Death Note: Z-Kira is being written by both Kuru and Cwing. Just like Suke and Chaos do for Soul Stone Quest, Chaoswing and I will be switching off on each chapter for this. :o If you don't know what Death Note is, then you're a noob and you should check it out. I'll post links to the appearances of characters that appear in the anime/manga, but not for our made up characters. Light Yagami/Kira: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c385/nickcookies/Used%20Pictures/light.jpg Ryuk: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c385/nickcookies/Used%20Pictures/ryuk.jpg Near/Nate River/L: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c385/nickcookies/Used%20Pictures/Near.jpg Touta Matsuda: http://photobucket.com/image/matsuda/Ren14_2007/Dn_matsuda.jpg?o=6 Kanzo Mogi: http://photobucket.com/image/mogi/gamer_09/DEATH%20NOTE/mogi.gif?o=3 Halle Bullock/Halle Lidner: http://photobucket.com/image/halle%20lidner/OnigiriY3K/Cute-Female/1183159052232.jpg?o=1 Also, Death Note: Z-Kira is written based on the times in the manga rather than the anime. The anime takes place 3 years later than the manga. For example, in the manga, Light dies on January 28th, 2010, but in the anime, he dies on January 28, 2013. Chapter 1: Gift Written by Kururugi Chapter 2: A War Needs Two Sides Written by Chaoswing Chapter 3: Apples Written by Kururugi Chapter 4: Dreaming Written by Chaoswing Chapter 5: Murderous Written by Kururugi Chapter 6: First Door on the Left Written by Chaoswing Chapter 7: A New Savior Emerges Written by Kururugi Chapter 8: React Written by Chaoswing Chapter 1: Gift January 27th, 2010 “In just a few hours, we will meet with Near and put an end to our little struggle.” Light Yagami was lying in the bed at his apartment. His arms were crossed and he was staring towards the ceiling. The Shinigami Ryuk was sitting in a chair off to the side of the room. “Has all of this been interesting to you, Ryuk?” “Yeah.” “What would you say if I told you we could make it last longer?” Ryuk bolted up from his seat. “How?!” Light turned his head slightly so he could see Ryuk. “In case something goes wrong tomorrow and Near proves that I am Kira, I will beg for you to help me. I will ask you to kill everyone else in the room. You will instead kill me.” Ryuk had a confused look in his face. “I don’t see how that’s gonna keep me entertained any longer...” “After I’m dead, you will return to the Shinigami world for five human years. After those five years have gone by, you will return to the human world and give the Death Note you killed me with to a man just like me... I’m sure you’ll be able to trick the Shinigami king to get another notebook again anyway. If you do this for me, I promise you’ll have more fun later. You’ll get to eat more apples too...” Ryuk’s confusion disappeared completely. “I see... Do you have any preference on who this man should be?” Light grinned. “Give it to...Atsushi Iino...” ========================= May 3rd, 2015 Atsushi stared out the window, looking down towards what appeared to be a fight. No, it was a cruel misuse of strength. The person on the receiving end of the punches was much smaller than his opponent. Why isn’t anyone helping that kid...? Atsushi was on the second floor of a building at Touou University. His seat was next to the window, so he could easily look outside. Instead of helping the poor guy, everyone just stands idly by and watches... Doesn’t anyone down there have a sense of justice? Atsushi stood up from his seat. “Mr. Otomo, may I use the restroom?” “Certainly, Atsushi.” Atsushi calmly walked out of the classroom, shutting the door behind. Once he was sure no one could see him, he jolted downstairs and outside. I’ll help him myself if I have to... Atsushi had long blonde hair that reached past his shoulders by about two inches. On the front, his hair completely covers his forehead and his pushed to the side to prevent it from covering his eyes. He was wearing a brown sweatshirt and baggy blue jeans. Atsushi was 21 years old and a junior at Touou University. To the other students, he was known to be an idiotic pervert who fought those picking on others. To the staff, he was known to be a brilliant student but also a troublemaker. Atsushi pushed and shoved his way into the crowd of students surrounding the fight. Finally managing to break through, he quickly punched the larger student in the side of the face. The student was knocked into the crowd and disappeared for a short time, until he emerged from the giant mass of students enjoying the fight. He was holding the left side of his face and began to talk with a muffled voice. “Atsushi, shouldn’t you be in class?” “I took a bathroom trip. Did you honestly think I was gonna sit in class and let you bully others? You should have learned your lesson by now, Kazumasa.” Kazumasa grunted and removed his hand from his face. “You should learn to mind your own business.” “When someone oppresses others, I make it my business. Now, I don’t really want to hurt you again, Kazumasa, so I think it would be best if you left now.” Kazumasa groaned and then threw a sudden punch towards Atsushi’s face. The punch was easily avoided and Atsushi retaliated by hitting Kazumasa in the stomach with his knee. Kazumasa went down. By this time, Mr. Otomo had seen the fight taking place out of the window and made his way downstairs. He successfully broke up the crowd just in time to see Atsushi take Kazumasa out in one blow. Mr. Otomo dragged both Atsushi and Kazumasa away. ========================= Suspended for 3 days again... Atsushi entered his room, shutting the door and locking it behind him. He grabbed a magazine he had hidden in his closet and sat down on his bed. The cover of the magazine had a picture of a nude woman with bunny ears on it. Atsushi opened the magazine and was admiring all the pictures when a black object flew through his window and hit him in the face. Atsushi tossed his magazine aside and grabbed the black object. He stuck his head out the window and began to yell. “Damn it all, stop throwing stuff in-!” Atsushi stopped yelling, for he didn’t see anyone outside. “Must have run off...” he murmured to himself. Atsushi sat back down on his bed and took a look at the object that flew in through the window for the first time. It appeared to be a notebook. “Death Note...” Atsushi said quietly to himself as he read the words written on the top of the cover. Atsushi put the notebook down and turned around, planning to leave the room and get a snack. “Gah!” Blocking the doorway, was a monster about eight feet tall. It was human-like, but had major differences. It’s skin was blue and it had large yellow eyes above a somewhat frightening looking nose and a large mouth with sharp teeth. It was wearing dark blue clothing. “Hi there. I’m Ryuk,” the monster began. “Atsushi Iino, you now have, in your possession, a Death Note.” “A Death Note...? Oh, yeah. So it was you that just threw it in here...” “Now, listen up. I don’t like saying the same thing twice,” Ryuk explained, “I am a Shinigami, or God of death. As long as you have that Death Note, I will be following you around. Only those who touch the Death Note can see or hear me.” Atsushi