Dear LB Croydon, I write to LBC Dave Wickens as the officer responsible for traffic matter at the Council NP, to LBC David Szostak as Head of Traffic and Road Safety, and to LBC Steve Iles as the officer responsible for road maintenance. I maintain that the council has been negligent in not taking appropriate action to put right the dangerous condition of the road surface, despite being advised of the lack of timely maintenance and repair on numerous occasions over a number of years. Maintenance of Chipstead Valley Road between Rickman Hill and the Surrey border at the railway bridge has been badly neglected for several years. The road surface is badly pitted, with sections worn away. There are also a number of potholes and quite deep depressions. The white lines along the centre of the road are badly worn away, as are the bus stop and other warning markings, such as SLOW. This has been reported to Croydon Council repeatedly for at least three years, but nothing has been done. The road condition is now so bad that the safety of road users is compromised. I hope that urgent action will now be implemented to remedy this long-lasting dangerous situation. Please confirm when residents of Coulsdon may expect to see this main road restored to an acceptable standard. Peter Morgan Coulsdon NP rep for Roads & Traffic PJM, 1628, Sat 24-1-09 |
