Sure there were role models for women. Just not the ones you--or I --wanted in easy and plentiful supply, anyway.

I don't know, I see Peggy and Joan as the most positive role models of the show. Bert Cooper was a decent guy but I think Peggy outshines him. Don and Roger are assholes. Roger is funny, so that makes it a little easier to like him. I really liked Faye Miller but Don would have never fully appreciated her. "Don't listen to Jane Fonda here," made me LOL. Peggy telling Don to write down all his dreams so she could shit on them was pretty funny, too. A little surprised Betty didn't recognize Glen at all, as he has a uniquely wooden way of carrying himself. That scene in the S1 finale when she talks to him outside his mother's car is one of my favorite of the series. Sally's disgust as Don and Betty "oozing" in the presence of an admirer was amusing. She'll likely become the thing she hates. It was nice for Joan to get a little romance but I didn't care much for the guy. Edited by bilki, Apr 20 2015, 10:54 PM.

I see something positive in almost all of the characters. Not Pete. Not Harry or Cutler but most have some redeeming characteristics. Don was milking Peggy's accomplishments/dreams in order to fuel/feed his writing assignment. She didn't know that. Maybe he was a jerk for doing it but honestly, he's at that very time of deep conflict about what he's doing. Failed marriages, kids he doesn't spend enough time with. No real friends except maybe Roger. He's coming to that middle stage of life when you question everything you've ever done, any accomplishment, hope, dream: all seem to have fallen short in either execution or result. He's meant well all along. Or at least, never meant harm and indeed, I think he hoped to be and to do good. Or at least good work. We may question his parenting (but not as much as Betty's although I would argue that Betty has been the better parent) but we don't doubt that he loves his daughter, and probably his sons and that he's been so much better a parent than he ever had growing up. So he never saw much past the surface of stuff, at least as a young man. But he's getting older now and he certainly is beginning to see deeper now, down to the flaws. Peggy had no idea of any of that, of course. I like Peggy and find her one of the most likeable characters on the show but she's hardly perfect. She doesn't treat her secretary --or other underlings very well. Not intentionally badly but she's under a lot of pressure and has no one really to help her, ever. She's insecure and has reason to be worried about her roles and how she's seen. I get it. She just doesn't. Neither does Joan, who has always thought that a man was the ticket to security. BTW, I don't like her new fella much, either. But if he's good to Joan, then ok. I had hoped that Joan and Roger would end up together at the end (I am a romantic) and also (ducking now) that Don and Peggy would as well, both having grown up a lot. I disliked Faye quite a bit. Don can be a good guy. Sometimes I forget about that side of him. The interchange between Don and Peggy was an unfortunate misunderstanding. I would have loved to see them have a thoughtful discussion about how the real experience of our dreams is often not what we expected. Don made a good point about something long-lasting in advertising but I can see how Peggy felt he was mocking her. She was truly opening up to him. Pete is just gross, IMO. Sorry, KMI! |

GAWWK: I meant that I hoped that Don and BETTY would get back together. Don/Peggy would be very gross. That scene with Peggy and Don really showed exactly what I meant about each of them. Don uses people without actually realizing he's using people and he was being fairly genuine in that exchange: he wanted to know Peggy's dreams because his have (mostly) run out. He respects/admires her as much as he feels that she's his protege. Peggy came looking for praise and was too impatient/insecure to realize that was what Don was getting at. She's like the adolescent who is on the brink of adulthood and still needs the praise of the parent but resents when it isn't as centered on her as she wants but that the parent also wants/needs something from the exchange. |

Yeah, Don and Peggy getting together was a bit puzzling. But we all like different things, lol. |

I watched episode 2. Did not like it at all. Too late in show to waste time on stuff like the waitress romance. Hated him giving Megan so much money. Can't stand her mother. I would much prefer stuff with the office. |

I've been pretty disappointed in the return. Too much spread too thin. I was hoping Megan would be already out of the picture. The Betty stuff just irks me and sort of creeps me out for some reason. |

I felt this was a nice bit of closure for Betty/Glen... Hope it's not the last we see of Sally, though. I didn't mind the Megan story, but I probably wouldn't have cared if they'd left it where it was at the end of last (half-)season, too. |

If that's the last we see of Sally that would stink as she's important to the show. I was glad that they gave Joan material in the episode even if it was with a newbie as she wasn't in the episode that aired last week. |

I think they are trying to get everything in and it is all watered down..I didn't need to see Megan or Betty and certainly not Glen. Very dull so far. |

It does feel as though there is a rush to make sure to include or touch upon every character before the end. I am not happy with where it looks like Joan and Roger are ending. I am glad that Peggy finally told someone her secret. |

I am a week behind, and will remain so as to watch the last 2 together. I think the season has been very blah and as I said before, a lot of stuff that seems unimportant and to trivial to waste time on, including, the waitress, Megan, Megan's mother, Glenn and his ongoing hots for Betty. I wish they'd get an appropriate romantic partner for Joan. This guy was too old, too short and not particularly attractive. So he has ditched his family and now expects Joan who is much younger to ditch her position and kid for what? She an still travel, but she has responsibilities. She can do better. Don was just trying to get ideas from Peggy, she is very defensive but then he can be such an ass. So far, underwhelmed. |

At least Roger and Joan are friends again. I liked how they interacted when they found out about the lease. What was interesting was reading that the actor who played Lane (Jared Harris) directed this episode. I was glad to hear that the guy who broke Peggy's heart (his name is escaping me..the other partner) who tried to stay in his marriage told us it failed. Good because of what he did his wife didn't deserve that. I liked seeing Trudy again, (one of the few characters that was tangental that made sense to show to explain how Pete is doing.) The material with Peggy and Stan was also good. |

The way things are playing out is pretty much what I'd expect from Weiner. I didn't figure he'd give us a final string of great episodes. After seeing the agency in this position before, it was a nice change to watch them have to accept it and go with being absorbed into McCann. I'm still worried for Joan, though, and I can see Don not liking being over. He seems to place a high value on his independence. Great scene with Peggy and Stan. I appreciated how they were coming from different points of view. Pleased me that Peggy talked about the kid. I know it wasn't something that happened back then but I still wish she'd get to see him before this is over. Though I wasn't a fan of Lou Avery, his call to Don made me chuckle. |

Thanks Ted how I forgot his name I don't know...I just get so distracted by the dumb mustache on Roger it is a passable look, but on him it is laughable. I'm worried for Joan too, Lou Avery's end was decent hope that's the last we see of him and wonder if that was Ken's last hurrah as what else is left for him. |

Roger's mustache is annoying. The first week, all I could think was that he looked too much like KFC's Colonel Sanders for me not to be distracted. I must be getting used to it, though, because it didn't bother much as much during this last episode.

The mustache looks absurd and I can't concentrate on his dialog without noticing it. It is very distracting. Why hasn't Don adopted the long hair and cheesy suits? |

I noticed that Don looks more polished than the other guys. Pete's hair is awful. Greasy and that bad comb-over. Ken's hair looks bad, too. I know some like Stan's beard but I think he looks like he needs a shower. Aside from Don, the men all look like a hot mess. If that makes me shallow, so be it. |