laughed softly. “So, you’re gonna be like my pet?” Ryuk frowned. “No. Let me finish explaining first before you ask questions.” Atsushi crossed his arms. “Fine.” “The person whose name you write in the Death Note will die. You must imagine the face of that person as you write their name so people with the same name aren’t affected. Details of the person’s death should be written after you write someone’s name. If the cause of death is not written, the person will die of a heart attack. The Death Note has 60 pages. Each page has 38 lines. If you run out of room in your Death Note, you can ask the Shinigami accompanying you for a new one.” Atsushi let loose a soft smile and laughed quietly. “This can’t be real...” “I’m real, so the Death Note must be real,” Ryuk replied. “If you don’t want the Death Note, you can give it to me or to someone else. If that’s the case, I will erase your memory of it.” “Erase my memory? How can you do that?” “That’s a Shinigami secret. But you should know, that when you die, I will be writing your name in my Death Note,” Ryuk stated, pointing to the Death Note that was attached to his hip. “Any questions?” “I still don’t believe that this notebook will kill whoever’s name is written down...” “Then why don’t you test it?” Ryuk suggested. Atsushi stood up and walked over to the desk in his room. He grabbed a pen from the drawer and sat down in the wooden chair beside the desk. “Before I write, I want to know something. If I do use this thing, are there any consequences? Will it shorten my life or anything?” “No, but if you use it, you won’t be going to Heaven or Hell once you die.” “Where will I go?” “You’ll just have to wait and find out.” Atsushi glared at Ryuk momentarily, until Ryuk began to speak once again. “We Shinigami write down human’s names to increase our own lifespans. For example, if we killed a 20 year old guy who was supposed to die at age 80, we would add 60 years to our own life. In this way, we can live forever. We usually just choose people at random by looking down here from the Shinigami world.” “The Shinigami world? Where’s that? Behind Mars or something?” “That doesn’t matter...” “Hmm... but wait... You kill people just by looking at them... How do you know their name?” “The eyes of a Shinigami show the name and lifespan of whoever we see. I can see yours right now. Of course, I’m not going to tell you how long you have to live. Also, there is a deal we can make...” Atsushi crossed his legs and put his hands in his laps. This is actually interesting... “I can give you Shinigami eyes, so that you can see the name and lifespan of whomever you see, in exchange for half of your own lifespan.” “Half of my life? I don’t think that’s worth it,” Atsushi said, spinning his pen with his fingers. “Can I make that deal with you any time or does it have to be now?” “You can make the deal with me at any time.” “I see. Well then, I won’t be making that deal with you unless I find myself in a situation where I have to use the Shinigami eyes to get out.” Atsushi spun his chair around and opened it to the first clean page in the Death Note. “Looks like you’ve killed quite a few people with this Death Note, Ryuk.” “Yes, I have,” Ryuk replied. “I have one more question. Why did you choose me to be the owner of the Death Note?” “I didn’t choose you,” Ryuk answered. “It was the previous owner of one of my Death Notes that chose you.” Atsushi wrote “Kazumasa Takigawa” into the Death Note, followed by a cause of death. If this thing really works, then I bet this is what Light, Kira, used to kill people. I wonder if he’s the one that wanted me to have this thing... “If this thing really works, then Kazumasa Takigawa will die in 10 minutes. He will run around in a circle six times and then bite off his fingers. Then, he will beat himself to death with a chair. People will think he went insane or something. I doubt anyone will be able to connect his death with me.” Ryuk smiled. “That’s a strange way to kill someone... Humans are so fun! Tell me, though. Who is this Kazumasa guy anyway?” “He’s a student at the college I go to. He’s a bully, always picking on those weaker than him.” Atsushi watched the clock anxiously. Let’s find out if this thing works... Edited by Kururugi, Jul 24 2008, 02:43 PM.

Chapter 2: A War Needs Two Sides May 4, 2015 Taiki Yoshida was sitting on the couch in his home, his legs crossed on the table in front of him. At the moment, he was watching the news, though none of it seemed particularly interesting. Okay, fine, so there were a few murders here and there, some other crimes. That was nothing new since Kira’s disappearance. Just as he was about to reach for the inconveniently out of reach remote, his cell phone rang. “What?” A common way phone conversations with Taiki began. The man on the other line could hear Taiki’s TV going. “…the unusual suicide of Kazumasa Takigawa.” “Never mind. Just watch the current news story and then get your ass over there.” Taiki snapped the phone shut, and focused his attention on the TV. “According to an eyewitness, Kazumasa Takigawa, a student of Touou University, apparently went insane. He ran around in several circles, bit off his own fingers, and then beat himself to death with a chair. Due to the...circumstances of his death, NPA officers are beginning investigate. We have yet to receive any information on whether this was truly a simple suicide or not.” “So he went crazy. Big fucking deal.” Taiki stood up with a sigh, and headed off for the home of the late Mr. Takigawa, the location of his suicide. ========================= “So explain to me again what happened here,” Taiki said. He worked as an investigator for NPA. He was extremely intelligent, and had helped solve many post-Kira cases. In fact, those who knew of him believed he was second only to L himself. For that very reason, Taiki always worked under an alias. This particular man Taiki asked had never seen him before, and immediately noticed his distinctive appearance. His somewhat shaggy black hair fell just to his eye level, and halfway down his neck in the back. His ears, which came through the hair around them, both had 3 silver earrings hanging from them. He had some sort of black band around his neck, and was wearing three shirts. A black t-shirt on the bottom; an unbuttoned, white collared shirt on top of that; and finally, a black jacket on the top. Of course, he was wearing black pants to go with it all. However, the most striking feature was the shadow his hair cast over his eyes. It gave him a very sinister look. “Do I have to repeat myself?” “S-sorry,” the NPA officer stuttered. Something about Taiki made him nervous. “Mr. Takigawa ran in exactly six circles, bit off his own fingers, then beat himself to death with a chair. Short of mind control, it seems to me that he went insane.” “Not that I asked for your opinion or anything.” This had sparked something in Taiki’s memory, though. Kira could control his victims, right? No…what am I thinking; this is just me wishing I could’ve assisted in that case. “Alright,” Taiki said, “I’m gonna go talk to some of his classmates, and if I don’t hear anything suspicious, we can call this one a suicide due to