, hoping they didn't give a weird look. Kamui slowly trailed behind him on purpose, as to say they weren't together. Kama looked at the others, he knew one of them, the girl, Etsuko. The other two he never seen before until today. "Oi oi! Sorry, I might be a little late. Heh." Proceeding to scratch the back of his head in embarrassment. Edited by Zeig, Sep 30 2009, 06:33 PM.

Takashi smiled as the first of his new charges arrived. The girl seemed cheerful enough - strange, considering her almost gloomy attire. "Ohayo~!" Takashi said cheerfully as the girl approached, raising one hand in a strange little half-wave. "Need to make a good first impression..." He smiled. "I am Ito Takashi," he said, placing his hand on his chest, his voice a smooth baritone, "but you can just call me Takashi-sensei." His smile widened a little at that. He loved being called a "sensei", almost as much as he loved being one. His hand moved from his chest to his chin. He rubbed his beard thoughtfully. "Let's see...you are Izanami Etsuko, right? Just relax for now. We'll save the introductions until everyone arrives, okay?" He gave Etsuko the "ok" gesture, making a little O with his thumb and forefinger. The next student arrived not long after her. The boy wasn't much bigger than Etsuko, but Takashi couldn't tell much about his mood because his face was covered in shadows. To Takashi, that marked him as Hansha Yu - the genin had been wearing that hood in every picture the Academy had of him. Like the girl, he wore mostly black, but from the boy's half-hearted wave, and quiet demeanor, it seemed to suit him. "Ohayo~!" Takashi said, repeating the greeting he'd given Etsuko, but Yu didn't seem too responsive. "Silent type, huh?" Takashi grinned slightly. "We'll have to work on that." He just gave Yu a slight nod of acknowledgment. "Only one more to go..." Takashi looked back and forth between the first two arrivals, wondering how this first meeting would go. Both of the young shinobi seemed fairly traditional, and he didn't know how they would react to his unorthodox attitude. If they were skeptical of his methods, he would have a harder time getting them to go along with his teaching, but Takashi didn't mind a challenge. Of course, he didn't really know them very well yet, and he could be jumping to conclusions. For all he knew, they were just nervous. "I guess we'll find out soon enough." He glanced over his shoulder at the entrance to the caves, hoping that everything was in place. "I wonder..." Takashi was startled out of his reverie by a sudden noise, and turned back just in time to see a rather lanky youth - his third student - come sliding to a halt. For a moment Takashi was stunned, but as the kid - Hatake Kama - began to speak, Takashi let out a hearty laugh. He gave Kama a thumbs up. "Nice moves!" Kama was exactly the kind of student he liked - energetic, brash, and fearless. The kind the other instructors dreaded. They were always the most fun. "Don't worry about it," he said with a grin, "you're right on time. Now we can get started." Takashi cleared his throat and put on his best serious face. "Today, you will face your first real challenge as ninja. You are no longer students - you are warrirors of Konoha." He looked at the three genin in turn, letting the seriousness of his words sink in. "This is just a training exercise, but don't let that fool you." Takashi's brow furrowed, his voice dropping lower to emphasize the importance of his words. He leaned in close. "The danger will be very real. If you don't work effectively as a team, one or all of you could get seriously hurt." He straightened, clearing his throat again. "In a few moments, we'll be heading into the caverns," he gestured over his shoulder with his thumb, "but before that..." Takashi's seriousness suddenly disappeared as a smile split his face in two, his tone going from grave to cheerful in an instant. "It's time for introductions~!" After giving them a moment to recover from the sudden shift, he continued."I know all of your names, but you might not all know each others, and I'd like to know more than just what to call you and your grades from the Academy." He pointed to Etsuko. "Starting with you. Let's see...why don't you tell everyone...your full name, how old you are, and...hmm..." He needed a good third piece of information. While his tone was relaxed, finding out about one's teammates was important to the overall dynamic of the team. It also gave Takashi a good idea of how each of the genin would respond to his teaching, and how he could best instruct them. "how about...what made you want to become a ninja?" It was a vague question, but it would serve his purposes for now. He waited patiently for each of them to answer. Hopefully, this would break the ice between all of them, and there would be less distractions when he took then inside. |

