Gate, I just watched those 2 shows. Had them taped but took forever. Laura Linney did look all dolled up compared to some roles in which she has looked quite plain. She seems an intelligent person though and I usually like her stuff.

Wow, Patinkin really was out of it? Did he even know who Colbert is or what he does? I never liked Patinkin as he always seemed like he had a huge opinion of himself, and this really seemed the case here. it's like he knows it all and will let you know it. No sense of humor or irony. Colbert must have needed a drink (or maybe a bottle) after that one.

Of course. Agree that he was a bit strange there, but I didn't read him as humorless.

Love him on Homeland. Respect his quitting Criminal Minds for morality-over-money reasons. Didn't like what I saw of Chicago Hope (one of the David E. Kelley shows I skipped - started the same time as ER, and preferred ER for being the 'everyday' stuff, and its fast and furious pace, where CH was always about some big medical procedure that had never been done before...).

And you know, he's Inigo Montoya, and you killed his father. Prepare to die.

This is the first show I actually like him on (Homeland). I didn't like CH, probably because he was on it, and never watched CM till he was gone.

I still think he is a self absorbed asshole and don't like him at all.

I didn't really remember him from anything else but Homeland and loved him but now my view of him is slightly tainted. He was just so weird and not fun during the interview. Uncomfortable is the word I would use for the audience and for Stephen.

Thank GOD the boys are back on! 3 weeks is too long for this girl without her boys!

Big Broadway star... I remember liking (a video of) his Sunday in the Park with George with Bernadette Peters (after my college did a fine production of it). But 'Princess Bride' is a pretty universal trigger for people who can't place him...

But as uncomfortable as the interview was, there didn't feel like any tension throughout the four takes of the song, right?

I hated the break as well. Glad to see them no matter who is the guest.

Well Mandy was definitely the serious one of the group! He wasn't 'fun' like Stephen or Michael Stipe but there wasn't any tension. I just didn't get the feeling that Mandy was a 'fan' of the show so he didn't quit get all the hidden humor. I still find it funny that they did 4 takes of the song and they ended up with the first one ... like I figured they should.

Very cool to get to see both show. Or even one.

Now for my 6 degrees of separation link to fame: On the Jan 9 2013 Jon Stewart Show's moment of zen: the mixologist Jonny Michaels is my daughter's boss (kinda. She works as a bar back for him. Different (very fancy) venue than the one on the clip.

Oh, no! This will be a major tragedy at my house. Not that it isn't deserved but still will leave a big hole in our lives.

Same at our house. John Oliver will be doing 8 of the 12 weeks and while I like John Oliver a lot I will miss Jon Stewart. I'm thinking of taking a LONG vacation to get over the loss. ;)

In our house we record every Daily Show and Colbert Report and watch them the next day. If hubby is out of town I have to save them for him to watch. I don't think we have missed an episode in 4/5 years.

I think this news is really exciting... I'm 'proud' of Jon (you know, it's easy to think of him as your 'friend', like we know him...) for doing this. I'll be anxious to see the film he makes.

This is a bummer timing wise as the show shifts here to 7PM when the time shifts. They show it at 7 PM and we watch it live during dinner. Now it is on at 6 so I have to tape it and don't get to it half the time.

Oh yeah! Guess who will be going to 'The Colbert Report' in NYC and seeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt this Wednesday??? That's right ... yours truly.

We've seen both Jon & Colbert before and I liked Colbert live performance more. He does a lot more interaction with audience and it's fun because before we begin taping he comes out 'out of character' and you can ask him anything. It's the only time he's not in character. It's fun. I'm psyched. Of course there is always a chance we can't get in at the last minute but I'm hoping that isn't the case. I would be bummed.

Bloss, we are probably going to see Kinky Boots on Broadway. May also go to Yankee game but the prices are more outrageous than usual so I'm not sure yet. I hope this trip to drag hubby to museum. ;) I'll keep you guys posted.

I do think it will be really fun to see Stephen this week coming from his Emmy wins. His first night back will be Tuesday and I'm sure he will still be pumped Wednesday. :D

It is the end of the season and the Yankees have been bad. I think though with the looming retirement of some players they are getting last licks on the ticket pricing.

Awesome... :) I'm curious how that show is.

Yeah the Yankees are pitiful this year and even though I still love them but I don't love them THAT much to take my $. Also Jeter isn't playing and that just makes me sad.

I'll let you know how the shows are. ;)

Weather is suppose to be perfect which is always great!

Colbert was hilarious and wonderful. Not only was Joseph Gorden-Levitt on but so was Floyd Mayweather who is a famous boxer. Show didn't tape until about 8. I think it was because they were waiting on guests but not sure. They also had us part of another night's taping with Big Bird but he wasn't live.

Best part is when Stephen makes a mistake and has to do it over. We all keep laughing and he loses it again.

Joseph is huge fan and adorable. He came out before and after and got many standing ovations. Floyd was very funny. So funny get had to retake his segment because we were laughing too loud.

Stephen's out of character questions were about the Emmy, the musical group that cancelled at the last minute and Jon Stewart.

Audience member: Where is the Emmy now?
Stephen: oh was I supposed to keep it? Because I grounded them up and snorted them.

Audience: how do you feel about finally beating Jon?
Stephen: long reply .... It wasn't about beating Jon. Jon and I are best friends. We've been going out there 8 years and saying it doesn't matter but when we won .... It mattered. It's nice the show finally won. Etc.

Audience: how do you really feel about the baa and (can't remember the name) not being able to play at last minute because they were going to play at VMAs and then they didn't?
Stephen: he went into great detail. Apparently MTV said no but he convinced the band to come anyway. They were in France and were at the studio and MTV had a shit fit and said NO. MTV and Comedy Central are owned by same company.

More when I'm not on my iPad. This is painful.

I really like him, he seems so genuine and really has a sense of people. I feel Stewart is more of an elitist, even though I still like his show, I would rather listen to Colbert.

Looking forward to it. 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver' is a great title.

Meanwhile, it's been good to see Scott Thompson reprising Buddy Cole on Colbert this week, a most welcome return...