insanity.” ========================= It was clearly not a class time at Touou University, as many of the students were walking outside, either headed to their next class or leaving the school. Taiki walked up to the first student he saw—a girl—while showing her his ID (which, of course, showed his alias, Luke) “No last name?” The girl asked him, clearly only interested and not questioning the ID. “I prefer to use an alias,” Taiki said. “However, I assume you don’t.” “I’m Ichi,” she said, smiling. Ichi had long pink hair which reached down to the middle of her back. The front was cut shorter—chin length—and was pushed out of her face. She was wearing a gray shirt with a winged heart on the front, and similarly colored pants. Her bright blue eyes caught Taiki’s attention as well. “Well, I wanted to ask if you knew anything about Kazumasa’s death,” Taiki said, apparently choosing not to be rude when the person he was speaking to was a beautiful girl. “Oh…” Ichi frowned. She wanted to be helpful. “I don’t really know much more than what I’ve heard on the news. Why? Do you think it wasn’t a suicide?” “That’s…a possibility.” “In that case,” she said, “I know he was known to...hurt…people smaller than him. And yesterday Atsushi Iino got in a fight with him because of it.” “Do you know where I could find this Atsushi?” Taiki said. “Actually, he’s not here today. He got suspended for that fight. If you really need to talk to him, though, I know where he lives.” And she gave him the address. ========================= Taiki had asked several other students if they knew anything, but the only useful information he received had just been a repeat of what Ichi said, so he decided to give Atsushi a visit. His thoughts again shifted to the similarities to the Kira case. So Kazumasa was a bully…No, I have to stop thinking Kira. No matter how many times he told himself, something just seemed wrong. Not only had Kazumasa followed a sort of…sequence of steps, but he had just suddenly gone insane and killed himself for no reason? No, it couldn’t be right, but there was just no way someone other than Kira could have manipulated him to that extent. Taiki suddenly realized he’d reached the address Ichi had given him, and pulled up to the house. He went to the front door and knocked, and a woman opened the door—Taiki assumed she was Atsushi’s mother, judging by the age she appeared to be. “Does Atsushi Iino live here?” “Yes,” the woman answered. “He’s not home right now though. What’s your name? I could tell him you were asking for him.” “I’m with the NPA.” Taiki showed her his badge. “Don’t bother trying to contact me when he returns—I’ll come back this time tomorrow. Make sure he’s home then.” He then heard another voice call from the back. “Mom? Who’s at the door?” A younger woman came into view—Atsushi’s sister possibly? Her black hair was styled similarly to Ichi’s, and she was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. “Whoa. Who’s that? A friend of Atsushi’s?” “I’m an investigator for NPA.” “Since when are police so cute?” she said, smiling at Taiki. He ignored her. “Like I said, I’ll be back here this time tomorrow,” he said, and walked back to the car. That annoying girl had better not be home tomorrow… ========================= May 5, 2015 “…However, it seems that many of the students don’t care that he’s gone. ‘Kazumasa beat up several people while he was here. He got what he deserved.’ ‘All I have to say is, Atsushi shouldn’t be suspended.’ ” Taiki suddenly woke, and groaned. “Left the Goddamn TV on again…” He decided he’d go and have fun the rest of the day, until he had to go talk to Atsushi Iino. It wasn’t like he had anything else he could investigate about the case, so he didn’t feel the need to do any work. Taiki finally came to the door of the Iino house again, and knocked. This time someone new opened the door—a boy, and he appeared to be close to Taiki’s age. “I work for the NPA, and came by here yesterday. Are you Atsushi Iino?” “Yeah.” |

Chapter 3: Apples I was expecting the NPA to come. But this guy doesn’t look like an investigator at all... “No offense, but you don’t look like an investigator to me. Do you have any form of ID?” Atsushi asked, scratching the back of his head. “Of course,” Taiki answered, flashing his badge. Ryuk began laughing when he read the name on the badge. Luke? He’s Japanese, yet his name is English...and no last name? “Do you know anything about the death of Kazumasa Takigawa?” Taiki asked, putting away his badge. “Only what I’ve been able to pick up on the news. Please, come inside and sit down,” Atsushi replied, opening the door fully. Taiki walked inside and sat down on a couch in the living room and set his feet on the coffee table in front of the couch. “I was told that you had recently been in a fight with Kazumasa and that he died the very same day. That makes you a prime suspect, you know,” Taiki explained, stretching his arms and yawning afterwards. Atsushi frowned slightly. “I’m a suspect in a guy’s suicide? How does that work?” “Just because he killed himself doesn’t mean it’s a suicide.” Atsushi sat down in a wooden chair that was next to the couch. “Cause that makes sense...” Taiki stood up and walked over to the door, opening it. “Does the name ‘Kira’ ring a bell?” Taiki then proceeded to leave the house and shut the door. Once he reached his car and opened the door, he glanced back towards the house and through a window, intending to see Atsushi’s reaction. He saw Atsushi getting up out of his chair and walk out of sight. After Atsushi was out of sight, Taiki drove away. Atsushi walked upstairs and entered his room, locking the door behind him. “Ryuk, don’t ever laugh again. You gave me a headache.” Ryuk was too busy enjoying an apple to notice Atsushi’s comment. “You sure do love those apples, don’t you, Ryuk?” “Hm? Oh, yes. Yes, I do,” Ryuk stated, with his mouth full. “These apples are to me like what cigarettes and alcohol are to humans.” “...Really?” Atsushi sat down on his bed, tossing another apple to Ryuk, who had completely finished the one he was eating. I think I’ll use that to my advantage later... Atsushi grabbed the Death Note, which was under his bed, and began looking at the victims Ryuk had killed, out of boredom. One particular name caught his attention. “Ryuk, did you know Light Yagami?” “Yeah,” Ryuk replied, still chewing on his apple. Atsushi closed the Death Note and tossed it onto his desk. So, Kira used a Death Note to kill...and now I have the power to continue what Kira started... “I’ve decided that I’m going to continue what Light started. I’m going to purify this world...” “Oh?” “But, I’m guessing that the NPA already know of the Death Note and its powers...and if I start killing now, it would almost be like announcing to the NPA that Atsushi Iino is the one killing. I’m gonna have to wait a while before I start...” Atsushi sighed. “I’m gonna have to be very careful with this whole thing... Shouldn’t have killed Kazumasa... I was just too anxious to try out the Death Note. I didn’t think it through... Damn... I-“ “Hey, I forgot to tell you about this earlier,” Ryuk interrupted, holding out what looked like a half black and half white eraser. “This