Unohana smiled beneath her mask. So far so good, he's just as cheery as she's portraying. "Right, Takashi-sensei!" The Uchiha reliantly responded to with a salute to follow. It was a bit out of whack to be this cheerful, but hey, she loved doing her job. "Yessir. Izanami Etsuko at your service." Obeying her Jounin's orders, she nestled herself in a sitting position, awaiting the rest of her team. Not too long after she had taken her seat, the second of the three arrived. He was just like her in the sense of concealment. She couldn't help but respect his decision on clothing. Not flashy and good maneuverability. However it did raise question.. is he as sneaky as her? Being the silent type, it's hard to judge how he reacts. She'll have to be weary around him. Waiting and waiting, she started to wonder if the last kid would ever show. And with an entrance granted with unwarranted self-importance, her world of easy street just met with a roadblock: Kama. Black eyes narrowed in disgust. "Not this guy and his mutt again! I was hoping that last mission was our last." Thought Unohana to herself, grumbling vague obscenities under her breath. She tried to seem unphased by Kama's appearance, attempting to tune into Takashi's further briefing. He kicked it off by stating the team will face their first real challenge as ninja. Little did he know she was already doing it, and the task weighed much higher on her than anything he would unveil. It is true, though, she was no longer a student, at the same time not a warrior of Konoha. Sleek eye brows fluttered at the dramatic tone this speech was taking; a coy to empty up their stomachs? Oh, great. There inherited danger. Knowing very little of Yu, and enough about Kama, she couldn't help but lower her head in dismay at the events that'll unfold. Her first day in a team, her first real break through in her mission might very well lead to something else breaking. Nevertheless, it's still an opportunity to gather more information. She'd be extra aware of her surroundings to map out later after this test of might is finished. Before they even dipped into that, it was story time and she was first. Rising to her feet, she quickly batted off any dirt from her clothing. A measure to prevent collected dust and dirt from making untimely appearances. "My name; Izanami Etsuko, fourteen years old. I live to serve. It's my duty and obligation to the shinobi world. In order to achieve the goals of the whole, I must be the hand of my village and carry out the needed tasks in order to see those goals fulfilled. To advance my village beyond what it is. That is why I became a ninja." Her voice gave out the strict and bland voice she is so accustomed to. Her words weren't lies, but clever enough to mock into her allegiance to Konoha. |

The last member showed up not long after Yu had. Just as Yu had suspected, it was the Hatake boy. Though now that he was actually meeting him, he seemed much more laid back and unprofessional that yu had hoped. Then again, the same could be said for his sensei. (Btw, thanks for saying Yu had his hood up in all his academy pictures, that was awesome!) Of course skill couldn't really be measured in a person's personality alone. Just because Takashi-sensei seemed too relaxed didn't mean he wasn't a capable jounin. Yu told himself that two or three more times before he believed it. Then back to the Hatake boy, sliding in with his wolf several steps behind him. If Yu didn't know better he'd say that the Hatake boy came in, and the wolf made an effort to enter separately. Then again Yu might have done the same thing if his partner come off so carefree. Yu mentall scolded himself, he was being too judgmental. He didn't know these people and had no right to be so critical. Then Takashi-sensei took a more serious tone. He informed them that today was their start as shinobi of Konoha. They were just doing a training exercise, but it would be very real. This suited Yu just fine, there was no point in doing this exercise if there wasn't some kind of consequence for failure. Not when they had done countless training exercises back at the academy. Then he broke his serious tone with a chipper shout for introductions. The sudden change left Yu feeling slightly dissapointed. Of course this was totally unnoticable as his hood covered most his face. (Though a large tear could probably have been seen over his head if this was a manga lol) Still, if he was to work with his fellow genin then names would only help. The girl stood up first, brushing herself off a bit and then going into her introduction. That is why I became a ninja." Yu stood quietly, as always, listening. Izanami Etsuko, fourteen, duty to her village. He made a mental note of it, strong obligation to the village was good. It would make her dedicated and more focused, he hoped. Then it was his turn, he hadn't noticed he was standing in the next person to talk position, and mentally scolded himself again because he had wanted to go last. It was a bit late though, he took a moment to think and remove all the unnecessary words from his own introduction. After a small and slightly awkward pause Yu tightened his hood around his face and said "Hansha Yu. Fourteen. My family." That was all the information asked of him, and he didn't intend to prattle on about it. Not that he held it against anyone that did, he just wasn't much of a talker. Done with his own introduction, though it barely managed to be that, he turned his head to Kama. Even under the darkness of his hood it was clear he was staring at the Hatake boy, trying to force the introduction curse off himself and over to him. Edited by Nosumo, Oct 1 2009, 07:12 PM.

