10/15/08 Posted by Yusuke - Episode Four

Lemme see if I can figure this freakin News Box thingy out. Okay! Ascension is moving right along, with Episode Four having been posted a couple minutes ago. Episode Four was in on time, but had to wait to actually be posted until it could be properly reviewed. I hope everyone's enjoying Ascension's Revision, since it kicks so much more ass this time around. Your comments are greatly appreciated!

Also, for those that haven't noticed, there should be two more skins available in the Skin Selector. We weren't fully able to get the Blue one to entirely work, but have fun with that nonetheless.

Chapter 1
~The Leaf's New Talent~

Kai suddenly hit the ground, landing hard on his back. Immediately he clutched his face with his left hand. “What the hell was that for?!”

“You know what it was for, slacker!” yelled Ella, who crossed her arms and looked down at Kai, mercilessly.

“It’s not like you don’t slack!” retorted Kai almost immediately. “All the times you’ve got onto me about slacking, you could be training! So, in a way, you were slacking too!”

Ella’s eyes narrowed, then she kicked Kai in the shin with brutal force as he was getting to his feet. Kai winced in pain, then began hopping around on one leg like an idiot.

“Is there a problem?” asked a female voice, which seemed to come out of nowhere.

A female ninja with black hair was walking towards Ella. She wore the ever so familiar Jounin attire, and her headband was slung around her waist, hanging loosely to the side. Her attention seemed to be more focused on Kai, who was still hopping around like a jackass.

Ella immediately turned around, “Amaya-Sensei, Kai’s been slacking again!”

“I wasn’t slacking!” exclaimed Kai, who limped his way over to where Ella and Amaya were standing. “I was meditating!”

“You were snoring!” declared Ella, turning her head to glare at Kai.

“Lies!” shouted Kai in response.

Ella and Kai glared at one another, growling.

“You really should put all that energy into training,” suggested Amaya, who caught one of Ella’s slaps, which would have probably given Kai brain damage. “After all, the Chuunin Exams are approaching fast.”

“Hey, wait a sec,” started Kai, seemingly ignoring his Sensei. “Why exactly are you here, Amaya-Sensei? I mean, you’ve usually got so many missions to take care of and stuff…”

“That’s the problem,” answered Amaya with a sigh. “The Hokage’s always sending me out on missions, and I told him today that I’d like to take awhile to train and teach my students. I really need to make sure you’re all prepared for the Chuunin Exams.”

“Ah, we’re fine, they’re still like half a year away anyways,” declared Kai, who finally noticed he’d been saved from Ella’s vicious slap.

“So? Why should that exclude you from training?” asked Amaya, raising her eyebrow. “Do you think everyone else is going to just lounge around and wait for someone to come around and magically increase their skills?”

Kai sighed heavily, “No, Amaya-Sensei…”

Amaya looked around, then turned back to Kai and Ella. “Where’s Hina?”

Kai blinked a few times then sighed, “I think she’s practicing her invisible thing.”

Amaya’s eyes suddenly narrowed, then the Sharingan in her left eye activated, as the right eye’s was hidden behind her hair.

Kai’s eyes lit up as he thought to himself, Damn, she knows!

Everything seemed like slow motion compared to Amaya’s speed. However, Kai seemed to be able to keep up, since he was used to this kind of speed with his Taijutsu. Amaya’s left hand charged with chakra, while her right hand began performing a hand-sign.

Ella thought to herself, She can perform a jutsu with one hand?!

Kai brought his first two fingers up in front of his face. He closed his right eye suddenly, and his muscles visibly tightened. During this time, Amaya had thrust her chakra infused left hand at what appeared to be nothing but air. However, her fist seemed to suddenly stop, colliding into something. A weak gasp could be heard, but where it came from, there appeared to be nothing there. Something seemed to suddenly hit the ground, hard.

Kai, having opened the first gate, The Gate of Opening, thrust his fist towards his Sensei’s stomach. Amaya had anticipated Kai’s attack, and the one handed jutsu she was performing, was now completed. A small wind wave blasted from Amaya’s hand, propelling her backwards and out of harm’s way. The wind wave also blasted into Kai, knocking him backwards as well.

“Pretty good,” said Amaya with an encouraging smile on her face.

Ella, having finally shaken herself back to reality, began performing hand-signs of her own. Her hands emitted a misty blue chakra, which seemed to seep from her hands like a cold fog. “Chakra Vortex Jutsu!”

Kai charged Amaya, having quickly recovered. He appeared to vanish right before reaching Amaya. He reappeared less than a second, having Amaya in a full nelson type hold. “Now!!”

“Right!” agreed Ella, who darted forwards and plunged her ominous looking palm into Amaya’s stomach.

Amaya lurched forwards, clearly surprised. However, there was a poofing sound, and Amaya vanished.

“A shadow clone?!” exclaimed an awestruck Kai.

“Damn it, it was never her to begin with!” declared Ella, who was now scanning the area.