is the Death Eraser. You can erase Kazumasa’s name with it and he’ll come back to life.” Atsushi took the eraser from Kazumasa and held it in front of him. “He’ll come back to life? That would probably just complicate matters. Besides, living without any fingers could prove tough...” Atsushi sat in deep though for a couple of minutes. “Even if I wait a while before I kill anyone else, I bet I would be a prime suspect...at least to that NPA officer that visited me... Luke, was it? That name is obviously fake. It’s kinda funny...” Atsushi chuckled quietly. “If I find out I’m being secretly watched by an NPA officer, I’ll just act like an idiotic pervert like I do in public... Surely, they’ll think I’m too dumb to hold Kira’s responsibilities...” “I’m interested in seeing how you’ll pull through. You’re situation seems to be worse than Light’s was... Speaking of which, how is it that you knew Light? In the 6 years I was with him, I never once saw you.” “Before his disappearance, I did my own investigation to find out who Kira was. I discovered it was Light Yagami. I gave him a call one day. Well, actually, I had to try and call him several times. Most of the time an annoying girl would pick up and tell me he wasn’t home.” Atsushi smiled while he was recollecting this fact. He was proud of what he accomplished. “He probably never thought that someone other than an NPA officer would try to figure out who he was...” “Now that you mention it, I do remember Light turning completely pale while talking on the phone one day... Could that have possibly been you on the other side?” “Probably,” Atsushi said, grabbing the remote to his TV and turning it on. Someone began knocking on the door to Atsushi’s room. “...Why do you have your door locked?” “Go away, Amaya. I’m busy.” “Busy with what? Don’t tell me you’re...” Amaya became quiet momentarily and then let out an ear-piercing shriek. “EW! You’re disgusting!” She ran back down the stairs quickly. Ryuk began laughing, loudly. “...” Atsushi rested his head with his hand and sighed. “So annoying...” “Then why don’t you just kill her?” “...Ryuk, shut up.” Ryuk gave Atsushi a blank stare. “You know, you’re not very nice to me...” “I’m nice enough to feed you apples.” “...Well...Err...yeah...” Atsushi’s cell phone began to ring. The Caller ID said “Ichi Yamamoto.” “What’s shakin, girl?” Atsushi asked, answering the call. “Hey, I was just wondering how your meeting with that NPA officer went.” “The guy thinks I killed Kazumasa...” “But it was a suicide!” “I know... I think that guy has a problem with me for some reason... But wait, how did you know he met with me?” Atsushi questioned, now resting his head on the pillows on his bed. “Oh, well, you see...I sort of...gave him your address. I’m sorry.” “Don’t be sorry. You did the right thing.” Atsushi moved his phone to his other ear. “Well, I’ve got to go. I’m going shopping with some friends.” “Alright. Talk to ya later.” Atsushi put his phone down next to him and continued to lie in bed. “I’m sure that many people around the world will support me from the get-go. They will kill anyone that goes against me. That could prove useful...” Atsushi got up off his bed and walked over to his desk, grabbing the Death Note. “I don’t really have a good place to hide this thing... But then again, I don’t need a great place to hide it right now...” Atsushi slid the Death Note under his bed and left his room, with Ryuk following. Once downstairs, Atsushi grabbed an apple from the refrigerator and left the house. Once Atsushi was sure that no one else was around, he tossed the apple backwards, towards Ryuk. Ryuk caught the apple and began eating it as if he was starving. “I’m gonna wait a month to start killing... I hope that will be enough time... But, in the meantime, I guess I can begin plotting...” |

Chapter 4: Dreaming May 6, 2015 “Well,” the voice coming from the computer said. “I have to agree. There is no way that Mr. Takigawa’s death was a normal suicide. However, I have already told you, Kira died five years ago.” “I’m not stupid,” Taiki said to the computer screen, which had the letter “L” on it in a fancy font. “I’ve heard things about the Kira case from the others here. There were several people with Kira’s abilities. Who’s to say there aren’t more now?” “We destroyed all of the D—” He paused. “Believe me, Kira is gone.” Destroyed what? Taiki thought. L had obviously been about to reveal something that was being kept secret about the Kira case. Something that makes him confident that Kira is gone. He decided it was better to not ask L directly. “Then what are you saying happened to Kazumasa Takigawa?” “That is why I wish to assist you with this investigation, Luke. Hmm…don’t bother getting anyone other than the two of us involved though; they’ll just get in the way.” The connection was cut off. “And yet he hides something from me. Not that it matters, I could solve this just as easily without him.” ========================= May 8, 2015 “Dammit,” Taiki breathed. What was I thinking? He’ll probably just tell them as soon as I’ve left. It had been easy enough to locate L’s headquarters. L—who Taiki had by now figured out was not the original, but someone called Near—wasn’t too worried about hiding it. The hard part had been getting in. In place of hiding the location of the headquarters, the building always had at least one guard outside. Taiki had carefully observed the guards standing outside the building the previous day. There was always anywhere from one to three guards standing outside, depending on the time of day, Taiki assumed. The obvious choice was night, when just one man stood guard, and no one else was inside. Taiki had waited for at least an hour trying to find a way to get in. Several different plans had come to mind. He could look for another way in, but even if there was one, L was smart enough to keep it guarded. Taiki was sure the guard had been well trained, so sneaking past him was already out of the question. He could kill the guard—it was something Taiki had done before, and they’d never come close to catching him—but, no, then it would be obvious someone had been inside. Then Taiki noticed something he hadn’t seen before. The guard seemed to be shifting positions constantly, and was watching far more vigilantly that Taiki thought necessary. The guard was nervous, so he must have been new to the job. It would have been impossible with someone more experienced, but Taiki decided to use bribery to get past this guard. He managed to get in, even if he was a thousand dollars short. He was now in L’s headquarters, placing hidden cameras in various spots in an attempt to discover what was being hidden from him. He didn’t need L’s help, not directly at least. If L wouldn’t tell Taiki what he needed to know about the Kira case, then he would just have to find out for himself. He knew it was perfectly possible for the guard to inform L the moment he was gone. However, Taiki was sure that being able to watch L would be to his benefit, and was worth the risk. He left hurriedly, and went straight home to sleep. ========================= Taiki found himself standing in an old abandoned building. He’d been in this place before; it