Very happy.

Nine commercial-free hours directed by Lynch, written and produced by Lynch & Frost.

Wow.

There have always been rumors, and nothing ever came of them, but Friday's tweets WERE 'curious', for sure... but I still couldn't, you know, get my hopes up, really...

With Mad Men and Justified coming to an end next year, my list of Reasons To Live was growing uncomfortably short, but new Twin Peaks in 2016?... this is awesomely terrific news.

WOW! Just WOW! I hadn't even heard rumors that they were thinking about a third season, so I'm completely shocked right now.

Unfortunate that it's so far away, though.

I still say "Sometimes my arms bend back" to myself, though I'm pretty sure that was a line from Fire Walk With Me. For some reason, that line just stuck with me.

"Girl, what if I told you not to go?" from Wild At Heart pops up in my mind quite often, too. David Lynch has cast a spell over me, lol.

Nah, 'Sometimes my arms bend back' was in the original Cooper dream of the Black Lodge (Red Room), along with 'Let's rock', 'The gum you like is going to come back in style', and 'Where we're from, the birds sing a pretty song, and there's always music in the air'.

So many lines run through my head - or come out of my mouth - with great frequency. Cooper, Pete, Albert, Gordon ("AND SOME WATER! MY SOCKS ARE ON FIRE!"), the Waiter, the Giant, the dwarf, Harry Dean Stanton in the movie ("God damn, you people are confusing"), Mike & BOB, Leland...

Hm, I don't immediately recognize that Wild at Heart line (but it HAS been awhile...). My favorite lines there are Cage's pronunciation of Sailor's "I'm a manslaughterer"... Crispin Glover's one line (for which he got fifth billing) - "I'M MAKING MY LUNCH!"... and Sailor's "Ew, Peanut" after hearing Cousin Dell's story... and then that spectacularly funny exchange at the end...
Sailor - "What do you faggots want?"
(They beat the shit out of him)
Tough guy - "Had enough, asshole?"
Sailor - "Uh, yes I have, and I uh, just want to apologize to you gentlemen for, uh, referring to you as homosexuals."

New Twin Peaks is coming. Gah! It's a beautiful thing.

There's a lot of stuff I like, obviously, but when I see kids playing on the playground, there's that envy of... Gosh, I never get EXCITED about much, you know?

Too rare a feeling... this is cool.

Cool.

That'll solve a lot of exposition and backstory problems.

Where's Piper Laurie??? Hopefully, she has enough spunk left in her to get to do at least a little something.

She says she'll do it if Lynch wants her... http://www.vulture.com/2014/10/twin-peaks-alumni-where-are-they-now.html

She had one of my favorite lines in the Season 1 finale, when gagged Shelly is crying and begging for Catherine's help in escaping the fire - "I can't understand a word you're saying. You have a thing in your mouth." Yes. Yes, she did.

The 'Fumio Yamaguchi' thing didn't fool me for a second, but I know it got some people.

Six months later... Looks like this is dead. Showtime and Lynch couldn't come to terms... Odd that it was announced at all, then...

Shit.

Not that I'm totally surprised but it is odd that it was announced with much fanfare when there were still things to work out.

Hm.

>> Dear Facebook Friends, David wanted me to pass along the following statement:

Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks.

After one year and four months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done.

This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing.

Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime.

I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently.

--

Obviously, the appeal of nine hours all directed by Lynch was huge. But if it's still a Lynch/Frost script... Yeah, I want to see it.

Tim Hunter did the best three episodes of the series that Lynch did not... the middle one, with Leland's death, was tremendous. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006853/ Six of Mad Men, one of Deadwood, one of Breaking Bad... the film River's Edge is an underrated 80s gem...

He'd be my pick.

“We were saddened to read David Lynch‘s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. Showtime also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.” —Showtime Networks

Really curious as to HOW far apart they are on the budget...

Is this some kind of negotiation tactic?

Possibly, but after sixteen months of negotiations... and fans have been stressing since word broke of 'complications' last month... I don't know. I don't think Lynch would be calling the cast and telling them he's not directing if he didn't mean it... And sure, Showtime is GOING to say they were 'working towards solutions', but... Hm. 'Few remaining deal points'...

Maybe it'll work out.

21 years of 'maybe' on getting the FWWM deleted scenes out to the public, there was no reason to think a revival would go super-smoothly...

Fingers crossed.

The cast has put together a Facebook protest page, and Madchen Amick has put together this 'Twin Peaks without David Lynch is like...' video. It's cool.

If they had Lynch involved in the entire show, but not the director of every episode, I think I'd be okay with that. He didn't direct all of the original run of the series.

Right, only six out of thirty...
The pilot (two hours),
The second regular installment (what I'd call 1.3, but you'll more often see called 1.2, anyway, the one that ends with the dream, excerpts from the pilot's European ending...),
The second season premiere (two hours),
The one after that,
The one with the reveal and Maddy's death (2.7),
And the finale (or half of it, since 21 & 22 originally aired together).
And the movie, of course.

The scripts are reportedly finished, and are all by Lynch and Frost. So we're not even talking about a 'Lynch-less Twin Peaks'.

I would accept a different director. I'm sure I would not like it AS much, but... I really want more of the story, even a bit compromised.

But if a majority of the cast are really not interested in coming back without him directing, well... That's a fine negotiating tactic, but... I'll be bummed if Showtime pulls the plug.

(Gosh, I wanna see how they'd explain Audrey having survived the cliffhanger...)

I didn't know you'd ever watched it.

In an act of civil disobedience ('Save the pine weasel!'), Audrey chains herself to a vault in the bank. But (in another story) there was a bomb in the vault (at the end of a treasure hunt), and the bank went ka-blooey. (If there'd been a third season back then, she'd have survived, but it sure didn't LOOK like she could have...)

A few details nobody else has had so far (though still couched in speculation, mostly). Interesting that Lynch didn't tell his lawyer first, and that Frost was surprised..,

"I've got good news."

http://tvline.com/2015/05/15/twin-peaks-david-lynch-showtime-resolved/

Back on track. And even better... It's more than nine hours now.

Needed this, two days before the finale of one of my all-time favorites, and within a week of the final Letterman, which is sorta on the same scale of Life Chapter Closing that my daytime soaps of more than a quarter-century going away was...

I don't often care/wonder/think much about the production budgets, but I am very curious about how far apart they were, and what the ultimate compromise was here...

Was a very depressing thought that it wasn't going to happen. Relieved.

Huh.

I've previously seen it said that the 'more than nine hours' thing meant that some episodes would last longer than an hour, but we can still expect to get nine episodes.

Apparently... maybe this should be considered a 'rumor' and not an official confirmation, but today Sheryl Lee and Sherilyn Fenn are at a Seattle convention telling people there will be 18 new episodes of Twin Peaks.

Let's rock.