The Jounin-sensei gave them a short introduction of himself and proceeded to talk about the task at hand. "Real huh?" Kama thought about what his Sensei said. Everything he has done up till now was just a game really. The real ninja world was about to begin for him. This is where it will determine the fate of his teammates and him. More so for himself really. This will prove whether or not he was really on par with his ancestors. He had been deep in thought and didn't realize he was clenching his fist the whole time. His thoughts were broken by his new sensei's voice however. Now started the introduction. He already met Etsuko before and just watched her make herself seem like a tool to be used. Something Kama didn't consider himself. Something about her was to formal, even as far as to say she had a one track mind. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but she annoyed him in some sort of way. He waited until she was done speaking her nonsense and looked at the other guy, well, he presumed it was a guy. Kama couldn't really tell with the hood the guy wore. "Ooh! Maybe he's more interesting then that annoying girl." He waited in anticipation for the boy to speak, watching him tighten his hood even more then before as he spoke... "Hansha Yu. Fourteen. My family." Kama stood there with his mouth open and off balanced, almost as though he was about to fall over. "...Seriously? Oh god, I'm screwed." He straightened himself out and cleared his throat, readying himself to start his introduction. "Ahem. Hatake Kama, age 13, I became a ninja to surpass my own limits and to learn new things, He paused for a second trying to find the right words, and courage enough to say it. "And in hope to surpass my ancestors legacy." Kama let out a big breathe of air as he didn't believe he himself was capable of such things. His reasons were a bit selfish, but to say otherwise would be a lie. Kama was mentally giving himself a pat on his back, though he seemed to forget something. He felt something pierce his leg and he looked down and let out a yell. "Ok ok! I didn't forget you, I was getting to you next." He turned to face everyone again. "And this is my buddy Kamui." Kamui bit down harder now as Kama let out another yelp. "What you want me to tell them a whole biography of your life too!?" Flailing his arms about as he attempted to get out of the wolves grasp. Finally removing him, scolding him and letting out a sigh as he nursed his leg. |

Takashi listened patiently to each of their introductions, giving a simple nod of his head after one finished and simply nodding to the next. As they went down the line, he grew more concerned. While each of the genin seemed like capable ninja, they all had a few hurdles to overcome in their thoughts and attitudes if they were going to be an effective team. Yu needed to break out of his shell a bit, and Etsuko's reasoning was almost frighteningly similar to his own at that age. Kama was a bit of a surprise - trying to live up to the past was an admirable goal, but it could also be a source of distraction and disappointment. After all three had finished, he stroked his chin thoughtfully. He could jump right into the lectures now, but that would make them more restless before the training started. "Guess we'll get started then..." He nodded to himself. "Alright, good," he turned and started into the caverns. "Follow me." He walked quickly but steadily, leading his students into the vast network of living caves. There was a sort of tunnel as they entered, a hollow tube of wood - much larger than any tree - with a sort of path along the floor. As they walked, he began to explain the nature of their mission. "These caverns are an important part of Konoha's infrastructure," he said, making a sweeping gesture with his hands. "They spread out beneath the whole Fire Country, and are vital to the mobilization of forces in and around the village." He stopped, and turned to grin conspiratorially at the three genin. "It's also a great place to bring chicks." He laughed and started forward again, taking a left at a fork in the path. "Anyway, where we're heading is just a bit further." The tube suddenly. opened up into a huge chamber with dozens of smaller tunnels like the one they'd just exited. He paused for a moment, letting the students (and himself) take in the impressive sight. After a moment, he pointed to a small opening on the far side of the room, marked off by a small barrier of red caution tape. "There it is." He led them over to it, stopping at the edge of the barrier and turning to face them. He reached into one