had been his “home” before he became an NPA officer. There were two people there with him. One was a boy just a little younger than Taiki, who had long purple hair which disappeared into the large collar of his long black coat. His coat was buckled in three spots on the left side. The boy was also wearing black pants, black gloves, and black shoes. “You can’t just leave us!” he said. “You’ll be fine, Yuji,” Taiki replied. “Anyway, I can help you two. I can lead cops away from you. Up to this point we’ve always been able to get away because of me, but sooner or later one of you two will make a mistake. Now that will never be a problem.” “But then you won’t be with us when you help,” the other one, a girl, said. She had messy brown hair, and was wearing significantly less black than the other two. She had a white shirt, which had no sleeves and was held up just by straps. This shirt also had brown lace at the edges, and over it was a golden-brown shirt which was open in the front. She also had on blue jeans, and sandals. Taiki had no excuse this time, and stayed silent. He never would have thought that his friends would be so strongly against his taking a job at NPA. All the time he’d spent with these two had given him the perfect skills for the job. For the very same reason that he knew how to get away with any crime, he would also be a very skilled investigator. Already a few of the officers had compared him to L, though they of course did not know of the crimes Taiki had already committed. “Got nothing else to say?” Yuji asked. “Well, Aeryn’s right, but…” Taiki was unsure what to say. “I just have a feeling this will work out to our advantage in the end.” “Your advantage maybe,” Yuji said. “You’re just gonna abandon us two.” “You know I wouldn’t do that. I’ll still be here to help you when you need it.” “Bullshit! You’ll forget about us and probably become obsessed with stupid stuff like ‘justice.’” Now Taiki was just getting mad at him. “Why can’t you just see that I’m doing this to help you?!” The two of them began yelling at each other, and neither could be heard over the other’s voice. “STOP IT!” Aeryn suddenly screamed, and everything went silent. She seemed about to cry. Yuji glared at Taiki. “When you realize that you’re making a mistake, we’ll be waiting for you.” He and Aeryn walked off, leaving Taiki alone. Taiki woke from his dream, sitting up quickly. It had just been a dream, but…it was something that had really happened. “Aeryn and Yuji…” Why had he been dreaming about them? He hadn’t seen them in at least five years. It’s not like they wanted him back anyway. When you realize that you’re making a mistake, we’ll be waiting for you. Was there a reason for this dream? Was it some kind of sign? |

Chapter 5: Murderous June 7th, 2015 Atsushi glared at Ryuk, who had just defeated him 3 times in a row at Battleship. He stood up, and walked over to his desk, turning on the computer and sitting down in a chair. “Come on, Atsushi! Just one more game!” “I’m not playing that game with you again for quite a while,” Atsushi stated bleakly. “It’s no fun when I can’t even come close to winning.” “I’ll take it easy on you this time!” “Forget it.” “Oh, please!” Ryuk begged, getting down on his knees. “One more game!” “No. We’re the only ones here at the moment, so go downstairs and grab an apple or something.” Ryuk growled and stood up and began walking towards the wall nearest to the door out of the room. “Fine,” he said, walking through the wall. Atsushi opened a drawer and pulled out the Death Note, opening it and placing it down on the desk in front of him. Bringing up the internet on the computer, he began searching for the names of criminals. I haven’t killed anyone since Kazumasa died over a month ago. I guess it’s time I start... Atsushi grabbed a pen after finding a website with lists of criminals. He clicked on a name at random, which brought up some more information on the person, including their name, face, and crimes they have committed. Ryuk re-entered the room, carrying five apples. Seeing the Death Note out, he literally jumped with joy. “Finally using the Death Note?” he asked. “Yes,” Atsushi said, spinning around in his chair to face Ryuk. “School gets out in a few days and if I wait till summer, they might assume that a student is the one who’s killing people.” “Makes sense,” Ryuk stated, taking a bite out of an apple. “Ryuk,” Atsushi said after a few moments of silence. “I thought I said to get one apple, not five...” Ryuk’s face saddened and he put the apples down onto Atsushi’s desk. “I grabbed some for later.” Atsushi shook his head in disappointment and spun back around to face the computer. “This website says that this man, Nobuyuki Kakikazi, murdered both his wife and youngest daughter and attempted to kill his oldest daughter,” Atsushi said, pointing to the picture of the man on the screen. “It’s people like this that make me sick. This guy deserves to die.” Atsushi began writing in the Death Note. “He will die of a heart attack in 45 seconds.” Atsushi clicked on a different name, bringing up information on another criminal. “This one here was a drug dealer who murdered two cops before he was finally captured.” Atsushi wrote the name down. “And here’s one who robbed a bank in Tokyo, severely injuring 3 employees.” Atsushi wrote down many more names, until four pages were completely filled up with names. “Four pages in one day?” Ryuk asked. “Yes. I may even write more. I plan on making my existence known,” Atsushi explained. “The world will know that there is, once again, someone casting judgment on us humans.” Atsushi tried to hold in a laugh, but was forced to let it out. “I’m sure that by tomorrow, the world will be in a panic.” There was silence as Atsushi filled a fifth page with names. “Ryuk, I’ve got a job for you.” “What is it?” “I’d like you to go over to the NPA’s HQ and find out everything you can about what I’d need to hack into their database. Access Codes, passwords, anything.” “I’m not your servant,” Ryuk said, somewhat angrily. “I’ll buy you some fresh apples,” Atsushi offered, using his fingers to play with his pen. Ryuk groaned and ate one of the apples he placed on the desk earlier. “Fine, I’ll do it...for twenty apples.” “Deal,” Atsushi replied. “Write any information you find out on this,” Atsushi ordered, handing a piece of paper to Ryuk. “Now, get going.” Ryuk quickly left. “Wonderful,” Atsushi said to himself. “If I can get access to classified information, the NPA may believe that I’m one of them or related to one, at least.” ========================= Ryuk returned a few hours later. The piece of paper was completely filled up with various letters, numbers and words. Ryuk, looking exhausted, handed it to Atsushi. “Can I have those apples now?” “Not yet. Let me check to make sure this information works,” Atsushi answered, typing various things into the computer. “They’ve got a lot of security stuff, man,” Atsushi said, sighing. After ten minutes passed, Atsushi finally got access to what he was hoping for. “Excellent. Now all I have to do is kill some criminals that the public would have no knowledge of.” “Apples now?” Ryuk asked, obviously frustrated he hadn’t received