Yeah, agree it wasn't really necessary for Abel to overhear a SECOND Gemma confession... (but it's not that big a deal, either.)

Yeah. Right now it FEELS like it's going to be Abel, but we'll see.

Whether or not he kills her, we WILL see Jax confront Gemma over killing Tara. We are owed that.

(Again, bless Vince Gilligan for coming up with the perfect way for Jesse to learn the truth about Jane's death...)

Anarchy Afterword - Host Chris Franjola has been dreadful... like, worse than cable access bad. Sutter is hosting tonight... that will be better. Guests are Hunnam, Flanagan, Coates, and Goggins.

Sutter and cast (Hunnam, Flanagan, Coates, Rossi, Smits, de Matteo, and Mark Boone Junior) are all on Conan tonight, too. Wonder why Sagal isn't joining them... maybe she's off somewhere doing a movie...

-

Q to Ausiello - Not too many weeks left I can ask this — what can you tell me about Sons of Anarchy? —Joel

Ausiello: Tonight’s episode really earns its TV-MA rating. There is more nudity (female and male) and graphic sex (male-female, male-male, etc) in the first four minutes than the entire season combined. There’s also an eye-popping display of violence that ranks among the show’s most gruesome ever — and that is one mighty high bar. It also happens to be this year’s strongest episode, due in no small part to one particular scene towards the end of the 90-minute installment that’s been five seasons in the making (and which does not disappoint).

Three after today.

Tonight is #10 -'Faith and Despondency'
#11 - 'Suits of Woe'
There's no show the week of Thanksgiving.
#12 - 'Red Rose'
#13, the finale, airs on 12/9. Title (which I hadn't seen before I went to look right now) is 'Papa's Goods'.

Ausiello was very probably referring to Abel being told by Jax that Wendy was his 'first Mommy'. It was good.

But the Tig/Venus scene was really very sweet and cool.

I don't know how you didn't know that before now. I know you didn't marathon Justified until, like, last year, but... we HAVE seen Venus five times in the last three seasons... and while she's very pretty... he IS pretty recognizable, I think...

You're quiet in the SOA 5 thread... here's our first reactions, October 2012...

KMI >> Oh.

My.

Heavens.

I kept thinking, "Who IS that?" "I know I know that actor..." Then Venus took the stepson nerd into the back room and I thought,,, "Holy hell, that looks like...................."

Krystal >> I saw a spoiler and it was.... But I haven't seen the show yet and I am not telling my hsb till we see it....

Me >> Loved that. So very much.
http://www.tvguide.com/News/Sons-Anarchy-Walton-Goggins-Woman-1054456.aspx

Jbr >> It was GREAT!!! I was also thinking who IS that, then it finally hit me and I asked my hubby, omg do you know who that is? At that point we had to rewind and watch the whole scene over to get the full appreciation.

Krystal >> He was awesome! God, how did they get those boobs to look so real! Just shows you can't believe anything you see!

Wonder who thought of that one?

Me >>Read the interview... Goggins' pitch, but he was half-joking... Sutter went back to him a year and a half or so later and said 'So I've written this - were you serious that you want to do it?'

--

HBO has used the same actors multiple times... there are a few that are significant in three series...

But Goggins is probably the most notable for FX - supporting-to-lead roles in two, and a significant 'surprise' role in a third...

(Adam Arkin had significant supporting roles on Sons & Justified, and also appeared on The Bridge - and has directed several episodes of each - but none of those have the same kind of screen time as Goggins...)

Revenge? Unknown at this time (but I'd guess yes, there will be a fifth season). This is about Chibs joining the second half of THIS season...

Though I'm one that can't 'jump in' and out of series unless I see them all (I'm just built that way), I'd say that the show is probably easy enough that you COULD drop back in and get everything that's immediately happening, though you'd obviously have missed a lot of 'the middle' of the story...

Nope.

So. Two to go.

The club has to take care of Marks.
The club has to take care of Barosky.
Jax's fate has to be decided (he's in trouble with the SOA for killing Jury).
Gemma's fate has to be decided.
And can Juice possibly survive?

http://www.people.com/article/jax-son-abel-twins-evan-ryder-londo? I think it's fun trivia that the twins playing Abel (for four years, since they were 2!...) also played Gene Draper on Mad Men...

I was satisfied, but I did like #11 better. I can't really say 'let down', but... it's SAD. Wayne's ending is very sad.

Jax/Gemma real good. Gemma deserves it, for sure, but... yeah, it's hard to fist-pump and yell 'Hooray!'. It's just all very tragic.

Happy surprise to see Chiklis as Milo (I love that name), the truck driver.

Agree it's odd they added 'Get Connor for the Irish' to the To Do list.

Glad to see Patterson in the finale preview... sure don't know how Jax could possibly get away with (amongst everything else) Wayne and Gemma...

Hoping Nero and Wendy and the kids are left in a good place.

Polling -

1. So Jax will die, right?

a. Well, yeah.
b. Nope, I think he'll make it out alive somehow.

2. If you answered 'yes', by what means/whose hands do you think he'll meet Mr. Mayhem?

a. Marks.
b. Connor.
c. Roarke or the Irish/Kings.
d. Baroski.
e. The Sons, after the Mayhem vote.
f. Jarry or someone else in Charming PD.
g. Abel.
h. The ghost of Clay.
i. Suicide.
j. Other - ________.