of the pockets of his vest and pulled out a small electronic device - a timer of some sort. "I'll be going in first," he said, tossing the timer to Yu. "Set that for five minutes and start it as soon as I'm inside." He glanced at each of the genin in turn, making sure he had their full attention. "Once the five minutes are up, it's your job to come find me. This tunnel has several branches and a few dead ends, so you'll have to do a bit of searching to find me" Takashi raised one finger, and his tone became serious again. "This might seem like a simple task, but there are a few things you need to know." He raised one finger on his right hand. "One, there are no light sources in this particular passage. You'll be on your own for that." He raised a second finger. "Two, not every path is safe in there. There are traps in place in some of the tunnels, and there might be other surprises for you as well." He held up a third finger. "Third, and most importantly, there are some monitoring devices set up inside so that I can keep track of your progress during this exercise. I will be evaluating you on how well you work as a team." He lowered his hand, smiling. "In the shinobi world, your teammates are your life. Trust them, respect them, help them." His smile faded, and a bit of the warmth went out of his eyes. "A ninja who doesn't help his teammates is nothing but trash." After a few moments, once he was sure his words had settled in, he turned and disappeared into the tunnel, shouting back for Yu to start the timer. He made his way quickly along the path he'd memorized, backtracking and retracing his steps from time to time so that, if he left a trail, it wouldn't be an obvious one. Settling in a small room at the end of one of the passages, he popped a small listening device into his ear. There were microphones set up throughout the cavern, set to react to any sound near them. "I wonder how they'll do..." he thought, hoping that nothing terrible happened. Not only were there traps, but a few select Chuunin were patrolling the caverns, instructed to hamper the genin at their own discretion. It was too late to worry now, though. By Takashi's count, the five minutes were almost up. "Alright, kids," he murmured, "come and get me." Edited by Padango, Oct 2 2009, 02:41 PM.

She ruffled around a bit, pleased with her introduction. It seems she had pulled the wool over Takashi's eyes for now, just keep up the good work. There was something about Kama that just triggered something in her brain. It could be his recklessness.. or his unguided tongue. Her hand quickly balled up in annoyance when Kama spoke, despite it not being his turn. The rude bastard. Biting her tongue, quite literally, she refrained from physically lashing out at Kama, who she now realized was a direct descendant to the ever-so prestigious family line: Hatake. Perhaps he wasn't such a dunce after all.. "Or maybe the bloodline thinned out too much.." Muttered Unohana to herself with her eyes directed towards Kama. It wouldn't be long until her Jounin spoke up again, dropping down hot, fresh, mission details. It was an exciting build up for her; being lead down this mysterious path of living caves. She had to mentally note all of the details around her. The things about Fire Country are generally quite amazing, the wonders of the world. Even in such a great state of war do they manage to devise intricate tools to get the jump on prey. Snapping out of her fan girl-ish daze, she nodded randomly, drawing her attention back to Takashi. He babbled on more and more about the mission. Turns out that it was one big game of hide and seek with a few wondering Chuunin and hidden traps. During the five minute head start, Unohana decided to write down what she had gathered on her information cards. It was the best time to get this critical information down and not play it off as suspicious. She had finished writing down a little after the five minute mark, the alarm buzzing in completion. Putting the cards back in their rightful place, she took venture into the cavern. It was dark and gave off an aura of creepiness. No light wasn't much of an issue, she was trained to work at night. Traps and Chuunin were another story. "While it's more safe to travel in pairs, we'll get through this much quicker if we split. I trust you two won't make any unneeded actions." Her eyes quickly shifted towards Kama. "..But it's probably just wishful thinking." Harsh, but it was payback for earlier. This would have been much easier with her Sharingan. She cursed herself for not being able to use it. The darkness Takashi exaggerated