Yes. Jack and Chloe for sure. Audrey now a definite maybe. Nobody else known as yet, but that doesn't mean there won't be more.

I like Raver, but I didn't like a lot of Audrey's material.

I wasn't ever much invested in Jack's romantic entanglements (as the show was always, you know, urgently about other stuff), but I think it's fine that he HAD a lasted-more-than-one-season love interest, and that was Audrey. She's not dead, so it's logical enough a plan to bring her back. Characters/relationships we know raises the dramatic stakes.

Cool that they'll be in London.

And we're picking up the story 'in real time', four years later.

Which is, like, three US Presidencies, right?

Audrey in for sure now. And her father, James Heller (William Devane). http://tvline.com/2013/10/04/audrey-raines-24-live-another-day-kim-raver-returning-event-series/

A movie never came together, but this did instead. 'Event series'... mini-series... it's 12 episodes instead of 24. It will still take place over 24 hours, they're just going to cheat the 'real time' thing (even more than they already did, you know, with getting-through-traffic impossibilities...).

It's set in London this time.

It's not set for sure when it's going to start... I've seen April, I've seen May... it's a 'summer show', but it might already be 5 or 6 shows in by the time summer starts...

Bits of a Fox press release -- Now an exile, he nevertheless is willing to risk his life and freedom to avert yet another global disaster. Tracking Jack are CIA head STEVE HARRIS (Benjamin Bratt, “Law & Order”); CIA agent KATE MORGAN (Yvonne Strahovski, “Dexter”), who is both resourceful and ruthless; JORDAN REED (Giles Matthey, “Jobs”), a smart and sophisticated CIA computer tech; and ERIK RITTER (Gbenga Akinnagbe, “The Wire”), a sharp, strong and arrogant field operative. Calling the shots is JAMES HELLER (William Devane, “The Dark Knight Rises”), now President of the United States. Heller is flanked by his Chief of Staff MARK BOUDREAU (Tate Donovan, “Damages”), who is married to Heller’s daughter – Jack’s former flame, AUDREY (Kim Raver, “Revolution”). Meanwhile, a hardened CHLOE O’BRIAN (Mary Lynn Rajskub, “Firewall”), Bauer’s CTU confidante, is now working underground with high-profile hacker ADRIAN CROSS (Michael Wincott, “The Crow”). Guest stars on 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY include Golden Globe Award winner Judy Davis (“Life with Judy Garland”) and Golden Globe Award nominee Stephen Fry (“Alice in Wonderland,” BONES). The harrowing day will have Jack attempting to thwart an unthinkable terrorist attack that could change the world forever.”

But Judy Davis has dropped out and is being recast.

Jack and Chloe are back to saving the world again tomorrow night, but they popped up last night, too, not being fans of Beyonce - http://www.hulu.com/watch/631154?playlist_id=2413#i0,p0%23i0,p0

Fun first couple hours. Nice to have it back. This is more satisfying than a feature film would have been. Plenty of good conflicts and set-ups already.

Strahovski's Kate looks a little like Kim.

Michelle Fairley is going to be a good villain.

John Boyega (the patsy drone pilot) has been cast in Star Wars Episode VII...

Season 9 Cast
-
Kiefer Sutherland -- Jack Bauer
Yvonne Strahovski -- Kate Morgan
Tate Donovan -- Mark Boudreau
Mary Lynn Rajskub -- Chloe O'Brian
William Devane -- President James Heller
Gbenga Akinnagbe -- Erik Ritter
Giles Matthey -- Jordan Reed
Michael Wincott -- Adrian Cross
with Benjamin Bratt -- Steve Navarro
and Kim Raver -- Audrey Boudreau

Six new people, four returns.
Chloe was recurring in Seasons 3-4, and a regular for 5-on.
Audrey was a regular in 4 and 5, and a recurring in 6.
Heller was a regular in 4, and a recurring in 5 and 6.

