That was exciting.

Audrey in the box (19 of 47).

Typical bleak 24 ending... and we momentarily HAD some closure... for Audrey and Cheng... for Mark (ha-HA!)... for Heller (his last speech was so sad)... for Kate, laying down her badge and gun... but then somebody had to go and grab Chloe...

The Russians. Trade. Bummer. Poor Jack.

So Season 9 ends a little like 5 did (when Jack was being taken by Cheng to China...).

There will be more.

Heller's speech was sad indeed. I was not sorry to see her go..
Now that is the definitive end of the Hellers though. Why do you think there will be more?

Lucrative franchise for Fox. Kiefer, Rajskub, and the producers had a good time.

'Jack in captivity' is a fine SEASON ending, but I'd expect the SERIES to have more 'closure' than that... (of course, the series DID originally end with 'Jack on the run', and that's similarly unsatisfying... but at the time, they were thinking 'feature film re-launch'...)

I'll be surprised if they don't do another one.

Killing Jack WAS considered... http://www.deadline.com/2014/07/24-live-another-day-season-finale-howard-gordon-spoiler/
I was worried they might. I'm glad they didn't.

I don't want it to go on and on and on... but I do think they can get away with one more - next year, or two years from now - and then another good long 4 or 5 year rest, and then, hey... maybe another 'surprise, here's another one'...

Manny Coto >> Now, with Jack in Russia, I think there’s a lot of fun to be had with Jack in Moscow. My fantasy is that Jack arrives in Moscow and the Russians tell him, “We don’t want to actually incarcerate you or screw with you; we actually need you,” and he’s off on a whole other adventure.

I thought of that, as well.

Cool, there's a short story piece on the new blu-ray release catching us up with Tony Almeida. http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/09/26/24-live-another-day-tony-almeida-solitary-dvd/

I got the blu-ray recently, but haven't had the time to watch the Tony short yet.

Interview with Kiefer saying he THINKS he's 'done' with Jack, but... he leaves wiggle-room, too.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/11298675/kiefer-sutherland-interview.html

I would be surprised if they NEVER do another mini-series like this one. But I won't be surprised if the 'time-out' is another year or two...

I wouldn't mind if it started without him, but he joined midway (or the end, but then another run was promised a year later). But yes, he'd be missed...

LOL! Now tell us how you really feel. ;) I feel the same way '24' without Jack isn't '24'.

I may be open to the idea of a new lead, but they can't 'weave Jack in and out', at least in their first attempt... we should see a team of people working on getting Jack out of Russia...

I'm just not buying this. 24 without Jack is not going to work. It will just be another show... I don't care what kind "real time concept" they have!

ITA, no Jack, no 24. They can have another show with a similar style but it won't be 24.

I'm in. Of course this means the show won't have a prayer of 'surviving'. :P

I think it would be a mistake to not have ANY returning characters, since they have so many available (yes, a lot died, but some of them didn't...)

I agree Dax, bad enough that 24 was Jack Bauer, if your'e going to do a whole new reboot...then you can't use the logo without something familiar to tie to it.

It'll be familiar enough with the music and the split screens and such, but... No, I don't think fans will be satisfied with only REFERENCES (or stock photos) to people we know... We should have somebody we know in the story, as well.

I am open to this, if it's good. It's not like they fired Kiefer - he's moved on, but 'never say never', and keeping the franchise alive, I think, INCREASES our chances of getting Jack back someday. Unless it's terrible, and it crashes and burns and then nobody wants ANY 24 again...

But from the same people... Nah, I trust they can successfully do the show with a new cast (since so many seasons DID have mostly-new casts...).

But it'll be easier to invest in newbies if there's the promise of some returning characters, as well (like, you know, Star Wars just did...).

Husband's direct quote about 24 without Jack ... "That's a suck ass".

I just can't get excited about this.

I just finished watching Heroes Reboot or whatever it was called and it was very disappointing.