about wasn't too bad. It was sightly enough so that they weren't running into trees. But it wasn't like they were going to rush into it, well, at least not her. Kama on the other hand.. "To keep a tracking of our trail, we should create a bunshin at the beginning of the trail before wondering off and another for when we return. That way, we can marker which entrance we're in and which one we've already covered." Trying to predict which branch Takashi was in, she closed her eyes as if channeling some mysterious divine force to point her in the right direction. "Okay. I'll take the farthest tunnel on the left. When creating the second bunshin upon exiting a cleared tunnel, we'll want them to be giving a thumbs up. That way we know it's clear and can move on to the next tunnel. Without any formal way of contacting one another once we enter the tunnels, we'll just have to trust our abilities." Walking towards the farthest path on the left, she created a single clone of herself at the entrance standing idle with hands to it's sides. She didn't wish them luck as there was no room for error, they -had- to succeed. With her marker in place, Unohana cautiously went forth in search of Takashi. - - - Used: - Clone Skill [Bunshin no Jutsu] A basic technique which creates false clones of the user. Yu stood patiently, watching Kama finish his introduction and then receive a bite for finishing before his pet was properly introduced. It seemed like an odd partnership where the pet was allowed to freely bite the owner. But Yu didn't say anything and just turned back toward Takashi-sensei when he started speaking again. He went on about the importance of the caves, Yu hadn't realized they were so important. The area was one of the few maps he wasn't allowed to memorize while at the academy, now he knew why. He was tossed a timer, that he caught with both hands and held onto. The task seemed simple enough, wander through the dark and find their sensei. Traps were laid out for them, and other obstacles. Yu gave a nod as Takashi-sensei walked off and started the timer. Five minutes. Etsuko seemed to busy herself with writing things down. Yu couldn't see what she was writing and didn't have much interest in it, he had his own preparations to do. He set down the timer and began to write down a few things himself. Important things, like seals and kanji on notes. He spent a good three minutes finishing them up before he pulled out a few kunai and wrapped the paper around the handles. Yu had busied himself making some body switch seals, and two explosive tags. For the explosive tags he selected two kunai with larger rings at the bottoms. Once they were all finished he placed them along his tool belt, four body switch kunai, two explosive tag kunai. The alarm went up as he finished and he glanced over at the others. Etsuko seemed set on going off on her own and insulting Kama before she left. "Going off on your own isn't the best team work." Yu said. He looked over at Kama and considered their options. Etsuko's idea was good. Marking where they had come and gone with cones. But it relied on the idea that Takashi-sensei wasn't moving around or that the clones wouldn't be destroyed. It was too much of a risk in Yu's opinion. All it would take was one or two clones eliminated to send them running in circles for a few hours. He thought it best to move as a group, with the wolf up front to search by nose. Still, it was a bit late to go after her now, and he didn't think that Takashi had taken the far left tunnel. Turning toward the far right on nothing but a guess, Yu glanced back at Kama. "Maybe you or Kamui should go after her and give her some support." It wasn't exactly team work if they all separated to go do their own thing. That was working individually toward a common goal at best. Still, Yu didn't want to just wait around for the girl to realize this and return, he needed to start a search too. So he began to walk off down his own tunnel, hoping that Kama or Kamui followed but not worrying too much if they didn't. |