I still WOULD enjoy, I'm sure, a big-screen, bigger-than-tv-budget action movie with Jack Bauer as the hero ... never saying 'die', Kiefer says he'd still like to see that happen, and none of 'this' would have been in 'that', and they can/might still do 'that', 'someday'... but I think another tv season (or half-season, whatever) like this happens again, first.

Jack's mild curses of 'Damn it!' or 'son of a bitch' are also good ones to take a shot to (at least two of 'Damn it' last night...).

Or 'Put it on/send it to my screen'... that's something that seems to get said a lot...

She doesn't bother me.

I wouldn't want a recast, and they couldn't do this story without her.

Six years, since she wasn't on the last couple. But it's not a show that's ever done recasts...

Chloe looks kinda cool, though it's hard to disagree with those saying the Dragon Tattoo hacker thing is maybe a little too much 'on the nose'... really cool intro, though, her being on the receiving end of torture and Jack coming to the rescue... and though she feels personally betrayed by Jack a half-hour or so later, a half-hour after THAT, they're back to work like it's old times...

Jack's route into the embassy - Whee!

Chloe's family having been killed is very sad.

The eight seasons of the series killed off 15 of its 41 Main Cast members.
This new season adds 6 to make the new total 47... and Morris is the 16th death of a (past or present) series regular...

I like Michelle Fairley.

Simone is very pretty.

#5 takes Jack out of action for a whole hour, but gives him face-to-face reunions with Heller and Audrey (both good scenes).

Next week - Heller authorizes Jack suiting up and getting back to work.

I keep wanting to call Simone 'Sansa'.

http://www.tvguide.com/News/24-200th-Episide-Evan-Katz-Manny-Coto-1083047.aspx?

Okay, but I'd argue that the 'tv movie', Redemption bridging Seasons 6 and 7 counts as an episode (and for syndication purposes, you'd say it was two episodes...). I'd call tonight #201 and the finale #205... but they will have completed 206 hours of tv...

I do like that the lame 'Live Another Day' subtitle is for promotional use (and the end credits) only... that the on-screen opening title is still just '24', and Kiefer narrates 'Previously on 24'...

Jordan makes the 17th death of a cast regular (out of 47).

Glad to see Heller wasn't killed at the end of #8.

#9 ends the threat of Margot and the drones, but Navarro, Adrian, and the override device are what Jack has to deal with now...

And while Jack may have a Presidential pardon from the U.S., the Russians aren't as likely to say 'Hey, it's all cool now', and we've got Mark and his forged note...

Three hours left.

Adrian's death makes 18 of 47.

Recurring villain return - Tzi Ma as Cheng, from Seasons 4-6.

Cliffhanger is scary.

Two hours to go.

-

Sepinwall bit I like >> And because it's a familiar "24" big bad, the show can get away with introducing him so quickly. We know what he's about — and his history on the show ties in neatly with what's happening with both Jack (who may be on the way to another extended prison stay in a foreign country) and Audrey (who was herself imprisoned by Cheng) — and can thus shift straight into the end game for the season. It's completely ridiculous, but it's also "24."

They've been driving on the left.

Entire production has been done in London, nothing in Toronto. Subway must just look a lot like it...

No mention of Toronto in this week's credits... there are U.S. and U.K. casting departments... thanks to London Film Commission...

Do you mean a few weeks/hours ago? While I'd normally say 'Oh, it might be cheaper to shoot something in Toronto' (than LA, for sure) - here, I REALLY don't think that's the case since they've been doing the whole thing in London... mid-run, they're not going to move cross-continent...

My parents forgot (or didn't know) this was only half-a-normal-season, so the previews for the finale made them cry out 'No... it's not called TWELVE...'

Show will be at Comic-Con. I'm expecting a renewal announcement then.

-

Jack confronting Mark was really good.

Last hour looks pretty busy (and is going to span ahead, give us thirteen hours in one... So, a cross-country flight home, I'm thinking... wonder who's in that flag-draped casket in the preview...)