Suddenly a voice from what appeared to be coming from nowhere, cut through the air. “Shadow Clone Jutsu!”

“That was Hina!” stated Kai and Ella together.

Ella’s eyes suddenly widened, “Kai, heads up! Behind you!!”

Kai immediately responded by thrusting his elbow backwards, but it connected with air. Amaya had once again anticipated Kai’s attack pattern, and had ducked in low from the start. She thrust her chakra infused right hand right behind Kai’s left knee cap, causing him to crumple to the ground.

“Speed means nothing if you can’t use it Kai,” stated Amaya, who leaned backwards to avoid a thrust from Ella.

Amaya grabbed Ella’s elbow and pulled, causing her to thrust her attack forward even more. Ella’s hand collided with something, which was followed by a poofing sound. Amaya then thrust her chakra infused palm into Ella’s midsection. Ella lurched forwards and fell to her knees.

Ugh! She used my own attack to take down one of Hina’s clones, while throwing me off balance at the same time…

Ella clasped her hands to her stomach in pain, then put one over her mouth, “I think I’m gonna be sick…”

Kai painfully forced himself back to his feet, but was clearly favoring his left leg. “You’re…right Amaya-Sensei. However, you’re wrong about one thing, I can use it.”

Amaya turned around in time to narrowly avoid a kunai that was traveling at an extraordinary rate.

Amaya narrowed her eyes on Kai, He’s using his drastic increase in strength and speed to launch his weapons at an inhuman level… Nice trick. He might‘ve hit me if he hadn‘t been off balance.

Amaya jumped back, barely avoiding another speeding kunai, having picked up on it with her Sharingan.

Ella began making slow hand-signs on one knee, “Chakra Construction Jutsu!”

Ella’s chakra immediately became visible in her hand, and soon took form in the shape of a kunai. She then proceeded to launch the kunai at Amaya, who easily dodged it. However, the chakra kunai that Ella had thrown appeared to be caught by nothing but air. It then made it’s way back towards Amaya, who was actually taken by surprise this time. The kunai cut through her jounin attire at the top of her arm, slicing a tiny cut on her skin as she avoided.

Kai and Ella gasped, then suddenly began cheering, “Alright!!! We did it!!”

“Way to go Hina!” exclaimed Ella happily.

Amaya landed on her feet with a smile, “I’m impressed. You missed me on purpose, because you were actually throwing your kunai to Hina. I’m curious though, how exactly did you know where she was?”

Ella stopped cheering for a moment and blinked, “Oh, right! Well, while you were busy avoiding Kai’s kunai, one of Hina’s shadow clones came up beside me and told me what to do.”

“I see, well then, I guess it’s safe to say you three have improved immensely then, especially your teamwork.” stated Amaya proudly.

“Well, it took us a year and a half Sensei,” sighed Ella, seeming a little disappointed now.

“Hmmm,” said Amaya, deactivating her Sharingan. “Considering I’ve had seven years more experience, have mastered both element and shape manipulation, was taught by Terix, and possess the Sharingan, I would say a year and a half is very impressive.”

Kai let out a tiny growl, having released his hold on the first gate, “But you were holding back Amaya-Sensei!”

“That’s true,” agreed Amaya. “However, the way you three are progressing, I’m sure the day will soon come when each of you will be my equal.”

“Oh come on Amaya-Sensei,” stated Ella, who winced a little and held her stomach. “There’s no way we’ll ever be able to match your skill.”

“That’s not true,” declared Amaya, shaking her head from side to side. “Why don’t you three think back to the very first day you were assigned with each other.”

Kai and Ella seemed to zone out for a moment, then sighed heavily and groaned. Amaya couldn’t help but laugh a little.

“Now with that out of the way…” said Amaya, taking out a kunai and spinning it on her pointer finger. “I’m going to point out each of your weak points. I think I’ll start with Ella.”

Ella looked up at Amaya, who launched the kunai on her finger at Ella. However, instead of dealing a lethal blow, only the ring end of the kunai hit Ella in the chest and bounced off. Ella clutched her chest in pain, “Ow!”

“Your reaction time is too slow,” stated Amaya harshly. “You would be dying right now had the point of that kunai hit you. Now for you, Hina.”

Suddenly a head appeared, seemingly floating in midair. The head was soon made out to be a young, female ninja with long, black hair. She began to glance around nervously.

“You’re too delicate and kind, and I’m actually surprised that you were able to even deal a simple scratch to me,” said Amaya with a small smile. “You need to work on becoming more confident. You may not like fighting, but you need to realize that sometimes there’s no other way.”

Hina nodded, then replied in a somewhat tiny voice, “Yes Amaya-Sensei.”

“I also think it’s time I told you why I can see you even though you’re technically invisible,” declared Amaya with a smirk.

Amaya suddenly activated her Sharingan again, “Even though you’re invisible, my Sharingan is able to pick up on the faint chakra aura that surrounds you in order for you to become invisible.”

