Watched the first hour and would have watched the second but too many distractions with the guests here. I really liked it. It has a sort of "Killing" atmosphere with Elisabeth Moss well cast as a savvy female detective in a very chauvanistic New Zealand town. A bit soapy but I am sure I'll be in it to the end. |

When I watched during the original airing, I missed much of the first hour. So, I re-watched the full two hours and enjoyed it more the second time around. The scenes with GJ and her wacky crew were what I liked best about it. I appreciated that GJ was "out there" but she wasn't spouting the usual New Age bullshit. Loved how she responded to the father who wanted to leave his teenage daughter there with the group. While I love Elizabeth Moss as Peggy Olson, she didn't do anything that WOW-ed me here. Part of it may be the accent. The actor playing the controlling father is intriguing, though. The writer of one of the reviews I read had only positive things to say about the third hour, so I'm looking forward to tonight's episode. |

I am looking fwd to the next 2 hours. No use watching with the guests here, too much chatter and this show takes some concentration. I like Moss in the role a lot. |

I am enjoying this show, have not seen the last one. Find the accents hard though. |

I'm enjoying it, too. And feel the same about accents. There are times I haven't a clue what they're saying. Trying to watch each episode twice to get a full grasp on what's happening. WOW, is this show beautiful to look at! Some of the scenery is breath-taking. Almost makes me want to get an HD tv. Last week's episode was pretty good. I was surprised by how some of it played out, as I thought we might have to wait a few more episodes to learn more about Robin's rape. I was intrigued by the turn it took at the end of the episode. |

Yes, it also makes me want to go there as well. What a terrain! Friends who have been say it is breath taking. I can't imagine the flights though... |

We upgraded our cable and finally get Sundance so I can see the show. I marathoned the first 3, so am almost caught up, I think. Didn't watch the 4th because I wanted to see Mad Men. Like the show and am glad for the recommendation. |

Are you watching it in HD, tgir? If so, I'm a bit jealous. Looking forward to hearing thoughts about episode four from both of you. |

I am watching in HD and the landscape is amazing. Funny to see Moss in both shows now. I like her in both anyhow, and she carries off this one very well. |

No, Sundance isn't in HD in my area, or at least, I haven't found it in HD yet. A few years ago, our tv died and we upgraded to HD then and yes, it is fabulous although it was weird to get used to at first. Hubby likes it for soccer and now wants a giant 60 in tv--which we will NOT be getting unless one of us wins really big in the lottery. House needs far too much to contemplate that plus I only have used/cast off furniture that is decades past its prime in the living room, so: not a priority. Wanted to say that I continue to be disturbed by the prevalence of rape and especially the rape of young (and it seems ever younger) girls in film, and television shows. I am all too aware of the prevalence in real life but cannot quite get away from the thought that part of the interest in telling these stories in the entertainment media is prurient. |

It took me a few episodes to adjust to Moss here. I kept thinking of her as Peggy during the first two hours. She's quite a different character here, though, so that helped. Plus, her features look much softer here. She's beautiful in a way that I've not seen her as Peggy. Peggy is much more pointed and rigid, not that I'm complaining. |

Only surface skimming as I haven't started watching this yet... >> She's beautiful in a way that I've not seen her as Peggy. Moss is a beautiful lady (often understated when discussing Peggy, sure), but I remember her being 'hot' and sexy as a bad girl on ABC's Invasion... |

The MM character of Peggy is very uptight and the way they dressed for work then rather feeds into that steriotype. Seeing her in running clothes and parkas makes her seem more reachable I think. She is good to carry of both these roles so very well. I do not think she is beautiful but very interestng looking, and I am delighted that she does not look like one of those botoxed mummys I see on so many shows. |

Anyone watch the whole series? I thought the ending was quite powerful. |

It was a mini-series, so it's unlikely there will be more. I enjoyed it. So beautiful to look at, and Moss was pretty great. She really grew on me in that role as it progressed. But I was disappointed in how they wrapped up the mystery surrounding Tui. I didn't really believe Matt was the father of Tui's baby. And I agree with those who think Al lied about that in order to cover up his involvement with the teens in the barista program. I just wished we'd gotten some follow-up to that after Robin found out what was going on in Al's basement. Also didn't care for Robin finding out she was Johnno's half sibling only to have it redacted less than an hour later. Why even broach the subject of an incestual relationship if you're just going to make it go away in a few minutes? The scene with Jamie sliding down that hill wearing Tui's coat was beautifully horrifying! WOW! |

I didn't hear the part where they were declared not related? Glad of that. It was so hard to understand sometime I missed some of it. I really wish they had expanded the ending some as well. |

I had trouble hearing as well, but I believe that they said that Matt wasn't Johnno's father. That said, it is hard to give any credence to what Al said. On the other hand, Robin could certainly access the test results herself....That part was unsatisfying, to not know for certain. |

Really enjoyed this, watched it all over two days. Love Moss. Liked everybody in the cast... Jude (Robin's mother; actress Robyn Nevin) strongly resembled Jane Campion, I think, and Anita (commune woman that Matt had a short affair with; actress Robyn Malcolm) reminded me a lot of Mary Kay Place... I was ahead of both the Robin-is-Matt's-daughter and Al-is-the-bad-guy twists, but that didn't deter the suspense... I didn't know who would live or die. Agree it was convenient to almost immediately negate Robin-and-Johnno-are-half-siblings (Krystal, Al handed Johnno a file and said it looked like his mother experienced 'midwinter madness', too - Matt was not his father), but that's a happier ending than NOT doing it, so... I'm good with it. Why did they go there in the first place, then? To totally break Robin ('to her knees'), which wouldn't have happened WITHOUT that particular reveal... Matt's not the father of Tui's baby. Al was. I didn't need MUCH more (resolution) than we got, but the last scene (GJ leaves, Tui doesn't want her to) did end a little abruptly, I agree with that... Funny. Moss' role was originally offered to Anna Paquin, who couldn't do it due to her pregnancy last year... I'm pretty sure I see Moss-as-Robin more comfortably, but that full Piano Campion/Hunter/Paquin reunion would have been fun to see... |

http://www.screendaily.com/news/top-of-the-lake-to-return-for-second-series/5078651.article Huh. Since Moss-in-True Detective-2 didn't happen, I'd love to see her back in more of this... |
