First five hosts -

9/25 - Amy Poehler
10/2 - Bryan Cranston
10/9 - Jane Lynch
10/23 - Emma Stone
10/30 - Jon Hamm (3rd time)

Excited about four of those five (don't really know Stone, just that she is a cute girl).

-

Will Forte is out. Jenny Slate was let go. Don Pardo may retire (he'll be sending in tapes from AZ instead of being live in NY), but he's said that before. There are four new featured players - one is a black guy, but the word is that Armisen will still be Obama for now.

-
Season 36 Cast
-
Fred Armisen - 9th season
Abby Elliott - 3rd season
Bill Hader - 6th season
Seth Meyers - 10th season
Bobby Moynihan - 3rd season
Andy Samberg - 6th season
Jason Sedeikis - 7th season
Kenan Thompson - 8th season
Kristen Wiig - 6th season
Featuring
Vanessa Bayer - New
Paul Brittain - New
Nasim Pedrad - 2nd season
Taran Killam - New
Jay Pharoah - New

Promoted up from Featured - Elliott and Moynihan (first ones since Wiig, it's been awhile...)
Out - Forte after 8, Slate after 1 as a Featured.
Newbies - Bayer, Brittain, Killam, and Pharoah.

I hate Armisen as Obama. I also hate Armisen as I heard he is the one who broke up with Peggy (Mad men) why don't I know her name?

We didn't have a thread last season, because I was lazy (and maybe nobody else cared...). But I'm a big geek for trivia and stuff for this show (at least as much as I was for GL), so here's a rundown on Season 35, from my scribbled notes...

Cast
-
Fred Armisen - 8th season
Will Forte - 8th and final season
Bill Hader - 5th season
Seth Meyers - 9th season
Andy Samberg - 5th season
Jason Sedeikis - 6th season
Kenan Thompson - 7th season
Kristen Wiig - 5th season
Featuring
Abby Elliott - 2nd season
Bobby Moynihan - 2nd season
Nasim Pedrad - New
Jenny Slate - New, only season, memorably said 'fuck' in her first episode

Cast differences from Season 34 - Amy's gone after eight, Darrell's gone after setting the longest-run record at 14 (Tim Meadows is in second with 10, but Seth Meyers will tie him with Season 36)... Michaela Watkins out after being a featured in just 15 shows (bummer, I liked her), Casey Wilson out after her second year as a featured.

Season 35 - 22 shows, 3 Thursday editions, 2 new clip specials, another excellent 'decade' documentary, and the first character-based feature film in ten years (MacGruber).

Hosts -

12 First-timers - Megan Fox, Ryan Reynolds, Gerard Butler, Taylor Swift, January Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Blake Lively, Taylor Lautner, Zach Galifianakis, Ryan Phillipe, Gaborey Sidibe, Betty White.

7 Second-timers - James Franco, Charles Barkley, Sigourney Weaver, Jon Hamm, Jennifer Lopez, Jude Law, Tina Fey.

Drew Barrymore did her 6th show. Double record-holder - besides being the Youngest Ever Host, she's also now the Woman Who Has Hosted The Most Times.

Ashton Kutcher did his 4th.

Alec Baldwin did his 15th, and is now TIED with Steve Martin for the record. For several years, he's stayed one behind because they'd each do one...

Alumni visits -

Amy Poehler on two Saturdays and two of the Thursdays.
Darrell Hammond on three Saturdays and all three Thursdays.
Maya Rudolph on one Thursday and the Betty White show.
Tina Fey hosted once (her 2nd time) and was on the Betty White show.
Also on the Betty White show - Ana Gasteyer, Molly Shannon, and Rachel Dratch.

Surprise guests - Brian Austin Green, Madonna, Scarlett Johansson, Elijah Wood, Justin Long, The Rock, James Franco, Al Gore, Mindy Kaling, Mike Tyson, Jack McBrayer, James Cameron, Paul Rudd, Jeremy Sisto, Anthony Anderson, Jane Krakowski, Dr. Oz, Brian Williams, Jerry Seinfeld, Julian Casablancas, Mark Sanchez, Steve Martin (twice), Chaka Khan, and I've probably missed some... writer John Mulaney got a Weekend Update segment in the 20th show...

Christmas special had new bridging material (Gilly) with Wiig, Moynihan, Forte, Thompson, Elliott, and Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin.

Sports special had new bridging material with Sudeikis and Forte (Pete Twinkle and Greg Stink, the ESPN Classics guys). Hm, I'm gonna miss those guys (after five appearances plus this special)... might have been the year's strongest new recurring sketch...