Hina’s eyes got wide suddenly, then she looked down at the rest of her body, which was invisible. Amaya deactivated her Sharingan again.

“Whoa!” exclaimed Kai suddenly. “That’s the first time I’ve seen you do that Hina! It’s gotta be pretty sweet to be a floating head!!”

Hina blushed suddenly, let out a small noise of embarrassment, the disappeared from view completely again.

“Way to go Kai!” shouted Ella angrily, slamming her fist down on the top of Kai’s head.

“ARGH!” exclaimed Kai in pain. “What the hell did I do?!”

“You know Hina’s sensitive about her bloodline!” shouted Ella back in return.

“Hina…” sighed Amaya heavily.

“I think she ran off to go put her clothes back on, Amaya-Sensei,” stated Kai, who was stating the obvious.

“We know…” answered Ella with a growl.

“Finally, let’s move onto you, Kai.” stated Amaya, trying to get everyone’s focus back on track. “I could feel you holding back just a little bit when you’d throw a punch at me. I’ve been able to deduct that you just don’t like hitting on girls.”

“Haha, Sensei, I know you meant that in two ways…” sighed Kai, who was wobbling a little bit on his left leg.”

Amaya laughed, “Well, at least you’re sharp. Now, I can understand your sense of honor and respect, but there are some cases that are exceptions. I think you know perfectly well what I mean by this.”

Kai nodded, plopping down on the ground to rest, “Man, why did I have to get stuck on a team with three girls?”

“Also, I think you could stand a bit of endurance training, but we’ll talk about everyone’s new training regimes later. For now, I want you all to celebrate, and take it easy for the remainder of the day.”

“But what about the deal we had?!” exclaimed Kai suddenly. “You told us the very first day if we could hit you, you’d teach us any jutsu we wanted to learn from you!”

“Don’t forget the all you can eat Ramen!” shouted Ella in agreeance. “For some reason I’m really hungry now…”

Amaya scratched her head and groaned, “Technically you didn’t hit me, but I guess it will suffice.”

Suddenly two ninja appeared behind Amaya. One of them had long, blonde hair, while the other had shorter, black hair. They were both wearing the standard Chuunin attire. About this time Hina had rejoined the group, but tried to remain in the back, hoping not to attract attention.

“What is it?” asked Amaya, who remained with her back facing the two Chuunin.

“The Hokage wants to see you,” answered the black haired Chuunin.

“Hey Ryuri!” greeted Kai, who was talking to the black haired Chuunin. “You let Linx hit cha yet?”

Ryuri smirked, “No, but I’ve let him miss me repeatedly.”

“Wassup sis?” greeted the blonde haired Chuunin, who was looking over at Hina.

“Hi, Suzaku…” answered Hina with a sigh.

“Got a boyfriend yet?” asked Suzaku with a smirk.

Suzaku!” exclaimed Hina, blushing.

Suzaku laughed, then turned to Ryuri. “Hey man, we need to get going. The quicker we get this mission done, the quicker I can get back to the hot springs!”

“I do hope you mean the men’s hot springs…” growled Amaya, who gave Suzuki a deadly side glance.

Suzaku shuttered slightly under Amaya’s glare, “Uhhhhh, right, what else would I a meant?”

Suzaku gave a few weak laughs, then turned back to Ryuri. “Okay, seriously man, let’s go. Your sister’s scaring me again…”

Ryuri scoffed, “You’re a Chuunin, try to act like one and maybe that wouldn’t happen.”

Suzaku glared at Ryuri, trying to intimidate him.

“Sorry, you need more practice before you can pull that off,” stated Ryuri with a smirk.

Suzaku sighed, and hung his head in defeat.

“Why does the Hokage want to see me?” asked Amaya, who now seemed annoyed. “I told him--”

“It’s about them,” interrupted Ryuri in a grim tone.

Amaya starred at her brother for a moment, then returned her attention back to her team. “Very well, I understand.”

Ryuri and Suzaku nodded, then vanished. Amaya sighed, then began rubbing the back her neck.

“Here, this should be plenty,” said Amaya, handing Kai quite a bit of ryo. “I want you three to go get some ramen and take it easy until I come back. Once I return your training will begin.”

“Alright!!” cheered Kai happily.

“But Sensei, who was he talking about?” asked Ella curiously.

Amaya didn’t answer, but instead gave a small wave and vanished.

“Let’s go get some ramen!” commanded Kai happily.

“Yeah, yeah…” said Ella with a sigh. “I just wish she’d tell us about some of these missions she’s always sent on.”

Kai began walking, who was joined by Ella. Hina also began to follow a little ways behind them.

“Yeah, especially since she hasn’t even had time to properly train us these past few months…” agreed Kai.

The three Genin sighed in perfect symmetry and disappeared into the forest. However, they were unaware of the masked ninja who had been watching them. Once the Genin were gone, the mysterious ninja also vanished, but in the opposite direction.