his reward yet. “...Very well, I’ll buy you some apples.” Ryuk smiled. Atsushi reached into his pocket to see if he had his car keys. He pulled them out and the two left the room. Atsushi jumped into his car and started the engine. Ryuk sat in the passenger’s seat. Atsushi had a red sports car that appeared like it cost some serious money. It was a new car, with very few miles on it and absolutely no dirt spots. Atsushi bought it about 2 months earlier. He had originally been saving for an apartment, but he fell in love with the car and bought it instead. Upon arriving at the nearest grocery store, Atsushi proceeded to buy the twenty apples he promised Ryuk. “That’s a lot of apples,” the cashier said while Atsushi was paying. “They’re a gift for an apple-loving friend.” ========================= After getting back to Atsushi’s house, Atsushi sat back down by his computer while Ryuk sat on Atsushi’s bed, enjoying his apples. “Ryuk, if you don’t eat all of those apples today, you should hide them somewhere. People don’t need to see a pile of apples when they come into my room.” Ryuk heard Atsushi, but pretended to ignore him and continued to enjoy his apples. “Ryuk, did you hear me?” Atsushi asked, looking towards Ryuk with the corner of his eye. “Yeah, I heard you.” Atsushi clicked on various things, looking through the NPA’s classified information. One particular thing caught his interest. The screen showed a live video of what appeared to be a young man with messy white hair, who was sitting oddly in a hunched over position. He was playing with various toys and had a small laptop computer in front of him. Atsushi turned the volume on to see if anything was going on. “L, I’d like to congratulate and thank you on catching that dangerous serial killer last week,” a voice coming from the small computer said. “It was nothing you couldn’t have handled yourself,” the white-haired man replied. Atsushi eyes widened. “This couldn’t be L... He’s too young. L has been solving cases for years.” Atsushi watched L silently for a few minutes. “I guess it makes sense that the NPA is watching him, though. According to some of the information I saw earlier, they don’t exactly trust each other...” He cracked his knuckles and stared at his computer screen. “This is perfect. All I have to do is learn his name and I can kill him anytime.” Atsushi laughed quietly. “L, since you participated in the Kira case, I’m sure you’ll try to stop me as well.” Atsushi smiled. “Bring it on, L...” Edited by Kururugi, Jul 7 2008, 04:49 PM.

Chapter 6: First Door on the Left June 9, 2015 “What?!” Near said. “But how could that be possible?” “I don’t know,” another person, a woman, answered him. “It is clearly Kira that killed them though. Four hundred and two criminals, and they all died of heart attacks.” “No. It isn’t the original Kira that killed them. We all saw Light Yagami die, Lidner, but it still just doesn’t make sense. We destroyed the Death Notes.” Near confidence that destroying the Death Notes was the end of Kira confused Lidner. “That’s true, but isn’t it possible that a Death God dropped another notebook on Earth?” “You have a point. We’ll have to hope that’s the case because it will make solving this much easier. For now, Luke mentioned he had some kind of lead of Takigawa’s death. Try to figure out what that was, and I’ll have Lester and Gevanni investigate other suspects. I will inform the NPA that there is a new Kira, and that I will be assisting in the investigation.” ========================= “Yeah! It’ll be just like old times!” Touta Matsuda said. And, as usual, he was immediately reprimanded by Shuichi Aizawa. “The return of Kira is nothing to be excited about, Matsuda!” “Are you all right?” he asked, after glancing at Taiki. Taiki had suddenly gone pale, and his eyes were wide, staring at his computer screen. He quickly recovered himself, however. “Ah…yes, I’m fine.” Death Notes? Death God? This is obviously what Near had hidden from me, but…can it possibly be true? If they know I placed the cameras, he could just be feeding me false information… “This time we’ll have L and Luke,” Matsuda continued. “We’ll solve it in no time!” “No, I think I’d rather continue working on the case I have been.” The others were all obviously disappointed, but none of them wanted to try to convince Taiki otherwise. He then got up from his chair and walked outside. “So if Kira is back, that means that Atsushi really could have killed Kazumasa, assuming he’s the new Kira,” Taiki said to himself as he walked to his home, which wasn’t too far away from NPA headquarters. Yuji and Aeryn flashed through his mind. You’ll forget about us and probably become obsessed with stupid stuff like ‘justice.’ Taiki sighed. “He’s right. What good am I doing us by working for NPA? As far as I know, those two could be dead by now.” He walked in silence for a moment, thinking. “The Death Note must be what gives people Kira’s powers; that’s what makes destroying them the ultimate way to ensure Kira’s defeat. If I don’t say anything about Atsushi, and take the Death Note for myself…just imagine what we could do with that kind of power!” He looked up into the sky, picturing himself returning to his friends with a Death Note. Taiki was forced to end his reverie as he collided with another person. “Oh my God! I’m sorry!” a female voice said. Taiki stood up, and brushed himself off. “No, it’s my fault. I wasn’t paying attention.” “Well…are you okay?” “Yeah. I’m fine,” Taiki answered, just now looking at who it was he’d run into. He recognized her. It was… “Hey! I know you!” Amaya said. “You’re that NPA officer that was looking for Atsushi, right?” “Um…” I could lie and say no. Would she believe me? “Yeah, that was me.” Taiki watched as a smile appeared on her face. She opened her mouth to say something, but he cut her off. “I…uh…have to go,” he lied, and walked away, quickly disappearing among the other people on the sidewalk. He could only imagine the disappointed look that had taken the place of her smile. ========================= Taiki returned to the NPA headquarters, to see most of the others in a very active conversation. No doubt they were working on the Kira case. He was about to sit down at the computer and check what Near was doing when someone called out to him. “Hey, Luke!” Kanzo Mogi said. “L told us you knew something that might help us with the investigation.” “…Yeah,” Taiki replied, reluctantly. He didn’t want to say anything about Atsushi, but he knew he didn’t have a choice. “Now that it’s possible that Kazumasa Takigawa really was killed by Kira, I have a suspect for his killer. His name’s Atsushi Iino.” ========================= Aeryn calmly walked through the front doors of the bank, while Yuji waited outside. She wandered up to the nearest employee and asked, “Excuse me, but where could I find a bathroom?” The man pointed to a nearby hallway. “First door on the left.” “Thank you,” she said, and quickly headed for the door. The moment she got inside, she momentarily glanced around for cameras, then put on a mask and pulled out a gun. Aeryn took a deep breath, then stepped back out of the bathroom. She pulled the trigger once, using the burst of bullets to