Though it was disappointing as a piece of comedy, every longtime SNL fan should see Funny or Die's big Presidential Reunion sketch directed by Ron Howard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAfrBr5vbMU with Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph, Will Ferrell, Darrell Hammond, Dana Carvey, Chevy Chase, and Dan Akyroyd as their familiar characters (plus Jim Carrey as Reagan).

I haven't seen MacGruber yet, but several of my friends loved it.

-

No Justin Timberlake last season - bummer.

Gordon-Levitt was good.

Jon Hamm is an excellent host. He's great here, and he's great on 30 Rock (and will be doing their live episode next month, too).

January Jones was a terrible host. (Another MM/SNL couple - she's with with Sudeikis...)

I love Zach Galifianakis. I love Betty White (the Delicious Dish sketch was a lot of fun).

I hate Gilly, but it was a funny-enough bit with Drew Barrymore's Gigli.

I'll miss Forte for his singing... and I liked him in general, but I'm fine with people moving on from SNL after 6 years or so - he did 8, that's fine, that's enough...

I thought Slate was alright - she's cute, she was good on Bored To Death, I hear her web short is fun (haven't watched it yet)... the three Tina Tina Chanuse sketches (doorbells/car horns/alarm clocks) made me laugh.

I like 'What Up With That?' (so far... four in... it can't run too many more times...). Especially Sudeikis dancing in the red suit.

My favorite musical guests were U2 and Dave Matthews Band...

>> I hate Armisen as Obama.

I think he's okay... it's grown on me... but I wouldn't mind new blood taking it on, either. The new guy is said to be a great impressionist, and he does an Obama, so...

>> I also hate Armisen as I heard he is the one who broke up with Peggy (Mad Men) why don't I know her name?

Elisabeth Moss. Dunno what happened there, but (besides being an outstanding actress) she is one of those super-wacky Scientologists, so...

I like Armisen. I'm looking forward to his 6-show IFC series, Portlandia.

Jon Hamm is like the new Alec Baldwin when it comes to SNL. He is hilarious!

Darrell Hammond will be sorely missed. :(

Supposedly Abby Elliott was involved in the break up of Armisen and Moss. I'm surprised Jon Hamm is back again this early in the season though if that ties in with the 30 Rock episode promotion it sort of fits.

I hope we have no fiasco episodes like the January Jones one anytime soon.

Did not know Moss was into that, but I did hear he left her for someone else. Hmmm.

I missed the first one, was Hamm the host?

I saw part of the Jones one, she was terrible.

First one of the season is next Saturday, 9/25 (Amy Poehler hosting). Hamm will host (for the third time, and second time this year) the day before Halloween.

Fun first show. Glad we got Katy Perry in an Elmo shirt. Good to see Rachel, Tina, Jimmy, Maya, and Justin Timberlake pop up... the real David Paterson bit wasn't particularly funny, but people will remember it...

When alums such as Amy host, it's like there's not REALLY a 'guest'...

Especially since Amy hasn't been gone for years, if someone comes back and the majority of the cast are people they didn't work with it feels more like we are getting a guest host...

I missed the first 30 minutes...argh.

Fun - newbie Paul Brittain (who did Johnny Depp really well the other night) is Bob Newhart's nephew.

I'll be watching OWN for the first time on Sunday... a 'Master Class' show with Lorne Michaels as subject.

Meanwhile, excited about the 2/5 show, with Dana Carvey hosting (fourth time ever, but first since October 2000 - been too long...).

This week, the host is new Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg.

Yes I am looking forward to seeing Dana Carvey, I understand now why it seems like forever. I watch two shows on OWN (but will watch that Master Class episode thanks for the reminder.) The shows I watch are the Oprah behind the scenes show which is really interesting as a television enthusiast and the reality show to get a talk show because it is just oddly entertaining.

Final hosts announced for the season (Tina Fey on 5/7, Ed Helms on 5/14, Justin Timberlake on 5/21), so I can do the host stats now (but I'll wait 'til it's all over to do the 'surprise guests/alumni' lists).

Hosts in Season 36
-
10 first-timers - Amy Poehler, Bryan Cranston, Jane Lynch, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, Russell Brand, Miley Cyrus, Elton John, Helen Mirren, and Ed Helms.

5 second-timers - Anne Hathaway, Paul Rudd, Jeff Bridges, Jim Carrey, and Zach Galifianakis.

5 third-timers - Jon Hamm, Scarlett Johansson, Robert De Niro, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Tina Fey.

2 fourth-timers - Dana Carvey and Justin Timberlake.

No five-or-more people this year.

Alec and Steve continue to hold the record as a tie, 15 times each.
