Bored with this entire season and a truly blah end. |

I really resented him making Betty terminally ill. And the big trip wasted so much of the show which would have much better spent elsewhere. |

The last few episodes did seem like a hurried 'tie up all the loose ends; give everyone we can a happy ending.' That was disappointing. Quite a bit. The part re: Don's story that I *did* like was how, at the end, when the last woman he tries to rescue leaves him, and he's taken back to the 'session' and the fairly ordinary guy confesses to feeling invisible to his family and breaks down and Don goes over and hugs him, also breaking down. The person he always wanted/needed to heal was himself. A bit facile, but...I get it. I am so disappointed with the way Betty's sl ended although it is a bit on the nose that Henry wasn't actually seen and that Sally was trying to be mother and helpful rather than the snotty thing we've seen so much of. Of course, everyone still smokes.... Peggy/Stan: felt right that they ended up together but so sorry it was a rush at the end. Roger and the crazy French Canadian woman? No. Just: no. And I really like Julia Ormond. Did not like her character and I really hoped that Roger would have learned better at the end. I hope they don't actually marry. But glad he did right by his kid. |

Everyone did smoke pretty much into the 80s. Seemed it took awhile to get the message... I hated Roger and Megan's Mom too |

They're only up to the 70's.. I think I had ONE friend who smoked. Oh, another did, briefly, and NEVER in front of me. Or when we were living in the same city. My parents and inlaws smoked. People's parents smoked but among my age mates: people smoked weed, not tobacco. I didn't even do that because I hated my parents' smoking so much. |

When I was in dental school everyone smoked, even around patients who also smoked. This was 72 through 76 then through my grad programs 79 . I think I was the only Post doc student that did not smoke. Smoking was allowed even in anatomy and pathology labs. All the instructors smoked too and the medical students said it was the same. |

I did think the commercial was cool. I can't believe it was done so many years ago. |

Finally. A well-earned Emmy win for Jon Hamm (and I like that it was Tina Fey presenting it to him...) |

http://deadline.com/2016/10/matthew-weiner-series-amazon-weinstein-company-mad-men-creator-1201843020/ I had lunch with an old friend the other day, and he knows somebody that is a singer and was in the Like To Buy the World a Coke ad... apparently, the Mad Men usage royalties got her 180 grand last year... |

Wow that's awesome for an ad that is so old. :) I wonder how much of the royalty came from AMC and how much came from news outlets airing it. |

http://www.vulture.com/2016/11/all-the-shows-that-tried-to-be-the-next-mad-men.html Fun feature idea. Boardwalk Empire - Far closer to Sopranos than Mad Men, but I loved it. The Playboy Club - I saw the first one. Looked pretty, but shallow. Pan Am - I watched that. Cute ladies. Not terrible, not memorable. The Hour - Didn't see it... on the 'someday' list. Season 1 was on the dvr for a long time... The Pitch - No. The Crazy Ones - Saw the first couple. Didn't like it, but I miss Robin Williams... The Astronaut Wives - Didn't see it, but Yvonne Strahovski is gorgeous. The Americans - Like it a lot. Masters of Sex - Like it, haven't watched any of this season yet. Manhattan - Didn't watch it, but heard good things. The Knick - On the 'someday' list. Halt and Catch Fire - Like it a lot, haven't seen the last seven episodes... Vinyl - Still haven't watched the second half. Good Girls Revolt - Maybe someday. |

The Americans is set in a later time and really has nothing to do with anything Mad Men did. Ditto with Halt and Catch Fire. I did try Pan Am it really sucked as did the Playboy club. |

HaCF clearly influenced by MM, especially the first season. Americans, yeah, not as much... a period setting, but... |

Joe is Dick/Don in 1983... an impostor in expensive suits who uses pretty words to sell and mask how fucked up he is... Cameron's struggles and rise-to-power parallels Peggy somewhat... The status quo of who works-where-and-with/for-who changes quite a bit from year to year. That's not something a lot of shows do, but these two did/do... (okay, not as frequently as The Good Wife moved their people around in the last few seasons...) I mostly agree with Sepinwall's early reviews that discussed how HACF was kind of (like the computer) reverse-engineered from parts of other shows to be a 'quality drama'... but it found itself and became better and more unique in its second season. I say 'mostly' because I do think I enjoyed Season 1 more than he did... |