Listening to his Sensei's instructions. Kama stood there a little lost in thought as he heard Etsuko's words. She didn't say them loud enough for anyone to hear but he could still hear them clearly. "What is this girl's deal, really." He shook out his frustration and concentrated on the task at hand. Takashi-Sensei finished his explanation and tossed Yu what seemed to be a timer as he walked into the dark caverns. He looked at the other two to notice they were busy away with something. Seemed like they were preparing for their mission. Kama decided to do some preparing of his own, but realized he really didn't have anything to prepare. He let out a sigh of relief as the timer went off. Following the other two into the dark caverns they came to a spot with multiple directions. He sniffed the air to determine their sensei's trail, but it seemed he back tracked a lot, and his scent was in multiple places at once. It wouldn't be that hard to find him with him and Kamui working on it, but it seemed the others had another plan on how to find him. Before Kama could even give his ideas on Etsuko's plan she had already walked off. He looked back at Yu who knew what really needed to be done. Kama searched his brain for a plausible way to get around this and decided on something. He bent over to pet his wolf and said something to him. The wolf walked along where Yu went to back him up and to lead him through the darkness. "Yu, I'm letting you use Kamui, he'll help you out. He isn't that bad so he'll listen to you." Kama screamed out to Yu as he himself went chasing after Etsuko. Really, why would she make this a difficult task. He rushed past her clone and caught up to her. "Look, I know you wanted to do this your way but this is a team effort, we're not going to get far doing this on our own. So, I decided to help you." He talked looking straight ahead as he spoke. He didn't really want to look at her, he knew she would be mad about ruining her plan. Plus, he was a little mad at himself more, he had to make a sacrifice and separate with Kamui. They haven't really been separated for a task like this before, but Kamui should be fine. He told Kamui to listen to Yu and he will without much complaints. |

So Unohana was out on her own. Her plan to isolate herself from the group to get some unhindered information was working out swell until Kama decided to crash the party. She cringed at the very sound of his voice. That nasally pre-pubescent voice that would shatter glass without even a hint of resistance. That's how she interpreted the noise anyway. In a general sense of thought, splitting up would allow them to cover more ground a lot quicker. "It's not a solo mission, I know. We can cover more ground if we split up. It's your own thought of weakness that's preventing you from doing this." she responded, shaking her head in disappointment. There really wasn't much to say after that. The caves were getting darker the farther she ventured. Being unexplored to her, everything was new and potentially dangerous. There were, of course, the patrolling Chuunin Takashi warned them about. The urge to use her Sharingan bubbled inside her as the hitch of alertness kicked in with every step. An overly heightened sense of sound made her eyes wonder in the dark. The mysterious sounds manifesting images in her brain. The fear of what lurked in the dark settled. Tiny hands clenched in anticipation for a random lunge of an armed shinobi, or a springing of a deadly trap. It was rough trying to play the tough girl when you're put in such a situation. For her sake, she didn't display this in front of Kama. Hell, it's not like his vision was any better than hers. Deafening silence stalked her for the moment, Unohana was so wrapped into this zone that she had completely forgotten about Kama's unique abilities. "Where are you, Chuunin. Come out, come out." The Uchiha thought to herself, taking more cautious steps. Suddenly her body froze up, left foot paused in mid-step. A pile of sticks sat stacked in a messy fashion. Previous travelers? A used campfire? ..A trap? The identity behind it all was pondered, analyzed, and looked towards Kama for logical input. |

Takashi nearly groaned as his students started into the cave. Etsuko had confirmed his fears about her. Her dedication to the mission was admirable, but she seemed to think that her teammates were somehow beneath her, as if she didn't need them to complete the mission. It was a dangerous attitude - not only could it get her into trouble on the battlefield, it could put her companions' lives in jeopardy as well. "We'll definitely have to work on that," he mused, already going over the lecture he would have to give her when this was over. It wasn't that he was angry - her plan was sound, even if it did have a few problems, and her skills weren't in question - but he was training a team of ninjas, not just individuals. She might think her actions were justified, but part of teamwork was communication, and that was an area in which Etsuko seemed to be lacking. When Yu spoke, Takashi was pleased. The boy was a bit terse, and he needed to work on really making himself heard, but