Lee was really good. Maybe a bit 'cheating' of Idol a bit to give him a full choir for Hallelujah, just to clinch the deal. That looked more like a finale song, like Clay's big Bridge Over Troubled Water moment...
I actually didn't care for the choir.....thought they were a bit distracting. He would have been just fine without them. It was a great version of that song.

Lexilou--did you find it? If not, here's a link:

I can't see me watching next season unless something major happens. I enjoy Simon but I wasn't blown away this year and I find it annoying to have 4 judges. Ellen didn't add anything to the show and I thought she was a huge disappointment. Kara also doesn't do it for me.

I'm with you on that. I'm sure I will check out Simon's new show when it finally airs but AI without Simon is like Florida without sunshine. It just ain't right!!!

Thanks Cheryl! It was a great performance, not sure about the choir though. That song is so powerful without a lot of extras.

I like Lee, but she was far and away better on finale night. I'm a lot more familiar with his songs than hers (minus Black Velvet) - he did three favorites by three favorite artists in Paul Simon, REM, and U2, and... he just didn't 'own' any of them... judges wanted more energy from him on Boxer, but I thought it was too big and showy as it was... prefer it gentler and 'prettier' sounding... and while I'm grateful 'the single' release is to be a cover this year and not one of those terrible sappy originals... I wouldn't wanna hear his 'Beautiful Day' on the radio...

Anyway.

She should win.

ITA with Dax.

I think is was a very poor season and Simon is smart to get out now. It was sad that his last show to judge was just an overall 'eh' for me. I'm sure I'm done with the whole thing.

Well Hell. I didn't watch this season cause AI got old for me. I did however watch last nights since it was the final 2. I had high hopes for Ellen but she def should stick with her day job. She's just not that funny and AI doesn't need 4 judges.
I am very impressed with Crystal. She will def be a star no matter what. Her final song was AMAZING. It gave me goose bumps. I really hope she wins but I could totally see a lot of teenage girls voting for the guy.
I honestly think she will do better as an artist if she isn't "tied down" to AI and their contracts.
last night was a good show but I'm with a lot of you guys. No Paula or Simon and AI has lost it's soul. :(

I agree with everyone else pretty much, Crystal should be the winner. I wont be watching next season either, Ellen+no Simon=no watching. Tonight should be kinda intersting saying goodbye Simon and all but I cant say after this season I'll miss the show that much.

I saw Paula got a new dance show, anyone got any details on that?

The picture went out for me during the finale last night. :( That was so not cool. I think Lee sang off key due to nerves, but still I was not happy about that.

The last song Crystal sang..Kelly did a cover of it once. What is weird is supposedly the contestants picked what song they were going to do for the third one. If that is true, I don't get why Lee picked Beautiful Day, he can't compare to Bono.

I didn't know they picked the 3rd song. I know they picked the first song but I thought the show picked their cover songs.

Weird season.......weird finale. I am so over this show. It was great to see Paula back. She looked fabulous but she was just......well, weird. Watching all of the old clips with her and Simon made me realize how much I dislike Ellen and Kara. It's definitely the end of an era.

Loved it when all of the winners came out and then all the contestants. David Cook and MY Adam must be on tour though since they weren't there. Disappointing.

Overall, just a very lackluster season. I'm done.

P.S. Did anyone else think that Alanis Morrisette resembled Kate from Lost?

Cook (only missing winner) was a charity event in MO... Adam says he's on 'vocal rest' and was advised not to go (he starts a tour next week)... Yeah, bl, I don't think the contestants chose the third song...

Enjoyed a lot of last night... especially Joe Cocker joining the Final Two for With A Little Help From My Friends... that was joyous.

The Simon tribute was cool.

The quick throw to commercial when Ian and the rest of the freaks started squabbling over Dane Cook's mic was funny.

Alice Cooper is scary.

Weird result. More voters liked Lee. Okay. I like him, too, but I REALLY thought (after watching Tuesday's show) the male/female winners tie would tip to the girls...

I'm not going to record/watch next year, but I'll probably do some 'casual viewer' drop-ins... will have to see the new judge at some point... will want to catch the big people-will-be-talking-about performances on youtube or whatever... might be interested to see a particular guest or theme night... But after nine years, I'm pretty bored of it. If I take next spring off of Idol, I may be more prone to commit to Fall 2011's X-Factor of Simon's...

The part with Dane Cook wasn't supposed to happen with Ian going on stage. The others were trying to stop him per LA Times Blog.

Yay Paula, yes you are quirky, but at least you have personality and a good rapport with Simon.

