I just made reservations to spend the weekend at a David Lynch Foundation Event at MAHARISHI UNIVERSITY OF MANAGEMENT here in Iowa. Schedule includes a Saturday concert by Donavan, James McCartney and Laura Dawn. James is listed as the featured guest artist. For $50, I get this concert and veggie meals for three days. I also get to listen to how wonderful TM is. I did take the class way back when, so I know what to expect there. I can assure you that I will not be wearing Paul/Beatles clothes. |

Agenda says the meal on Friday is at David Lynch's favorite restaurant in town. In 1990, when Paul played Ames and the press asked him if he knew of this university, he said no. Guess the McCartney family has been educated in the past 19 years. It's about a 3 hour drive from here and I'm staying at a flea bag hotel where the university suggests you stay. Wonder if that means they will be running shuttles from that hotel. |

Probably have to listen to more about TM than I care to. One of the speakers is about how TM affects brain waves. |

http://www.iowasource.com/blog/1040-james-mccartney-in-fairfield-concert.html There is a picture of James on site James McCartney in Fairfield Concert by Claudia Petrick Iowa's Enlightenment Magazine It’s a triple whammy—headlining the November 14 David Lynch Foundation concert in Fairfield are Laura Dawn with The Little Death, plus perennial favorite Donovan, AND very special guest. . . James McCartney, who will be making his debut performance under his own name. He’ll be bringing his band Light here from England. James, who is a vegan, visited Fairfield over the summer and reportedly loved the town and the people he met. It’s an honor to have have him perform here for us. Two shows are in the works, one at 7:00 p.m. for students, and a second concert at 9:15 p.m. for the general public, both on Saturday, November 14. No ticket information yet, but we’ll keep you posted. Singer/songwriter Laura Dawn is an Iowa girl, born in the small town of Pleasantville. She headed for NYC when she was 21 and released her first album in 1999. She’s the front woman for Moby’s “punk-rock fueled blues band” The Little Death, with Aaron Brooks on drums, Daron Murphy (her husband) on guitar, and of course Moby on bass and guitar (although he’s on tour now and won’t be here for the Fairfield concert). Of the magnetic chanteuse Laura Dawn, music writer James Moore says, “Laura’s voice has this divinely lived-in smoked-whisky quality that has drawn comparisons to Janis Joplin and Dusty Springfield, among others, but it is much more supple in some ways.” Read the full article in the November issue! Annie Nocenti of The Brooklyn Rail calls The Little Death “one of New York’s best-kept sultry secrets . . . top notch players and volcanic generosity . . . singer Laura Dawn’s staging and rocket-fuel is punk . . . and her powerhouse voice channels blues and gospel. . . . She’s a riveting performer, her own blend of Tina Turner and Janis Joplin . . .” |

Great ... you'll be able to clue us in on what you think of his vocal style and all that. I just found mention of it on the web, and then realized that must be what this thread was about. Here's a link to The Little Death's myspace page, they've got some songs uploaded that you can get a taste of what they're about: http://www.myspace.com/thelittledeathnyc Edited by Icarus, 30 Oct 2009, 01:20 AM.

You can even get a degree in B.A. in Maharishi Vedic Science From the world’s most ancient continuous tradition of knowledge, the Vedic tradition of India, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has formulated the 40 aspects of Veda and Vedic Literature into a complete science and technology of consciousness. Veda means knowledge. Maharishi Vedic Science offers * the complete knowledge of Natural Law, the intelligence that administers the universe, and * applications of this complete knowledge in education, health, management, economics, political science, agriculture, defense, and architecture and city planning. You will explore the scientific discovery that human physiology is essentially consciousness — the expression of the fundamental impulses of Natural Law expressed in the Vedic sounds, the same laws that administer the whole universe. And you will learn to read Veda and Vedic Literature in Sanskrit, the language of Nature itself. Come and enjoy the bliss and growth of consciousness that this produces. And here are your charges for an academic year: Total charges for 2009–10 academic year Tuition $24,000 Housing (single room) & meals $6,000 Fees $430 Total $30,430 |

http://www.examiner.com/x-2082-Beatles-Examiner~y2009m11d4-Paul-McCartneys-son-prepares-to-follow-in-dads-footsteps-at-US-debut-Nov-14 Posted Image James McCartney, son of former Beatle Paul McCartney, will play his American debut concert Nov. 14 at Maharishi University in Fairfield, Iowa. The younger McCartney will perform during the fourth annual David Lynch “Change Begins Within” Weekend, Nov. 13 to 16. Also performing will be Donovan, who joined the Beatles in Rishikesh. Blueser Laura Dawn and her group The Little Death will fill out the bill. The concert comes a little more than 40 years after James' father, Paul McCartney, traveled to Rishikesh, India, to study Transcendental Meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. “James has a way with melody and a set of pipes, which are more than a match for his dad’s,” a recent article in the UK Sun declared. In a statement issued for the concert, he said this is something he's been working towards for a while. "I have been playing music since I was nine and writing along the way. I met my band about a year ago. Producer David Kahne introduced us -- and my dad, Paul, helped." McCartney says his father played a big role in helping him develop his musical talent. "My dad taught me guitar when I was nine. I play a Fender Stratocaster, which Carl Perkins gave me from the seventies, and a Gibson Les Paul that my dad gave me -- heart red. "The band consists of me, 32, on guitar, piano, and vocals; Brian Johnson, 28, on drums; Steven Bayley, 32, on guitar, synthesizers, toy piano, and harmonies; and Charles Turner, 27, on bass and harmonies, McCartney states. "I am from London and Sussex, Brian and Charlie are from Allerton, Liverpool, where my dad grew up, and Steve is from Birmingham. Brian and Charlie used to be in the Dead 60s and Steve used to be in The Open." The group is touring and also in the midst of recording an album. "We are mixing our album in Hog Hill Studio, Sussex. The words on the album refer to spirituality, love, family, trying to sort out one’s own life, and many other things. I have written the songs over a ten-year period," he says. "The music was inspired by the Beatles, Nirvana, the Cure, PJ Harvey, Radiohead -- and all good music. It is basically rock ‘n ‘roll, clean sounding, and vocal." Just like his dad. |

Wish he'd at least put up a MySpace page with some songs on it, but he's probably got a marketing scheme that doesn't involve MySpace. |

I wish that too. There seems to be nothing up about him or his band at all, I dont know if thats just hos way of trying to prevent mass interest from Beatles fans or what |

That wouldn't surprise me at all. Some of the stuff that has been written on The Examiner's web page is horrible. |

I will be joining two people I have met over the internet in Fairfield. I am leaving here at noon today. They will be joining me tomorrow. Two of us bought the package and will be seeing both concerts and eating lots of good veggie food at Maharishi University. The third person will join us at the late concert, where we do have reserved seats. First concert is GA, but there are real seats--no standing. I am sure the two of us will stand out like a sore thumb. Wondering the same thing about me tonight. :D |

I have arrived in Fairfield. My room was still being cleaned and I was told by the maid that the people at Maharishi University really treat your right on these weekends and that they saved Fairfield when Parsons College closed. |