I have no desire to ever go back and watch Heroes 4 or Reborn. I shouldn't have given it three years, really, but I guess there were some cute girls...

Curious about 24: Legacy. Not excited, but... I'll give it a chance, and still hope they slip characters we know into it (though they keep claiming they intend not to).

Funny, since her role on Homeland this season was a very familiar type of 24 character...

The 24 Reboot made the Jeers & Cheers section of the TV Guide under the Jeers section (Not surprised).
"Jeers to Fox's Jack Bauer-Less 24 Reboot"
"Damn it, Chloe! Despite what Kiefer Sutherland and the powers-that-be say, the show's ticking-clock concept is not the star at all. CTU's craziest agent is. No Bauer, no thank you"

I have to agree with them...

http://www.ew.com/article/2016/03/04/scandal-actor-joins-24-legacy-cast

Article mentions Charlie Hofheimer (Mad Men) and I had to say 'Who?' and google... he was Abe, Peggy's boyfriend...

Likely to go to series.
Likely to be 12 episodes, instead of 24.

Hm. The 'no returning characters' thing still bugs me (and I distrust it), but if it's in the same world as what has gone before, I'd much rather CALL it 'Season 10' than '24 Legacy: Season 1'...

Browsing the 24 wiki...

This show was/is totally crazy.

In the 'best not to think about it too closely' department... The nine seasons of show cover (with all the time jumps between seasons) about 18 1/2 years. Did Jack and Chloe and Kim seem to age that much?...

2 takes place 18 months after 1.
3 takes place 3 years after 2.
4 takes place 18 months after 3.
5 takes place 18 months after 4.
6 takes place 20 months after 5.
Redemption (2008 2 hr strike season episode/'tv movie') takes place 44 months after 6.
7 takes place 2 months after Redemption.
8 takes place 18 months after 7.
9 takes place 4 years after 8.

(I haven't seen it yet, but the Tony short on the 9 blu-ray is three years after 9, says Wikipedia.. Wonder if there's an on-screen card to say so... Anyway, that puts the total story time at over twenty years, if true...)

There were ten or eleven Presidents in those nine seasons.
-
Harry Barnes (unseen, Season 1)
David Palmer (2-3) (dies in 5)
James Prescott (VP, 'Acting President' while Palmer recovers from an assassination attempt between 2 & 3)
John Keeler (4)
Charles Logan (4-5)
Hal Gardner (after Logan is arrested at the end of 5)
Wayne Palmer (6) (coma when we leave him, but he later dies off-screen)
Noah Daniels (6, R)
Allison Taylor (R, 7-8)
Mitchell Hayworth (after Taylor resigns at the end of 8)
James Heller (9) (going to resign when we leave him, due to his Alzheimer's)

>> No President on 24 has ever been re-elected. David Palmer did not run for re-election, John Keeler and Wayne Palmer were incapacitated, Charles Logan was arrested and removed from office, Noah Daniels lost to Allison Taylor, and Allison Taylor and James Heller resigned from office. Assuming they became President, Hal Gardner and Mitchell Hayworth either did not run for a full term of their own, or lost their re-election bids to Wayne Palmer and James Heller respectively.

>> David Palmer is the only President to serve a full term on 24. His brother Wayne, ironically, was the shortest-lasting President seen on the show, being in office for only around three months. Noah Daniels, who served out the remainder of Wayne's term, is therefore the show's second-longest-serving President.

None of the casting info for Legacy has mentioned a President yet.

Only Jack, of course, was in all 205 episodes.
Chloe was in 137.
Tony was in 115.
Nobody else over 100...
David was in 80, Kim was in 79... Audrey and Bill in 64, Michelle in 62...
Most frequently seen never-a-regular was Mike Novick, in 58 (1-2, 4-5), and then Aaron Pierce, in 49 (1-7).

I just don't know. Sure I guess I'll give it a try but I'm not happy. No Jack/Chloe kind of makes me really sad.
