A friend of mine just met Joss, walking around the hall incognito, with a sweater hoodie pulled over him... From the picture on fb, he's still plenty recognizable...

Cool Dax. Did he engage? I would be too shy and feel as if I were stalkery...

Yeah, he got a picture with him. I'll have to ask later, the story of 'how'd you approach?'... I would NOT want to 'blow his cover' and get him all swarmed and shit, but I would probably say 'hi' because Joss always seems very friendly and approachable, you know?

I was once browsing somewhere and looked up, and was right next to Patton Oswalt. That was cool.

Been too many years now (five?) since I was there last (and I think the last time was just a quickie one day jaunt)... I miss it, but it is super-inconvenient to get tickets, get there, spend the money, and it's soooooooooooo crowded and crazy, but...

But you know, the internet keeps me informed. I'm currently extremely ecstatic by the news of a new Sandman series in 2013...

I've been following stuff via Whedonesque. Such a geeky, human nexus... can't wait to see the Science Channel special in November.

I keep meaning to check out the web series world and never do. Alexis Denisof is in this and it's getting good press so maybe I'll start here.

In fact he's got a three year deal with Marvel, and W'esque is already in a frenzy full of joy and fear all at once. The best line I saw:

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Joss-Whedon-Signs-Three-Year-Deal-With-Marvel-Studios-32359.html

This is like Angel taking over Wolfram and Hart. It COULD be great, or.....

The big fear is that word "exclusive." People are afraid it means no Dr. Horrible 2, not future indie projects. Most though, think it means Joss will trade three years of HUGE bucks so he can be indie for life, maybe with his own 'do what ever you want' with HBO/Sho/etc which would be AWESOME.

I didn't realize he did work on Capt. America, which I liked a LOT better than Iron Man 2, so once again my Jossdar is confirmed to be working.

I had somehow missed that he'd done anything on Captain America, too.

It's money he CAN'T turn down, and a world he's clearly comfortable and having fun in. This is good.

Dr. Horrible 2 will happen (it must), but it might take awhile longer to slip in, sure... (but even with 'exclusive' in the contracts, I'll bet he would be able to do one of his clearly-not-competing-with-Marvel-blockbusters indies in any off-time, if he has any...).

Geeking out on Joss having a show on the air next season... S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC... Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson, not dead) and Ming-Na Wen cast so far...

Should be super-fun.

I agree. I don't know how much 'jossiness' it will have, but he's been able to keep his hand in a lot of things at once so I'm hopeful Avengers was by far the best superhero movie I've seen so that's good. I wonder how they'll keep Coulson alive?

The popular theory is that his death was faked, but... I don't know. They'll come up with something (this happens ALL the time in comics, especially Marvel's... they're just like the daytime soaps in that way...). I'll re-watch Avengers for any clues... haven't had a chance to do that since the blu-ray came in...

Only good a few more hours, but if you don't have some of this stuff... great deals on all things Joss at Amazon today - blu of all of Firefly for 18.49 (or dvd for 13.50)... Complete Buffy - $66... Complete Angel - $56... Dr. Horrible blu - $7.50... Serenity blu $8.50... both Dollhouse seasons... even the (crappy) Buffy movie is on sale...

I think Joss is probably a major contender to get involved with Star Wars here in the not-too-distant future...

KMI has undoubtedly already seen this with a whedonesque link, but this is a good 'state of things' - http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/01/07/joss-whedons-2013-to-do-list-the-avengers-2-much-ado-about-nothing-and-maybe-more-dr-horrible/

>> if Disney-owned ABC decides to pick up Disney-owned Marvel Studios’ first ever TV series, S.H.I.E.L.D.

'If'. Puh-leeze. It's a lock.

>> brother Jed and Tancharoen — are working with him on S.H.I.E.L.D. Should the show go to series, the couple (who are married) will serve as day-to-day showrunners with another friend/associate, Jeffrey Bell (Angel).

I don't believe I'd read that anywhere else, but had been curious (as to who would be running it). Cool.

Having just marathoned a bunch of Nashville, I'm very happy with the gorgeous Chloe Bennet (Gunnar's girlfriend, briefly) being cast in SHIELD.

Joss Whedon shows us not all heroes are super with "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

Fresh from his role in the summer’s box office smash, Marvel's The Avengers, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They’ll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Prepare for an epic adventure that showcases the hope and wonder of the human spirit. This is a world of Super Heroes, aliens and the unusual – of action, spectacle and world spanning stories. The show will speak to the human condition through the lens of our very human, non-powered S.H.I.E.L.D agents – that together we are greater than we are apart, and that we can make a difference in the world.

Executive Produced and co-written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen ("Dollhouse," "Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog"), Jeffrey Bell ("Angel," "Alias") and Jeph Loeb ("Smallville," "Lost," "Heroes") comes Marvel’s first live-action TV series, "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

In addition to all of the other reasons to watch, it is going to be really really interesting to see if and how Joss and company can make us care about the 'very human, non-powered' S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents and not long for the superheroes....

And I hope that pronto, people are cool with typing SHIELD without the periods. Boy is it annoying to insert them. I suppose the word-with-periods is too iconic in the comic nook world to think they'll drop the periods?

I don't know. I'll probably (in discussion) keep the caps but drop the periods... it'll be right in the topic title, but beyond that... yeah, too much work.

Comics (what I was used to) - Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division.
Comics since 1991 (but I think I missed the change, somehow) - Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate.
In the movies - Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.

I also love that Nick Fury was first made to look like Samuel L. Jackson in Marvel's (non-canon, do-over-like) 'Ultimate' Universe beginning in August 2001, though Jackson didn't start playing him until Iron Man in 2008.

And now in the 'regular' (comics) Marvel Universe, Nick Fury was revealed in 2012 as having an African-American son (that looks like Sam Jackson) named Marcus, who loses an eye in the course of the first story he's in. Also in that story, Fury Sr. retires, and Marcus takes on his original birth name of 'Nick Fury, Jr.' so...

So Nick Fury in the comics looks like Sam now, too.

lol...and if you didn't see the news this week, Jay August Richards is signed to SHIELD. Lots of spec he may play Fury in flashback. Though others are touting various characters and bemoaning the semi-racist assumption he must be Fury flashbacks???