his focus seemed to be in the right place. Obviously Yu had been paying attention to Takashi's words - his focus on team dynamic was admirable. He might make a good leader someday if he could learn to speak up. "Need to work on his force of personality." It would take a strong, level-headed presence to counter Etsuko's individualism. He would have more than one speech for them after their mission was over. Kama seemed to fall somewhere between the two, focused on teamwork while still maintaining a strongly individual personality. His willingness to separate from his animal companion was interesting, and Takashi wondered if it was the wisest decision for them to split up at all, but at least he seemed to be trying to work together with both Yu and Etsuko as best he could, despite the obvious tension between Etsuko and himself. Still, even from his position of limited observation, he could tell that tensions between the three of them were going to run high. Hopefully, Takashi could get that out of their systems quickly, but if not, they might be in for a rude awakening when they actually got out into the real world, workign an actual mission. "Oh well," he thought with a sigh, reclining against one of the smooth walls of the cavern. "Nothing to do now but watch and wait, and hope things don't take a turn for the worse." He removed a kunai from one of thep ockets of his vest and started idly trimming his nails. He'd have plenty of warning when they got close. If they even managed to do so. |

Yu started down the dark tunnel. He didn't much like it, he couldn't take measurements in his head or do any kind of serious calculations. When he couldn't see properly, all the numbers just became variables. It wasn't that he couldn't work without any solid information, it just made him feel somewhat vulnerable. Then again the darkness wasn't a total negative. Darkness didn't guarantee an advantage for the enemy, though if anyone else in the tunnels had a way to see in the dark it certainly didn't help him at all. Yu felt the side of the wall next to him, making sure he wasn't passing by any turns. Then the soft trot behind him. He tensed up and reached for one of his kunai. After a moment he recognized it as Kama's pet. Kamui the wolf. He was relieved that Kama had listened to him and sent someone after him, that would certainly help if he ran into any trouble. Then came Kama's voice from the darkness. "Yu, I'm letting you use Kamui, he'll help you out. He isn't that bad so he'll listen to you." Yu blinked a few times, the darkness seemed a little brighter. He was always looking through the shadows of his hood, his eyes seemed to naturally adjust a bit faster than others. Still, with such little light it would seriously affect how well he could move. He glanced at Kamui, and considered smiling. He decided a mental grin was enough and gave a small nod to the wolf as he turned and continued one. Kama seemed reliable enough, at least in these kinds of situations. Etsuko seemed a bit too determined, but it wasn't a bad thing Yu guessed. He didn't want to judge his new team harshly, Etsuko's dedication could prove very useful in tough times. Yu began to think about the current times, how to locate Takashi or the others. True he had agreed to split up, but joining together would be good to. If he ran into Etsuko and Kama later on in the cave he would be sure to suggest sticking together. Then he had a thought. Simple really, sticking together. Team work involved knowing where your team was. If Takashi was keeping tabs on them then he might have people or devices around to help in that task. And if someone was reporting to him on them, or he had some decive to do so, then that meant there was a line right to him. Yu glanced at Kamui. "Kamui, would you please take the lead. I would like you to pick up the first human scent you can and lead me to it. It doesn't matter if it is Takashi-sensei or not." If Yu was right, even without this test there should be some ninja in these caves. If they ran all throughout the fire country it would be too big of a risk to not guard them. That meant there were people with maps or at least information that Yu could use. If they were aware of Takashi-sensei's test then Yu could try to persuade them to help. He hoped this would be the peaceful kind of persuasion. If Kamui found Takashi that would be nice, but Yu didn't really expect that to happen, and if he found Etsuko and Kama then that would be even better. No matter who Kamui found it would play out in Yu's favor, at least Yu hoped so. Edited by Nosumo, Oct 5 2009, 01:02 AM.
