JUSTIFIED is the story of Deputy U.S. Marshal RAYLAN GIVENS (Timothy Olyphant), a true-blue hero and something of a throwback, given to wearing a Stetson and cowboy boots, carrying his sidearm in a hip holster – a weapon he only draws when he has to, and when he does, he shoots to kill, because, as he sees it, that’s the purpose of a gun. Raylan was born and reared in the hill country of eastern Kentucky. It was in Harlan where he played ball, chased girls and dug coal. And it was from Harlan, at age 19, that he ran, determined to become a U.S. Marshal. Now, years later, after shooting a gun thug in a Miami hotel and thereby incurring the wrath of his Marshals Service superiors, Raylan has been sent in punishment (and by fate?) to the one place to which he vowed he would never return – Kentucky. The character of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens was created by America’s pre-eminent crime novelist Elmore Leonard (Get Shorty, Out of Sight) and is played by Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood, Live Free or Die Hard). The Chief Deputy of the Lexington U.S.M.S. office is ART MULLEN, played by Nick Searcy (Cast Away, From the Earth to the Moon). Working alongside Raylan are fellow deputies TIM GUTTERSON – played by Jacob Pitts (The Pacific) – and RACHEL BROOKS – played by Erica Tazel (Life, The Office). Raylan, Art and the other deputies do what all U.S. Marshals do – chase down fugitives, protect witnesses, transport prisoners. But, being back in Kentucky, Raylan will also have to confront a past crowded with enough skeletons to choke a graveyard. There’s his old friend and fellow coal-miner, now fugitive bank-robber, BOYD CROWDER (Walton Goggins - The Shield). There’s AVA CROWDER (Joelle Carter - Monk, CSI: Miami), the cheerleader from his youth he always had a crush on. There’s ex-wife WINONA (Natalie Zea - Hung, Dirty Sexy Money). And, looming largest of all in Raylan’s past, there’s his career criminal father ARLO (Raymond Barry - Cold Case, Training Day). JUSTIFIED was developed for series television by Executive Producers Graham Yost (Boomtown, The Pacific), Michael Dinner (Karen Sisco, Sons of Anarchy), Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly (Kidnapped) and Elmore Leonard. The series comes from FX Productions and Sony Pictures Television. (I really like FX's original shows, anyone going to watch this one??) |

Looks great. I haven't read any of Leonard's Raylan Givens books (Pronto, 1993; Riding The Rap, 1995; or novella Fire in the Hole, 2001, from which the pilot takes its story), but I might try to get around to them... |

You and me both, sista! I am SOOOOOOOOO looking forward to this show. Got it on the ol' dvr and hopefully will watch the first one tomorrow night. The previews looked awesome enough so I would stop FF-ing Nip/Tuck to take a look. And I liked what I saw. Can't wait! |

Timothy Olyphant -- Raylan Givens Nick Searcy -- Art Mullen Joelle Carter -- Ava Crowder Jacob Pitts -- Tim Gutterson Erica Tazel -- Rachel Brooks Natalie Zea -- Winona Hawkins Week 2 edit - Carter and Zea 'guests' in pilot, but regulars thereafter. Walton Goggins (Boyd Crowder) is recurring in Season 1 but will be a regular in Season 2... - I like it. Yeah, this one's gonna be fun. Goggins was killed in the original pilot, but they recanted and I have no doubt that's for the best. |

Is Goggins his old buddy from the past? Man, that dude is BAD! Hubby thinks he will be killed. I think he will stick around to make the storyline more interesting. We haven't even met the dad character yet. I have a feeling this one is a slow build. And I am SO there. |

>> Is Goggins his old buddy from the past? Man, that dude is BAD! Yup. Walton Goggins... he was brilliant on The Shield (you haven't watched that? A fine viewing project for you this summer...). He has (had?) a project in development with AMC called Rectify (which sorta rhymes with Justified, funny...) that I want(ed) to see come to light, but I haven't heard or seen anything about it in awhile... >> Hubby thinks he will be killed. I'm sure. But yeah, better that it be a little further down the line than in #1... |

DH thinks this show is awesome. His friend said it's like a man's soap opera. IDK, I went to bed when it came on. edit: for some reason everytime I see the title I think it's a reality show about Justin Timberlake. Edited by lexilou, Mar 18 2010, 07:48 PM.

The working title was 'Lawman' (which was also a word used in the pilot, but by Boyd)... neither title is perfect, but it doesn't bother me... |

Semi-spoilerish to say, but Goggins will be in 9 out of these 13, and upped to regular when they go into Season 2 ('if' isn't really necessary - premiere got FX their 2nd best premiere ratings, after only The Shield). http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-goggins23-2010mar23,0,6511241.story Cool. But a bummer that this further seems to say that AMC must have passed on the Goggins/Ray McKinnon (actor/writer/director who was on Deadwood, and they share an Oscar for a short film, The Accountant). Would have been a legal (wrongful conviction) and family drama... sounded good... Oh, well. AMC's got The Walking Dead (adaptation of a well-regarded zombie comic book) from Frank Darabont coming up... that sounds super-fun... dunno about sci-fi Rubicon, coming this summer... but curious to sample, of course... |

Goggins is a great actor and it's shameful that his work on the Shield didn't warrant one damn award!! It's hard to imagine him hanging around for nine more episodes, but then again he was shot in the chest and still has to recover!! |

Majorly dug the second episode. Love it a lot already. Great dialogue... Joelle Carter (Ava) and Natalie Zea (Winona) added to Main Cast list... cool, I liked Zea a lot on Dirty Sexy Money (and guesting on Hung last summer). |

Just saw the first one and loved it. Goggins is a great slime bag and Olyphant's character is very similar to the one on Deadwood, which I loved. Plus he is hot hot hot. I think this show will build and just get better each week. |

I'm two behind now, but I loved the first three very much (and have the Elmore Leonard books out from the library now... expecting to start the first one over the weekend). Very different show from Deadwood, of course, though you have Timothy Olyphant and a hat in both. Deadwood fans are salivating for HBO's upcoming Luck, from David Milch and Michael Mann. Dustin Hoffman, Dennis Farina, Nick Nolte... (surprisingly, no shared cast with Deadwood as yet, but I expect it will happen...) |

>> Damn after we drop HBO it starts to get good shows. i had not heard about that one. It'll be awhile yet... pilot shooting now... not yet ordered to series, but I can't imagine that it won't be... But Boardwalk Empire (from Terrence Winter, a primary Sopranos collaborator, with Scorsese directing the pilot) starts in the fall, and it looks A M A Z I N G... >> We are now watching last season's Nurse Jackie. Just got into it. That's Showtime. Yeah, I liked that one... I don't have Showtime now, so I'll probably be watching the (currently airing) second season on dvd... |