Well, it was clear they were supposed to GO on stage, but NOT steal the mic, right? Do you have a link on the article you read?... I scanned the Idol Tracker blog at LA Times, and didn't see it... the youtube video clipped here is East Coast http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/27/american-idols-kanye-mome_n_591609.html - I got it here with a beat or two clipped... no reaction shot from Simon, and not as long (and they definitely drowned out his audio so you couldn't hear everything he said) - ... is the girl in the blue dress Tatianna? Sounded like she said 'Nicole'...

Kinda serves Idol right, assuming the freakshows would behave for them...

Sorry I read it at Popeater, too many things about AI today. Dane Cook posted this on twitter. "That was not staged. Weirdo hijacked the song," he said. "Just glad he didn't hit me in the face w/ the mic or American Idol would be American Beatdown."

Here is a link to the specific article: http://www.popeater.com/2010/05/27/ian-benardo-dane-cook-american-idol-crasher/

My thoughts exactly!

I thought the entire Dane Cook segment was a bust, freaks or no freaks. It was just NOT funny. And you could see that Simon was a little uncomfortable and thought it was lame. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

LOL....Sorry to sound like Debbie Downer with all my complaining but seriously. It was like the perfectly sucky ending to a perfectly awful season.

I can't believe that Lee won over Crystal. Although he came on strong the last couple of weeks, IMO he choked on finale night. He's such a sweet, humble guy, though...I'm happy for him.

Unbelievable about Crystal's boyfriend. He couldn't have waited one more day???

I was surprised that Christina Aguilera comes out to belt the last few notes of “Fighter” and then goes into a song by herself. Did she not want to sing with the other AI girls or was it that obvious she would have blown them all out of the water? Either way Christina was amazing!

Crystal's boyfriend is a jerk. Not much more I can say.

Dane Cook song/tribute to Simon was dumb.

Paul was a hot mess like usual. Gosh how I miss her.

It was more the Simon goodbye show. Unless they get Madonna or Elton John to replace Simon I don't think the show will survive. I asked myself why don't they just end the show now instead of trying to continue. Oh well... ratings will dictate the future.

I was disappointed all the way around. I feel like I wasted two hours of my life and then they cut off Lee's finale. IDK, maybe I was just done with the show and that influenced my attitude, or maybe because I didn't like the songs, and I hate those group choreographed numbers. Christina A was the high point of the whole show for me.

I read Crystal's breakup was a mutual decision so it's hard for me to blame him completely and maybe he did try to wait but she forced the issue that night. Either way, the guy could have stuck around to at least be to see her win or lose.

I read today that they are considering Bret Michaels as a replacement for Simon. Although you can't always believe what you read because we know the Howard Stern speculation wasn't true. But actually I think he might work. I have a friend who refuses to watch AI but watches that Nashville Star on CMT. She was first introduced to Bret because he was a judge on there and she fell in love with him. And now when I've finally decided to quit watching AI, she may start if Bret is really a judge. Go figure!

I soooooooo agree with this article, especially the part about the zero chemistry between the judges this year:

Quote:

Forget a new judge, ‘Idol’ should go on hiatus

Knowing for the entire season that Simon Cowell was leaving “American Idol” was a little like finding out in January that you’ve got a cavity, but you can’t get it filled until May. But unlike the cavity, Cowell’s absence is going to be tough to fill.

And that is why it might be time for “Idol” to do something revolutionary. Instead of attempting to replace the judge and come back next winter, the show should think about taking a little hiatus. Here’s why: The show needs a new talent strategy.

Based on the contestants who made it to Hollywood week this year, one might conclude that there’s a dearth of fantastic singers to be had out there. But in a country of more than 300 million, that shouldn’t be the case.

“Idol” needs some time to rethink the way it’s screening contestants. Maybe it’s time to bring in YouTube submissions. What if Justin Bieber brought talent that he handpicked to the table? There’s got to be a way to change the rules and find some Susan Boyles of our own. The show should just take some time and figure out the best way to do it.

Another reason to take some extra time off is because quite simply, Simon’s seat cannot be filled. If there’s one thing we’ve learned about the judges’ table this year, it’s that it was a table completely devoid of any chemistry.

Cowell phoned it in, Ellen DeGeneres never really fit, Randy Jackson dawged his way through and Kara DioGuardi didn’t connect with anyone whose names weren’t Simon Cowell or Casey James. Simply filling the Simon seat with another human isn’t going to make this panel work together any better, and the contestants really need the judges to work as a team in order for the process to pan out the way it should.

