What did you guys do today? I shook hands with Jack Layton ^_^. That gives me +9001 Social Democrat cred. So, there was an NDP rally at Science North (a large science centre in my city), and my school was a short walk from it. And since my lunch ran through the rally, I thought I would skip my lunch and go. So, my former NDP MP-turned-mayor spoke, then a nearby MPP spoke quickly and introduced Jack, then he walked down, shook mine and a friend's hand, some other people as well, and spoke to the gathering. So, I was late for Period 3 by about 5 minutes, but at least I got to hear most of Jack Layton's speech after he came out. Shame my lunch is continually cut, or else I'd listen to the whole thing, try and actually talk to him, and register with the NDP. But, instead, I ended up running back to school with my stuff and 2 green signs that say "STRONG LEADER", and no membership... yet. Still, Jack Layton... *drool* Edited by Zblewski, Oct 9 2008, 10:23 AM.

please tell me you're joking about joining the NDP. If it weren't for Jack Layton, I would've signed up with them for this election (I don't like the way he always tries to attack any idea that He didn't come up with). |

Boy, it must be nice to live in a province where you actually get to see the candidates. Out here in Alberta we are lucky if we get a mailer from the candidates. I am at the point now where the first non-Conservative to knock on my door will get my vote--not that my vote will make a damn bit of difference. |

actually they (the party) are actually given funding (from the federal govn't) based upon how many votes are cast for that party. |

You are, of course, correct but my vote is only worth $0.43 You can't even buy a stamp for that! Edited by Zanalan, Oct 9 2008, 09:15 PM.

Check this out, we'll use the Green Party as an example: Number of Registured Voters (R): 23,054,615 (2006) Percentage of Votes received (V): 12% Money Received Per Vote (M): $0.43 Total Money Received: X Here's the Formula: (R * V) * M = X Here's the Math: (23,054,615 * .12) * .43 = X (2,766,553.8) * .43 = 1,189,618.134 Based on current polls, the Green Party would receive $1,189,618.13 (and just think! It could be $1,189,618.56!) Conclusion: Each vote does make a difference. Sources: IFES Harris/Decima |

If Harper gets his way, that's all done for. I met Layton too, while I was working on his campaign. I shook his hand and got a picture, it was fantastic! |

Harper is going to delay the vote for a week to see how much his propaganda machine can spin this. In the end, I am betting that he will back down. |

I can't say I'm a big supporter of the NDP. Jack Layton really annoys me. I prefer the Green Party, actually. |

thread necromancy. Never was a fan of the NDP. I'm a trudeau-maniac myself, though I loved the Pearson and Chretien years. Met Scott Brison, saw Stephane Dion, and had interesting conversations with Graham Steele, Danny Graham and Dianna Whalen. Once participated in a Q&A with Jack Layton. He tiptoed around my question about what he'd do to prevent another referendum and improve Federal-Quebecois relations, and never answered it. I don't hold much hope for Layton. He's the stereotypical TaxnSpend NDPer. In the last two elections he had NOTHING and I mean NOTHING of value for the defense portfolio. How can this be when he has Peter Stoffer as a defense critic? Bah. Woot for Ignatieff and Stephen MacNeil. That's right. I said it. I'm a Liberal. Edited by Vincent Chaotic, May 11 2009, 04:22 AM.

I am an independent voter as I decide where my vote goes. In my opinion, I don't like the conservatives, the NDP are weak/lame and the Greens have no chance on getting a seat! But, the Liberals are improving since they replaced Dion with Ignatieff as Ignatieff is more able in the political arena. Ignatieff has an interesting family history(father was a canadian diplomat, grandfather & great-grandfather both served the Russian czars before the family fled during the revolution) & is an excellent intellectual(got a copy of one of his books, Virtual War,& it was a good book.). |

Yeah, I believe in humanitarian intervention(preventing genocide in Bosnia & Kosovo) while I am against opportuntistic wars(like in Iraq). |