get everyone’s attention. As soon as Yuji heard the screams, he came in through the doors—already masked and armed—to cut off all of the people who would be trying to escape. “Where do you think you’re all going?” he said. When they stopped, he continued speaking. “Now get down on the ground.” Everyone hesitated, unsure what that would accomplish. “I said get on the fucking floor!” They listened this time. With the customers out of the way, Aeryn went up to the front desk, to take all of the money that the bankers had the power to access. Just then, sirens were heard in the distance. Already? both Aeryn and Yuji thought at the same time. And that wasn’t the worst of their luck. A few people had gotten up, inspired by the sounds of police arriving, and were running towards Yuji. “What did I just fucking say?” Aeryn pointed her gun at them. She really did not want to have to kill anyone, but protecting her friend was more important. However, she didn’t have to; Yuji beat her to it. The two of them then immediately ran out a back door, following a route they had planned in case of just such an emergency “Maybe Taiki was right,” Aeryn said when they’d both made it back to their abandoned building, earning herself a glare from Yuji. “One of us is going to make a mistake eventually.” She had no way of knowing Taiki would be the first to do so. Chapter 7: A New Savior Emerges June 10th, 2015 Atsushi smiled maliciously while staring at his computer screen. He was writing names in the Death Note, killing criminals that were mostly in North America, hoping that would lead investigators in search of Kira there instead of Japan. Ryuk watched Atsushi from behind with a bored expression on his face. Atsushi looked at the newspaper sitting to his right side on the desk. The news story on the cover was, of course, titled “The Return of Kira.” The story was a long one. It talked about many things, including how many people all over the world had already begun to support Kira, and how many television channels were already fighting about who would be Kira’s spokesperson. According to the article, many minor nations had already decided to surrender to Atsushi. Even the United States of America was considering neutrality due to their former president, David Hoope, being killed by the first Kira. Atsushi turned on his TV, where he witnessed the multiple television stations arguing. After watching the debate silently for about 15 minutes, Atsushi handed a large brown envelope to Ryuk. “Ryuk, I’ll reward you with 20 more apples if you deliver this to NHN for me,” Atsushi said, deciding that he wanted NHN to connect him with the world. NHN was one of the two channels that had spoken on behalf of the original Kira, the other being Sakura TV. “There is a letter and a video inside that envelope,” Atsushi began. “The letter explains that Kira sent the package and that I want the video to be aired. Make sure that nobody sees the envelope, though. I doubt people will ignore a floating envelope...” Atsushi was wearing a glove on his hand to prevent any fingerprints from getting on the envelope. He was wearing the glove when handling the video and the letter too. “Okay, I’ll take it,” Ryuk said, grabbing the envelope from Atsushi. “Have those apples ready for me when I get back.” “Fine,” Atsushi said, watching Ryuk sprout his black wings and walking through the wall. Atsushi tore out a page of the Death Note and folded it, placing it into a pocket in his wallet. He then hid the notebook under his bed, along with the glove that was on his hand. Man, I really need to find a better hiding spot... Atsushi shut the door to his room and went downstairs. He went into the garage and stood next to his car momentarily, but decided to walk instead, since the grocery store was only about a mile away. To get there, he would only have to walk one block down the road and through Sullen Park, which was reasonably named that due to the fact that one could walk through there any time of the year and find leaves on the ground, even though it wasn’t Autumn, giving the park a strange and gloomy atmosphere. The store would be right across the road on the other side of the park. While walking through Sullen Park, Atsushi saw a beautiful woman with long black hair, a white t-shirt, and a black skirt. She was sitting quietly on a bench, staring at the ground in front of her. The wind was blowing dead leaves all around her, which added to her already depressing aspect. Atsushi approached her carefully, stopping a few feet in front of where she was sitting. The woman, after seeing his feet, slowly looked up to look Atsushi in the eye. She remained quiet and simply stared, making Atsushi feel somewhat uncomfortable. After a few moments of silent staring, Atsushi began to speak. “Uh...You look sad, so I thought I’d come over here, see what was bothering you, and try and help if I can.” A few more moments of silent staring passed, until the woman began staring at the ground around Atsushi’s feet once again. “I don’t even know who you are,” she said. Her voice sounded weak and frail. “I thought people only shared their problems with friends...” Atsushi sat down on the bench next to her. “Some people say that it’s easier for someone to share their problems with a stranger than with a friend.” She turned her head to look Atsushi in the eye momentarily, and then went back to staring at the ground. “My father,” she began. “He killed both my mother and my sister and attempted to take my life as well...” She lifted her shirt up, revealing many scars on her stomach. “He stabbed and slashed at me, leaving me hospitalized until this morning...” She put her shirt back down and then suddenly burst into tears. She grabbed Atsushi and hugged him while crying onto his chest. Atsushi wrapped his arms around the woman, hoping that returning the hug would help calm her down. “Kira killed my father a few days ago,” she managed to say between sobs. ...The daughter of Nobuyuki Kakikazi? “Does that mean you are angry at Kira?” Atsushi asked. “No. I’m extremely thankful that Kira killed my father. I hated him for killing my mother and sister,” the woman replied, returning to the way she was sitting earlier, although she was still crying a little. “I see...” Atsushi said, getting up off the bench and standing up. “I’m sorry, but I’ve got to be going. Maybe we’ll see each other around.” “I’d like that,” the woman said, wiping some tears off of her face. Atsushi walked a few feet away, but stopped to say one more thing. “My name is Atsushi Iino, by the way.” “I’m Mei Kakikazi,” she said, trying to smile. Atsushi then waved goodbye, heading towards the grocery store at the other end of the park. So she is the daughter of Nobuyuki Kakikazi... ========================= Atsushi sat down on his bed and turned on the TV. Ryuk stood to the side of the bed, enjoying his apple reward. If NHN followed Atsushi’s orders in the letter, the video he sent should be playing in a few moments. “Good evening. Today we have a very special program for you guys,” a man with a microphone said. “You are all aware of Kira’s return, correct? Well, Kira has chosen NHN to connect him with the world once again, just like 5 years