I know, right? So, what do we all think about the season opener? Seems like ducks are being lined up... |

Arya getting her revenge on the Freys was fine but the reveal was such a silly Soap Opera moment that I couldn't help but think of Days Of Our Lives. And it just made me frustrated, again, that we never got Lady Stoneheart. Love The Hound but why is he able to see into the fire now? Because they brought him back to life? Sansa's snark to the perpetually annoying Littlefinger before he walked away was fun. Overall, I thought it was fine. Nothing made much of an impression but I didn't feel like I was waiting for the minutes to pass, either. I'm ready for The Night King to show up and wipe these people out. |

No HBO. I might do a free weekend and binge when the season's done. |

DID they bring the Hound back to life? I just thought that he survived..... Obviously I am not obsessive in my viewing of GoT and am sure I missed some episodes. I love Lady Mormont who is becoming one of my favorite characters. I am still continually annoyed by Sansa and disappointed in the children--and their fates-- of Ned Stark, Arya being an exception. |

Loved the Arya-as-Walder scene. Good to have a few more minutes with 'him'. I liked the Jon/Sansa conflict in front of everybody. tgir - Yup, Hound turned up alive in 6.7 and 8 last year. No, he wasn't brought back by magic or anything, he just wasn't all the way dead when we left him, and he survived. I'm not sure why he could see the vision in the fire. Maybe it was just, like, really vivid... I liked the opener. Table-setting, sure, but all fun to watch. Only seven hours, though, shit's gonna start happening pretty fast. |

I loved everything about the season opener. I'm really loving Arya right now. We have been rewatching the series and made it up to the 'Red Wedding' before this season. It has been great to re-watching it after I read the books because I can fill Chris in on the details and also it makes more sense. I feel the first time watching the series there was so many characters, places and plots that it was easy to miss stuff. |

I am very mad that the next GOT episode was leaked online. I'm even madder (is that a word?) that people are talking about it. I am trying to be soooo careful not to ruin last week's episode for those who have not seen it and then you have some cruel people who are ruining the fun for all of us. |

:wow: At this point I don't even care if Cersei's lap dog is dead. I'm sure he'll resurface, though. |

Yeah, if Jaime were to go out then, I think it would have been by the fire, not drowning... Very fun how we root for Bronn to stay alive, but also don't want him to 'win' against the dragon... and Tyrion feels the same way, of course, with his 'flee, you fucking idiot'... Excellent episode. Jon/Theon, and Arya/Sansa/Bran reunions... that Arya/Brienne training spar... Anxious to see a Littlefinger/Arya exchange... DID he recognize her, that time with Tywin?... |

Fantastic episode. So much to love. Dax, completely agree about rooting for Bronn and in my case Jamie to stay alive but at the same time rooting for the dragon. We will be in a hotel next Sunday that does NOT have HBO. I am so devastated but I think I'm going to bring IPad and load HBO Go and watch it ASAP after it airs. Watching it on an iPad sounds dreadful but seeing spoilers would be HELL! |

Did Chris predict it prior to there BEING a dead dragon? Because that's good. But no, as SOON as we saw them dragging it out of the lake, I knew how the wall would be coming down... that's an easy one... Great stuff all around. |

Such a blast to binge the whole thing in a day. So much love. So much to say. I'm gonna try an episode by episode stream of consciousness commentary as i read one of the review sites for each episode. After i make chocolate chip cookies. :P |

There were some great moments of spectacle but I found most of the story-telling to be a bit clunky. My biggest complaint is that the White Walkers are still primarily mustache-twirling villains. People are speculating that The Night King has some kind of 'seeing' ability similar to Bran's, which is how he gained himself a dragon, but it frustrates me that the show has spent so little time exploring what motivates him. I've had enough of Cersei but it was nice that she didn't kill Tyrion or Jamie, therein reminding us that she's still a human being who struggles with inner conflict. I enjoyed the show a lot more when they were working more closely with Martin's novels. |

I think I am enjoying the spectacle and the fast pace enough to overlook the clunkiness. See relevant comments below: S7, E1 – Dragonstone Episode reviews by Myles McNutt at avclub. I’ve been following him awhile, back when he did a Buffy rewatch 10 yrs ago? AVClub review I sorta forgot Arya had already murdered Walder, but something didn’t feel right, then I remembered. My book reading friends note the same as McNutt – that the show is pruning and narrowing focus, while the books continue to (choose one: develop an intricate canvas/sprawl and bloat). :D The exposition is a bit heavy – but I need the review so people talking about stuff to clarify their options is helpful. • Cersei and Jaime and the map. • The North is between a rock (The Wall) and a hard place (King’s Landing) – How can Jon justify any action? • Sansa and Jon debate options. • Tyrion lays out plans for Dany. Lovely scene with Arya and the soldiers, and not because of Shereen. I loved the absurdity of her list being touched upon and laughed about, with the grim reality a horrifying undercurrent. She is not a little girl any more. Euron’s little digs at Jaime – ouch! I am not hopeful that Jaime will end with a satisfying arc (this after seeing ALL of S7, not just e1). I agree with mcNutt that his development seems to have gone backwards. If Cersei is his fatal flaw, we need more than just his unswerving loyalty to her, justified by their past. IMHO. Dragonstone is gorgeous. Need to research if it is a real place or an elaborate set. It seems impossible that it’s a set. Sam in Maester training – poor guy! So much literal crap to deal with in an effort to make a difference. Boy there’s a lot of instantaneous traveling. I’m kinda glad. |
