64-episode, 3-season gem of a show from 2004-07... has had 'We want to do a movie' follow them along ever since cancelation... and now, it's going to happen. Kickstarter campaign... they need $2 million in 30 days... they're more than halfway to goal in under six hours. This is awesome news. http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/03/13/veronica-mars-movie-kristen-bell-kickstarter/ http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/kristen-bell-and-rob-thomas-launch-veronica-mars-movie-kickstarter-campaign http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/559914737/the-veronica-mars-movie-project Were I wealthier person, I'd be in for $200, as a signed-by-Rob-and-eight-or-so-cast-members movie poster would be fun to have, but, um, NOT being particularly affluent... I'm in for $50 (along with 3,687 others at the time of this writing...). I have to have a dvd, and while, sure, there will eventually be a non-kickstarter release I could obtain much more cheaply, hopefully this would have exclusive extras... (and hey, a t-shirt, and pdf of the script...) I've contributed to 24 other kickstarter projects in the last few years (mostly comics and art books, but a few films - Lynch 3; I Am Big Bird; Catherine Dent's short film, Silk; Phil Tippett's Mad God; Charlie Kaufman's Anomalisa) and three indiegogo projects (but two of those were by personal friends...). I like the crowdfunding model a lot. But this is just super-exciting... I love when long-thought-dead things come back to life. Fox canceling Family Guy (twice) and dvd sales forcing a remount, and its success ever since... Joss getting to make Serenity... Futurama came back... Netflix putting Arrested Development back together again... We're getting a Veronica Mars movie. |

It'll be in Neptune and probably won't involve any of the Season 4 plan, but if Rob loved that FBI idea enough, I suppose Veronica could have been an agent IN the last ten years... Shawn Ryan tweets "Very interested to see how this Veronica Mars kickstarter goes. Could be a model for a Terriers wrap up film." I'd love that, too (but will settle for a Terriers dvd, still think it's a rotten shame there isn't one...). |

Very cool. I like that there are 'big pockets' guys that believe in making cool things happen, and aren't exclusively my-money-has-to-make-MORE-money-for-me. The inevitable criticism - http://www.theatlanticwire.com/entertainment/2013/03/kickstarter-kind-of-annoying-isnt-it/63060/ Fun thing I noticed - one of the five projects that Rob Thomas has backed is also 'one of mine', the children's book 'Erf' by Garth Ennis (a comic book writer I like and met a few times at Comic-Con) and Rob Steen (who illustrates Ricky Gervais' Flanimals books). My name is on a 'Special thanks' page in the back, and I'm enjoying reading it to various classes I sub for... http://www.amazon.com/Erf-Garth-Ennis/dp/0615629679/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363219259&sr=8-1&keywords=Erf |

And TVLine's story, with plot suggestions - http://tvline.com/2013/03/13/veronica-mars-movie-2014-spoilers/#1/vmideas_fbi/ Huh, I'd forgotten that Walton Goggins was in the Season 4 proposal... Variety's story - http://variety.com/2013/more/news/veronica-mars-kickstarter-reaches-1-million-in-funds-1200194274/ In ten hours. Wow. Figured it would be under a day, but... that's really impressive. Funny, because cnn had just done a Where Are They Now? story on the cast on Monday - http://www.cnn.com/2013/03/11/showbiz/tv/veronica-mars-where-are-they-now/index.html inspired by the recent chance meeting https://twitter.com/IMKristenBell/status/306996876983537665 between Bell, Colantoni, and Max Greenfield (from New Girl, who was Deputy Leo...). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpMUqByp6ks http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/so-the-veronica-mars-kickstarter-succeeded-now-what |

Plot, from the EW print edition article (online version left this out) - Veronica's returning to her hometown of Neptune, CA, after much schooling (a bachelor's from Stanford; a Columbia Law School degree) when she gets a distress call from ex-boyfriend Logan: His pop-star girlfriend has been murdered, and he's the prime suspect. They shot the campaign video in February 2012; Bell and Thomas hoped to launch last spring, but WB slowed things down, wanting to more thoroughly investigate the business model... |

Dohring, Colantoni, and Hansen are very much givens, but Rob wants 'the whole band' back together... Alan asks 'Okay, high school... so we won't necessarily see Parker or Piz?' Rob - 'Nope, they're in my outline' - he hopes to get them, too... They are fortunate that most of the cast works in tv and will be on hiatus at more or less the same time... http://www.buzzfeed.com/adambvary/joss-whedon-on-kickstarter-and-firefly Don't bug Joss, but really, geeks, that's totally obvious, you shouldn't even ask... he's WAAAAAAAAY too busy with Marvel for AT LEAST the next three years (and I would be surprised if he is not involved with a Star Wars project in the next seven or so years)... we're going to be lucky if he can squeeze in Dr. Horrible 2, we should not be begging for more Firefly at this time... http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/has-veronica-mars-kickstarter-campaign-428903 But Fuller's going to be looking into Pushing Daisies (and/or Wonderfalls), and that's fun. |

