So the new season kicks off tonight....

Who's planning on watching? I know hubby and I will watch as this may be the last season for us since Simon's leaving. Still not sure about Ellen but we'll see. Anyone know how many audition eppys there are this time around? I enjoy them for the first few but after that just get on with the good singing. Here's to hoping for a good AI season!

I'm going to be recording it and trying to watch it when my DVR isn't full. I hope that I find someone to root for like I have in years past. It's always a crap shoot with me.

I'll be watching.

Might be my last year. Oh, I'll be CURIOUS about what they do post-Simon, but it may fall into the category of 'tune in every once in a while', not 'commit to two nights a week for four months'. I've considered bailing for awhile... Simon going is a good excuse (and yes, I'll check out X-Factor next fall, but I don't THINK I want to commit to that one, either...).

Answering jbr1212 -

Auditions through 2/3.

Hollywood 2/9-10, 2/16-17.

2/23-25 Top 12 girls, guys, results (on Thursday). Then the Top 10 of each sex the next week, then the Top 8 of each sex the week after that.

3/16 should be the Top 14 (combined), just one performance show a week from there on out...

(The big 'Idol Gives Back' show is back, combined with a results show, on 4/21).

I'll be watching. I am picking the Princess up from tutoring early so we don't miss anything! It's one of our bonding rituals.

Good riddance Simon. I think I may still watch anyway!

Thanks for the info Dax! We will probably give up on auditions after the first few shows but we will be back from Vegas week on.

I liked the cancer guy (I'm sooooo bad at remembering their names, sorry!). The guy who freaked Kara out was a little creepy, but he cracked me up! "I know, what the hell was that all about?" :lmfao:

I said I wouldn't watch but of course I did. AI is a drug for me, it keeps pulling me in and won't let me go.

I thought there were about 4 outstanding singers tonight. The cancer guy -- Justin Williams -- was awesome. He's really got star quality. When he walked in the room you could just feel his presence.

Not sure yet.

I don't like the auditions that much, but hubby does. I usually like the last 2 months. But I'm curious about the judges.

Last night I wasn't excited about the first episode, which was so odd for me. Maybe I've finally burned out on the show. The only season I really didn't enjoy much was season three.

Looking forward to Kristin Chenoweth and Neil Patrick Harris as guests.

I was so happy when I saw the pics and found out about KC there. I had no idea. I heard about V. Beckahm, NPH and some others, but never about her. I cannot wait to see her there.

Last night I liked the guy in blue who sang "What if God Was One of Us", and the poor girl in the pink dress.

I still have the episodes sitting on my DVR. Hopefully I'll get to them this weekend. I'm OK if I miss the auditions. I really can't wait for Kristin Chenoweth and Neil Patrick Harris so someone please give me a heads up when they are going to be on so I make sure I watch it. ;)

I've just caught the end of yesterday's show, the 62 years old guy. Cool. He reminded me of our DJ Talent :)

OMG. I was singing that song all night and into today! I guess I liked him too because his song definitely stuck with me. Hubby and I enjoyed the first two shows tremendously. While watching the second one, it hit me why I liked them better than I normally do. Because Paula is gone! And I am not a Paula hater. It's just that when Paula was there, she and Simon were always bickering and posturing and there seemed to be soooo much drama. I'm liking Kara a lot more this season, loved Posh Spice and Mary J. Blige (looking forward to the other guest judges), and it just seemed to be more about the music and less about the personalities of the judges. I think it's going to be a great season!!!

Loved Kristin....that little clip of her and Cara bonding was hysterical. They looked like they were having a blast. Shania Twain was good the other night, too. Boy, did they have some tearjerker stories on tonight. From the big ol' country dude that went to juvie for robbing a bank to the other big boy with the autistic child. And the girl with the partially paralyzed face! She was really cute and had a beautiful voice.

I don't want to be the one that's never satisfied but not enoguh KC! It was too short. I liked the bonding, too, Cheryl.

SO next is K. Perry and Avril?

Wow. Her misfortunes keep on coming... http://tvwatch.people.com/2010/01/26/inside-story-idol-contestants-mother-vanishes/

And then there's the story yesterday... a top 24 guy got booted because his Dad told a reporter his son had made the top 24... oops.

That poor girl....I remember her audition. She's had some tough breaks. It doesn't sound good for the mom. :(

Top 12 girls... age range of just 16-24...

My favorites last night were Lilly Scott, Didi Benami, and Crystal Bowersox.

Didn't hate anybody, but Lacey Brown's Landslide didn't really work for me (that said, the judges were BRUTAL on her...). Thought Haeley Vaughn's song started well - first couple lines were great - then I didn't like where it went...

I'm developing a decent-sized lust for Katelyn Epperly (agree with Kara's thoughts that she was a bit too 'made up', kinda looked like Sandy at the end of Grease, in full 'tell me about it, stud' mode, and she feels more like a 'natural beauty' girl...), Didi, Crystal, and (um, in states legally permitting such a thing) Katie Stevens.

What do you all think of Ellen? I was okay with her in Hollywood, but these last two nights I haven't been real thrilled. She really doesn't add anything, other than "I liked it and you're cute" or "I didn't really like it, but you're cute". It's like Paula, only not on drugs.

Man, I am soooooo with you on the Ellen thing. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw her in Hollywood after my initial misgivings after finding out she was the new judge. But after watching her in these two live shows, my feeling is that she adds absolutely nothing to the judge's panel. I'm sick of hearing she's a fan of someone. I'm sure they all are fans since they picked these people! Ugh. Maybe it was the editing for Hollywood week because she wasn't annoying then. Frankly, I'm finding the whole show to be a little on the boring side. The boys (aside from Big Mike and Andrew Garcia) were godawful. Yeah, the Bee Gee lookalike that Kara has a crush on is cute but his singing doesn't exactly knock my socks off. I think I must be spoiled by the last two seasons of David Cook and Adam. These guys are just dull.

Of the gals, I think Crystal Bowersox is the most talented but her personality probably isn't exactly endearing to mainstream America so she most likely won't last long. I hope I'm wrong on that one.

And one more thing about the judge situation, I think what it really comes down to is that we do NOT need four freaking judges!

I didn't see Crystal Tuesday night, but she's been my favorite girl from the get-go. I was getting really sick of Kara mooning all over that kid, ugh. And then when she said she was married it was even worse. He's not THAT hot.

I agree.....the guy isn't all that. I just can't seem to get excited about the contestants this year. I hope they start getting better. And soon.

It was AWESOME seeing Allison back tonight......love that girl! My hairdresser Jared gave me her new cd and it's really good. Great seeing Kris Allen too. He's freaking adorable......and he actually did a fabulous job on Let It Be. Seeing those two sing tonight really hit it home how NOT good this year's crop really is.

Oh. One more thing about Ellen that is a bit annoying. She must say "you know" about 50 times a night! Ya know? ;)

No dvr yet and I opted for Survivor instead of AI, so ..... who went home?

Went home - Ashley Rodriguez and Janell Wheeler (who'd gone 2nd and 3rd) and Joe Munoz and Tyler Grady (who'd gone 5th and 6th).

Guys - I liked Michael Lynche and Lee Dewyze the best.

Overall liked the girls better than the guys (but this surprises no one, right?).

Ellen - I like her. While enjoying the 'cast chemistry' between the judges (and Ryan), I was tired of Paula. That said, no, they DON'T need four judges. Three is plenty.