3. If you answered 'no', HOW the hell do you see him getting out of all this shit? Prison instead of death?

4. 'Happy endings'... Nero/Wendy/boys? Tig/Venus? Chibs/Jarry? Rat/Brooke? What was the special request Jax was making with the other charter Presidents? Some old unspoken rule he wanted... was it 'done away with' or 'enacted'? I forgot.

Yeah, the late-in-the-game suggestion (from Jury) that JT might have contributed to his own death opened up that as a viable option for his son, and that was the first thought when Jax came out of the meeting not telling the club anything but 'It's good, it'll be okay, it's all gonna work out'...

Last TWO episodes?... last THREE. Still think the third-to-last was the season highlight...

--

I was satisfied.

Jax killing Roarke (an IRA King) felt like something that... well, it might be FUN, but I don't see how the Belfast charter doesn't all get wiped out now...

Happy ending for Nero, Wendy, and the kids - glad about that.

Chibs is President and Tig is his VP.

>> The only thing we know is that she looks exactly like a woman that died as a result of JT's "accident" who turned out to be Brooke's mom.

I had forgotten that. But yeah, I was kinda thinking of her as being like the oranges in the Godfather films, a portent of a major death coming, except that she DIDN'T always appear at or just before the major deaths... Sutter says it's another Shakespearian nod, that magical ghosts/spirits element... but not SO overt that if you choose to instead chalk it up to coincidence, that's fine, you can do that... Anyway, she was in 1.12, 1.13, 2.2, 2.9, 3.11, 4.10, 5.13, 6.9, 6.13, 7.12, and 7.13.

Shooting Happy in the arm... ouch.

I do think they had to end with Jax dying. Would not have liked him riding off to be on his own somewhere... (... and then he's in Alaska, working as a lumberjack...).

Title of the finale is 'Papa's Goods', which is the company Milo is driving for.

I really like that Chiklis is the one that took out Jax.

I like the song.

The show had its ups and downs over 92 episodes, but I'm way more positive on it than negative... I think it's ending at the right time, and pretty much ended in the 'right' way, though I won't be listing the finale with any of the all-time greats... but it's not going on the 'bad' list, either...

I'll always be interested in seeing whatever Sutter does next. He's got Katey on board again for his next FX project, The Bastard Executioner... okay... bring it on...

>> He'd be great if he put the story first instead of his own driven agenda.

I don't know what you mean. There's his needy 'Everybody Please Love Me' thing, but I don't think it really got in the way of the story...

Five seasons vs. seven... Yeah, there was some stretching to keep Jax from killing Clay a lot sooner, for sure... but the show's popularity well-warranted the seven, and it's almost a surprise they weren't pushed to find a way to go eight... (but Sutter seemed to have his heart set on seven pretty early on... think he was saying it as early as 2...)

Jax didn't kill Unser out of malice, though, and he DID give him several opportunities to leave. Wayne was just another obstacle... I do agree he very probably could still have achieved his goal (seeing out Gemma) WITHOUT shooting Wayne in the chest, but at that moment, he really needed the interruption out of the way...

But yes. Jax was right when he said "I'm not a good man. I'm a criminal and a killer." And of course, he ought to have gotten the kids safely away while Tara was still alive. Mistakes were made.

>> Ymmv, but I think he doesn't decide on a story to tell and the needs of the story and characters drive the story, but instead he actively looks for ways and reasons to show the most awful crap in the most awful context. Maybe he thinks that's being 'real' or 'brave.' imo he crosses the line into the whole violence-porn arena.

Okay... I half-agree... I do think he mostly lets characters drive story, BUT if there's a way to include (____, an awful thing), he'll find it and throw it in, yes.

He DID show some restraint this season... a lady deputy was in mortal danger... and did not die, though she was in such a bad spot that it seemed as though she would... and a mother/son witness pair Marks needed dead... kept thinking they'd die, but they did not...

>>The bigger stretch for me was the way the story drove Jax into such a dark place, because he WAS a good man, with a good heart, and a moral center...but the fatal flaw was his love of the club and the life.

I think that's the story that was being told (he WON last year - he GOT them out of GUNS!) ... up until Tara's death. Gertrude didn't murder Ophelia with a fork.

>> I think the show could have ended with Jax tragically dying as a consequence of his inability to untangle himself from all of his moral dilemmas, yet still with an innate goodness intact.

Yeah. They did not do that. Instead, he recognized that he was more, you know, 'bad', and whatever was left of his goodness... recognized that he needed to get the kids the hell out of Charming, that Tara was right all along. I like that he told Nero that the kids need to grow up hating him, and I hope they do, but... yeah. Abel might be irrevocably fucked. Hopefully, Nero and Wendy can be a stronger influence for him in the future (not that they're saints, themselves, of course, but... relatively speaking...) than his memories of Gemma and Jax...

It's been fun seeing a couple Sons together on Bates Motel this season, Ryan Hurst (Opie) and Kenny Johnson (Kozik)..

I like Hurst a lot...

Johnson is a series regular this year, after a few appearances last year. I like him, too, but I always think of his Shield character first...
