Role-Playing Guide This is a guide for all Role-Players. Read what you wish. Skip what you wish. CONTENTS Chapter 1: The Basics Chapter 2: Character Making - Part 1: Basics - Part 2: Using Your Character Chapter 3: The Story - Part 1: Drifting - Part 2: Cleaning Up - Part 3: The First Post - Part 4: Posting - Part 5: Timing - Part 6: Sequels Comments And Suggestions Other Chapter 1: The Basics You can’t Role-Play without knowing the basics, can you? Here are the basics of Role-Playing.
That’s the basics. Follow them. Chapter 2: Character Making Part 1: Basics When you want to join an RP, you will have to make a character. Most Role-Plays will have a template for you to fill out. Example:
You will most likely have to post that filled out in your first post. If it’s accepted, you can start Role-Playing. While making your character, fill out everything with as much detail possible. Part 2: Using Your Character It seems that many people stop using their character correctly as time goes on. Example: a serious character may begin to joke around, etc. Unacceptable. The only time it’s not unacceptable is if there is a time skip... A big time skip. Let’s say the time skip is a week, your character won’t go through any major changes. But if it’s a two year time skip, they could completely change. Chapter 3: The Story Part 1: Drifting Drifting is when a Role-Play wanders from its original plot. To keep a Role-Play from drifting, the creator must post in it. If it goes on without them, people will have no idea what exactly it is they are supposed to be doing. Part 2: Cleaning up Often times it is left up to the leader of the Role-Play to fill in holes and clean up messes that other players leave behind. Here are some quick tips:
Part 3: The First Post You only need to read this when creating a Role-Play. In this post, you need to explain the story. Everything you need to know. The story, setting, time period, etc. Try to make it catch other people’s attention in any way you can. Images and Logos. Using an image or logo for your Role-Play in your first post is a good and fun way to catch someone’s attention. If you have one, people might think you spent more time making the Role-Play and assume it’s more detailed, well-written, and overall better than others. Titles. When you start a Role-Play, you need to think of a title that will reflect what the Role-Play is about and look good at the same time. A Role-Play called "Monsters" isn't going to get that many people in it either. So how do you spice up the title? Write the introduction first! Once you've finished with you're introductory post, go back and read over it and try to pick out a phrase or word that just sticks out. Part 4: Posting Post what your character does. But remember, no double posting. Try to go into detail while posting. People take turns posting. During a post, your character can move around, fight, talk, etc. Just remember: No god-modding! Part 5: Timing Timing is the times at which you place certain events in the story, and how those events are relative to other events. For some reason, most of us think that Role-Plays are all about action. There should be no parts explaining why characters do what they do except for character profiles, and there shouldn't be any let up in the action. Now all of those fights scenes, one after another, are events. What are they doing, being right next to each other, with nothing reasonably describing what happens in between? They are rushing. Rushing is what timing is all about. You don't want to rush events; you want them to ease into each other naturally. If you rush, your Role-Play will seem very sloppy, and you don't want that, do you? Part 6: Sequels If a Role-Play is a big hit, the creator might want to make a sequel for it. If you were part of a Role-Play that was a big hit and the creator just posted a sequel. It doesn’t mean you have to join, but if you do, I would post my original character profile. Then edit it to show what happens in between, their new appearance, etc. ________________________________ Comments And Suggestions If you have any comments and/or suggestions for this guide, PM them to a Global Moderator or Administrator. ________________________________ Any staff member is free to edit this if they see fit.