When it was Cowell, Jackson and Paula Abdul, they didn’t all agree, but they all had clear roles and opinions that worked together in a way that actually helped contestants. In this ninth season, the lack of chemistry among the foursome led to conflicting advice that resulted in the singers not being able to learn and make the smart choices that are necessary in knowing what kind of artist you are. Some real, thoughtful housecleaning needs to take place to make the judges’ table work.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think that big changes at “Idol” is just an exercise in deck-chair rearrangement. I believe in the show, and I believe that it can survive without Cowell. It’s just time for an extreme “Idol” makeover, one that’s probably been due for several years.

With Cowell’s departure, the timing for such a thing couldn’t be better.

Well, I thought America's Got Talent was over when Hasselhoff left. But it's 100 times better with Howie. The chemistry he has with the other judges is amazing. Maybe AI can find someone to save it. Personally I think having Kara and Ellen is hurting the show, though. I just don't like them as judges. I have also read that they may not replace Simon. If not, can you imagine how boring the auditions will be? Half the fun was seeing Simon's expression or hearing his criticism. :titanic:

This may have been the worst finale in the season's history. The former contestants (from this season) coming back to sing only highlighted how bad they really were.

Sad how many of the former greats have lost their voices. The only group I enjoyed was Hall & Oates, and that was probably because they sang one of my favorite songs of theirs. :dancingdog:

Yikes I cant believe I forgot about Americas Got Talent....Been a crazy week for me, I'll be sure to catch it next week I enjoy Howie and never was a big fan of the Hoff.

Back on topic I'm over Idol, short of replacing Simon with Harry Connick Jr. I dont think theres any way they will get me back as a viewer. Maybe Bret would get me back for a few eppys because I just love him (yes I grew up on 80's hair bands lol) but as long as the other 3 remain it just doesnt work for me at all.

Fun list. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/americanidoltracker/2010/05/the-ultimate-american-idol-power-ranking-after-9-seasons-and-120-contestants-kelly-clarkson-still-re.html

I love Kelly.

Respect Carrie's success.

Still haven't gotten around to actually SEEING Dreamgirls, but love the story that 7th-placer Jennifer Hudson wins an Oscar for her first film.

I like David Cook, Adam Lambert, Constantine, Kris Allen, Clay Aiken, Chris Daughtry, Katharine McPhee, Bo Bice, Allison Iraheta (hope to see more of her soon), Kimberley Locke, Taylor Hicks, Blake Lewis (well, liked him on the show - haven't thought of him much since), Jason Castro, Melinda Doolittle (wouldn't mind hearing her again), Justin Guarini, Carly Smithson, Crystal Bowersox (I think she'll be far huger than Lee DeWyze), Tamyra Gray, Kimberly Caldwell, Frenchie Davis, Jasmine Trias (mmmmm... at 70, my lowest-ranked 'favorite'... and I think she's still in a stage show here in Vegas - I really ought to go and see that...), Josiah Leming (more of him, please), Lilly Scott, and John Stevens.

Fantasia is the highest-ranked 'eh, not for me', and I didn't like Ruben all that much back then (I like him more now)... Elliott Yamin didn't really do much for me... David Archuleta, of course, at 15 is the highest-ranked 'Gah, I HATE that guy's voice', and his fans are in the article's comments coming off like spastic little crybabies that he's not ranked HIGHER than 15...

Jordin's okay. Kellie Pickler's cute. I liked Lee DeWyze second-best a lot of weeks this season, but the final vote kinda sours me on him a bit - really thought he choked on the performance finale...

Diana DeGarmo is an odd historical footnote. I know she wasn't terrible or anything, but how did she come in second?

Bunch of other people I only remember for their notoriety/scandals, comic antics (William Hung, Nick Mitchell - he IS good, though...), or because they're cute girls and I want(ed) to have sex with them (I know a few of them COULD sing fairly well, but I can't claim I 'miss' (remember?) their voices and really 'want' to hear them sing again... should a few of them happen to somehow pop back out of obscurity, hey, great, but if not, well, that's okay, too... but a few of these above are legit - I really DID like Jasmine and Kim Caldwell for more than their looks...).

Because she's 'cool' (I like the quote somebody gives about her in the article), I feel like I SHOULD dig Siobhan Magnus more than I do... I don't know. I like her type, I guess I just didn't love her voice... I was bored pretty much all season, except for Bowersox...

Sooooo......Ellen is leaving Idol. Why am I not surprised?

I think it's inevitable that this ship is slowly sinking. :'(