Hitting $4 million today - and probably a lot more, because of this: >> As of right now, residents of the following countries can pledge to the Veronica Mars Kickstarter Project: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, UK. >> Our first nine reward levels are open to overseas backers. Thank you so much for your patience. We're so happy to have you aboard. 16 days to go. |

Over $5 million... 48 hours left... ooh, they've added stickers - cool designs (including the t-shirt I'm not getting) - I'd rather they were buttons than stickers, but that's still a pretty cool little bonus... I don't expect they're going to make their desired 'most backers ever' record, but that's okay... they've broken enough of them... I did some quick addition yesterday - the cast has to autograph more than 4,600 posters... |

91,585 backers pledged $5,702,153 for Rob Thomas to make a Veronica Mars feature film this summer. They got 285% of their $2 million goal. Fastest Kickstarter project to reach $1 million. Fastest Kickstarter project to reach $2 million. All-time highest-funded project in FILM category. Third highest-funded project in Kickstarter history. Most project backers of any project in Kickstarter history. Nice. I am happy for them, and I'm looking forward to the film. I was one of 23,227 people to pre-order a dvd and t-shirt for $50... another 22,997 people paid $35 for a digital download of it instead... 7,260 paid $100 for a blu-ray instead, and many, many more paid more for the high-end stuff beyond that... Rob and the cast have to autograph more than 5,500 posters that fans paid $200 or more to have... http://www.wired.com/underwire/2013/04/rob-thomas-interview-veronica-mars-kickstarter/ |

They didn't, but I wouldn't really expect them 'til next March or so (along with the movie...). (I did get a nice set of postcards from one project (the stop-motion Phil Tippett short film, Mad God) early on - while the film is still in production, and one late long-after-the-other-stuff bonus item from another (the comic book Flaming Carrot), but most people/projects will send out everything at once, if they can...) What did you think of last night's Glee? |

The VM people had made a comment about the shirts coming sometime this year before the movie is done. From their FAQ section (the stickers aren't mentioned.) As you can tell, we’ve tried to come up with a variety of cool rewards. Because there are so many different items, and because we don’t know how many backers we’ll end up with, we don’t know exactly when each item will ship. But we do have a ballpark idea for each item: Updates will begin during the Kickstarter campaign. They’ll continue until the film is released. T-shirts will ship shortly after the Kickstarter campaign ends. We need to get your size information and print the T-shirts, so it will take a little time. But we hope to get them sent out in May. First three seasons of Veronica Mars DVDs will be sent out around the same time as the T-shirts. Set visits will occur during our filming window of June-July 2013. Video greetings and voicemails will be recorded on-set and will be delivered to you in the fall. We may be able to get some of them done sooner, but no promises. Posters (signed and unsigned) will be ready sometime between shooting and the film’s release. So you’ll probably receive your poster in late 2013. The premiere and after-party will occur shortly before the film’s theatrical release. That’s a long time away, and we’ve got a lot of schedules to coordinate, so we can’t say for sure when these will get scheduled. But our best guess is January 2014. We’ll keep you posted, of course. The pdf of the shooting script will be emailed to you the day the film is released. Digital versions of the film will be available within a few days of the film’s release. We’ll know more about the exact timing as the release date approaches and we’ll keep you posted. DVDs and Blu-Ray combo packs will be shipped a month or two after the theatrical release. Okay to Glee... That Glee was a bit disturbing as it should have been due to the subject matter. Some people said that it was too soon after what happened in CT, but something like that happened at my high school in the 90s. So it is a timeless topic. Edited by blosslover, Apr 13 2013, 11:40 AM.

Cool. I'd expect the stickers when the shirts ship out, then. I thought the Glee was really well done, appropriately terrifying and sad. A tone change from the usual show, of course, but I wasn't bothered by it... Also different was that they only did three songs, but that one was Brittany singing 'More Than Words' to Lord Tubbington... I was very happy with that. And then I liked the shooter revelations, too. Sue covering for Becky makes perfect sense (even if Becky's terror/bad choice may not have been entirely well prepared...), and Lynch played her scenes perfectly. I don't think this means Sue is off the show (and I hope not), but after seeing any number of cartoonish-but-still atrocious acts (pushing kids down stairwells, etc.) that Sue SHOULD have been fired for, I'm cool with her not being at McKinley any more, for whatever reason... |

Re: Kickstarter: I'm not going to back this http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1869987317/wish-i-was-here-1 ... can't afford it, and the first thing up the rewards ladder that I'd really be interested in (signed dvds of the film, and of Garden State) is $150, so I REALLY can't afford it, but I will be tracking its progress with interest, as I loved Zach Braff's first film, Garden State (which I saw prior to seeing any of Scrubs)... looks like he'll easily coast to his goal... I look forward to seeing the film 'someday'... - Re: Veronica. Diane Ruggiero (one of the show's main co-writers) co-writing the screenplay with Thomas. Cool. |