ago.” Atsushi smiled as he watched the program. “We have received a video from Kira, which we will now play.” The screen turned white, but had the word “Zero” in the “Old English Five” font across the center of the screen. A muffled voice began to speak. “Greetings, people of the world. I would like to inform everyone that I am not the same Kira that started killing criminals 11 years ago. Since I am not the same person, I would like a different name, so people do not confuse me with Kira. Henceforth, I am to be known as Zero. To prove that I am the one carrying out judgment, the old bald man currently speaking on channel 7 will die of a heart attack in 10 seconds. Please change the channel.” Atsushi changed the channel on the TV to channel 7, where a bald elderly man was speaking. He suddenly grabbed his chest and fell to the ground, dead. Atsushi then changed the channel back to NHN. “Now, you have no reason to believe that I am not who I say I am. There are some people who believe Kira is taking a break. Stop and think about that for a second. Would someone like Kira really take a break? No, he wouldn’t. Kira was, in fact, captured by the authorities and most likely executed in secrecy. My people, this world had sunken so low. There was too much crime in every corner of the planet. With the birth of Kira, crime around the world had decreased by 70% and war had ceased to exist. The world began moving in the right direction. After the disappearance of Kira, crime began to increase around the world again. Kira clearly isn’t just taking a break. If he was, he’d have lost everything he had worked so hard to achieve. The world needs someone like Kira to carry out judgment. Someone needs to continue what Kira started. I, Zero, have been entrusted with this task. I plan to rid this world of crime and evil. I will purify this world for the good of humanity, just as the martyr Kira did before me. Anyone can dream about tomorrow, but only the strongest can make their dream a reality. Kira was strong, but not strong enough. Recently, however, I realized I can complete Kira’s dream. My abilities, my powers, were wasted until now. I don’t want to be the wasted potential. I will ask for everyone’s cooperation in purifying this world. Those who support me will be rewarded with their lives, but those who oppose me and try to get rid of me may lose them instead. Together, we can eliminate crime, greed, and self-satisfaction. Together, we can create a perfect world. Who’s with me?” |

Chapter 8: React “Hey, guys, you might wanna see this,” Matsuda said. He had the TV turned on to NHN. “Good evening. Today we have a very special program for you guys, You are all aware of Kira’s return, correct? Well, Kira has chosen NHN to connect him with the world once again, just like 5 years ago.” “Turn it up,” Taiki said. By now he was working with the rest of the team as a Kira investigator, and trying to lead them away from Atsushi. “We have received a video from Kira, which we will now play.” The screen turned white, aside from the word “Zero” on it. “You think we should record this?” Aizawa asked. “Yes,” Taiki simply stated, not taking his eyes off the screen. “And since I know at least one of you is thinking it, no, we shouldn’t stop the broadcast. People already know that Kira’s returned. What harm can he do?” “Greetings, people of the world. Please change the channel.” Matsuda changed the channel, and the man died, clearly of a heart attack. “That looks like harm to me!” Taiki sighed. “Nothing we could’ve done about that. We couldn’t have gotten there in time, and even if the broadcast were stopped, the man would probably still have died.” “Now, you have no reason to believe that I am not who I say I am. There are some people who believe Kira is taking a break. Stop and think about that for a second. Would someone like Kira really take a break? No, he wouldn’t. Kira was, in fact, captured by the authorities and most likely executed in secrecy.” Taiki had also been told about the events of Kira’s death. “He has no idea about how Kira died, so this guy didn’t know Kira. That’s probably a good thing.” “Why’s that?” Aizawa asked him. “Because then he doesn’t know a damn thing about us.” “My people, this world had sunken so low. I will purify this world for the good of humanity, just as the martyr Kira did before me.” “Hah!...martyr,” Taiki muttered. “Anyone can dream about tomorrow, but only the strongest can make their dream a reality. Kira was strong, but not strong enough. Recently, however, I realized I can complete Kira’s dream. My abilities, my powers, were wasted until now. I don’t want to be the wasted potential.” “You’ll just end up dead like Kira. I’d consider that wasted potential.” “He probably thinks he won’t get caught like Kira, though,” Aizawa pointed out. “Of course not. If he thought we could catch him, he wouldn’t kill people. I’m just saying that he will get killed, one way or another.” “I will ask for everyone’s cooperation in purifying this world. Those who support me will be rewarded with their lives, but those who oppose me and try to get rid of me may lose them instead. Together, we can eliminate crime, greed, and self-satisfaction. Together, we can create a perfect world. Who’s with me?” Taiki grabbed the remote from Matsuda, and turned the TV off. “Together?” He laughed. “Is he planning on letting others actually work with him? Anyway, you guys can figure some stuff out for yourselves for now. There’s something else L wanted to show me.” He walked back to his computer, leaving the others to fend for themselves. The letter “L” then showed up on his screen. “Watch this video and tell me what you think.” The screen changed to what appeared to be a recording from a security camera. From what Taiki could see, it seemed to be focused on the outside of a girls’ bathroom. For a few minutes he half-heartedly watched the screen, as women went in and came out the door. Then suddenly something interesting happened. Someone came out of the bathroom, masked and holding a gun. So this is from that attempted bank robbery yesterday? He rewound the tape, to try and see who it was that had gone into the bathroom last. At the time that the person came out of the bathroom, there had been two girls inside. One of those two Taiki recognized as Aeryn. “Shit…” ========================= “If you continue watching,” Near said, “you’ll see that the other girl leaves after everything ends. It’s obvious which one was involved in the robbery, but…I can’t find a match for her face anywhere. I was wondering if you might know a way to help.” The person on the other end didn’t say anything for a while. “No,” Taiki answered. “I have no idea.” “I have a feeling Taiki knows her,” Near said, after ending their connection. “He just seemed to come out of nowhere himself.” Lidner, Lester, and Gevanni all watched him silently. “Now, Lidner,” Near continued. “We have found out that Luke was investigating someone named Atsushi Iino. I want you to follow Atsushi and see if he’s doing anything suspicious. Lester and Gevanni, you can continue with investigating the suspects you have been up to this point.” Lidner left, thinking they would have Zero caught in no time. |
